LiadansWhisper Posted July 18, 2015 Share #26 Posted July 18, 2015 Liadan actually hit her breaking point shortly before the Calamity. A lot of people died. She's been very careful since then. Link to comment
WhiteLycanXII Posted July 18, 2015 Share #27 Posted July 18, 2015 Oddly enough, for Nira... She's most at home when there's friction. When there's conflict. She's gotten so conditioned to that state of affair that it's become her normal. All the chaos, the bloodshed, loss of life, she's come to accept those as a part of everyday life. That said, she doesn't know how to cope properly with some of the better things in life. Subjects of romance are an entirely foreign affair to her. She can be easily hurt in this arena, and it's not unlikely that she will (and has) reacted with a misappropriate level of response. Link to comment
Geisterfuchs Posted July 18, 2015 Share #28 Posted July 18, 2015 Hurt Carina's loved ones. She will go all yandere on the offenders arse. So definately the psychotic variant. Link to comment
Kurt S. Posted July 18, 2015 Share #29 Posted July 18, 2015 Could say in some way Kurt's already snapped. It's just that he's good at hiding it. There's little and less that he could care about in the world now. The most notable is his family, yes including his pets, and the really close friends. He had held on to his Maelstrom position specifically to keep an eye out for Wineport but has since let go of it and tranferred to the Flames when he learned his mother and her crew had taken to sailing again. Ramen and Nah involve the people close to them as well. Well for Ramen there's the added factor of what her past brings. Nah'd be realizing all she does, all the heroing was a lie. Khujin's defensive of her lifestyle and tribe. Link to comment

13uddy Posted July 18, 2015 Share #31 Posted July 18, 2015 There are several breaking points for my character, all varying levels at just how bad they would break him. But I think the most damaging one would be if he remembers his former life. To some degree, he's already broken down. His memory begins the day he woke up in the home of his adoptive parents at a young age (roughly 10 to 13 years old). The healers believe his memory loss is due to the state he was found in, nearly dead with badly infected wounds, a dangerously high fever, massive blood loss and so on, but that is only partially correct. He also barely survived an extremely traumatic ordeal that his young mind couldn't cope with. Between the ordeal and the near brush with death, he can't really remember anything before the day he woke up, and all he knows is the reasonably happy life he's lived since then. If he ever remembered before that point in any great detail, it would likely shatter his sanity. Perhaps not irreparably, but it would still be pretty bad. And yes, I'm being deliberately vague about the traumatic experience. Don't want to spoil it since I plan to write what happened to him as a story at some point. To a lesser degree, he would also break if he ever found proof that his sister is dead. She's missing and presumed dead, but he holds out hope that she's still alive somewhere out there. Also, I'm OOCly holding out hope that a friend will be joining us eventually to play her (she's very interested, but currently doesn't have the free time or the funds to justify a paid subscription game). Depending how that turns out, there may or may not come a day where he learns she's gone and breaks down for a while. It may not be quite as bad as the other thing, but it would still hurt him badly enough that he would seem almost like a different person. Link to comment
Darien Cadell Posted July 20, 2015 Share #32 Posted July 20, 2015 Yeah, my character snapped already, too. She's been wandering around in an effectively snapped state for a little more than a year? It's mostly just made her vicious and avoidant, but she's moving to somewhere healthier, I hope. The breaking point involved family, deception, and death, and it was all very, very personal, almost like it was designed to make her snap. I think what was left of her family was hoping they'd break her spirit so she could be controlled. Instead, she just went Tasmanian Devil berserk and left a lot of bodies in her wake. So these days it takes theoretically very little to make her "snap", but she's consciously making the effort to stay in control, so there'd have to be some sort of extenuating circumstances to make her throw that away. Maybe a direct, personal threat on her life in addition to forcing her into things she hates. Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted July 23, 2015 Share #33 Posted July 23, 2015 Franz kinda started out broken. That was the original idea behind Unnamed Mercenary. I had taken this character who seemingly had everything and tore it away, leaving only a few scraps and an urge to get back what he'd lost. And he's done a good job of that! But it's not particularly difficult to push him over the edge again. Despite the friendly face, or the sometimes mean look, he's still desperately trying to find his place in this strange country that isn't his home. The people worship these weird gods and they throw spells at each other all the time. And to make things worse, his family's not even there. He's been attacked and he's lashed out as well. Perhaps the worst that could be said to him is that he's not even trying. There's been so much of an internal struggle, he just wears a smile most of the time. Anything he can do to keep the people he's started to care about out of his issues. So to make him flip out? Tell him it was for nothing. Or that his family is dead or wouldn't want him back. He already sees himself as a failure and monster. It shouldn't take too much more to drive him over the edge once again. Or for extra fun, call him out on his eating habits. Body image issues are fun! Link to comment
Aaron Posted July 23, 2015 Share #34 Posted July 23, 2015 The breaking point for Aaron would probably be if harm came to his sister if we're talking him going on a bloodlust rampage (Which really won't last as Aaron's known for keeping calm in even the most heated situations.) And also because I find bloodlust carnage breaking points vanilla as hell, but that's just me. Regarding anyone else or betrayal. . Hes just going to shut himself away from the world emotionally again for a long time before learning to accept it again. His upbringing wasn't bad really enough for me to employ some final stand psycho drive in him sadly. I guess he /does/ snap if he sees someone downright beating down someone else with no provocation and will step in but other than that I think Aaron handles toxic stuff in a kinda fail safe way. Klynzahr Posted July 23, 2015 Share #35 Posted July 23, 2015 Klynzahr slowly crumbled to pieces over the course of her coliseum career. It was a combination of several factors, including the pressure of the crowd, a sense of responsibility for her younger brother, and genuine fear for her life. Eventually she turned to alcohol to cope and took to gambling away her winnings often in a matter of nights. This habit forced her into the ring more frequently, which intensified her anxieties, which lead to drinking, which lead to gambling, which sent her back to the bloodsands in an extremely vicious cycle. At the start of ARR it had gotten so bad that her brother Ginshaw took up adventuring and mercenary work just to get Klynzahr out of the ring. They both wound up volunteering for an auxiliary adventurer based Flame unit in the lead up to operation archon. Klynzahr survived two skirmishes and a small recon operation, before the chaos and bloodshed triggered the worst of her arena memories and she snapped completely. Deserting her unit before they had made past castrum centri's second gate, Klynzahr attempted to run but was stopped when Ultima's blast flattened half the castrum including her. To this day her brother is the only person, who knows why she actually survived that battle. These days Klynzahr is in a pretty good place. Thanks to Ginshaw, who completed several thousand gil's worth of leves to pay off her debts and buy a one way ticket out of Ul'dah, she eventually recovered enough to support herself again. Although she's still broke most of the time, she has kicked the gambling problem and gotten her drinking under control. Her temper is fairly level and she is not prone to lashing out. As for what could break her and send her back into her "2.0 state"? I think it would probably require a combination of factors. She is a year older and a year wiser, with a few more people on her side this time around. Some things that might cause a setback are being forced to kill someone, getting blown up, or getting repeatedly scared out of her mind. ...... and gods help her if she is ever exposed to the temptation of the Gold Saucer. Kellach Woods Posted July 23, 2015 Share #39 Posted July 23, 2015 Oh, there'd be plenty to make Kell snap. He's a highly unstable individual who's obsession with masks is not entirely his (remnants of his people that has awakened within him), and who often goes back to his roots in his outfits as a sort of a way to unconsciously go back home. His home is Eorzea now, but he doesn't want to forget where he's from. The problem, of course, lies in the fact that his home is currentl blockaded by the Garlean empire, and that his people's customs will undoubtedly die out from such contact. So if he heard, say, that the inhabitants of Toegisil were wiped out, he'd certainly not take it well. Enough to lead a one man crusade to exterminate any and all Garlean citizen without trial. Any means necessary, to boot. It's not the only thing but I don't think the other things would actually happen. They're unfleshed out and I may end up dropping them. Link to comment
