throwing up answers here (some are short, but I am having to take notes as I go) given there are more questions to come on the stream, please post in a different thread about thoughts of these questions.

Q: Lore-wise, how do you explain the large quantity of hovering monster? How do they do it? (Pugil, Jellyfish, etc.)

origin of the expletive 'thal's bloody balls'

people have hard lives, calamities happening left and right, people swear cause its natural. he wanted to get in as much swearing as possible to represent this, swearing irl is based on religion.

came forward with idea for 12 gods. Worked backwards from what can he rhyme with expletives

A little more detail (as fast as I could capture the Q-and-A's) and a little more centralized:

Q: How do you explain hovering monters? (pugil, jellyfish)

A: They have extra bladders (double bladders). Second bladder used for floating. Evolved defensive mechanism.

Q: Why are the Allagans so huge? (Xande and Amon)

A: Xande and Amon are the only two that huge. They did a lot of genetic experimentation. They wanted to be closer to the gods. Tower of Babel sort of deal.

Q: Ramuh does not seek to temper to gain followers. So why are there so many touched sylphs? Why are there any at all?

A: Some of the sylphs are a little bit crazy. Some of them offer themselves up to Ramuh for the sort of strength and devotion they see in other beast tribes. Ramuh accepts those that do; he just doesn't force dominion.

Q: Will we learn more about other Archons' pasts, like with Thancred in 2.2?

A: Yes, we will. Please look forward to it.

Q: Has there been a slow revival of White Mage and use of Succor, or is the main Player Character the one and only WHM outside of the Padjal?

A: You, the Warrior of Light, are the one and only chosen to do this. (Oda: There are other ways of getting white magic. There are other groups trying to revive white magic using nefarious means.)

Q: Was West Shroud destroyed by Dalamud, or does it still exist?

A: West Shroud was destroyed by Dalamud and yet it still exists. Gridania still trying to clean it up.

Q: What happened to the City of Amdapor, where are its inhabitants? War of the Magi, what is the name of the 5th astral era nation of black mages which went to war with Amdapor and Nym?

A: Can't give the name of the third nation (I don't know). The people that survived that war and the flood fled to the area where Belah'diah is.

Q: How old is Kan-E-Senna and why is she the only one who looks like an adult among the Padjal?

A: Late 20s (spiritual age). In the case of Kan-E-Senna, when she came back to take over the Grand Company, she's making herself look older than she is so that others take her seriously in the light of strong leadership such as Merlwyb and Raubahn.

Q: How did Company of Heroes come away with victories of Titan and Leviathan without being tempered?

A: Tried to overwhelm with numbers. Sometimes with hundreds of soldiers. First wave tempered, first and second wave fight/kill each other, third wave comes in, etc.

Q: Are there any constellations in the night sky of Eorzea with any story to them?

A: Was planned for 1.0, there are constellations up there. Ishgard: astrologians, observatorium. Heavensward, will hear stories there. E.g. Monitor movements of the dragons by the Dragonstar.

Q: Goblins, qiqirn, considered beast tribes. What do they worship? Are there associated primals?

A: Don't know. Can't say.

Q: Circle of Archons, what do the tattoos on their necks mean?

A: Archons, multiple eras of history. Nearing the end of an Astral Era, when a calamity is building up, people of the past will come to warn Eorzea. Not the same people, but they're historically called Archons. I.e. Circle of Knowing, because they warned the people, became known as Archons. Tattoos explained in 2.4

Q: Only see Hyur midlander children. What about children from the other races?

A: They're there. That locked door you can't get through? They're there. There are Elezen children in Gridania. Those are there. I was told there'd be Miqo'te children in 3.0. Eorzea is filled with things like gigantoads. Do you really want your children running around gigantoads?

Q: Thal's Bloody Balls. Origin of this expletive?

A: Stressful life in Eorzea. A lot of swearing is based on religion. Blasphemy adds strength to words. Eorzea has twelve gods they can use when they swear. Thal rhymed with Balls. Oda said he wanted something longer in Japanese. Naldthal? How about making it a double-aspected god. So underworld god got merchant aspect added, so Fern could use "Thal" to say "Thal's Balls". During Square's quality assurance check, all pop-up text bubbles needed to be filled in completely even if the final text wasnt ready. So Fern filled all these bubbles in with 300 "Thal's Balls".

Q: What does Brangwine want with adventurer's goods?

A: He wants what everyone wants, he wants money!

Q: Natural-born Garleans are either unable or do not use aether. Why is this?

A: They are genetically unable to. They kill the leaders of other nations, then assume leadership over the peoples. Even with all the information on magic that this gets them, they are genetically predisposed to not be able to use it.

Q: Why don't male Highlanders have eyebrows?

A: (To be answered on stream)

White Mage contention

other ways of getting white magic, but for the current story line, only YOU are the only one learning this way.

It's important to emphasize this answer because it confirms something else that's very important:

There aren't actually like... 2.5 million warriors of light out there or anything. You're supposed to separate the in-game story from the in-game 'reality' in that there is only a small handful of Warriors of Light even though there are loads of other players running around in-game sharing that same story. That story-gameplay separation may die down a bit as they suggest that future patches will add more avenues for RPers to get into those classes (with white magic having alternate, in his words, more "nefarious" means of being attained and of course dragoons being a major focus of 3.0).

So, uh, yeah. You are perfectly justified in playing a regular Joe if being that super-special snowflake doesn't sit right with you.

2/14 of my questions answered. Looking forward to next bit. I was madly scribbling notes of my own. Will of course continue to do so.

Lore Panel Notes:

Greenrot – disease studied by Arcanists in 1.0.

Merchants tried to sell “cures” for Greenrot for easy money. Arcanists try to prevent.

Executioners Guild – marauder’s guild. Used to be guild of executioners. Bloody Executioners is a shout out to the fact Marauder’s were originally designed to be Executioners.

Scarwing Fall – dragonsong war – Scarwing was hero of Dravania. Ishgardians developed Ballista to take down Scarwing. Scarwing fell into a deep ravine. Don’t know if dead or not.

Weeping Vale – land force battle between ishgard and dravanians. Ishgardians drew in the dragons as a sacrifice. @ the Choke, the Ishgardians ambushed those dragons and killed them.

The Unholy Heir – appeared just after Calamity. Rumor by smallfolk started that that huge rock is actually “Bahamut’s Egg.”

Legend: Aldenard, Ilsa, Othard were brothers. Very close. Only the brothers grew jealous of Aldenard. So Ilsa and Othard left Aldenard, so the 12 saw this and blessed Aldenard.

Plate techtonics confirmed!

QUESTIONS!

How do you explain floating monsters?

-extra float bladders. One for bladder things, other bladder for flotation. Fills with noxious gas and allow flotation. Some Vilekin, Wavekin, and Scalekin have it.

Why are allagans so huge?

-genetic manipulation. Allagans highly advanced society. (XANDE ATE ALL THE FOOD!) drama bomb.

Ramuh tempers?

-Judge, man of reasons. Sylphs are crazy. They want a strong leader. Sylphs want what other beast tribes have. Ramuh does not force Temperance. “Touched Sylphs”

Thancred’s past? Other Archons?

-yes, 3.0 explains more other Circle of Knowing members past.

White Mage only one?

-ONLY ONE WARRIOR OF LIGHT! WHITE MAGE ONLY ONE. Storywise. Boom. There are other ways of getting White Magic. Other groups trying to resurrect Succor by nefarious methods.

West Shroud?

-still exists, but was destroyed by Dalamud.

3rd Nation of Black Mages?

-Sil’dih and Ul’dah both came from Belah’dia, but that was 6th Astral. 5th Astral Era magi survived and migrated to Belah’dia. Name UNKNOWN!

Old is kan-e?

-20s. spiritually. Kan-E makes herself appear older so she will be respected. Physically only in her teens.

Company of Heroes without echo?

-company of heroes crushed primal with weight of numbers. 1st wave would go in, get tempered, battle second wave, then fight primal.

Constellations?

-yes! There are constellations! Astrologians watch for Dragonstar. When dragonstar in sky, dravanians attack.

Other beast tribes worship primal? Goblin/Qiqirn

-religion not important in their every day lives. Possible worship of primal, but fernehalwes cannot say yet.

Circle of Knowing actually Archons?

-Circle of Knowing ARE Archons! Archons goes back multiple eras. Near end of astral era, people that remembered the past will come to eorzea and inform them that Umbral eras are coming. Those prepared people will survive. This happens repeatedly every astral era closing. Different Archons every time. Circle of Knowing BECAME archons. Tattoos on their neck will be explained 2.4

Hyur children? Other children?

-they’re there obviously. Elezen children in grid. Miqo’te children will be in 3.0.

THALS bloody balls?

-fernehalwes likes swearing. Religious blasphemy is common in our curses, so in Eorzea our Twelve Gods have their own curse words attached to them. Twelve’s names created because they were easy to swear with. Thal was named because it rhymed with balls. AND CUT OFF VIDEO

Brangwine with deceased goods?

-sell them. Money. Always about money.

Garleans and Aether?

-genetically unable to. They have the knowledge, just can’t use it. They don’t destroy nations that they take them over. They kill leaders, but keep nations ongoing. They have access to all the nation’s info they conquer.

Lyrics to Heavensfall trailer:

Beneath the gazing stars

Veils deep forest dark

Betrayed deep by loyal hands

Added from additional stream!

Fernehalwes Ahriman?

-Fernehalwes great man in Eorzea! Went back to the Void. LOL. Yoshi might not yet be aware…

Faeries that accompany Scholars? What are they?

-fall into same category as Sprites, Elementals. Elementals rule Black Shroud and out. Sprites and Faes are lesser elementals. Draw from aether in the world for power.

Train Line in Black Brush?

-Built and operates by Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern. Made to make it easier to transport ore from mines like nanawa to Black Brush. Private railroad track made to cut costs.

Scions have Echo?

-NO! they do not. Cannot elaborate. Most scions have echo, because they are part of Path of the Twelve. Whereas Circle of Knowing are archons from sharlayan.

Cross-racial?

-adventurers come from different land. From places slightly more “progressive.” Live together but separate. Hyur and elezen had wars. A lot of bad blood between races. Recently races to come together in single nations. Cross Racial is possible, but it doesn’t happen a lot. It’s a cultural thing. 3.0 there will be a cross-racial union.

Age scales? How long do they live?

-five races biologically live similar life spans as real world. 100-120 possible. But because Eorzea is so harsh, it’s much less likely for someone to live out their full life expectancy. BLM lalafell IS an exception to the rule. Elezen have slightly extended lifespan from other FOUR races. Childhood for elezen lasts longer than others.

Who are the other Legatus? How are the War of Succession going?

-cannot answer. 2.4 spoilers! “coming in awesome form”

Lore Library?

-Fernehalwes and Oda want to do lore library! YUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Great Library confirmed? Lol nonofficial. Up to yoshi

Why don’t male highlanders have eyebrows?

-highlanders violent clan always warring. Amongst each other and with elezen and with midlanders. Everyone fights in their culture. Shaving eyebrows off to strike fear in enemies.

Aetheryte Radio Interview

Do days of the week have names?

-yes, same as xi

Ascians in 2.0 same as 1.0?

-Ascians have ability to take over person body and control them. This was case with Travanchet. Travanchet was a real person but was taken over by an ascian.

Reaper?

-reaper can't talk about.

Primal vs Elder Primal?

-Length of Worship. how long have they been worshiped. you have someone worship you and you become that primal. you get power from prayer. so the belief that drives the beasttribes summons forth the primals. when you look at ifrit and titan they are considered very young. people haven't been believing in them as long as the Elder Primals. in the case of Odin, people worshipped him a looooooooooong time ago, but people stopped worshipping him, so he stopped coming about.

Ascian names borrowed from XII? Is there a deeper connection between Elder Primals and Ascians?

-FF is about borrowing and adjusting it for each game. the XIV game is made up of a lot of XII developers, so they borrowed heavily from the game. they loved the lore. XIV's ascian storyline is drawn heavily from XII. what we see in XIV may have strong connections to XII, but it might not be as deep a connection as we think.

In 1.0 CNJ had access to all six elements, but then THM came about.?

-We blew up and weren't able to put it back together and we cannot explain this. Some things you just don't explain and hope players don't notice. When we decided we needed to make the break between the elements, we had some say in which elements went which way.

All Six primals revealed, which one stopped Garleans?

-All six is not correct. More primals are coming. More primals are canon. Shiva is going to destroy our perceptions of what Primals are and their rules of primals are about to be... not tossed but spun out. Shiva will open up new gateway for new kinds of primals. Ferne cannot tell us which primal stopped the garleans. It's not going to be talked about for a long time, but eventually we will know. PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO IT

Officially, it's now the 7th Astral Era?

-Political thing. Five years ago, half the world was basically destroyed and it was only because Louisoux half-stopped things that people are even still around after the calamity. People still died, livelihoods were destroyed, lands were changed. NPC dialogue is now depressed and reflective of the Calamity. People in all of the nations are pretty much down. Big war with the Garleans, but now they are coming together and Grand Companies were formed. So Grand Company leaders were waiting for something good to happen. So once something did, they announced 7th Astral Era to boost their nation's morale. Purely political decision. So we are, YES, technically in the 7th Astral Era now, not Umbral.

Atomos? Labyrinth of the Ancients?

-Atomos kept getting pushed back. There are plans to have quest for Atomos. Void and rifts open between planes. Planes in constant state of flux, so when they get close sometimes tears occur naturally. But can be opened by magic or beasts. Atomos wants to consume aether, and he can sense rifts. When rifts happen, Atomos is first to go through and suck up as much aether as possible.

Lore about conflicts between Hyur and Elezen?

-Tension between races because bloody history between them. They never made up but put aside their issues. They don't really like each. They just put up with each other because common enemy. In beginning of the 6AE the Elezen migrated back in, then hyur migrated and tried to take Elezen lands. Clashing and moving apart - gets ingrained in their society. Lalafell will rise on occasion and attack other races, for example. In 3.0 we will have half-races. But they are treated different. Quest will come to explain.

Allag all hyur?

-You haven't seen all Allag.

Diabolos and Fenrir have always been big in FF past, but now they're only dungeon bosses?

-Can answer half. Can't answer Fenrir. When you defeat Diabolos, did you really defeat him? You should check out the scene after you defeat Diabolos...

What was the original plan for Dalamud?

-In the 1.0 storyline before Yoshida there was NO plan to bring down the moon. He looked up, saw the two moons that had always been there. Lambs of Dalamud came after hearing Yoshi's ideas for how to make 1.0 into 2.0. Allagans back in that time knew what Dalamud was for. They had the power to bring it back, but didn't want to obviously. Then the Calamity happened and people forgot. But the story gets passed down and corrupted until you get Lambs of Dalamud. They are driven by belief that Dalamud is strong, while Menphina is weak. Because that's what my father believed and my father's father. All the way back to ancient Allag. In Final Coil you get to see the FINAL CULMINATION of everything that came from BRING DOWN THE MOON.

Landmark names? There's a spire named after Dunstan?

-Dunstan was second in command of the Wood Wailers. In the final battle, he kicked some arse and earned his respect.

Teledji Adeledji connected to Ul bloodline?

-He is not part of Ul bloodline. he has different bloodline, but ferne can't talk about it yet. spoilers!

Rhotano Bloodcant? Referred to ancient seafarers language which might have been connected to a horn that the sahagin wanted...

-language is yes, sahagin based.

Is EYNZAHR SLAFYRSYN NANAMO'S FATHER???????

-there are a lot of Mistbeards... he runs off and hides his treasure. when one fades away, another pirate takes his place. Mistbeard legends go on forever. The fact that it is a rumor is how it's supposed to be. He refuses to say! DAMNIT FERNE WHYYYYY

Ixali have staves which have symbols of Llymlaen and Oschon? How does Garuda care?

-Garuda doesn't care. Ixal are crazy compared to Amaljaa who are more advanced and sylphs who are down to earth. Ixal are crazy and hate everyone. They kill their enemies and take their things. They loot them, and that's why they have those staves.

Origin of how Faeries became Scholar's fairies?

-While they are taxonomy of Elementals, they were made by Scholars. They were created by Scholars out of the power of the elementals.

Amberscale Rock and the story of the boy and the boy of the dragon?

-It is not THE dragon from the Boy and Dragon Gay. You will learn more about dragons in 2.4.

In the most recent dungeons (SV hard) there are thaumaturges who turn themselves into dragons. Is it permanent, is it temp?

-PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO IT. We lay down tons of hints because we know what it's going to culminate into. Foreshadowing is a really cool thing.

Allag have spacefaring technology, but what destroyed them was an earthquake. How? Are there spaceships still out there?

-/laughs suspiciously. There aren't a lot of spaceships, similar to real life. They were very technologically advanced and in their hubris they reached too high. But most people were down on hydaelyn listening to ipods. Allagan tomestones = canon USB. But yes, they did have spaceships. Did one or two get away? /shrug.

-There are always people out there who read their history and realize the destruction comes in a cycle. These archons become legends, but they're just people. They get agrandized over time in legend as being people of the Gods and such.

Lots of Data logs, like sightseeing and minions? Are more coming?

-You're safe making your own beastiary. Until we get the okay for an in-game library...

Is Stallman dead?

-NO! (yussssssssssssssssssssssss) So much love for Stallman! Ferne says he will bring Stallman back.

Everything seems to be connecting to Dravanians now! Did the Sharlayans chose to settle there because of Dravanians?

-No, they're not as close as the map makes it seem. Sharlayans weren't in danger. But even now, they've left Sharlayan anyways and gone back to Island Sharlayan. The Sharlayans came to Eorzea to study us. They are a city-state of knowledge. They send people back to catalog. There was some connection between Sharlayan and Dravania, but not that big. Sharlayan city-state was just an outpost.

Other curse words related to twelve?

-Matron's Teats! What a bounty indeed! We have a teen rating, but we have colorful language descriptors. We use british swears because they're less of a curse word to america. We're always trying to push the boundaries, ie nueker.

-Ixals have super high pitched voices. Think Chamberlain from Dark Crystal.

-david bowie's package traumatizes fernehalwes.

So, uh, yeah. You are perfectly justified in playing a regular Joe if being that super-special snowflake doesn't sit right with you.

How could there ever have been any question about this? O.o

The story line is an obvious single-player story thrust upon an MMO.

AHHHH THEY ANSWERED IT! AHAHAHA YESSSSSS!

I was hoping that they would explain that the Echo is actually more common than the super-special-snowflake storyline was suggesting.

But NOPE!
