This idea needs our support RPC

Recommended Posts

I'm not 100% comfortable with the concept. Like why not just give us all those extras so people who want to RP a dancer don't have to contend with 'but you didn't do the quest' stuff. But I dropped a like on the original post, because I think it should be seen and discussed.

Honestly, I didn't think Eorzea was "missing" vampires. At all.

It's a neat enough idea, but the fact that it's almost exclusively for the roleplaying set--the most minor of playerbase sub-sets in terms of dev time and resources--this will never see traction.

I'm actually pretty happy to be playing in a setting that doesn't have vampires and (for what I know) werewolves. It's refreshing.

I'd love more support for roleplayers, but basing a class system off it seems a bit excessive - It's not like there isn't anyone here making back-stories and character designs that aren't based off of the given classes/jobs. I'd prefer more support in the shape of addon support and additional emotes like you have it in age of Conan.

I'd much rather see us get a 'classless' state, or some sort of soul crystal that permits us to mix and match all equipable gear but locks us out of combat. That way we could RP without the limitations of class-specific gear. Bonus points for SE if we can use the animations of all the abilities our character has learned.

More emotes are welcome, particularly emotes valuable to RPers but frustratingly missing from the game, such as /play dead or /lay down, a /limp walking animation, etc.

More prop items akin to the claws you can buy at the gold saucer, such as bloody bandages and equipable steins with a drinking animation would be great, too.

In short, I'd much rather see animations and props implemented that can be used by all sorts of characters as opposed to specific kind of characters (no vampires please dear god the last thing I want is to have to dodge sex-obsessed vampire edge-lords in the quicksand. I don't want to go back to Goldshire, thanks)

If people really wanted to, they could RP as vampires without having a thing to show fangs.  Because honestly teeth are an incredibly minor detail in this game and likely no one would notice if you had them or not.  There are just some things in terms of dev resources which wouldn't make much sense to bother with.

In terms of lore, supposedly Highlander men have been known to file their teeth, but even they don't get any special appearance options for it. This would be a waste, imho, to bring in something special for vampires and not give a nod to existing lore.

As far as being a thief or a dance, you have Rogue now. There's your thief.  You have dance emotes already, at no cost. Find some fancy and/or skimpy clothes, wear those and prance around.  This doesn't need to be a sub-class.  I would place odds that we will eventually see a Dancer class or job somewhere down the road so, for now, just have fun with what already exists.

Werewolves? Honestly?  I don't want to see a bunch of Miqo'te turned werewolves.  There are options in the game for claws, just spend some time at GS and get the claws of the beast, and put on a behemoth helm or something.

Or if you really must, get the claws, get the bunny ears and call yourself a were-bunny.

I too echo the sentiment about no vampires/werewolves/demons. Otherwise, the concept looks good on paper. I could say from experience that this system would break down quickly due to peoples (in general) tendency to try and force others to agree with their character concepts. It also encourages more people to play within drawn boundaries of character design and closes off one's imagination.

Good idea from a personal gaming perspective.

Bad idea from a role-play community perspective.

While I will always embrace new gear and emotes, I can't say that this idea has interested me at all, sadly. Least of all the vampire part. Plus, things like this worry me because it takes up more menu space and eventually it'll surely reach the point where they're reluctant to add more more menus/submenus for the sake of preventing clutter? And then I'll only be sad that any future and great ideas are harder to push through to the devs because more random ones got attention first.

That's just me though.

My problem with this is there is enough content gated behind pointless quests already. I wouldn't mindvsn in game way to acquire more emotrs but I would like it to be similarly done to the Modern Aesthetics: Ponytail you get from Gold Saucer, something that can be achieved from new gameplay that isn't more....quests nnngh.

All we really need is a classless state where you can equip anything, as well as a few more RP-centric QoL additions. More small things like /cpose would be lovely, perhaps even the ability to use skills without a target. You don't need another menu for that, just some animations and /emotes to fire them.

On that note, it makes me think of something that I sort of what to make a topic about but I really don't think it's topic-worthy, nor is it relevant to this topic either. Ufff..

In any case, that classless state idea sounds pretty nice. Not 'exactly' what I'd like(removal of class restrictions full-stop), of course, but certainly better than nothing.

What's being proposed isn't too far off from the Postmoogle stuff in terms of content, I'd imagine. Fluff quests for people who enjoy fluff, with some fluff rewards. In terms of UI, it's pretty messy, and seems to be wanting to be more important than it would be.

I also don't like the idea of it taking some classes or concepts out of play for future expansions. They give us a dancer disciple of art, and then dancer's locked out of being playable? Several FFXI expacs went by before there was such thing as dancer in that game. No sense locking anything away from future possibilities.

Fluff quests with emotes and decorative gear rewards are already in play. Would we like more? Of course. Could decorative gear and emotes be more flexible and user friendly? Yep. Do such things need to be pushed and organized in a class system? I don't think so.

Gotta add my name to the list of people who wouldn't support this. I love the idea of implementing things for roleplay, don't get me wrong, but... I know I don't want to see even more stuff gated by classes.

Just give us a few more sets of skimpy "dancer clothing" and another persistent dance emote or two. No need to lock that content behind a bunch of quests and make that cool gear only usable by the Dancer Class.

My inner pessimist would also like to add that we don't even have a proper, official roleplay server. Is SE really going to implement something of this magnitude that benefits no one besides roleplayers? I think not.

That always gets me about suggestions like this now that you mention it. I dislike when people use the term roleplay and don't really provide many reasons why non-roleplayers might like it. There's a lot of ignorance and closed-mindedness in every community, ffxiv included, so I can't help but think of all the people whom would stop reading a topic regarding something they might actually like to support, all because:

"Ugh, roleplayers..."

Generally speaking, I don't feel great about ideas centred around roleplayers, as much as I may love the concept itself. We're still the minority so we need to find reasons for other people to feel enthused about it as well.

After looking through that thread, my first thought was: that person played TESO. That's pretty much exactly how that game handles unique states of being and additional skills like vampires, werewolves, Mages Guild, ect. But TESO has a completely different method of handling skills and emotes from XIV and I honestly think incorporating that idea would just add a bunch of needless clutter to a very specifically designed system (also, looking through that thread, the person suggesting it clearly just wants vampires).

The non-combat state where you can equip everything would be more than enough and that does seem rather unlikely to be implemented. What we should be asking for, in my opinion, is more quests for neat emotes, more /cpose, more cosmetic items and more facepaint/features options that add neat looks, scars and suchlike.
