  1. Pausing at the doorway, Alex gave another glance down towards his armour under the well-illuminated entranceway. In truth, he knew that he had fussed over nothing. After all, blood stains much harder than any drink would, but bad mood aside that wasn't unlike him. He saw himself as a VIP and usually couldn't take the passive route when provoked. Alex gripped the black, iron doorknob and coiled it towards him, opening the large, creaky door ajar as he peered out into the darkness. It wasn't his first time in Gridania but he had never spent much time anywhere other than the tavern. He swore under his breath as he drew the door back to a close. He didn't fancy the idea of lurking around and asking for directions off of busy strangers who would likely only further anger him. Glancing around the tavern, he scanned for an evident local who wasn't consumed in conversation with their peers. The bartenders both seemed to be very busy and he didn't have the patience to hang around for much longer. Finally, his eyes caught the pan flute player. He seemed to be between songs and would surely provide him with directions. Alex briskly turned and made his way through the people as he made a beeline for the young musician.
  2. Thank you very much! *-* You are of the same opinion as me for both characters >o<" If I may also say, I love your miqo'te character. He looks very cool. I have been doing lots of tinkering and re-tinkering with each of my characters as well, particularly skin tone and hair shades -o- It's definitely serious business, nothing to be taken lightly, eheh.
  3. Alex gripped his temple firmly in reaction to the elevated noise within the tavern. He had yet to break his focus from the pitcher he was gripping loosely is his right hand but it seemed that another musician had accompanied the pan flute player. A drummer at that, which served as a perfect combination with his already throbbing headache. He closed his eyes slowly as he gently massaged his forehead with the tips of his nimble fingers in a vain attempt to sooth his increasing discomfort. "Ahaha, ahahaaaaaaaaa~" a nearby, bellowing laughter echoed towards Alex's corner of the room as it quickly drew closer and closer. A man who had been drinking with a small group of friends stumbled backwards until he finally lost his balance and tumbled backwards over Alex's table. The man's sudden collision knocked Alex's drink clean out of his hand and sent the pitcher flying off of the oaken table, spilling the remainder of his drink onto his newly-crafted, leather armour. Alex immediately stood up from his chair and backed away from the table, eyeing his stained armour with a quickly expanding scowl. The man quickly got to his feet and turned to face Alex, reaching an arm out to his shoulder apologetically as he tried to make amends for spoiling his quiet drink and expensive attire. Alex immediately shot his eyes away from his armour and locked them on to the culprit. His arm shot forward with great speed, grabbing them man violently by his collar. His cold eyes shot a menacing look into those of the older hy'ur who was raising both of his hands submissively before Alex in a silent plea for him not to hurt him. Alex was already near breaking point. He continued to hold the man by his collar, breathing heavily in immense irritation as he battled with his own thoughts on whether or not he wanted to risk a bar fight by striking the man. "Please..." a gentle and feminine voice called out to the side of Alex. A young miqo'te gently placed her hands on Alex's outstretched arm in a lulling attempt to request that he subside. He slowly turned his glance towards her, analyzing her pacifying eyes and gentle touch for a moment. He returned his glare to the man confined against the wall, studying him for a short while longer. His rapid breathing dwindled slightly before he finally, briskly released the man from his firm grip. He briefly surveyed his surroundings after doing so. Not many people seemed to have noticed the miniature scuffle due the the noise and activity within the bar. "We're sorry for the trouble. Please let us buy you a new drink" the young miqo'te finally added, as she remained calmly and ever so slightly gripping his arm. Alex gave the young miqo'te a quick and final look before grunting and shaking his arm free of her grip rudely before proceeding past her towards the tavern door.
  4. Forgive me if I am supposed to try and create the most evil of evil looking characters but it seems I am hopelessly bound to trying to make characters look attractive >w< Blegh... I'll keep at it but for now, here is my highlander female I just made: Edit: Bloop! Last one. I am incapable of making scarily evil characters like so many of the awesome contributions here it seems -o- Ah well, keep them coming1 ^^
  5. My character is going to look totally out of place because I was trying to make him look handsome in spite of being lacking in moral-fibre. In any case, here he is. I'll see if I can make up a whole new one that I won't be RP'ing for the sake of this topic ^^
  6. Alex took another slow swig of his mead as he sat quietly alone in a darker corner of the room, away from the busy fireplace, doorway and counter. Resting his pitcher back down on the table once again with a silent thump, he let out a discreet sigh of contempt as another group of rowdy customers made their way into the already-bustling tavern to enjoy a nice, stiff drink after a long and hard day of work. Usually such things didn't bother him, but he was in no mood for it today. He stared blankly out of a nearby window which was dimly illuminated by a lonely candle sitting on the middle of the sill. He couldn't help but reminisce on the events that had taken place earlier in the afternoon. Sure, it wasn't his fault that the target had been killed in the ambush, nor did it bother him that it would mean that he would only earn half of the promised reward, but rather the fact that he prided himself on always executing a perfect job. He didn't like mistakes and he didn't like the discredit it would bring upon his own skills in the eyes of potential employers, no matter how minor. On top of that, there's no way his pride would allow him to accept even the 50% reduction when he returned to U'ldah in the morning to deliver the target's ring as proof of his defeat. Meaning that the past week he had spent tracking down and sourcing information on the evasive rodent had been all for nothing. A loud cheer from a nearby group of people disrupted his train of thought, causing him to glance irritatedly in their direction. He analyzed them briefly with his fierce, slate-grey eyes as they continued talking amongst themselves, oblivious to his loathsome glare. "Tch..." he grunted quietly to himself as he took another, larger gulp of his drink. He was in that kind of state of mind where absolutely anything seemed to annoy him. He would make this his last drink before hiring a room for the night.
  7. Here is a random Highlander I made the other day. I had no pre-conceived notions that I would even make one but I actually like how he turned out ^^ Tayo Thorne These are some of Alex Hawthorn, my bounty hunter. The two pictures at the top are the original face model I tried. I took several with a different face model to show a friend to see which she thought looked better. What do you think? He's supposed to be a dangerous and cocky character. He almost believes himself invincible at this stage. Then there's Andre Winter, my "snowflake" character. He's rather mellow and carefree. He's very sociable and serves as a part-time bard in taverns and restaurants. He should have a very approachable look I think, but once again I am torn between two face models. Opinions would be appreciated! ^^" And finally, my beloved MiqoMiqo! K'nahli...
  8. Couriers are more effective when you know someone is going to be at a certain place at a certain time though, so the waiting around issue shouldn't be that big of a deal. Anything I send won't be expected at any specific time for instance.
  9. Haha, she's an inventor? *Looks up her wiki page*
  10. Haha, yes my character is a bounty hunter so.... >w< On a mildly related note, I was hoping to find some neutral party that I could have any courier messages addressed to me delivered to. Since my character will always be on the move, it'd have been handy to have some area I can return to consistently where someone could pass on the messages to me. Shame people can't own taverns or such TwT That's likely too complicated though so I guess I will use this in-game mailing system people are mentioning ^^
  11. In that case, a guild of sorts seems it would take too much work. So perhaps it's best to revert to the original idea? Everyone who is familiar with this topic can easily be a free-lance courier. If you hear someone looking for one and you're up for it then feel free to take part. I myself will likely try to pay actual gil but I'll see how it goes ^^
  12. I am still worrying about this myself, I fear that people may not indulge themselves in the service so believe me I know ^^" I suppose you could be right about the payment thing. I just felt it might give some incentive to people to actually take up the service but now I don't know @-@
  13. Nonono! You weren't at all ^^ I just think you misunderstood where my interests were in such a service. I just want to pay people to do it for me, I don't see any of my characters ever playing a courier role. Anyways, it doesn't need to be me who runs or takes part in the service ^^" Whoever is interested is free to do as they please.
  14. I wasn't expecting anyone to actually take interest in being part of an actual fully-fledged courier service so it was really a matter of; If someone says the codeword then it is the IC equivalent of proving their identity as an official courier and that they have read this topic. The word wouldn't need to be a secret or anything ^^" It's just putting it down to people honouring the procedure and not thinking: "Nah I can scam this because I am a professional" That was just my humble suggestion though, I'm sure there are much better methods that can be thought up, particularly from people who have actually played the game and can think of existing features that can be used for such cases. Miii... what I mean is that I have no real interest in participating or running the service myself. It doesn't suit any of my characters unless it is a friendly request, in which case it's a free and platonic favour.
  15. @Sandbourne Ah I would but one of my characters would likely be using it a lot assuming I can find business =w= It wouldn't seem as fun were I to have an alt deliver my own messages for me ^^" That aside, I don't think I'd do well managing a whole group like that.
  16. It crossed my mind but I was feeling doubtful that anyone would actually want to make a wholes establishment out of it. Although, when you think about it... if people started using it quite regularly and they had couriers lurking throughout many different areas then it could prove quite profitable. Hell, they could even have different prices for regular and express mail. Regular = Guaranteed delivery within the hour Express = Immediate departure and prompt delivery. Hm... if anyone actually feels up to this then I'd love to make use of your services TwT (And thank you for your reply, Wizard ^^)
  17. Maybe this is really silly but I was thinking that maybe some people(including myself) could make use out of this. One of my characters would often be receiving quests via courier as well as returning his reply or occasionally sending updates. I thought it might be silly were he to go out of his way to travel all around Eorzea just to tell someone something that would normally be done via mail. Anyways, I figured we could pay people a small fee to people offering a courier service to deliver messages for us. I'm pretty sure there's no way to do this other than physically telling the courier but you need to compromise I guess ^^" Naturally, anyone could come along and tell us they'll deliver our message and then just make off with our money so for a more secure service we could use a particular code word from this topic, which if said in-game would be the equivalent of showing credentials or proving yourself to be a legitimate courier(in other words, you must deliver the message. You can't say the code word and then say "nahh, I was scamming you"). If you can't find anyone with the password nearby, well then it's up to you whether you want to trust a stranger or not. Not sure, I just thought it'd be nice to seek out couriers in taverns or wherever and see it as though my message were on the way. Not only is it more immersive, but anyone who overheard it or is familiar with a courier could intercept it if they felt up to it. Obviously I'd only encourage such behaviour if you genuinely had a reason to ^^ Sorry if this is a really silly idea but I thought I'd mentioned just in case..
  18. There's a lot of talk of griefers in here. Are they really that common?
  19. Not sure if it counts, but one of my Hy'ur's plays as a rather infamous bounty hunter. He works alone and is affiliated with no establishment but if you feel the desire to hire him or anything then who knows! Maybe he can track down someone for you, assuming you have any leads on their whereabouts. Just leaving that here juuust in case ^^"
  20. Very nice intro post and welcome to the community! Whatever server you end up choosing, I hope you make the best choice for yourself ^^/ Should you choose Balmung then I look forward to hopefully bumping into your characters one day, they sound very interesting and well thought out. Have a nice day ~
  21. Is /tell the equivalent of whispers and PMs?
  22. I'm going to be angry and soapbox-y here for a minute (again, actually ) -- not at you, but at the people who engage in behavior like your italicized quote and have promoted it as acceptable behavior. This whole concept of "you're barging into my public scene and that's not okay" needs to be crushed, smashed, incinerated, and tossed into the depths of the sea, because it's a toxic, evil concept that starts RP communities down the road to ruin. If a group of people are RPing in public, their characters are in public*. The IC consequence for their IC action is that people might come up and engage them. If they get angry at you OOC for doing so, if they think you're barging into their scene and ruining it, if they act like it's some huge imposition for you to talk to them (OOC): they're bad RPers, period. They're ignoring ICA=ICC, they're non-consenting things that exist in the world, they're not keeping the IC/OOC line, and they're being cliquish jerks besides. So -- get involved. Talk to people. (Feel free to interact with my character anytime, anywhere. ) Don't worry about people getting angry at you for doing so, because the good RPers will welcome your contribution, and you don't want to RP with the bad ones anyway. You may not always get the IC reaction you want, but a good RPer is going to RP with you. (* - Public being defined as "obviously public." There's public, and then there's not exactly public, and that's a function of how far away are they from where people normally are and whether they're using private channels like /party. Good judgment applies and a /tell can clarify things if need be.) Ehehe, thank you, but it's not even about them being vocal. I'd be worried they were silently thinking something similar even if they politely reacted accordingly IC. I tend to be like that and I will especially be worrysome at first since this is a very new experience to me ^^"
  23. You may have heard of or seen Alex Hawthorn... Pre-Calamity: A black-haired teenager hanging around with the wrong crowds and causing trouble within Limsa Lominsa. Post-Calamity: An active and infamous bounty hunter. Shows little-to-no regard for those he has captured/killed and will follow almost any bounty so long as the coin is right. Due to being a particularly skilled and fierce warrior, he demonstrates a cocky nature and very arrogant attitude in many situations. His success rate has lulled him into a sense of invulnerability. He wears very distinguishable black armour and is considerably wealthy, allowing him to bribe his way out or into many places/situations. Picture:
