I've got nearly enough Alexandrite for THREE Novuses at this point, and that's just from doing the daily on a regular basis.

That being said... honestly? If you're still on the Novus phase you may as well just save up for the soldiery weapon, then the poetics weapon. Much less time and effort involved, and ultimately less monotonous and grindy.

That's great, I'm happy for you.

I don't PVE. I log on to RP. If I wanted to invest the time, sure I'd be up to speed.

I'm only interested in the shiny gold Excalibur. And I've already resigned myself to the fact I'll never have it. My care level is low to moderate.

I was only interested in if I'd have something feasible to do while waiting for others to log on to RP with. If I can get even 1 Alexandrite for every 3 FATEs now, then it's worth it.

{edit} Since the phase was introduced, I have never gotten an Alex from a FATE. I even ground another ATMA for the glamour.

I got 3 of my Alexandrite from FATEs, and it was a slog. It wasn't really feasible before, that's why I'm biting to see what the rate is now. They could have honestly jacked it up by 10x the old one and it would still blow, compared to soldiery/maps acquisition speed.

I never bothered with FATEs for Alexandrite. It was slow going, but I find just completing the roulettes for the day and the daily map allowed for one or two and sometimes even three Alexandrite a day. And still left me plenty of time to hop on over to Chachan for some RP.

I'm just curious to see how much the Light has been boosted, since I'm on that particular stage myself.

In other news, you need 2000 allied seals for one carbon coat and 3000 allied seals for one carbon twine. 3000 allied seals. Three. Thousand.

On the plus side, they doubled all allied seal rewards so it's not as bad as it looks... but it was still 750 allied seals per sands of time, so they effectively doubled the cost per item.

The Hunt has truly become an epic grind.

Oh.

I will never understand the mindset of people who don't... actually... play the game, but still, my condolences.

She's still playing the game! Just in her own way. Nothing wrong with putting more emphasis on RP and character interaction than dungeon trolling and raiding.

I've been finding myself leaning more and more towards that approach considering how much fun I have with Chachan. I still run my daily roulettes and such so that I have the tomes to kit up, though. Need to be geered enuff to help out folks if they need someone for a run of something.

Also, getting back to the update itself! I'm even more eager to try Wanderer's Palace HM now that I've heard the full track. The snippet in the sneak peak video was nice, too, really... I love the build-up and the heroic overtures. Totally feel-good tonberry-saving music.

Oh, and if Light intake has been DOUBLED, I might actually be able to make it to the next stage before 3.0!

*Hugs* No worries. I have three atma. LOL. I want the Ragnarok but I've also resigned myself to never having it because I simply dont want to spend my day grinding away at alexandrite, spiritbonding, hunting for materia, light farming and all the blahs. Give me my tomestone weapon please thank you.

For those that have the time and want the zodiac, I applaud you and respect your efforts but please lets not blast people for "only" having completed x or y in that questline.

But these people are playing wrong. How will they know if I don't publicly thumb my nose at them in a passive-aggressive manner?

I think strutting around with Excalibur works well enough. Especially if you dye it so that it stands out even more. CHECK OUT MY NEAT SWORD, DON'T YOU WISH YOU HAD THIS NEAT SWORD?

To be honest I thought the response was more about "Oh but the dailies will have given you the items for soldiery/poetics weapon" and not about the Zodiac Weapon line.

And Coat's response is really just "I login to RP not do dailies."

But really... the Zodiac line is more of a time consumer than any of the raid content weapons imo. Atma collecting? Time wasted. Fate waiting? Time wasted. Nexus light farming? Time wasted. Zodiac item drops? Time wasted.

*wasted word of the beholder.

But here's the thing. You relinquish any right to complain about progression if you're not actually participating in the progression outside of the most noncommittal fashion.

If you want something enough, you put in the time. If not, no biggy, you obviously didn't want it enough if you couldn't bring yourself to make sacrifices for it, so you have to let it go. In FFXIV's case everything will eventually get nerfed to irrelevance anyway after enough time has passed.

I want that Wootz plate set but there's no way in hell I'm paying the 2m+ just for a set of glamour, so I wait.

Besides that, the relic quest is so damn obviously a timesink anyway. No one should be surprised at this point that every step is as grindy as the last.

To be quite clear, I was not complaining about anything. I was merely inquiring if anyone could confirm drop rates increased.

Coat doesn't need me playing defense on her behalf, but this isn't what was happening. Coat requested information that people playing might have, and the response was "What, you're still on that? I've done that three times over! You shouldn't bother, just do X Y Z instead." In what dimension is that helpful?

Oh, you don't want to spend 2m on glamours? I've got already got all crafts 4* and HQ'd my own while offline in my sleep. You should just get dungeon gear, it's not worth the hassle. What else does anyone do with their time? You don't get to complain about the requirements for glamours if you're not even putting forth the token amount of leves and ixal dailies to progress. What do you even do with your time?

See?

Anyway, to source my claim from earlier, Slycer over at BG has done wonderful work as always.

This.....

This annoys me. I have a child, a spouse, a full time job, and my spouse doesnt speak English nor drives so my family is dependent on me to take care of most of our living. That said, I want the Ragnarok. Because I have rl obligations and not a lot of time available to play the game, does that mean I don't want it enough? Making sacrifices....like not investing time with my son, or at least socializing somewhat with my friends in game so I am not a recluse? See....making statements like this shows a level elitism that annoys someone like me seeing as I do the best I can, as do the others. Doesn't mean I don't want the item. Just means I don't have the time needed to do it.

But maybe I shouldn't play the game seeing as based on the above I'm probably a filthy casual.

I -think- that even before ATMA drop rates were increased, the rate for Alexandrites from FATES were abysmally low. Like, very very very low. Primal mount levels of low.

No one I know who has done this weapon line went that route because with the maps you get one every day which is much better than 1 Alexandrite in months.

See?

Fair enough.

I'm just incredulous that someone could be stuck on the Novus phase at this point in time. The idea that someone would subscribe to the game and yet not even bother running the 1 expert roulette a day (a 20-30 minute time investment) is kind of alien to me.

But obviously, I have a lot of free time, so my perspective is skewed. I do apologize for that.

No, you just shouldn't bother with the relic quest because it's obviously not intended for you. Likewise with Coil. I mean, that's all I'm saying here.

I don't even bother trying to wrangle up parties for Coil because I KNOW I'm not willing to put in the time and effort to keep a party going for that junk. Too much work for too little gain. Even if I really would like to progress my gear and get that lovely Ironworks bow, the content is clearly not intended for someone with my level of investment, so I don't bother. The gear eventually becomes easy enough to obtain down the line anyway, so I have little worth complaining about besides maybe my own impatience. And RNG. Screw RNG!

Only 20-30 minutes a day? You don't run a DPS, do you? Just getting INTO an expert can take over 30 minutes, much less running the thing, and Twelve help you if you've been waiting 25 minutes for the queue to pop, and suddenly need a bio-break, and come back to find the queue popped, and 40 seconds was not enough time for you to get back.

Seriously, and I am going to say it, because frankly, I'm too thick-skinned to care what you think of me for saying it, but Zyrusticae, you could really stand to take another look at the name of this forum. Do you remember what the "R" in "RPC" stands for?

It stands for people who might like RP more than grinding. And this is the forum for those people. It is not the forum for people who are going to come here and suggest that others just ain't hardcore enough. There are official forums for that.

Everyone could all do to stand down.

Everyone has a place here so long as a) Rules are followed and B) They're not being asshats even if following the Rules.

Telling people otherwise is unwelcome to everyone.

Oh yeah?! OH YEAH?! WELL LET ME TELL YOU WHAT I THINK OF THAT, KAGE

Yeah, you're probably right. There's not intonation in text and sometimes things we write come off differently than how they're intended. I don't think Z meant any offense with his posts. I feel the wording was a little insensitive but the message was the same. There's a wealth of difference between "This is geared towards folks with lots of time to spend trudging through older content" and "This isn't for you, you're not dedicated enough for it" even if the point is still the same.

Let's all take a moment, drink heavily from our boot flasks, and move on.

THERE, I SAID IT. COME AT ME.

That said I know that Coat has mentioned wanting to get the Excalibur while making the most of the time had. The most time efficient way to do so, in my opinion, when you're at the Novus stage is to do the 1 map per day from expert roulette. Yes it will involve the unlocking of dungeons etc, but it will be much more time efficient than running around FATE grinding. Unless they drop like flies, of which I have seen no evidence, you will make much more progress with the 1 expert roulette per day than you would on FATEs (relying on RNG most of all).

Edit: I mean, 1 map per day = ~1.5 hours at most = 1 Alexandrite towards Novus.

Vs spending hours+ running around battling RNG when you could be RPing. Wouldn't it be easier to have a set schedule? Plus you also know lots of healers and DPS to drag along. I mean, who the hell wouldn't want to go with Coat for the daily roulette that will help. Cap. Poetics.

While I love the idea of making Hunts relevant again by adding Carboncoat/twine to the revamped rewards...

It's still 75 A rank kills to a twine, or 30 S ranks. I just don't have that sort of time, and you can bet that the quick-pulling is about to be well underway again. My only regret is not stockpiling seals ahead of time; I know a few people who sat at 4000/4000 who will be "ahead" of the curve now.

I'll stick to my CT weekly, thanks.
