  1. I wanna do it, but Faye brings up a good point, try to make it as Icly (AND OOCLY) unbiased as possible. These things do tend to turn into popularity contests based on how popular someone is oocly.
  2. There's really no lore saying this isn't possible, and considering that Ishguard only closed it's doors 20 years ago, it's absolutely possible Miqote immigrated there - since we all know Miqote just didn't show up 20 years ago. I say roll with it. It's one of those grey areas but, as Sounssy pointed out, there is evidence to support it so we can deduce it's probably fine.
  3. Huh really? I actually get hit on way more as my Highlander female than I do my midlander
  4. There's a theory running around out there that Raise actually only works on the Chosen of Hydaelyn, hence why other adventures just seem to die horrible deaths... I think it came from the Youtube guy known for doing lore videos but I can't remember the exact source.... so it may cause some contention? When I saw it it was an interesting theory and came to very interesting conclusions using lore. That's probably where the contention comes from.
  5. No. Armi doesn't really get crushes. It takes her far too long to figure out she even likes someone... sometimes she never figures it out at all and just goes about her business. So by that time the feeling has passed or she ends up dating them because they admitted their feelings first. Tough nut to crack, that one.
  6. That TOOK FOREVER. It was fanfest all over again. Got one CE after about an hour and a half of trying. Generally me and Ellion always try for two, but I don't like CE's that have Statue's so he's going to get the physical and I'm just getting Digital. Later. I'll get Digital Later T_T
  7. ^ [video=youtube] I lore bend to hell and back, but it's always discussed with a counsel of peers as to whether or not its even probable. We are never going to know everything, obviously.
  8. This is me. To me, this is a discussion, nothing more.
  9. When the lore team says "There's only one WHM." That's not really interpretation. They flat out said it, so I'm going by their word. Yeah they said their are other ways, but didn't say what or that anyone had even tried to use them. According to Word of God, there's one. The WoL went (or the Lalafell place holder if your WoL went another job) . So unless the WHMs Players want to fight it out who that WHM is, I'll just rp that there is just one WHM NPC somewhere over here in the corner. And that's what I choose to follow. When they open it up, I'll change my mind. It's not really outrageous.
  10. I don't know man, I've been pretty civil here and in pasts threads, with the only caveat being "I just won't roleplay with you." - I've stated that I'm excited to see how they open up WHM - I've stated I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone and they can rp how they wish - I've stated I'm not even trying to actively change anyone's mind - but then I also stated that just as they can choose how they can roleplay I can choose my reaction to that (Which is to not really engage too deeply with a WHM RPer). Can it be done? Certainly. Sounssy figured out for a player to be a WHM completely within lore and I even applauded the effort. Do most people go through that effort? No. (I SAID MOST before you jump in.) This reminds me of the penn and teller "Being offended" skit: [video=youtube] Which pretty much sums up my opinion. "If your offended, get away from it. But there's no need to ban it."
  11. Not really. We're just talking in this thread about WHMs and their relation to lore and how I respond to them. You won't see me talk about this stuff outside these kinds of threads or even in game with a bunch of people I'm not friends with. This is a discussion forum. It's kind of what we do here. I find it strange everyone thinks there's some underlying manipulation trying to happen here.
  12. Nothing. The WHM probably already have friends they rp with who don't care they're a WHM ICly
  13. So... you want me to lie and say I'm okay with it because I may make someone who plays a WHM feel bad? Because I'm not. I believe in following lore, and I believe that bending lore should be realistic, to which I believe being a WHM is not (Especially when confirmed by the devs there's only one, which people just seem to be ignoring completely). I'm OKAY with people running around being WHMs if they want, but it's absolutely my choice not to acknowledge that they are or, if they constantly remind everyone they are a WHM, ignore them completely. I hardly think I'm being a dick about this, unless being a dick means "I disagree with that." It's not elitist at all to want to follow lore closely. I have no idea why people throw that word around because I disagree with something. I don't think I'm better than anyone else, that's just the kind of roleplay I - and the people I rp with - like. All of us agreed to follow lore as closely as possible. It's what we enjoy. That's all.
  14. Quoted from the Fanfest lore panel. They haven't told us what those are yet, nor if anyone has ever been successful (Which I'm assuming not because they said there's only one WHM). Until they do that's moot because people can just invent a bunch of stuff and be completely wrong. Just like we know Blue Mage is a FF class but we have no idea if it will ever appear in FFXIV. So some people don't think you should play it at all because you'll get the lore wrong, but people were trying anyway.. only later to learn that the devs said BLU probably won't even be IN THE GAME
  15. I agree, and the inverse of this is what I've never understood. Why -must- you have the title if having it means all sorts of lore diceyness? I look at it like this; you wouldn't try to break the lore and game rules at a tabletop session, so why here? The lore sets a consistency for all interactions, otherwise we might as well play Second Life. Just because you interpret it as 'dicey' doesn't mean others do. This isn't D&D with set list of rules, either, there's a lot up to player speculation here, never mind a number of game mechanics that some people ignore while the rest don't. it has nothing to do with a petty title or power, either, but what a path like White Mage means. It is an important aspect of my character's personality and history, tying directly in with her racial lore, as well (wise, witchy moon cats, etc.). You or anyone else doesn't have to like it, but I and others have done nothing wrong by going with IC jobs for good reason, simple as that. Except it's not interpretation, the Devs literally said only one person is a WHM. you're running around saying it's YOUR character. Yeah you can do that, but don't expect for everyone to agree to rp with you because of it.
  16. Unless the FC lead is a weird power hungry maniac, there's generally always a "council" with one person taking the head. My guild has 7 officers for instance. I actually did run the Night Blades by myself for a few months in FFXIV, it was the worst experience of my life. I was on 17 hours a day, only not on to sleep. I have no idea how anyone would run an FC alone.
  17. So, this following question is not only aimed at Verad, but anyone who also shares this opinion. I ask because this legitimately concerns me. How does one truly run an FC where the OOC leader's character is not the IC leader? Or, where the IC leading character has no OOC authority? Maybe I misunderstood here, but I am thinking about this, and I can't see an answer. For example, if I am an OOC leader, and Kiht is not IC leader, I will still have to closely coordinate and manage with whoever is the IC leader. This will give the person who plays the IC leader a sort of position of authority on an OOC level as well. How can the two be separated in a way that make the FC still function? How my FC is currently run is Kiht and Khloe co-lead the FC together. But we are also co-leaders on an OOC level. In the instance we ever dead-lock on a decision, we would bring in a senior member as a tie-breaker, or call for an FC vote. It has worked well so far, but the FC is just over two months old, and still small. When I ran the Night Blades, my character was in no position of authority. Armi just isn't very authoritative in character, so she was a regular grunt (PR), however my fiance was the IC Leader. You're right, you basically have to communicate very closely with your IC leader to make sure everything is being run correctly.I wouldn't give it too a stranger, but someone who's a friend who's character is more suited for the position. IC officers generally weren't OOC officers because people who played authoritative characters icly may not be very good at actually officership oocly and visa versa. In our FC - those are two different roles. However, things have kind of lined up lately and Ellion recently took over the guild oocly - meaning he's the head ic and ooc and a few of our officers are ICly also officers. This is actually a coincidence. HOWEVER, I don't really see an issue with the FC leader oocly being the leader ICly. It works a lot of time, don't know why people have an issue with it.
  18. I think for plot purposes, "Fought and Killed" an Ascian would be impossible. The MSQ deals with trying to kill an Ascian so much that it pretty much beats into your head how hard it would be. And that regular non-fantastical plot armor characters couldn't do it. If an Ascian plot was done, it would be more in his observer roll (Like... the Observers from Fringe) The Ascian has a long con going on that mortals would never understand and they need to shift things a certain way in order to facilitate this plan. IN THAT respect - an Ascian could very well be interested in a Sultansworn - because he needs him to do something that won't have consequences till much later or tricks him into a bargain that will benefit the Ascians down the road (Like when the Ascians taught the beastmen to summon Primals using Crystals or helping Gaius at all). I don't think Ascians have any interest in mortals unless they need them for something we just don't know about. Which I think could work as a plot point if spun correctly. As a PC though, that's too much power for one person to hold. So Ascians have "thralls"? I thought that Ascians weren't even known about by the general populace?
  19. Okay thinking on it this is what I wouldn't like: Required Voice Chat: I actually loath getting on mumble/Teamspeak when we aren't doing anything. Like... why am I there? I want to play my music or watch my TV. Back in Aion, I actually did join another FC and required voice chat. I hated that I had to be in there Every. Single. Day. I love people getting on voice and being unafraid to USE voice during PvE - it's so much easier to do mechanics and call out things in voice chat - but other than that? Not so much. In my FC, I'll pop in every now and again, but I'm not really in Mumble all the time nor do I really want to be. No Story Direction: I am not one for just doing Social RP. Going to bars and talking about your life story has it's place, but after a few months I get really really bored with just pretending to be a social butterfly (Or just starting fights if my character isn't very nice). I call it Soap Opera RP - mostly social drama. Which is fine, but not all the time. I'm used to Table Top RP - where there's always a dragon to kill or some princess to save, and that's what I enjoy. An overarching plotline. I like big stories. Garleans, and Voidsent, and Dangerous happens, and unexplored ruins, Necromancy going wrong, bombs! Too much "We're going to the bar again" and I think I would be turned off, However on the flip side: Too Scripted: If an FC likes to run their RP like it's a PLAY - planning everything out (Beginning, Middle, and End) meticulously with no wiggle room that's really, really boring. When I first got into WoW and I wasn't sure I was going to be playing full time, I got into an RP guild to have a look around. The lead of the FC told me what my character was and exactly what I was doing there, and any plot points were already planned. I was pretty floored. I didn't realize this was thing. All plots were scripted ahead of time, with his friends being the heros and anyone else in the guild taking a back seat. No, if you want to write a scripted scenario - write a book. You'll be better for it. Doesn't Follow Lore: Obviously. Has too many people who are overly powerful: I understand the want to play a super powerful character, I do, I'm just not looking for that myself. Doesn't Raid: I need both RP and Endgame in my game life, I'd get bored of both if I did one too much. I actually consider myself medium rp/mediums progression. This can be waved if games have a way to facilitate outside guild statics (FFXIV has LS's for example) No Forum/Dead Forum: I actually love going to websites and posting! I'm really social, and it's a good way to be active when you aren't on the game. Too Big: I like around 40-50 people... I think over 100 active would be too many... Too Social - I actually don't mind a little down time in my game life. Sometimes I want to get on the game and not speak, so I actually don't mind if I get on and there's only 2 or 3 people on... or if there's a lull in FC chat. I like quiet as much as noise, though too much quiet is bad - I also find too much noise overwhelming. My FC actually is really really active (especially in the OOC LS we have so people from other guilds can see it) and while I'm social, I find it overwhelming at times and there are days when I just want to chill out and farm toadskins, man. Disclaimer: This is my own personal preference and really has nothing to do with how my FC is ran.
  20. I knew this one! Sounssy got to it first though I really wish you could favorite posts on this forum to keep forever and ever because Sounssy's answers are always boss.
  21. Right, the lore we've looked into shows the Top 12, but also there's a bottom wrung of other Ascians that aren't in that group, as seen by different cutscenes. So it's possible to have a lower ranked Ascian running around causing his own havok though honestly, playing one as your PC full time would seem... Power gamey? They are nigh unkillable and can cast powerful magic. A regular Joe Blow would be trampled by one pretty quickly. There isn't a lot of lore on the Ascians, which is a shame because they seem interesting.
  22. Touching on the mention of the Echo in this post. Can this be confirmed with a link to the Dev's words? While I was under the impression that the Echo was very rare, I didn't believe that there was just a single sole person gifted with it either. So I'd like to see some actual backing to that claims. Cheers. I'm pretty sure that the Echo isn't WoL - main character only. It's just that there is only ONE warrior of light. The idea in an mmo is that THE player (YOU!) is the ONE main Warrior of Light. But this does not completely work out RP-wise. There's no direct post of it but you can find the words in Fanfest Vegas Lore Panel. Some did live reactions/transcribing. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=8695&pid=117271#pid117271 Right, what I meant by that was he has ALL of those things and is the only one to have all and have done all of those things. The Echo is not restricted to the WoL, neither is Hydalean's Chosen.
  23. I interpreted that to mean it was seeing a revival among the Padjal - those chosen to access the Succor - and not the Padjal running around teaching everyone. You're going to run into people who won't really like WHMs running around without any lore to back up that it's possible (This is me -- considering assuming there are other avenues is a huge leap considering something sentient and ANGRY at mortals guards the gates of even becoming a WHM. The Elementals have to say yes, because they control who can and cannot access the Succor. If someone tried without their permission, well they'd probably cut them off immediately afterwards permanently) and others who do not care so much. Tiergan is right, you can rp however you like. I, however, strongly disagree with the players ability to be WHMs until the devs open up new avenues.
