  1. I just... usually write out stuff and use best judgment when it comes to outcomes, based on my character's ability or lackthereof. Occasionally I'll go to random.org for a simple dice roll on something that could go either way. But I'm pretty laid back.
  2. Hola, everybody! I'm willing to bet my last dollar that a bunch of you are spec fic (sci-fi/fantasy/horror) fans, and I think it's safe to say that the majority of y'all know how to read. Or have a text-to-speech mechanisms! I'm rather pleased as punch right now, as my husband (known to this community as Twinflame) recently saw his second publication - and his first anthology - last night a little past midnight. I wanted to share it with y'all here, because 1) I honestly think its content would be right up everyone's alley, and 2) ... Okay, how could I resist plugging it to expand its reach? The whole production was a HUGE effort by him as editor (and contributor), contributors from the local Houston area and around the world, and the backing of the Houston Writers Guild. I give to you... It's part 1 in a multi-part anthology series planned - this time covering all manner of science fiction stories. I've had the honor of watching the whole thing be put together - from its baby steps in discussions with the HWG, through its successful Kickstarter campaign, to submission after submission, to being picked up by Barnes & Noble in print... Whew! Super exciting! Anyway, it's got a whole bunch of really great stories, and I'd like to implore any of y'all who may be interested to toss a couple bucks at the Kindle version on Amazon and leave a review! The latter is especially important, as books live or die based on the number of reviews in this age of publishing. Support a fellow roleplayer who is rapidly seeing his career dream come true, and in the process support a bunch of other blossoming writers and indie publishing!
  3. The quiet of the elders' tent did not return once its visitors had fled, though none of them spoke. Shuffling of bare feet through sand, cloth against cloth, the tinkling of trinkets dropped into pouches, and the weary, heavy breaths of the old all filled the dark space. It was important that they be prepared to leave soon, and to leave no trace of their presence behind. K'takka moved through the shadows, snuffing the dull embers of incense, though their smokey smell lingered in the closed tent. K'deiki's shriveled hands brushed across sigils drawn previously in the sand, wiping them clean. Bone bowls clattered as K'jhanhi emptied their contents, and fetishes clinked musically as he stored them away, fingers working familiar knots into old rope and hide. Together they worked with a quiet urgency, a patient readiness. The Amalj'aa were a threat, but they were a familiar threat, and the elders' response was one of habit, not lazy but practiced. In short order, they would begin to transfer the contents of the tent to just outside. It would signal to the rest of the tribe who had not yet begun preparations of what was to come for the family: they would eat, bolstering their bodies, and then they would disappear.
  4. I got the impression that somnus is a great deal more dangerous than marijuana and not really similar in effect either. There are suggestions that it's intensely hallucinatory, and you can slip into a coma and die.
  5. Well that's why heals are mobile! x3 (It's actually one of my favorite parts about healing in WS. Hahaha)
  6. Haha, so true. All these newfangled telegraphs painted on the ground are just training wheels, really. Unless it's WildStar and then it's just holyfuckballsareyouinsane.
  7. Oh, ok, thanks. I feel like an idiot for using NEET instead of Hikimori. @_@ My point still stands at any relevant rate. The point that has zero data to back it up?
  8. Honestly, I wouldn't trust romantic threads in RP with someone who I haven't known for many years. Which pretty much rules out almost everyone but my husband and two or three friends. And it definitely nixes it for anyone else in any RP community I've been involved in. But, it's not really something I seek out. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes our characters don't click like that. Sometimes there's a sordid love quadrilateral between all of us. It's never the entire focus of RP though. Subsidiary and part of character development, and it influences broader plots to be sure, but... it's not a plot in and of itself.
  9. Oh, that's totally understandable! Regarding the WoW things, I was hoping for a couple two-character portraits (bust up) of my husband and I's characters - a pair of draenei in one, and a Forsaken and a blood elf in the other. Potentially also something involving my Old God-corrupted tauren druid doing evil things... These are just some ideas in my head.
  10. Yes, you. No, not you. You! Or... Ahem. So here's the dealio, y'all. I've got gil! You want gil! You have art! I want art! I don't want gil! You don't want... wait, that doesn't quite follow. Anyway, the point is, I've got a bunch of gil and I want to toss it all away on awesome art. Potential commissions could include any of the following: - Characters from FFXIV, TERA, WoW, Rift, or WildStar - Simple portrait busts - Single-character full-body poses, with or without backgrounds - 2+ character group shots (and I'd really love to commission a piece of the entire Player Character section of the Hipparion tribe) - Story-driven emotive works involving one or more characters - Line art, grey-scale shading, or color! Or anything else that might strike my or your mind. I'm just really wanting art to cement happy memories of this game (and others). If you'd be willing to accept my commission (or multiple commissions!), please PM me and/or post in this thread! Prices, of course, are up to the artist, though I'd like them in keeping with price standards set by past gil commission art threads. I'm not going to pay 2 million gil for a head shot.
  11. Just going to echo the sentiment of: You don't have to be an adventurer to hang out in places like the Quicksand or its equivalents. Discounting that it would be incredibly unfair to non-adventurer roleplayers to cut them out of huge RP hubs, there's no real evidence that says they're exclusive locations.
  12. Yes, it's me! Muwahahahahahaha---ha. Ahem. Understandable! I just really love how you've portrayed Twin and I's characters and wanted to give you more opportunities, should you feel up to it, before I tried to search elsewhere. I'll fire off a PM, but of course take your time and real life comes first!
  13. *pokepoke* I was wondering when you may open up for more commissions? My gil is ready and I'd really love to throw it at you before my sub expires (in ~80 days). ^^;
  14. Certainly it won't, from a lethal standpoint! Which is entirely my point. It's more than possible to have an enriching roleplay experience with a character who misuses their own aether. And if/when they should make friends who both learn about what's happening and care enough to intervene... well, that's just fodder for more fun roleplay!
  15. Sylphie is clearly more than a decade old, based on how she speaks and behaves. I'd place her at early teens, most likely. Depending on when her mom had her, that's quite a long time for her mom to have lived while draining her own life.
  16. Yes, the only reason Sylphie was in such immediate danger was because she was constantly using her own aether. If it's something a character only does on occasion, the effect may be almost unnoticeable, or easily passed off as generally being weak of constitution - at least for a good while.
  17. I think this would be a good way to approach it, too. Even after they learn to manipulate aether properly, the character could have permanently damaged themselves in such a way that would satisfy the OP's want to have a character who is outwardly weak and ill-seeming. It's all in how you play it. ^^
  18. It's all in the tone and manner of phrasing. Thinly veiled superiority disguised as "helpful" advice is not really how one should go about providing feedback. There's nothing in lore that would prevent a character from RPing someone who drains their own life force to heal others. As long as it's roleplayed effectively, it shouldn't bother anyone else.
  19. No one's ignoring lore in this thread. Just want to point that out.
  20. It's not like customer support is a groundbreaking service. There are known methods that work. If SE fails to implement these strategies, that is all on them.
  21. For what it's worth, A'ria, I don't think your concept is too "out there", and I think the disability, conflict, and threat of your character gradually killing themselves (something you can make take as slowly or as quickly as you'd like) could make for some fun RP, especially if other people get involved to help her. Perhaps I'm just more open to character concepts that involve things that don't benefit the character. I really think the piling on against you was unnecessary and certain posts in here come off as way too hostile.
  22. Considering their treatment of armor in the past... It's pretty much guaranteed that the items will be genderlocked.

If stuff starts going wrong when the second divebomb set starts, it's usually a result of tunnel visioning and missing the beep for the divebomb. People may also slip out of position and find themselves too far up the ditch, which can result in a misplaced Twintania. A countdown macro and maintaining general raid awareness will solve that.

Ahah. I have no current obligations (sadly).
  25. Using rape to generate strong feelings towards a particular plot point is a common (and usually very lazy) technique, unfortunately. It is possible to handle rape in a story well, but you don't do that by treating it as a simple plot device to characterize one side as the bad guys.
