New to roleplaying on ffxiv

I was doubtful anyone had been caught doing it, the roleplayers on FFXIV seem to be a lot more discreet than that.

(Though back in 2010, Ellion did catch three people ERPing in say launch day in 1.0)

But yeah, not seeing how erp is relevant.

I went to Quicksands once on my first day playing and two female characters wanted to ERP. All I did was sit at there table with them and talk and then they asked if I like to fool around with them and that their relationship to one another was open. I was really put off by it and have been avoiding roleplaying for the past two months since then. So wanted to get some background to myself to make erpers not interested.

Thank you for the suggestion, its a really good idea. I do not think I be able to handle being the MC though, that is a lot of pressure!

Question. Is there some kind of NPC that is super spooky? Spooky backstory?

Also I generally really love the idea how the MC in Saya no Uta sees things. I could do something like that with the void? Not constantly seeing things disturbed but rarely and very subtle.

Tam Tara HM was just mentioned, but if you want to be able to see the true form of Voidsent creatures, there's really nothing that says your character can't. Imps can take the form of other things and High Ranking voidsent can possess people or corpses. Having a character that can see their "True forms" isn't too far fetched (And players can choose to believe her or not, still), though I would make it so your character had a terrible run in with the void that could explain why she can see it. Maybe, if you want to go down that route, she could also see mortals who are "Voidtouched" and see just how void-touched they actually are?

Also, ERPers are gonna try regardless of what you do.

Unless you play a Lalafell.

Maybe.

If anything your current backstory will only draw ERPers upon you. Given very few actual lore-abiding roleplayers would wish to roleplay with you. ERPers generally do not care for the lore in the slightest, the thing you seem to be appearing to do yourself. The more exotic, the more likely these people are fawning over your character, seeming they often try to find the strangest of people to consort with.

The closer you stick to the lore, the more chance you have running into serious roleplayers, and not just the deviant type.

"Maybe", haha I guess I will just have to have my teleport ready at all times.

Is there any monster in the void that is known to be like this? Koh the face stealer that would be just the right amount of spooky. Since they steal people aether they are kind of like Koh.

There are many, many different types of voidsent

of various power levels and such. We actually don't know them all, voidsent could be pretty much anything. I wouldn't really be adverse to just inventing one like Koh if you are so inclined, BUT there's probably someone who knows way more about the void then me around here.

Thank you for the link. What is the most well known voidsent? I may be able to base it around that because there may be more people who know it. Hmmm. Any recommendations for Void experts?

The only way to discourage ERPers is to play a character they don't find hot. Otherwise you're gonna get those offers anyway. Just tell them "no".

I adhere to the lore.

I ERP.

And no.....I'm not a deviant. But thank you for the generalization. *bows*

Always appreciated.

I think Virella meant ERPers whose sole purpose of RPing is ERP. There's a difference between that and RPers who are okay with ERPing.

"ERPers" are a different thing then "RPers who happen to ERP"

That is to say, people who roleplay primarily for erotic content as opposed to people whose roleplay may contain erotic content.

something something adults pen0r

I'm not a roleplayer who 'happens' to ERP. That turn of phrase makes it sound so defensive lol. I don't accidentally emote my characters doing the down and dirty and says 'oops how did THAT  get in there'. I am a roleplayer who engages in the act to narrate a sexual or otherwise erotic situation when I so desire, which is honestly nobody's business because I'm an adult who roleplays with an adult. Hell, I posted a somewhat erotic piece on the bulletin board once.

That said, it is not the primary focus of my roleplay; just as I roleplay fight scenes, bar scenes, or the occasional field-trek, I choose to sometimes (when I'm not fucking lazy, which is ...almost all the time) roleplay sex.

^ That's basically my account, for a bit of perspective.

Ooooh the salty rustled jimmies are real.  I've always seen ERPers as people that always ERP so I can't really see how you can mix the two but let's not go there. I don't want to see the salt spew out of those jimmies.

Back on track, I'd like to see what you do make now that everyone has thrown some ideas around. I've already said it before and I'll say it again, do what you think is going to be the most enjoyable for you. The things that people have suggested are actually quite interesting!

And it just.. Keeps.. Going.

I dunno what I really have to offer here, if anything. IT's all pretty much been said.

Lore breaking, people not liking that, do what you want, yada yada.

Here's a bit of insight from my end, maybe. I used to play WoW, way back in the day. I played a Draenei Shaman.. I adhere'd to the lore, but wanted this character to be.. Different. Not the same every day Draenei that you saw. So, rather then having one that grew up in Draenor, or.. Whatever the continent in the Burning Crusades was called, Rahalin was born on ARgus - The original Draenei homeland. Draenei hadn' tbeen on that world in.. Hundreds of thousands of years. So, Raha was something like.. 21000 years ok (As old-ish as Velin, who was canon and old as balls.) He'd been stored in cryostasis on the ship the Draenei took, and he was still in cryo when that ship crashed on Azeroth (The primary world of WoW.).... Because of how old RAhalin was, and the fact that he'd been in Cryo for.. SEveral thousand years, he had no clue as to anything. At all. He didn't even use possessive nouns in his speech - It was a lot of talking using body language, and using 'is', 'are', and 'am' randomly where it didn't seem appropriate. He was a BLAST to RP. People had a lot of fun with him.

When I moved over to FFXIV, I wanted something similar. I wanted to play a character that had grown up as a 'wild child', to explain why they spoke so brokenly. But.. I came to understand that that wasn't really lore appropriate. It just.. Didn't.. Fit, like it did in WoW... And because it didn't fit, ID idn't think I would have as much fun doing it. It was too off the wall, and too hard to make it work.

Sorry if this gets off topic. IT's mean as a demonstration to show how character concepts are not universally acceptable. What works in one world, may not work in another... And if it doesn't work, that doesn't mean we should force it.. My opinion, is that we should take the world SE made for us - And what a wonderful world it is - and use it.

Or something.

I dunno, I ramble too much.

Cleaned up the rest of this.

Look, just keep it on topic.

I don't know about Freelance or anyone else, but I'm sick of having to move stuff around and lock threads because people don't know how to keep a discussion on topic and keep it civil.

Seriously, if you can't say something nice or contribute without adding something snarky, take a darn step away from the keyboard for a bit.

That's something I noticed as well. Aside from the obvious technology difference scenario, a lot things might work in one work but not another.

Take the OP's Norse mythos idea for example. Odin on Earth is the Godfather and "The one that sees all" but in Eorzea he is an Elder Primal, constantly testing the realm for worthiness to continue on with our lives. They're very different and as a result throwing one character from Earth to Eorzea with that Odin relation gets rather confusing lore-wise. That was something a lot of people pointed out early on in the thread.

If I had to say anything in regards to someone jumping from world to world based on personal experience, either have the character become confused over the differences or just find a way to get around the difference even to the point of retconning a little. Or just restart on a fresh slate with the based character you had from one world only in another. That works as well.

Listen to Alothia sensei!!

*flails around*

Listen to the mod!!

This is why I avoid threads that have even the slightest tendency to turn sour or heated.

Sometimes difficult conversations are the ones worth having most. OP came in requesting guidance on a very controversial subject and was met with the gamut of responses. That's bound to get some dander up.

Yes, but difficult conversations can be done nicely and positively, and with a SMILE. But things mostly heat up for some reason. :<

Roleplayers are often driven by their egos. Be it defending something they love, attacking someone perceived to be attacking something they love, or just wanting to feel acceptance on the whole, it's practically impossible to have meaningful discussion without also having passionate discussion. As passion is wont to do, sometimes that means things escalate.

As long as discussions are held respectfully, it shouldn't be an issue. The problem arises when people feel slighted or disrespected, which can happen to myriad reasons. And sometimes bad behavior warrants a spanking, but that's a tricky line to see sometimes.

Ah makes sense, the roleplays I have done in the past were all forums. The worlds were created by the OP and people would build on upon it with their characters. So not really use to roleplaying on MMOs.
