Kylin Posted July 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2010 Famitsu Magazine has recently published a new article revealing new classes for the Disciplines of Land and Hand. The new classes are: Goldsmith, Harvester, Armourer, Woodworker, and Fisherman. Harvester: This discipline of land has quite the green thumb, dealing in the cultivation or vegetables, grains, and weaving materials, tending to fruit trees, and collecting herbs and even lumber with the help of their trusty hatchet. They have excellent trade relations with many crafters, such as woodworkers, weavers, alchemists, and even culinarians. They do much of their work in Gridania, with its excellent irrigation system. The harvester holds communication with plants in the utmost importance. Fisherman: These netpullers put their all into everything having to do with fishing. With their fishing rods, they are masters of surf-, river- and boat-fishing, taking into account the season, time, and weather when choosing their tools, fishing points and bait. Since their occupation takes them to many interesting but dangerous places, it is not out of the ordinary to hire a discipline of war as an escort. Armourer: Armourers work wonders when their raising hammers hit sheet metal. From a simple plate of metal, they can bring forth plate mail, a chain cap, or many other kinds of armors. Blacksmiths used to handle armor crafting, but as sheet-metal-handling techniques improved, masters of this craft began to emerge. It is now recognized world-wide as its own craft. Woodworker: Crafters who use their Hand Saws to manipulate wood. They have intimate knowledge of the rigidity, sturdiness, weight and value of various kinds of wood. Their craft is used in making furniture and other handy items. Woodworking developed in Limsa Lominsaâs shipyards and in constructing the high-rises of Ishgard. From the creation of gigantic buildings down to small ritual masks, Gridania, in particular, makes good use of its wealth of fine woods. Goldsmith: A Crafter that uses gold and other precious metals and gems to create jewelry. Their primary tool is a Chasing Hammer. They also have the ability to modify and strengthen weapons, armor, and other equipment with decorations. Most of the materials involved are pricy, and the trade is often high risk, high return. A keen eye for market trends is a must have. Edit: Official names may change. For instance, I believe woodworker is supposed to be "carpenter." Time will tell though. Link to comment
Soren Miren Posted July 7, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2010 Bah! Now I must re-evaluate whether Soren shall be an alchemist or a goldsmith...*ponders* Glad to see they are revealing more classes, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for at least one more Disciple of Magic. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted July 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2010 there was a runmored list of datamined jobs around here somewhere... (Under the spoilers) Seems the list is coming true, which means we may see the mysterious staff user, Arcanist, Bard, and awesome whip user. Link to comment
Shamadconde Posted July 7, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 7, 2010 I was debating whether or not to bring that up. Looks like I can stop debating. Link to comment
Eva Posted July 7, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2010 Yes, I saw this awhile back and was also intrigued by Flayer. I just get the feeling it's going to be overhyped by some people because it's different or for certain other connotations - most of us saw how quickly the DRK stigma took hold... :frustrated: Sadly, this might be enough to make me not want to play a job I might otherwise enjoy... Soren Miren Posted July 7, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 7, 2010 Yeah, I've seen that list. Wasn't sure how true it may be this close to launch but after this news... I'm so curious to know what the Arcanist and Mystic could be =O Also, Samurai ftw <3 Link to comment
Akashi Posted July 7, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 7, 2010 The classes seem rather bland on the outside compared to the iconic classes of the past. No Dragoon, Summoner, Red Mage, etc.. don't really like the way SE is approaching that in this game. Link to comment

Shamadconde Posted July 8, 2010 Share #12 Posted July 8, 2010 Red mage was........STOP LOOKING AT ME! Link to comment
Ellion Goto Posted July 8, 2010 Share #13 Posted July 8, 2010 From my understanding, the classes are supposed to be rather bland (at first) as opposed to the games in Final Fantasy past. This is because they wanted to make the classes general enough to build and customize onto instead of reaching into a specific niche.I'm honestly surprised to see anything related to Samurai and the like specifically at all to be honest. From my understanding they only have names in the English version because we like to categorize a lot. In the Japanese version I heard they were just called like, "Fighter" or "Caster" or something. I don't care so much about the general growth of the classes because the real charm comes from blending them to make your own out of the archetype list. Link to comment
Guest Posted July 8, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 8, 2010 Hmm, if this unoficial list comes to light before launch I'm going to have to change some of my history. Go Go Ocupation: Master Herder! Link to comment
Eltharian Posted July 8, 2010 Share #15 Posted July 8, 2010 Even if that list holds true upon release, I'm still still sticking to my guns (or bow) on archer, I just love that class. Though I have to admit that Arcanist and Mystic sound intriguing, and Bard would be cool. Now to update the library section. Link to comment
Aveline Posted July 8, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 8, 2010 I played bard all the way to end-game in FFXI, and while I loved it, I don't know if I would play it again in FFXIV. I know for certain my character is going to go through a few 'professions,' starting with pugilist (because it fits her story), switching to a tank, and also a money-making class like weaver or culinarian. I would LOVE a job that uses pistols (not muskets or rifles, but pistols!), but we will see if that happens. Link to comment
Smiling River Posted July 8, 2010 Share #17 Posted July 8, 2010 Damn SE, they changed it from Botanist to Gatherer? Alright, seems like a very well-rounded Land class which is even better than I had expected. It fits with a weird hobby I randomly thought of for Mason, woodcutting, as well as botany. I am satisfied Link to comment
Saitou Posted July 8, 2010 Share #18 Posted July 8, 2010 Like few others has said does kinda make you wonder if there is truth to this list. If that's the case could throw a wrench into my character creation process, as was originally making my main a conjurer though if there's a chance that samurai does end up there.... may have to reconsider. Kashemia Posted July 9, 2010 Share #19 Posted July 9, 2010 If they release the flayer, Seraj is so becoming one! I don't care how many else is... Almost <.< But yeah, it probably will be popular, since it's quite different. But part of me doubts it will be out at launch. I'll still have to look in to the "of the land" and "of the hand" ones.. For some reason, my characters are never really the crafter types... Maybe because I usually don't enjoy it very much in game  Link to comment
Seraphine Felstar Posted July 9, 2010 Share #20 Posted July 9, 2010 My thoughts on this are that in FFXI there were only 5 starting classes. When you reached level 30 you could go unlock Advanced Jobs. I'm wondering if those are going to be the Advance Jobs in FFXIV. Most of the jobs they have right now seem like very basic jobs or jobs that would be excellent support for a more Advanced Class. Another thing that makes me think this could be the case is that fishing in FFXIV is now horrible if you're below level 20. This is an anti-RMT measure and I think it makes sense that they would carry that tactic over to FFXIV. Why solve a problem and then ditch what you learned? >.> This is only conjecture, of course, but I do think it might have some merit. BTW, if they do add Fencer I'm so reprising my old FFXI character as an alt. I made her a Red Mage because it was the closest thing, but I wanted Fencing to only be her hobby and not have combat be a huge part of her storyline. Link to comment
Eva Posted July 9, 2010 Share #21 Posted July 9, 2010 My thoughts on this are that in FFXI there were only 5 starting classes. Not to be that person, but there were 6: Warrior, Monk, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, Black Mage Link to comment
Keir Posted July 9, 2010 Share #22 Posted July 9, 2010 I think that thinking about jobs along an FFXI level is completely off the mark in this game. They seem to be working real hard to center jobs around a weapon or task rather than around a specific class. I'm not sure there will be "Advanced Jobs." It seems to me more likely that there will be abilities that allow you to train more techniques with your current job. Then again, I could be wrong! Link to comment

I remember reading something about "Leveling" being absent from FFXIV. If this is so, the concept of job advancement/leveling like we saw in FFXI is completely inappropriate to compare FFXIV with: they are two very different job systems, they just look similar. Can someone (perhaps in the Beta?) confirm if there is a concept similar to the leveling from 1-80 we saw in FFXI? Link to comment
Zhavi Posted July 9, 2010 Share #24 Posted July 9, 2010 I'm too busy drooling over the thought of fishing to contribute in any significant way to this conversation. Carry on. Link to comment
Hiname Posted July 9, 2010 Share #25 Posted July 9, 2010 I think I'd ninja this and ask something more-or-less-class-related. Im a bit confused. The Disciples of War and the Hand seem to work.. fully equally. While I yet not fully understand how that turns out in combat, thats not fully the question here! *cough* Pugilists, as the "class" my friend currently favors.. for a good old styled fist to face action... What kind of armor do they wear? I'd hate to make stuff she cant use. Link to comment
