I wasn't expecting many at all, not even twenty. I nearly died from the laughter though when someone attacked a tree and ran through the line in attempts to escape or get help only to get everyone smacked and some killed ;;

This. I have additional clocks in my taskbar as a result of this forum but some people keep using different time zones and we all have to find out individually. If the topic creators could do that in our stead it would save a lot of trouble, assuming that's not too selfish to ask ^^"

Andre was cheering for the miqo'te couple the entire time, the were absolutely awesome. However, though needless to say, the hy'ur pair were absolutely hilarious. I was sat laughing away at my laptop in those ungodly hours because of their silliness and creativity with the dancing. I also at one point noticed a girl with an unsheathed blade walking through the crowd. Once I began pursuing her she ran outside of the gates to which Andre continued following her a little. I have no idea if she was rp'ing or not but I didn't get the chance to call out to her ;w; I deliberately minimised the direct participation I exercised for the event being that it was my very first RP performed in a game and my first on that character and was obscenely nervous througout(plus a misunderstanding during my most prolonged interaction didn't help ;; ) but it was still fun and hopefully it will make more more at easy and prepared for events to come ^^ Sorry for the difficulties once again and Elza and thank you for the event. Your RP'ing was fantastic and your speech was beautiful. Edit: Renna Xai.....if you are reading this, then tell me... were you RP'ing?! You responded to me IC initially so I assumed so but I didn't press the conversation as much as I normally would given that everything that was going on was too much for me but I was both IC and OOCly worried about you =w= ;;; And after I alerted fellow staff to you in an attempt to have someone else to try and find out if you were okay your started fishing *amused* >w< Screenshots:

Odin? What's going on? Odin spawned in the South Shroud, lotta people there as well. Ah, I see. I had no idea what that meant at first, I thought she was referring to a person ;; Sorry again about being unable to be there right now, Kylin. I'll get back online asap with an IC reason for being delayed..

Just show up ^^/ In addition, can those of use preparing in advance meet somewhere, such as the first(top) floor of The Bobbing Cork? Would be nice to set up a party to see who we have. I encountered two people just now but they seemed to be half in-character, half-out (?) I'm no sure if I was wrong to greet them OOCly but I imagine the planning should be done as so ;;

Wahhh, east gate has a big role >w< I'm both really excited and really nervous about this. I think I'll level my character a bit today and get him nicer armour for the event. This is mostly clarification for any attendees but everyone should continue to wait at the gate, even after they've received their leve with the seating number, until they are escorted to the Bobbing Cork for the opening speech, correct? Also, is the party leader for each table just created by the the first person issued a number from the table? It sounds obvious but I just want to be sure of what to OOCly ask of each person.

I completely forgot about the final attempt at meeting yesterday, I'm sorry ;;

I think I'd feel the same way. I'd never RP unless I was sure someone else was doing it and most times that would be down to events. I think I've only ever once encountered a possible RP scenario in-game without notice from these forums or my linkshell/FC when I was walking through Thanalan on my hy'ur and some lalafell past me, started walking after me and sent me a tell saying something along the lines of: "Excuse me good sir, but why are you walking?" He afterwards explained that he figured I might be RP'ing. I wasn't, rather I was just enjoying a walk through Thanalan >.> but it was so... cute ;; Just the way he asked and started walking after me(no offence to lalafells, please don't kill me for this reference... but it was a bit like a child copying an adult and taking big walking strides to act like them).

Oh dear. Your character and mine might have an issue ._. Awesome. I forgot to check this topic, I'm glad it wasn't today or I would have missed it.

OH!! I will definitely take part in this if servers and time allows! It'll be midnight where I am unfortunately but I'll try to keep myself awake.

Wow, thank you very much for this. It's not entirely functional at the moment because of the damn server list failures but definitely better than before. Thanks again. Edit: Wow, this got me in O_O Thank you so very much!!

Main Storyline: A Matter of Taste, or RP Etiquette?
K'nahli replied to Gone4everbye's topic in RP Discussion
Haha, I do that as well. I tend to have two versions of a story so I can follow the main storyline as if it were a parallel version to my RP version because I do fully enjoy it and don't want to intentionally numb myself to it just because my characters aren't heroes nor because they aren't supposed to be there or special for that matter. Apologies for asking, Wizard, but could you clarify to me what exactly your idea is then? Are you against having a global goal and situation because it excludes new RPers and suggest that those scenes should be interpreted some other way by us as individuals(but also in a way that won't collide)? I ask because I'd really like this idea and even if we don't adapt the in-game leadership concept then I still think we need OOC coordinators to maintain everything to make sure nothing falls out of line with previous RP or peoples' interests. -
Main Storyline: A Matter of Taste, or RP Etiquette?
K'nahli replied to Gone4everbye's topic in RP Discussion
I wish you'd tell me how to quote like you just did TwT I suppose that is a rather compelling argument. My inexperience is perhaps leading me to underestimate the amount of people that actually yearn for a position of importance and power. However, even with your less restrictive idea, that still prevents people from RP'ing previous timelines with players who have already ran through it. So mostly your concerns fall down to positions of power, aspects which I think are worth a little research at least to see how much interest there is in particular areas and how much influence such players have on each other. You do seem to be comprehending it as though I am implying the the leaders have full control over everything you do and such but rather I mean to place them as a guide. We'd need to be very careful with planning it of course but there could be a reasonable way of handling it given a little thought if the interest was there. If you're part of a Grand Company then you must expect to follow orders from a superior though, right? Likewise, if you're a randomer then you have no allegiances to strictly adhere to so even if you disagree then you can just ignore it and move along if you so choose. I'm a little tired now so can't explain myself as well as I could but I hope the idea isn't too fairytale-ish ^^;; -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
No, no. You're coming at that statement too narrowly, and I should've clarified. They're observably more human than not in just about every way. They think, they feel, they reason, and they create just like humans do. There's no distinction between human and Miqo'te that isn't a few superfluous physical quirks. Also, whether you realize it or not, your attraction is still influenced by physiology, and things that equate to power. Click these words for a blurb on the matter that links to a big ol' published paper. And that works in reverse. Red means "power" to your brain. Power is attractive. That's universal. Oh, I see. I kinda of stated the same in my previous post actually so we are in agreement ^^ If I gave a different impression then I apologise for being unclear. I don't mean to imply that miqo'te are different on a mental level but rather that their cultural mannerisms are more closely comparable to animals than modern society(but as I said, this can apply to any race). -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
Well, no. If I contributed to that idea then I apologise. I don't mean to suggest that miqo'te are incapable of thinking for themselves without succumbing to some sort of base, primal instinct. They just follow a particular culture. One which, as Clover pointed out, is not above sentient beings such as humans. On a more reformed and modern view of things however, their actions are considerably comparable to the behaviour of animals in the wild. Really, it's all a matter of upbringing. If a miqo'te grew up in a different environment it wouldn't have the teachings or moral leanings towards the strongest male unless by some off chance their parents/guardians managed to instill the same ideals of sorts. Miqo'te are just like all other races on an intelligence level. It's just a cultural upbringing which could easily be applied to any other race, even hy'urs or humans in reality. I don't think he was arguing that your feelings were invalid or anything though, he was just demonstrating that the topic isn't useless as it was sort of suggested. personally I don't mind if you find the idea creepy. I don't agree to it because I think you are misinterpreting what most people are trying to learn from it all but to each their own. I can't speak for Myxie but I am sure he wasn't saying you were wrong to feel that way. (Unless he said so elsewhere in his post, I sort of skimmed it). -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
Okay, I thought someone else would correct this but seemingly not. Myxie wasn't suggesting that your disagreements were any less valid because of the reputation points and PMs. He quoted a post of the person you +1'd(and you since you were agreeing to him by +1'ing) because they stated they saw no point in the topic. He responded by outlining all of the positive responses that he received as a result of creating the topic which shows that it served of some use to people, and that validates as a point. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
I always saw them as more human than animal, aside from flicking ears, bristling tails and perhaps growling in frustration and such. Maybe I'm in the minority there, I don't know. But the relationship and sexuality aspects discussed here - if I were to accept it as established lore - don't need to have much influence on your RP overall. If mine gets into a relationship then perhaps a discussion of "oh, you've settled with just one mate? how odd" might come up but I don't think it's enough to dwell on when there are so many other aspects of miqo'te culture you can bring into your RP. Ahhh you misunderstood too! Sorry, that was my fault for being unclear. It wasn't a physical comparison but rather one towards their social behaviours. I'm not sure what you mean with the second paragraph, the only use I ever sought from this topic personally was to ensure that females weren't expected to mate at a certain age or anything because I didn't want to deviate from the lore but I certainly didn't want a character who would be around that age if it were the case either. The only relation the aspects discussed in this topic has to me personally is that I will assume my miqo'te has no reason to not mate when her tribe's nuhn in the future but, again, that point will never be reached in the RP ^^ -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
Interesting bit about this: Miqo'te are observably more human than they are animalistic. Chop the ears and tail off, and you just have a shorter race of people who have a fringe-sect (and it would have to be a fringe, with the way Eorzean society is set up) that insists on keeping to some tribal customs to varying degrees. Why there is any insistence to the contrary is beyond me. You took that quite literally. I wasn't referring to their physical attributes but rather the fact that attraction and desire to mate with the strongest male is more of a primitive and animal-like instinct rather than the emotional attachment humans create. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
I think that's a great way to play it. I know there's also talk of Keepers being promiscuous in this thread and, whilst I have no problem with other players RPing that way, my Keeper will be romantic and monogamous. It's fairly inevitable that some people won't conform to every single cultural tradition and I don't think we need to box ourselves in as RPers in that respect. Welll, even if they have a different way of doing things I think many of us can't help but bring some aspects closer to home to make our characters feel more human and less animal >w< I don't imagine my character will engage in any relationship but I don't want to absolutely cut off any possibility for her either ;w; Besides that, Clover would renounce all affiliation her miqo'te has with K'nahli if I did such a thing, haha. She wants her to find a tia for herself for some reason TwT Thiiiiss. The title is unfortunately attracting the wrong kinds of attention. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
Using our tribe as an example plus others I believe, if I recall correctly, from this topic who contributed to the discussion, most if not all people decided to roll with that idea that mating was totally up to the female's discretion and that there was no time period where females were expected to return to their nuhns. It was simply a matter of: Female Miqo'te: ("I feel like settling down and having children") *Mates with nuhn* Basically, we're saying that nuhns exist to be the prime and most desirable male in the tribe, as of current, due to their strength and successful contest against the previous nuhn. Females aren't forced to mate with them but rather they want to because Sunseeking females are culturally attracted to the 'alpha male' as it were rather than having romantic inclinations like humans tend to. There are exceptions but as a general note, female Sunseekers are expected to view nuhns as an ideal mate rather than an unfortunate obligation should they want to bear children. Personally, I will not be RP'ing such a scenario but were it to come up in conversation then she would intend to mate with a nuhn one day, no different from anyone else... but she will have romantic inclinations like we(humans) tend to which may deter from her culture and tribal society. -
Main Storyline: A Matter of Taste, or RP Etiquette?
K'nahli replied to Gone4everbye's topic in RP Discussion
But this only affects people that WANT to be the protagonist. Just assuming and playing by such standards is already potentially stepping on the RP of every single person they meet who may have played to a different chronicle whereas if we can all gather together to unify under a single set of leaders(and leaders can change and die and be promoted/demoted/move etc) we are promoting more consistency and inclusion to as many people as possible and having influence on their stories both directly and indirectly. I'm sure most of us can rise above this though. No-one wants god modders or ultimate players who can dictate everything we do or do not do. Our characters have free will and I only suggested such "elite" players to play leadership roles or perhaps suit in to meld with any future lore that cannot be attributed to many people and where a "scapegoat" for lack of a better word is needed. The fact of the matter is that some people need to play the leadership role, someone that members of grand companies or volunteering adventurers/mercenaries can look to otherwise everything will be in disarray and everyone will assume responsibility and cause IC or OOC arguments. Not the good kind I might add. Disarray is nice but it can't be there all of the time because no-one is a leader on the battlefield or elsewhere. While this is probably the safest option I'd still like to know what everyone else thinks. Unless many people can come here and give valid reasons why this would interfere with their RP styles or stories personally then I think we should remain open to the possibility of having a more managed and sophisticated setup. Sure it might take a little work, but imagine how amazing it would be to have an absolute structure where everyone played a role to varying degrees. No-one would dictate who does what, every positioned is volunteered to and voted on by us. ? ^^ -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
As a Miqo'te roleplayer I'm inclined to agree. Why is this there such a huge focus on this? It's bordering creepy, in my most humble of opinions. One of my close friends has already given up trying to role-play a miqo'te because not one, but three different 'nunh' characters sent her messages asking if she wanted to bed them. Wahh, that is.... odd. I am very inclined to believe these players were trolling though, particularly if the cases occurred within a close time-span of each other. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
K'nahli replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
I haven't read any of the recent pages of this thread, but in the defence of the topic its merely that people wanted to gather a better understanding of traditions and what they must adjust to or presume will be the case where information is missing. While you say that not everything has to be "by the book" in every case or so to speak, not everyone wants to be the exception and deviate from the lore just to spare themselves the effort of doing a little research and discussion. Frankly, I don't see why everyone has to keep jumping to the same comment.. "Geez, why are you so obsessed about sex?" That is not, I repeat, not... what this topic is about. People making such comments are the ones making it seem like something it really isn't and it has been discussed and argued before.
