I guess I am lucky that I went ahead and rolled my would be main on Faerie. I have an alt on Balmung because at the time I wasn't sure what class I would enjoy most. I'll toss myself into the overflow RP server, but I most certainly have the intentions of heading to Balmung or Gil once server transfers are up.

It's almost 4pm EST, meaning a lot of people of getting off of work and out of school. At the time of post (for me at least) it shows all servers as closed to character creation so even claiming any server for overflow is a bit of a russian roulette.

Another refugee to Faerie here. I've been playing on Gilgamesh since P4, but the friends that I've talked into playing the game aren't able to join me there. It doesn't look like character creation restrictions are going to be lifted any time soon, and it would be ridiculous, after raving about the game to my friends, to ask them to just patiently wait so that at some unknown time in the future (maybe a couple days, maybe a couple weeks, who knows?) they'll be able to play. So we're off to Faerie, for now at least.

 

 

 

...which has gone from open to locked to open and back to locked in the time it's taken me to post this.

I'm still having internet problems right now which are giving me more lag than is playable, but I'll be around in a couple of hours. I currently don't have the ability to invite people to the teenytiny RP linkshell I've started (the person who owns it managed to get onto their gilga character and I'm not going to ask them to sign out after they've been queueing for that long) but I should soon! And it doesn't seem line being able to invite people will be a problem for a while anyway.

 

I'm not sure it's my place to say this, but hey. Let's do this thing! (Once servers open and misc. technical issues are sorted out!)

 

I'm lagging but I'll stay logged in as Cendrillonne Braids if you need to get hold of me ingame (just don't be too mad if I don't actually get your messages right now |D).

I think I'll be rolling an alt on Faerie to play with my lady friend. So I'll see some of you all there in due time.

 

 

Atrus will stay on Gilgamesh (I'll play him when the girlfriend is not playing) until world transfers happen. If it opens up more space, back to Gilgamesh. The only thing I really worry about is a server split. If it does happen, hopefully SE will try to sort it by LS's and give players the option.

 

Edit: Well crap, they're full... all of them but Coeurl (the least popular on EA/B4).

this first week is going to be deadly

 

I'm actually more worried about the long term effects in the weeks to come and reviews inbound. With this and the toxic SE Forum community on tech support, I worry new buyers may be wary of joining the game like this.

All will be forgiven from the community once they possess better logistics. Word of mouth will bring back players (hopefully a majority) since it is a well-made game, although. There will be players that won't get into it since it is rather slow when you're starting out. This is nothing more but growth pains that everyone has to deal with.

I can imagine a few veteran MMORPG'ers in this thread are feeling mighty vindicated when they (Square-Enix) stopped allowing character creation in all servers. Looks like we're going to have to wait and see now.

 

As a veteran MMORPG'er, I'm not feeling vindicated so much as I'm feeling a mighty pain in my foot as if I'd shot myself there when I think about Squeenix... ^^;

Are they going to offer free transfers eventually? I've heard rumors of it but haven't found anything official. If so, once things settle down, I'll transfer to an unofficial RP server ... but I probably wouldn't pay for it, as I'm typically strapped for cash anyway. Unless it's fairly inexpensive, unlike certain games' fee *coughWoW* :dodgy:

Well don't get too happy just yet. It says some worlds may not be available for transfer due to world population. So still a grey area that leaves nothing for certain. And if a bunch of folks seek a transfer then someone in the end can still be locked out. So...yeah. May have to pray to your gods, sacrifice chickens, throw a virgin into a volcano...

 

....wait scratch the last one out. Can't waste those!

Personally, I am in favour of Faerie. It's a P4-added server, so it has no community attached to it. Plus, and this is just me guessing, I'm banking on the name of it helping to keep away the '14 year old boys who play halo and swear a lot' crowd.

 

I can tell you Faerie is getting popular as a few Twitch TV streams have those people on that server.  So many new players have been heading there to go into the LS and the like.

Honestly, the hardest part about this launch for me is that this was the game i wanted to try out roleplaying on. I went gilg because it was a fresh start for everyone. Now more and more can't play on gilg.

 

However, I would give square a ton of respect if they give everyone 1 free server swap that started on launch, when they actually release server swaps.
