ArmachiA replied to Avalt Laguz's topic in FFXIV Discussion
oh my God, they took the Batman thing and ran with it. So like.. Vigilante Final Fantasy Judges? I really like the Dark Knight lore. -
Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations
ArmachiA replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
While I like plausibility in my roleplay and I, of course, like to be lore compliant, honestly if it's within the bounds of lore and well explained I probably won't mind. Here's the thing for me: "I'm a Miqote Dragoon because " I won't even bat an eye. "I'm a Miqote Dragoon for just... uhh... cuz." Will make me dubious of your character but will still not make me not roleplay with you. I like plausibility for ME personally - my characters are deeply rooted in what could and could not be possible, taking rather ordinary, average characters and thrusting them into the extraordinary. That's really fun and interesting -for me-. I don't expect that to be fun and interesting for all people. As long as you aren't lore breaking, and have a well thought out character, the only thing that's going to matter to me is if your Miqote Dragoon is actually just... interesting to talk to. And that's my take on it. -
Armi Alliando. Was a Priestess since she was 10 and doesn't really understand how most society works. Never had many friends so she started giving names and personalities to her plants. Does not understand most innuendo or jokes. Armi is a bit strange and a bit shy (Though in the 2 years I've spent playing her she's become less shy) and tends to be pessimistic about herself but optimistic about the future in general. Armi is a very genuine person, an easily excited person, and naturally a very kind one, which makes her the least intimidating person on the planet (That and her penchant for talking to inanimate objects). BUT She's fairly good with a bow - incredible aim despite a slower draw speed - and excellent with music. Lately, she's managed to get over some of her fear of crowds and play her guitar in small tea shops and bars, though if anyone comes up to her after a set she's likely to run away... politely. Her ultimate goal is to get over herself and be less "Armi"... but slowly she's starting to realize there's nothing wrong with being "Armi" at all.

How does your RL reflect into your character?
ArmachiA replied to Branson Thorne's topic in RP Discussion
I honestly think it's impossible to make a character completely opposite of you. Not because someone couldn't play one but EVENTUALLY a well rounded, three dimensional character is going to end up sharing a similarity somehow. It's inevitable. Just like real life, you stick around someone long enough you'll eventually find something the two of you agree on. -
The Screenshot Thread [Tag Your Spoilers]
ArmachiA replied to Zyrusticae's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I don't post screenshots and I should, so gonna try to do that more: Two guildies decided to have an OOC Princess Bride themed wedding, I went as the albino: Ellion even gave the sermon like in the movie. "MAWWAGE!" This is OOC even if the characters are dating, but we did our wedding quest during Odin and I really like this photo. Maybe in the future.... maybe. If Armi doesn't run off somewhere as she's wont to do. -
Absolutely. I'm one of those people who has like a bajillion walls built up and, while I'm friendly it's always still with keeping people at a distance. I'm a pretty private person in that way. I don't really send tells to people, I'm not good at speaking to people one on one. Most of my interaction - which many people in my FC will tell you - with 95% of the people will be in a public space where everyone else can see it. If I send you a tell, it's mostly for business (I help run the fc after all) most of my conversations are lore/characters questions in private while most of my public interactions are me shipping all the things There are very few, and I can count them on one hand, who have penetrated the wall. And while I'm really good at shrugging off most bad things that happened with an "LOL oh well" attitude, those who get behind the wall can DEVASTATE ME. Thoroughly and utterly. They have done it before, they've done it in this game, and it will probably happen again. That's how it goes when you deal with people. I'm of a mind that if anything is worth saving, it's worth trying to save and great things don't come easy. I will try to fix something I deem worth it until I am 120% sure there is absolutely no way to fix it. I will do EVERYTHING I have to. Then, if it's clear its not going to be fixed, I'll quietly let it go. I'll quietly let them go. You'll never really hear me talk badly about the people who hurt me so badly. You'll barely ever hear me talk about them at all. If they want to walk away, I let them, and make it easier for them to do so. But not until after I kicked and screamed to try to fix it

^ Imma kill you. You're gonna cry when that second raid team gets back up because YOU AREN'T IN IT. The NB works like a lot of other FCs do, though, when there isn't a huge storyline going on you'll usually see us more out and about, when there is - we tend to focus inward. Then when it's over we head back out into the world again with stories and tales of our grand adventures. Mercurias is right, we just let in about 10-12 people this month and have been working with them to get them involved while at the same time running a HUGE plot that requires the constant attention of the 2 main Storytellers and the 4-5 helper bees. It's so large when it's over I may pass out for a week. I knew it was going to be a lot of work, since it's the climax of 2 years of story, but it is pretty exhausting. Are we active? Extremely. We're so active if we go a week without an event on the calendar people start asking me if something is wrong. And I don't doubt others are as well. But any kind of plot... it's just safer to do within the boundaries of your FC. We've been extremely lucky as a guild - we've been around since launch and have never had a lack of activity (Except in December. We're always so dead in December) and I'm grateful every single day we've been able to make it this long. That being said, when I run around I see a TON of active RP FCs around. Like, a lot. I'm actually rather surprised Balmung is thriving as much as it is RP wise.
-
Monthly check in. We're in the climax of a two year storyline and I... have no time to do anything else *flails around*
-
So that means I can invite Foamy to the FC after all, Armi? We have someone named Scruffy The'Janitor. Do what you do. Someone said Idols! *Gets kicked out before she talks about Morning Musume*

How does your RL reflect into your character?
ArmachiA replied to Branson Thorne's topic in RP Discussion
I think some of Armi's core beliefs are the same, but we're not really that much alike is most aspects. IC: Shy, kind of introverted. Doesn't like being in large groups. Better one on one or in small groups. OOC: Extroverted, friendly, not afraid of people, better in large groups than one on one. IC: Has entire personalities for her plants and loves romance novels. Likes to Garden, likes to make tea. Collects stuffed animals. Favorite color is White. OOC: Yeah none of the above. Armi is way cuter than me. I'm kind of gothy. Favorite colors are Red and Black. IC: Kind of passive. Not really much of a fighter. Has no temper to speak of. OOC: I am brash and loud, and I will fight you if necessary. While 90% of the time I don't have a temper - I tend to speak very neutral - 10% of the time I will be on your ass. IC: Not even a little snarky. OOC: Do you know how hard it is for a snarky player to play a non-snarky character? I deserve a medal. IC: Not a jealous person. OOC: Not a jealous person. This is actually an intentional decision I make with all my characters because I honestly believe I would play a jealous character WRONG and make them a little too possessive. Since I'm not a jealous person myself, I honestly have no frame of reference and feel like I would make it more of a parody of people less open then me and it could turn insulting. IC: Bit of a broken bird. OOC: I'm long past the Broken Bird part of my life. Was able to come to some semblance of sanity years ago. IC: Immature for her age. OOC: Immature for her age . I still think I'm 25. -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
ArmachiA replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I did Steps of Faith once in DF with a friend on mine and it went really bad, so after that I gathered a bunch of guildies and we one shotted it. Then I dragged other people in who needed it with said guildies. No one should have to suffer bad SoF. When it's good, it's SO FUN, but when it's bad it just a frustrating experience all around. -
I admit I roll my eyes just slightly whenever I see yet another Japanese name, but that's my own personal bias from being in the Jpop fandom for so long and having to defend that DOESN'T make you a Weeaboo you just like the music GOD. But it's only a slight eyeroll. Hell, Armi's current beau's name is vaguely Japanese. No name is going to make me not RP with you, no matter how lore inappropriate, unless it's like SUPER offensive or something. It will make me PAUSE, sure, but if you're eager to RP and aren't being a troll, I'll get over it. I mean, Armi's name could be considered iffy itself in some circles (And Loki's - even if it's not her real name - DEFINITELY is.) It's your actions, not your name.
-
She's named already because I've used the name before Like Armi, I use the name a lot.
-
I don't see why you have to play a brooding, emo Dark Knight either. It's dark magics, probably dark aether, not really dark character. Be a chipper Dark Knight if you want too! I've actually considered it for my Au Ra Langli - who is SUPER upbeat (Read: Annoying) and her brother will be a DRK icly - just for the funsies. But, Langli has always been a monk in every game I've put her in and it would be hard to part with. She'd basically be like Rikku with a giant sword... IT'S SO TEMPTING. Need to see the lore on it though.

Every XIV roleplayer really needs to know about Ethys Asher.

Why do people RP around the MSQ? [Post 2.55 Spoilers]
ArmachiA replied to Magellan's topic in RP Discussion
Basically if it looks like something it going to have a wide sweeping impact on the world around you in the MSQ, it's probably wise to evaluate how it effect your character. I.E. The Calamity - none of the 1.0 roleplayers knew about it and had to make MAJOR adjustments to their characters because it had such a wide reaching scope. Every single corner of Eorzea was effected, it was impossible to pretend it didn't happen at all. It's really easy to take a step back and go "Okay so this looks like it will have wide reaching consequences , does that effect my character at all? If yes, how?" Then play accordingly. On time, My FC generally regards each event as happening right before a patch. So, for example, the events of 2.3 will be put in during patch 2.4 (If applicable) in order to lesson spoilers and give people ample time to prepare. In 2.55 we plan on having Ellion (The IC leader) make a call to go help with the Steps of Faith (Since it actually says Free Company's went) but won't be doing that till about a week or two before 3.0 comes out. Time is always iffy from group to group, so it's best to generally keep timelines hazy when rping in the open world. Haven't had an issue with it yet, really. -
I don't intentionally base them off of anyone, but they do share roots with some people. Armi Winnifred "Fred" Burkle from Angel Rapunzel from Tangled Eri Kamei (Herself, Ex-Morning Musume member) Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter Jessica Day from New Girl Hanayo Koizumi from Love Live Loki Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop Jo Lupo from Eureka Zoe from Firefly Selina Kyle (Catwoman) From the Batman Series.

My guild has been actually considering doing a Murder Mystery night for the server for awhile now, but as it turns out, thinking of running a large scale event like that (Which is usually like, 10 people tops IRL) is extremely difficult. I've thought about driving up to the Stanley Hotel (About 30 minutes from me) and asking how they do it, since they put on a huge Murder Mystery Party every Halloween. Then, once you get the logistics of guests down, you gotta write the thing, get people to play the parts, figure out a way to toss around clues. It's definitely a lot harder than "Tavern Night" or "Date Auction." for what could be far less gain (Kind of niche, maybe people won't even show up!) You fall back on the things you know bring people and are easy to plan because... it brings people and is easy to plan. Date Auctions are ridiculously popular - Hell the Night Blades threw one just for us in order to raise money for Airships (We didn't think it was fair to take outsiders money for that) - and raised 3 million in a night. It's ridiculously profitable and it's EASY to set up. The temptation is obviously going to be there to use that as a resource.

The Second Annual Royal Ball of Ul'dah - Update (Time Set)

S...poilers...? -
oh God, I pledged yesterday and it just went through yesterday. I have the worst timing. Sorry Freelance ; ; I didn't remember to do it till I saw the fancy names.
-
It is unfortunately common among Roleplayers that drama is inevitable and the people you started RPing with, one or two is likely to cause problems with you OOCly and you won't be rping with them forever. I honestly think everyone who RPs has been in this situation before. There's no real way to avoid it unless you stop rping all together. It's a sad truth. I've lost some really good friends this way.
-
I just pledged today, not sure when it will go through.

Don't retcon if you can get away with it. It's messy and complicated - especially the longer you've rped with someone. The best thing to do is find a reason ICly to cut ties and use it as part of your characters past. Though it seems kind of annoying now, looking back you'll be happier you didn't touch any of the organic stuff that did happen. First, have you tried talking to them? I mean, really talking. "I don't like your behavior OOC so we need to talk about it or I can't RP with you anymore." type stuff? If you haven't, then DO SO. People don't have conversations they need to have (That could honestly fix EVERYTHING) because they're afraid of upsetting someone, but it's okay if they get upset. They're going to be upset, you're accusing them of something and they are going to see you taking away rp as punishment for the accusation. That's fine. Let them get upset because eventually - if they actually WANT to fix something - they will calm down and you can talk about it. It's better that they know then if you're just leaving them high and dry with no explanation. Try to fix it first. And hey if they go "Well eff you buddy!" and never calm down, then you know they weren't really worth it in the first place. These talks can be very long or very short - it really depends on the nature of the person. Take all the time you need to take. Second, have you tried talking to them but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere? They dismiss you, call you crazy, laugh or whatever? If you and your friend have talked to these people and it's doing nothing, then it's perfectly okay to cut ties. It's only more stress for you to TRY and if they dismiss your concerns or just aren't listening or making any effort to try - then they are really only doing it to themselves. In public? Generally, regardless of where I am in RP, I try to be civil to everyone. If I run into someone I've had drama with in the past out rping, I'll still rp with them because Armi isn't really me and try not to ooc bleed at all. It's generally been fine since both of us are adults and can act like adults. HOWEVER, if they aren't acting like an adult and harassing you OOC, just blacklist them and ignore them. That isn't cool and is taking it a step too far. You are under no obligation to treat them as a rational human being if they refuse to act like one.
