  1. Greetings. I'm a returning player with a new character I would like to integrate into more story driven RP. I'm in particular looking for a suitable FC to do this with, but I'm looking for other contacts a well. Proud Dahlia is the daughter of wealthy Ul'dahns who often grows bored with her life of privilege. A trained fencer, she often fights in various tournaments to entertain herself. When not doing that, she's a dilettante scholar of historian, particularly magical history. While the subject is a passion of hers, she mainly pursues it as a means to explore and adventure. Her recent research into the history of Abanian red magic has led to her beginning to practice it herself. Dahlia's a bit cocky and certainly lives up to the 'proud' part of her name. That said, she's not oblivious to the plight of those beneath her station and does what she can to help, donating any earnings from her prizefighting and adventures to help those less fortunate. Most recently she's been championing the restorations of Doma and Ala Mhigo as the war for their liberation draws to a close.
  2. I'm going to bump this old thread as I'm actively playing and seeking employment for Tila again.
  3. I would be happy to have Tila run a stand for her pastries, though it seems you have another baked goods provider already. If you'd prefer I can have her cook something else for your event.
  4. I would like to have Tilala participate in the June 6th event.
  5. This certainly seems interesting. I'll consider it and be in touch soon, thank you.
  6. Tilala Tila is a chef looking for employment. She's a plainsfolk lalafell who was born and raised in La Noscea and a diligent student of Eorzean cuisine. Her specialty is pastries, but she can prepare a wide menu of dishes from all around Hydaelyn. She's a sociable and friendly, if a bit proud sort. Not only would she be willing to work for some manner of establishement, but she's also open to cater and provide smaller orders for special occasions on a one-time basis. Beyond that, I seek general RP contacts for her. Beyond the above, Tilala is also an avid player of Triple Triad and travels often, seeking to learn new culinary techniques and personally gather ingredients. I'm open to any other ideas for RP hooks, so feel free to approach me.
  7. Nadine has stolen Garlean magitech in the past alogn with her father and given that she works for Skysteel is quite interested in it. Feel free to contact me for RP at any time.
  8. This fit's Nadine's nature pretty well: MuRZn5CZ-24
  9. Where is Siren's RP website? Google seems to be failing me and if there is such a thing, I would love to find it.
  10. If it's not too late, I would like to register for the pie eating and shots contests.
  11. Decided to finally hop on this bandwagon. http://spirit-of-skysteel.tumblr.com/ Not much here just yet though.
  12. It's nothing too new. It's in the Advanced Players' Guide. Deliberately tried to avoid more recent content.
  13. Speaking of, have your current players given you an idea what they want to play? Additionally, would be a better way to talk about details such as these besides this thread? For the record, I'm most interested in playing one of the more roguish Bard archetypes. (Sandman and Archaeologist, specifically interested in Sandman.)
  14. I'm potentially interested. I'm pretty well familiar with Pathfinder, having played several games over the past few years. It's not my favorite (I feel 5th edition is very good), but I like it enough. What material will be allowed for chargen? All Paizo or a bit more restrictive?
  15. Initially I planed to play a Roegadyn. However, I became significantly more fascinated with elezen lore and gravitated towards maining one of them. Then, give the fact that this game does not really reward playing alts in any capacity. That is why my only character is an elezen. I'm not entirely sure where the implicit notion that Roegadyn are unattractive really comes from. Both sexes of the race seem plenty attractive to me.
  16. As far as the contest winners go, they're pretty cool, but I hope the male winner gets added for females eventually, as I think it would look nice on them.
  17. Is it Haillenarte that lost Stone Vigil? Almost all the flavor text for it I can find refers to House Durendaire. The descriptions for Stone Vigil normal and HM respectively: “One of four watchtowers built along the Sea of Clouds by the city-state of Ishgard, the Stone Vigil was overrun and occupied by the Dravanian Horde not long after the Calamity. The following years have seen the knights of House Durendaire make several attempts at reclaiming the fortress, but to no avail. What could it be that thwarts their every effort?” “Too long has the Stone Vigil been ravished by the Dravinians and their thralls; too long has House Durendaire suffered this infamy. Time has come for its dragoons to retake the fortress, ten hundred lances and a thousand dreams of vengeance strong. Though the knights of Ishgard breach the gate to find a lodgment within the Vigil, the enemy is well-defended and amply supplied. This deadlock must be broken─and who better than those who once made free of the fortress under the dragons' very noses, and lived to tell the tale?” This seems to suggest that Stone Vigil was lost by Durendaire. Where is it written that it was initially lost by Haillenarte?
  18. Haillenarte in particular is a an allied house to Fortemps. They also have a reputation for treating the commonfolk well and creating plenty of work for them, and are therefore more respected among them than the other noble houses. They do indeed own the Skysteel Manufactory, and its present overseer Stephanivien Haillenarte has a radical idea of arming commoners with their newly developed firearms, being able to field them faster and with less investment than traditional knights. Naturally, he has faced criticism and opposition from both within his house and from the other houses. (Which is a focal point of the MCH storyline). It is also known that Haillenarte has recently fell on hard times and does not have the prestige that it once held. The reasons for this aren't exactly explained, but it's seen as a lesser player among the four. (with Fortemps and Dzmael being bigger ones that oppose each other). In the main ARR questline you also help a member of the family escape a false heresy accusation. Durendaire there isn't nearly as much written about to my knowledge, unfortunately. They're an ally to Dzmael and with them form the more traditionalist houses (with Fortemps and Haillenarte being known as more progressive.)
  19. If the new BSM AF isn't the very definition of sexy I dunno what is. EDIT: Adding in another shot I found that I liked, Nadine and a friend on the beach
  20. Lilia Lia It also doesn't seem lore appropriate to me that characters would have such a worldview simply because they are "adventurers who travel a lot." Christopher Columbus didn't stop being racist when he discovered the Americas. Historically speaking, people who contributed to the more enlightened modern attitude towards physical race were intellectuals and scholars, both inside and outside the oppressed groups, rather than being "worldly people" per se. Most of this change in attitude took place in universities and places of higher education. And the other items you listed - tradespeople/merchants, criminals/outcasts, specialized mercenaries - well, I just don't see the connection between their line of work and their general worldview. If anything, I would imagine such people probably have less formal education and are therefore less likely to have distinctive or sophisticated belief systems. You raise fair points, but again I feel that a person's right to play a character however they want (provided they respect the setting) is entirely uncompromisable. That said, I do agree that the existence of common views should be acknowledged as such. Though I cannot say without evidence, it sounds to me as if your experiences are with people who struggle with such. It is unfortunate that Lilia is perceived negatively for her beliefs. I've not seen such happen myself, but I can imagine that it does. Honestly, that may drive some people away from playing more conventional characters. It is a bit unreasonable to do that unless the characters in question are the sort to question the belief of every average person they come across. That said, some people play characters who just might. Some characters are pretty loud about their disdain for bigotry, as rebellious as that is. They may even go to far and become an actual problem in and of itself doing so. Our own world sees this often enough, in varying severity. From "activists" who stab and shadows and actively demonize disagreement to cultural revolutionaries who cross the line and become violent terrorists. That isn't to say that's necessarily what your character may have experienced, but it is food for thought. I agree that racism as a concept probably isn't something people are widely aware of. People still may question Lilia's beliefs with 'why'. It's not out of the realm of possibility. Some may do so loudly, maybe even angrily for their own reasons. It is going to become a point of contention, I believe, one way or the other. Just as a rebel should find pressure from the norms of the world at large, a traditonalist will find themselves challenged as well by a force of change. Dark themes cause conflict, which I would always welcome to any story. You'd be hard-pressed to have a very exciting or moving one without it. It would be pretty boring if EVERYONE obeyed the social rules of society, don't you think? I sincerely hope you've not experienced any OOC stigma from your character's beliefs. I know that much may be a possibility, but if people are judging someone for their character's actions or words, they're probably not especially good roleplayers and wouldn't be someone I would mourn avoiding interaction with.
  21. Pretty much this. Very few people seem to be RPing commoners, and it's fine for people to have unusual beliefs from the norm. The average Eorzean's belief is certainly a part of the setting and will most likely play a role in a character's backstory and life, but it isn't necessarily reflected in a PC's belief. Most role-players seem to play characters who fall into the following categories: adventurers of some sort, more specialized mercenaries, tradespeople and merchants, scholars, and criminals/outcasts. All of these demographics are likely to have open-minded or unique outlooks upon the world as a whole. Of course, by the same token, they don't HAVE to have progressive outlooks on things. Some may even have prejudices that are completely estranged from Eorzean society. Your character may not be in any of these categories, in which case, it's possible their beliefs will fall in line with the traditional. Just as likely, though, they've have unique life experiences which shaped their lives different. Very few people I know of play a commoner who is common in EVERY regard. Of course, this is all the prerogative of a character's particular player, and that's really the bottom line. Unless you're in the business of telling people what they should and should not be playing, I'm not sure why character's tending towards the open-minded is a bad thing. Yes, Eorzea can be a dark and spiteful place with plenty of gritty themes. They can be fun to work with and incorporate into your character. It's wrong to assume, though, that because people don't wish to play a more hateful character that they don't acknowledge these themes are present in the setting. Some prefer to be a light in the darkness. Many even enjoy the conflict of their character's bright idealism clashing with a shady reality. It's true that some people wish to just surround themselves with lighthearted and pleasant RP, and that's their right. It doesn't even necessarily clash with the setting. Even in real life, people can live in a pleasant bubble of a community and remain oblivious to the plight and strife of the world at large. I suppose my final thoughts on the matter, and advice to those who wish there was more 'presence' of the darker side of the setting in RP would be to make it happen. Be the bad guy, stir up trouble, light the fire. Many of us who play so-called idealists would welcome opposition that comes in the form rigid traditionalism. Frankly, I would love to see Nadine's forward-thinking outlook be challenged by more conventional Ishgardians. I know the "if you want something to happen, do it yourself" mantra is a bit trite in roleplay communities, but it's so for a reason, as it is often the best solution to a perceived problem.
  22. There's a weapon vendor in the Forgotten Knight in Ishgard who sells greatswords, including an i115.
  23. Nevermind. I'm a bit too unfamiliar with the system to fill in as a replacement on such short notice.
  24. Nadine is definitely slaving away in her workshop or the manufactory, working on new inventions to turn the tide in the war on dragonkind.
