Five Geek Social Fallacies: How They Effect RP
ArmachiA replied to Sarantali's topic in RP Discussion
There's nothing inherentaly wrong with being a bit clique-y at the end of the day, I just hate that people throw it around as being negative. For example: We've kind of allied ourselves with a Heavy RP shell that many of those in my group wouldn't really fit in with. This isn't to say we wouldn't get along with them (We do) but our RP values are VERY different. They believe in High Immersion, IC most of the time chat; we believe in OOC most of the time, medium immersion chat. Our guilds are very different, and was founded on completely different belief systems. Trying to bring the two together in the same guild would be disastrous. It just wouldn't work. Our IC guilds probably won't work either. They are a much nicer organization than us, we're one after power "by any means." I can see a lot of problems should we ever meet ICly. And that's IF we ever meet ICly, cuz it's quite possible we may not, neither side if forcing the issue of us HAVING to RP with each other. And that's fine! Here's the thing: We're are actually quite friendly OOC. I talk to them quite often, and we have plans to take them with us when we do endgame. This is where the clique's end and where they should end. At the end of the day, we have our own corners, but we're nice to each other and understand each other! We don't need to be 100% inclusive to be nice to each other and it doesn't even seem clique-y. I think at the end of the day, sometimes people are trying so hard to be inclusive they are hurting themselves, but at the same time their is no reason to be nice to other groups. Clique's are only bad when people begin to see themselves as better than anyone else around them. -
Open Beta & Early Access, Live Letter 8 Discussion

I'm getting both Armi and Loki to 20 and their sub classes for their jobs to 15. I think I can probably squeeze out Daej and Ash too, since I won't be roleplaying at all during Beta 4 (I need to race change my characters before I can do that , the only exception is the Ball event, where I'll just be rolling a copy of either Armi or Loki and going to that) -
I'm playing a character who sings. What I'm doing it writing some song in Real life and just kind of using those in my RP or whatever. But how I'm doing it is pretty weird - I'm re-writing Japanese acoustic songs into English, recording them, mixing them, then throwing them in places where I won't be embarrassed to display them. Basically Armi's player is her singing voice. If in game, I decided I'll just reference those songs to my guild or whatever, or just "sing" them outside of it It's fun, but kind of scary Here's one of my creations (Lyrics by me, original song by Maaya Sakamoto) [video=youtube] *runs off*

That's what it's looking like. We were kind of freaking out about that little detail but LUCKILY Ellion got his Marauder to 26 in 1.0 before quitting forever, so we have a way around it (He'll make it, then pass leadership to me). Sucks though. -

They just announced paid server transfers will be available 2-3 WEEKS after launch, they did not say Legacy were exempt from this. -

I'm happy the highlander isn't out. He's hot. What?

I'm answering this Roleplay wise only, as my stance differs a bit when talking about endgame. 1. What do you think is a main character? The character you spend the most time on. It is absolutely possible for people who have a lot of time on their hands (Me) to spend the same amount of time on 2 or more characters. As I don't work, you'll see me on Armi and Loki pretty equally, so I consider them both my mains. 2. What do you think makes a character an alternate character? Any character you don't spend a lot of time on OR a character who's entire character is meant to be used sparingly as more of a plot device. 3. Do people have a responsibility to make certain "mains pair with mains" if you sense an interesting relationship (friends/rivals/lovers/enemies/long-lost relatives) forming or is it okay that someone's just not going to be around at random or for long periods of time? Generally, if my alt gets into a relationship - romantic or otherwise - I will start playing them more to be fair to the other person. An example I'll use is Aion. My main was Armi and, using romance as my example, Armi was in two relationships over her life there - one with a character named Siben and one with one named Lloire. Siben and Armi eventually fizzled out and the two remained friends, but for awhile it was "awkward" for Armi to be around him, because she was starting to have feelings for Lloire. SO to settle that, I started RPing with him with my alt - Tris. Tris had a backstory, but she was played so off the cuff I didn't even settle on a last name for her (She was a noble, so she had one for those who played the game ). As it turned out, Siben and Tris had quite the spark! I started playing Tris more in RP to round that story out and it worked very well. Armi was still doing her thing, but Tris was now coming out more often. We quit the game, but we eventually decided that Tris and Siben got married and lived happily ever after. I also have a few examples of a non-romantic variety. I think that if your alt gets involved in a story, you do have a certain obligation to see that through. 4. Have you ever discovered that your main was paired off in one of those situations with someone's alt? They just didn't play them at all or played other characters? Did it stall out your story? What did you do? Yes! Lloire was actually an alt of a guy in our guild, his main being Arakiel. Arakiel and Armi didn't have any connection to each other at all, even though we were in the same guild, surprisingly. Arakiel did what I said above, he got on Lloire more to see how the story played out. Spoiler Alert: Armi and Lloire eventually parted ways (Armi can't be happy, it's like a rule I have) and he played him a bit less to refocus back on his main. It worked out fine, he just switched the two out in certain conditions. I have been "paired" (Not romantically) with people who have quit and THAT was harder than dealing with someone's alt. 5. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who only have one main character? That they can play the character super well because they are only concentrating on one. 6. What's the biggest stereotype you think of when you think of people who suffer alt-itis and swap characters often? That they can't play any characters well enough or be on enough to do it, without knowing any other information. I have played 4 characters at once before and it worked out fine, no one even realized these characters were ALTs. 7. Which are you? A single or two main characters? 5 main characters? A bunch of alts? I have 2 mains, 2 part times (My males, as I like to play men as well as women), and the rest are alts. 8. How did you usually break up your time between your main characters? Play on demand? Always on one, demand for the other? One with one group and when they all sign off switch to the other? Roleplaying wise, I play who I feel like playing if their isn't a story line going on. If we're just going to Tavern RP for the day, I'll pick who I feel like playing. Some days if we're going to a bar I'll want to play Loki, some days Armi, and some days Daej. If there is a storyline going on I look at two things. Do my guildies need a character to help facilitate their story? Then I'll probably hop on an alt to help them. If I'm in the middle of a story where one of my characters need to be there, then I'll just hop on. You'll see me on my mains the most, but sometimes I need a break from playing Ms. UberSnark and her sidekick Positive-o Girl. Plus, like I said before, I really enjoy playing males as well as females and my male characters get a lot of play (Though they are not my mains... except in TERA... but that was accidental)

Server guidance for those new to the community
ArmachiA replied to Miss Marigold's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I like the new edit. I say yes to making sure people know that Balmung is for non-legacy too because a forum I go to just found out about the RPC server things a few days ago and thought that Balmung was for Legacy only and Gilgamesh was for new people. And I was like "Well, there seems to be some confusion here..." and that may be on other forums as well -

Alright, I'll bite: Loki - Armi -

^ ^ Me too. I was in the test since Alpha and every new phase I got a character to 25

Level 17! *Flex*

This is actually an interesting question and I am pretty sure Gilgamesh will have a higher population because of all the big servers that are going there, the Redditors probably outnumber the entire RPC, haha. But there will still be a higher RP ratio there. On another note, when I was transferring my character from Masamune to Balmung (just to have the character as an alt as I liked the way they looked) the server transfer application indicated that the server population was Very High. I am not sure if this just means that they were only taking in a certain amount of character transfer to leave some open room for new players or what. But seeing as the game is relaunched and lots of people will be coming back to check out the game or play it, I would not be worried much about this. XIVpads has Balmung listed as the server with the most characters registered (6000+), so Balmung is considered one of the most populated, if not the most populated, server right now.

I'm new, don't let my join date fool you. I quit FFXIV shortly after it's release and vowed never to touch it again. But here I am. My old 1.0 characters are very low level.. the highest is 17, so ditching them wasn't even going to be an issue for me. The reason my guild decided to go back to Balmung was this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/35736-Balmung-thank-you http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/6360-Balmung-Where-You-At and then stuff like this confirmed it http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/78074-Balmung-Welcomes-You%21-New-and-returning-players. These are on the Beta forums and they are EXTREMELY welcoming and positive and the last one even list RPers as a good thing to have on the server. Let's take a look at Gilgamesh's thread shall we? http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/94373-Experience-the-Epic-of-Gilgamesh-the-fresh-perky-new-RP-server. It's a lot more negative. THat's it. It just seems like Balmung want us there and Gilgamesh does not. I had chosen Balmung as our go to server long before Gilgamesh was an issue, but Gilgamesh's growing pains make me cringe internally. Especially with how crowded it's going to be (NEOgaf, GameFAQs, and Blue Gartr are all apparently rolling there as well. Oh, and we're a guild who does endgame and RPs, just to clear up that misconception. We were once top 20 in WoW on our server. We love endgame, endgame is fun. ~~~~ But just to stake something that should probably be obvious: Thats why I, ME, not you, chose Balmung and I do not expect anyone else to follow my lead (Unless they are my guild, muhaha). I have been on the Gilgamesh-ers side this whole time, even when I bring up concerns I'm still on their side. They may see it as an attack, but at the end of the day I just want them to succeed. Does it suck that they want to go off to another server? Yes. But it happens. On TOR, the RPers were split and ended up going to Lord Addraas and Ebon Hawke (Eventually they merged) and at the end of the day, it didn't matter. We all played in our own little corner and it was fine (The big difference being, of course, that both of those are designated rp servers so both their populations were bigger, but that's neither here nor there). It will be fine here as well. The only thing that bugs me is the animosity that has happened. But that is another discussion

^ Indeed there is Denn! A LOT of my guildies love to PvP, you'll see the NB there a lot
-
There is no competition. Server Balthier has already won all you over. Baltheir Server. The star of this show.
-
It does suck when there is a split, but ultimately people gotta do what they think is best for themselves and if they believe that splitting from Balmung is a way to make them feel happy in a game, then I support them. I also pray for them and their server choice, however..

oh come on, that's very here AND there DO TELL

[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
ArmachiA replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
In the beginning of games, they can lock servers from being rolled on. They do it a lot, even did it for FFXIV 1.0 (Besaid was ocked out for awhile, some people had to roll on the backup server and wait to get on Besaid). It is a thing, but it's mostly a launch concern. After that... well expect queue's -
Thanks for your concern. Those who are terrified listen to this man he knows what he is talking about. Those who aren't see you on Gilgamesh. I simply won't run or be scared of some jerk behind a screen. Nope won't do it. See you in game and be sure to check out the beta week and launch week events! 1. I'm female. 2. I'm not afraid. I've ran with this people, I've done what these people do. I know what they are capable of and it's not an issue of being afraid, it's an issue of being constantly interrupted from what you like to do. Hell, come Vampire: The Masquerade I'm rolling with them again, but as I want to roleplay I will not be on the same server as them.. because I know what they do. No one wants their in game character name stolen - but it happened. No one wants their guild name stolen - but it happened. No one wants to have flying penis's interrupt their interview - but it's happened ( ), no one wants a bunch of trolls to take over their entire game - but it happened (EvE). This is what they DO and it's a very real concern, not one you can hand wave off as fear. Saying that it's fear waves me off as a concern troll and it's like I'm being talked down to quite frankly ("YOUR Afriad, but WE AIN'T AFRAID, you SCAREDY CAT") Edit: And, just so we're clear, I'm not someone who has ever said "Just roll on Balmung." I've always been on the side of new people, I've yelled at people who aren't on the side of new people, on here and on the Beta forums. I've tried to explain why people might not be comfortable rolling on Balmung over and over again.
-
I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but Gilgamesh should be aware of the risks with rolling on the same server as 2/3rds of the internet trolls and not handwave it off as "Oh it's just the internet" I hope people trying to carve out a path are prepared for the worst, even if the worst never happens
