Lore vs mechanics, smore vs slechanics. As a blackmage I just healed through half a Titan fight before the tank flew off the edge and I think that should count for something! >:T

While the official game data and the above state that thaumaturgy comes from within, it's implied (at least to me) that our inner aether provides the catalyst to start the flow and we start "pushing and pulling" aether from our surroundings in and out of our physical forms. Astral Fire and Umbral Ice. Just, uh... Don't abuse it. Unless you really, really hate your internal organs. Glad to see someone shares my headcanon for the give and take of thaumaturgy. '3'

I. Basic Info Characters: Roda Proust Primary character: Roda Proust Linkshells: I'm in a couple OOC LSs for friends but that's it. Primary RP linkshell: Currently looking! II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): It really fluctuates with my mood and the people I am around. If you're consistently in character, I'm in character, if you're consistently out of character, I'm out of character. I'd prefer to be surrounded by a medium to heavy RP crew, but it really is just a matter of IC to OOC ratio. Views on RP combat and injuries: I'm very not fond of combat being the first solution to any conflict but I'm not too against it when situations get dire (although my character IS physically weak and I wish to use her magic as more of a tool than a weapon). How the combat should be carried out, I'd like to talk it out before hand since I don't see myself getting into many direct combat encounters for the time being. As for injuries, I'd like for them to have weight and for their severity to be respected as to respect the healers who will inevitably have to fix them. u_u But this means keeping massive injuries (ones that lead to disfigurement) to a minimum to not diminish their weight. And I prefer to deem when and if these types injuries are appropriate for my character. *nod nod* Views on IC romance: I'm not hardcore against it, but it is very unlikely. I tend to favor platonic relationships in fiction. Views on non-romantic RP relationships (family ties, etc): My character, like most miqo'te RPers out there I'd imagine, has split from her clan to explore the world and do her adventurer thing. So she doesn't really have strong ties to her direct family, though she may have a few friendly acquaintances throughout the realm. I could use a magical mentor though as my character is a rather unskilled thaumaturge. '3' Views on lore: My views on lore are pretty simple, stick to it unless it's dumb, then modify it so that it allows for the most fun with the least amount of diverging from the writer's vision as possible. (and when in doubt, favoring the official lore) Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): They're in the lower left hand corner of my monitor. No but really, I'll typically try to match the style of RP with whoever I am RPing with. III. Other Info RP experience: In-game MMO RP? very little. A single shakey, panic-filled tavern event in xiv with a friend from another game as my dinner buddy for the night, a couple passive events in WildStar, and maybe when I got a little bit too far into it as a kid just discovering MMOs for the first time. I have such a hard time inserting myself into an in character community as I am not a fan of the tavern and brawl scene. I'd love a RP Senpai to help show me the ropes a bit so I can not have a panic attack every time I have to /emote or look at an empty character bio template. Forum/tumblr/irc/any other text-based RP? None, absolutely none. It bores me to death. I don't mind collaborative writing or even sequential short story games, but if I wanted to make an epic tale with a bunch of people, I'd prefer we co-write the piece with equal say on all parts of the story. Table top / pen and paper RP? Actually a little bit, but unfortunately I'm running with a group of power gamers so I don't really get to do any kind of fun character building and general shenanigans. :T Country: America Timezone: Eastern Contact info: PM me here, post below, or send me a shout out in-game!

This line was said by the most long-winded, moronic character in Hamlet. That doesn't make it untrue. The fact that it's true is what makes it funny. '3' As for the thread, most of mine have already been said, but I have to reiterate the whole book-page-for-one-hair-flip-and-a-hello problem. In a game with no speech bubbles chat scroll needs to be budgeted in public RP, and I'd rather that space be taken up with conversation than descriptions through emote on what your shoes look like, despite them being right there on your character. (of course this is mainly for the more 'lax RP like sitting by the campfire, or on the beach enjoying the waves. It's a different thing if shenanigans are afoot.) Edit: Another one that I just remembered: Unless you want your character's accent to be comically unintelligible, don't make your characters dialogue horrifically unreadable with more apostrophes than letters. Some characters I've met over the years had very interesting bios, but I never got to experience those characters' awesomeness e'c's 'ere 'ext 'lwa's look'd 'ike 'is.

Hooray for more fem roes!

If you see me with a completely useless food buff I'm most likely in character and feel free to say hi!

For me, typically my character is created the moment her story begins. Sure she has a history, but I try to not make it more exciting or more impressive than what I play, because who wants to play the second most interesting point in their character's lives? I like that it leaves me lots of room for character growth than starting out as an expert. To take your character as an example, I wouldn't find that too weird, but I'd have them start out as beginner-intermediate martial artist as they enter Eorzea and have them train at the pugilist guild under another Doman refugee as their mentor.

Maybe she is half highlander and the elezen blood made her features more delicate?

I thought it was because of the class issue and they weren't married.

I'd like some metrics from SE to see the percentages on that particular choice.

ITT: Why RP is hard without a DM. Personally I'd prefer it if people treated the entire game as a singular tool and (rather loose) ruleset for RP instead of just the chat box and the /roll function. (Srsly wtb dueling) That's just more immersive to me and it's why I play the game instead of using tumblr, irc, or a forum. But this seems to be a clash between roleplaying game philosophy and forum role playing philosophy, and I don't think there's going to be any kind of consensus because it follows preference more than any objective logic. :T

Anyone else get a weird mortal kombat vibe from that? My friends and I call it a choppy Pokemon battle. They even take turns. Eh I guess it was because it was a weirdly muscular 4 armed dude vs a nearly naked ice lady. '3'

Yes the game should be up in about 3 hours from this post. -
Really? Are there a bunch of Au Ra NPCs that I've missed, or are these players? (I don't play with nameplates on, so I would miss them '3') Not that it's a bad name, but it still doesn't mean the less mature characters wouldn't jump at the opportunity.

Prepare yourself for an unfortunate nickname. Also when we gonna see some Torguds in here or Bolirs?!

I still don't understand the difference between early access and official release. Surely, if one wanted to obtain and play the game as soon as possible they would've preordered it for the headstart, right? I mean even physical preorders get headstart codes. Personally I'd worry more about payday.

There's also a tribe that flees at first sign of anyone else but them, so It's not SUPER DUPER UBER far fetched to be able to hide away. (Just the timeline is iffy)
