  1. The linkshell hall...? All right, I would never have found that if you hadn't pointed me to it. Thank you so much! Regarding forums being outdated: I would be inclined to agree if the communities that run discords and tumblrs had a reliable way to get the word out to people who don't know about them....That isn't a forum. Edit: Ah, the discord link no longer works, either! Still, I've a name to get in touch with!
  2. Personally what bothers me about the move to Discord is that it feels so hard to get into as a new player. You have to already know the Discord exists, AND who to contact about joining it, and how, in order to have access to it and its information. And I've found that really troublesome. For example, as an EU roleplayer I would love to know what is going on on Omega, but I am having real trouble finding this information. A google search brings up no forums and mostly posts that are 6 months old. The official omega forum on the XIV website barely has any posts related to RP, and I was not able to easily find a post about any RP resources that might exist. For new players, this is a problem. That to me has always been the upside of a forum. If I type "XIV RP" into google search, this forum will be one of the first hits, and it's the same for most other MMO's who maintain similar resources. So even as a complete newcomer, I can find out where I need to go. And now I feel like I can't. That being said I can understand why people may not want to use the RPC in particular. Even as a Balmung player, I have had people "warn" me about it. It seems the RPC has a bit of a reputation, probably acquired years ago. I don't see much drama on the forums right now, but I know reputations tend to stick. And in the end what you need is a resource, but this doesn't necessarily have to be an existing one, or the one that has been around the longest. Making your own can also seem practical. Personally I would be happy with *a* forum for each community, at least.
  3. I always announce my presence via a /e or other actions if I am spying on someone. It only seems polite to let others know. After all, they may not want that kind of interaction. This does mean that players can, and sometimes will, metagame and tactfully not mention things they otherwise would when I'm around. But I perhaps naively feel that if a player is the type to metagame, perhaps I've chosen the wrong person to spy on and it's not right to mistrust people as a starting point.
  4. It was thanks to my classmates who really hated roleplay. I was in high school, and I'd just begun playing this game called World of Warcraft. Just about my entire class played it. A few of the boys started talking about these roleplay servers, and the "weirdos" that inhabited it, acting out a role and pretending to be their characters and how weird that was, and I thought "Hey, that sounds pretty cool" and made a character on an RP server to see what that was like. I didn't have anyone to tutor me. I was really, really terrible at first, making the most cringe-worthy character backgrounds because I simply didn't know the first thing about RP or the setting. It took a few months, but I eventually found my feet and acquired enough knowledge and writing ability to write a coherent character background, applied for my first RP guild with whom I stayed for years, and the rest is history!
  5. Oooh, she sounds like a wonderfull fit for A'riali! She's still young herself and only just began travelling in an effort to prove herself and move beyond her quiet hometown life. While not a tribal, it sounds like they have a lot in common (And some interesting diffrences). Here is her wiki, if you're curious. If you'd like to meet, I'd be more then happy to arrange something!
  6. A'riali often gathers herbs while out hunting, she could help supply Mana with the reagents she needs. Do let me know if you're interested!
  7. Not an engineer, but I'd definitely be up for meeting the character and trying to form some bonds! Also in the EU timezone here (GMT+2? I can never remember) so it'd be great to have more contacts on this hemisphere! Will try to catch you in-game.
  8. Hey! Welcome back to FFXIV! I only recently started exploring the game and community myself, it's always nice to meet more additions to the community. I hope to see you in-game.
  9. Ah! Sorry, it's UTC+2/GMT+1! Do let me know if you'd like my discord for planning.
  10. Character Name: A'riali Soro Time-zone (OOC): GMT+1 Location Preference (IC): Gridania/Ul'dahn Style (pick one): Slice of Life/Adventure! Either would be great. Spirit (pick one): A bit of both. Tone (pick one): Light Anything Specific you might want: A'ri doesn't get to see much of the world beyond Gridania, so some exploration RP would be fun!
  11. Hello! Your character sounds very interesting. Though our timezones are far apart I'd love to try and bring her in contact with my Miqo, be it for an occasional chat or a long-term plot I'm a sucker for the more long-term plotlines, and Ul'dahn will soon be a destination for A'riali. Ari is a bit of her polar opposite, being a Gridanian youth who reveres nature, but I think opposites can make for very interesting scenes. If you feel the same, I'l try and catch you online sometime!
  12. Hey, welcome to Balmung! I've only just arrived on the server myself. It's a great place with great people, though, I'm sure you'l find a place in no time! I look forward to meeting some of your characters :3
  13. UPDATE with an additional request! I've had some amazing success in this thread, and I'm very gratefull for everybody who replied here, most of whom I've also met in-game and have had great times with. This community is amazing! With that I've decided to go for gold and open up direct family for players as well: I am now also looking for players willing to play A'riali's adoptive brother, sister, or even mother or father! I'd decided she grew up amongst Elezen, but I am open to changing that if an interested party steps forward! It wouldn't be very hard at all to do. Therefore, if your character is Gridanian and seeking an adoptive relative, please get in touch so we can discuss it! I'l try to contact anyone who wants to meet her so that we can set something up too, the more the merrier. :chocobo:
  14. Sure I'd be up for doing a scene or two I have like 5 characters and will probably re-work half of them so I'm sure we can come up with something that would fit with yours! I'll try and find you in game tonight! Oh, please do! I read your reply in my thread as well and would be very interested in talking about it. Sadly adding your char name to the friends list didn't work out for some reason, so please poke me when you see me online, or add me on A'riali Soro!
  15. Main Character's Name: A'riali Soro Alts: None Brief descriptions and/or links to any Wiki's: A very young-looking Miqo'te with a keen talent for archery, especially longbow archery. Unscarred and clearly in very good health, at the prime of her life. Strangely carries a family surname. Usually online between: 17.00 til midnight during the week. Anywhere between noon and 2 AM on the weekend. Intensity: High - Always up for roleplay and keen to weave a story. I prefer it over most other activities.
  16. Hey, another EU player, welcome back! I sadly can't offer any FC's myself, though I'd be happy to hang out with you or your character regardless. I'm keeping my eye on Maril's list linked above as well for when I hit 50 and have somewhat of a clue on what I'm doing in this game. Welcome back once more!
  17. And I'm learning already. Though, considering A'riali is supposed to have been adopted by a non Miqo'te family, I think I will keep the surname, as it's supposed to be the surname of her adoptive parents, rather then her biological ones. (Hence, subject to change!) Also, thank you all for the welcomes! I am very interested in forming connections with anyone who is up for it! If you'd like, please get in touch with me in game on A'riali Soro, or I'l try to grab you when I see you online. RE: Skae - Yes, I definitely think they would've been childhood friends, if one is a woodworker and one an archer I can even imagine they do business to this day! I would like that I think, and will try to be in touch!
  18. Hey, another new (or is it old?) player! Welcome back to the game! Your character sounds very interesting, certainly I would not mind meeting her, so I wouldn't worry on that front. I hope you enjoy the game once more!
  19. Hello, everyone! I'm a European roleplayer (UTC+2), I've only just started playing FFXIV, and in an effort to kickstart my character's story, I am looking for people who would like to join me, be that as friends, professional connections, childhood rivals or even family! The last one is going to take a little explaining. So! I play a young female Miqo'te called A'riali Soro (The surname is subject to change, naturally). She's about 20-21 years of age, and lives in Gridania with her foster family. She's a natural talent with the bow, and so mostly helps the realm by hunting the various animals of the forest, be it for food or population control. Now restless, she has begun traveling to see more of the world while she's still in her prime. I'm hoping such a concept will let me learn of the world while she does, since I'm not quite familiar with the lore of Eorzea yet. The fun part for me is that such a character can pretty much grow into anything. So what I'm looking for, really, is people who might like to interact with her in some way! Friendly people with whom I can slowly learn the ropes. This can be new friends, childhood friends, archery rivals, the medic that kept needing to patch her up, an older veteran who really doesn't want to see a naive adventuring youth throw her life away...Ex-boyfriends..Really, I am open to anything. In addition to that, I am looking for something in particular: Miqo'te who might be willing to play as her biological family. As I said before, A'riali was orphaned at youth and taken in by another family. This leaves a giant mystery to be solved, and I think it would be far more interesting to have her original parents be actual players, if that option is there! I understand it's a bit of a long shot, as such a character would need to be much older then Ari's 20 years. It would be great to have such people out in the world that you can potentially run into someday, though, certainly more so then NPC's. EDIT: Due to positive experiences, I am now also looking for players willing to play A'riali's adoptive brother, sister, or even mother or father! I'd decided she grew up amongst Elezen, but I am open to changing that if an interested party steps forward! It wouldn't be very hard at all to do. Therefore, if your character is Gridanian and seeking an adoptive relative, please get in touch so we can discuss it! EDIT END Lastly, I am also looking for an RP Free Company to join! Preferably one that holds events and roleplay at times suitable to Europeans as well. Also curious about linkshells! Here is a picture so you can see what she looks like. And...That's it, I think! Thank you for reading all of this, and I hope to see you around Eorzea!
  20. Hello again, and thank you all for the wonderful feedback! So we're a few weeks further now, and partly thanks to the feedback I got here, and partly thanks to a heck of a friend, I went ahead and made a character and transferred her over to Balmung. FFXIV turned out to be a very big game, and it took me some time to learn the basics. I'm having a lot of fun with it, though. Her name is A'riali Soro, and I'm hoping to play her as a kind of orphaned Miqo'te hunter. Young, simple roots, Gridanian. I'm hoping that with a character that is about as ignorant of wider Eorzea as I am, I can learn as she learns and eventually find my place. I want to thank everyone here who took the time to give some feedback! Kiliet, thank you especially, that tumblr link was a godsend and I'l try to attend each of the listed events and see how that goes. Will also try and get an invite for the Linkshell. I hope to see you around the gameworld someday, and if anyone has any further feedback or tips, it's more then welcome!
  21. Hello, everyone! Please bear with me, as I know very little about FFXIV. I've played a multitude of MMO's over teh past ten years and have become a very avid roleplayer in those years. I'm now looking for a new MMO to put down my feet in and hopefully join an RP community! I play on the EU continent, timezone GMT+1. I've tried looking around this website, and cant seem to find more then one EU FC. I am wondering if there are any EU guilds/communities around that a new player could join? Do they exist? Does anyone have any tips where I could go or who I could join as a new player? What options are there for an EU roleplayer to get into the RP scene? Thanks in advance for any feedback!
