Kiera Hawkeye Posted May 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2015 So, this mostly goes for the Immortal Flames, but in general, do the Grand Companies have a sort of dog tag thing going on? Make it easy to identify bodies that wouldn't be easily identifiable? I'd imagine they'd would, but I've never seen mention of it. Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted May 15, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 15, 2015 I haven't seen it mentioned either, but I would strongly ascribe to it. -Dumps a boatload of crystals in an effort to summon not the lore primal Sounsyy, but Erik and/or Kale, who are the only two big name Flames RPers that I know of- Link to comment
Desu Nee Posted May 15, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 15, 2015 I haven't seen it mentioned either, but I would strongly ascribe to it. -Dumps a boatload of crystals in an effort to summon not the lore primal Sounsyy, but Erik and/or Kale, who are the only two big name Flames RPers that I know of- - Dumps more crystals - Need to know this too. Unnamed Mercenary Posted May 15, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2015 In a setting where most of the common people are illiterate, I don't think it'd be too common. But also seeing how many an adventurer is literate, it could be possible. There's definitely nothing in the game to support a claim either way. Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted May 15, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 15, 2015 Dog tags aren't for common people. They're used by the military (who had better damn well be literate) to identify bodies after-action. Link to comment
Melkire Posted May 15, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 15, 2015 ...Erik and/or Kale, who are the only two big name Flames RPers that I know of... ...ouch. There's an explicit mention of dogtags made in a GSM leve, with regards to Wood Wailers receiving not tags but rings with their names and posts inscribed on the inside. http://xivdb.com/?leve/469/Dog-Tags-Are-for-Dogs "With so many new faces among the Wailers every day, we fear that time may come when we know not who it is among us that has fallen in service of the commonfolk. If every Wailer were given a ring, on the inside of which is inscribed his name and whence he hails, it would ease our fears." Since every GC has GC gear that includes a variety of rings, some of which seem specific to certain roles (I.F. have "Flamecarrier's Ring," for instance), I'd say that jewelry take the place of dog tags in the XIV setting. Melkire Posted May 15, 2015 Share #9 Posted May 15, 2015 I don't think dog tags as we have them, i.e. bits of metal with name, rank, etc. engraved and then put on a chain, exist in XIV. But the concept itself certainly does exist. EDIT: Damnit Ossy. [video=youtube] Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted May 15, 2015 Share #10 Posted May 15, 2015 I think the lore primal was just defeated. Link to comment
Kiera Hawkeye Posted May 15, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted May 15, 2015 Excellent! This helps out with a plot I'm working on. Thanks for the help! Link to comment
Harmonixer Posted May 15, 2015 Share #12 Posted May 15, 2015 I actually found this pretty relevant. Thanks OP! This confirms a few things for myself. Although, I also suppose it would make for a lot of trouble in the wrong hands, if you think of it. Link to comment
Chris Ganale Posted May 15, 2015 Share #13 Posted May 15, 2015 Not really any moreso than it does (read: doesn't) in the real world. Link to comment
Erik Mynhier Posted May 16, 2015 Share #14 Posted May 16, 2015 Feels the call..... A minor interview of which I cannot find the link for indicated that we will all get a dogtag style necklace with the expansion of the GC achievements. As for the goldsmith mission, yes they are mentioned. I seem to remember a mission we are sent to recover something from dead Flames. It does not use the word "dogtag" but something like "something to identify them with" so I assume it was something like that. Link to comment
K'nahli Posted May 16, 2015 Share #15 Posted May 16, 2015 There's a quest where you have to recover something from the bodies of fallen... somethings, whatever that Storm group is in Outer la Noscea. I don't think they were dog tags but I don't think they were mere personal effects either. I believe it was something that identified them somehow. Link to comment
Erik Mynhier Posted May 16, 2015 Share #16 Posted May 16, 2015 You may have a definitive answer in a few weeks. Look at your GC achievements. Each numbered set grants a title on the third level, and is followed by an item granting achievement of a different name. EX. Fanning the Flames I, II, and III {Grants: Title, Flamecarrier}, and finally The Brass Scale {Grants: Earrings} *Note that all this is from a Flame perspective, there are parallels in all the GCs. Looking them over the only set that breaks from this is In the Black, which only goes to three, has no title or extra achievement to grant an item. Which haves you complete a number of GC levequests 5, 10, and 15 in order. The first five can be done past lv 30 up to 35, the next five are level 35 to 40, and the last in Mor Dhona are for lv 40 to 45. Just beating each once is enough to unlock the achievements, making them much easier to finish then say The Silver Scales. With the level cap raising we can expect more leves to finish out the set, so I see a title being added to the third and the item, a necklace to the advanced achievement (Must finish 25 leves {5 from lv45 to 50, and 5 more from lv50 to 55} idk?). That said it will be an easy item, so a dogtag for a serious Flame player would be nice. Note that currently we get a shield, ring, earring, and bracelet. The neck item is all that is missing from the right side, we can already buy uniforms for the whole left side including weapons. So yeah I think the neck will be next and I can't wait to finish this, maybe get on top of it a special title+item for clearing all the achievements. As of now I'm done with them all, I just need this new set to clear it all. Link to comment
