FancySharkette Posted February 8, 2016 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2016 I'm a little confused on Moogles. Who can see them? How do you get your mail (ic) if you can't see them? Sorry if this is a stupid question! Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted February 8, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 8, 2016 Moogles are multi-faceted beings! From what I can gather, they can (and do) hide at will, and can choose to make themselves known. The main-character (so you as you go through the main scenerio quests) is special and can see moogles in hiding who aren't trying to -really- hide. Padjals can usually see them as well, as prior to Heavensward, the only moogles we knew of were post moogles and the ones living in the Black Shroud. As such, the moogles who deliver our mail could just be a game mechanic that's cute, but there are a bunch of postmoogle quests that go into more detail on their lives. It would appear that some have taken the task to stay out in the open to help out. Link to comment
Sounsyy Posted February 8, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 8, 2016 The post-Calamity post moogle movement began at the behest of Kan-E-Senna and the Seedseers. Prior to the Calamity, moogles were exclusively, albeit incredibly rarely, seen in the Twelveswood. Even many Gridanians had gone their whole lives without ever seeing a moogle. They're very reclusive creatures. After the Calamity damaged all linkpearls and left the city-states without a fast means of communication, the Elder Seedseer asked the moogles to come from hiding and work as couriers between the city-states. Now, according to a later mail-carrier quest, these moogles still deliver their mail without being seen. They turn invisible and drop it off where the recipient will find it. The senior mail carriers who hang out in the city-states, however, remain visible near guarded areas of the city-state to receive letters. Why are moogles so reclusive? Well, one reason is that pre-Calamity, Ul'dahn traders would try to steal stray or injured moogles and take them back to Ul'dah to sell their rare pelts and poms. But to answer your original question, moogles can choose to be invisible at will. If one reveals itself to you, it either trusts you or it was a clutz and forgot to hide itself, which happens in the moogle quests. They're not exactly the most graceful creatures... Link to comment
Riven Posted February 8, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 8, 2016 It also should be noted that they're all probably in a permanent state of drunk and/or stoned. Link to comment
Miss Gaz Posted February 8, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 8, 2016 It also should be noted that they're all probably in a permanent state of drunk and/or stoned. And lazy don't forget that! Link to comment
FancySharkette Posted February 8, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted February 8, 2016 Ah, I see. I'll probably just make it so that the letter is left strategically or something. Thanks everyone for the input! Link to comment
ckingch Posted February 9, 2016 Share #7 Posted February 9, 2016 Don't forget about the moogle in the escort leve (I think near Quarrymill) who purposefully stays visible because he wants to be famous, so he needs you to escort him so he doesn't get eaten by the wild animals out there. RiniKett Posted February 9, 2016 Share #8 Posted February 9, 2016 Is it possible for some of the bought moogles to still be circulating from when they were stolen? I hadn't heard of this before and it's sort of interesting. Is there a black market trade on moogles somewhere in Ul'dah? >.> What are the possibilities that a character could befriend a moogle? So many questions. Link to comment
Ashe Posted February 9, 2016 Share #9 Posted February 9, 2016 I'd probably avoid having multiple moogle friends as apart of my character...or walking around with one (as I've seen many people do and don't get why). The only job that a moogle "friend" is probably needed is Bard... I know a few people who want to be/who are IC bards (the magical bow shooting, song singing type...not the tavern hopping type). They need to have a moogle interaction. But ICly walking around with one all the time is probably discouraged... I tend to avoid moogles ICly to avoid this confusion but that's just me. Sounsyy Posted February 9, 2016 Share #10 Posted February 9, 2016 Is it possible for some of the bought moogles to still be circulating from when they were stolen? Oh... Um... I-I'm not quite sure how to say this... those moogles were um... skinned... and killed... I don't think, erm, they're still around 5 years later. =x Y'know, except in the form of mog-fur quivers? Also, incredibly expensive skins according to J'moldva: Moogles are extremely rare in the other nations. There are even rumors that they are abducted and sold on Ul'dah's black market─for scarcely believable sums. What are the possibilities that a character could befriend a moogle? So many questions. Rare, but possible I guess. Before the Calamity, some of the Twelveswood moogles looked after the orphaned Gridanian children from afar. They didn't reveal themselves to them though. (They did visit Gridania during one of the Cleansing Rites to talk to the Player Character specifically though and they danced with some of the children because they'd been asking the moogles for a while.) Anyways, it's not something that happens in the story, but I guess technically it can technically happen. Jehantel the Godsbow is friends with some moogles? I'd say it'd be impossible outside of the Twelveswood though, I mean, unless this friendship were incredibly recently? Link to comment
Unnamed Mercenary Posted February 9, 2016 Share #11 Posted February 9, 2016 The Gridanian quests Sounsyy's referring to can be watched in this youtube playlist. It does basically show all the 1.0 MSQ for Gridnaia's opening, which includes stuff on Moogles, Woodsin and angry Elementals. Link to comment
