Two things in reply Rosekitten 1. My best ever RP has always been from "drive by" as well as my best RP friends that followed. I just love free-form unstructured improvisation RP. Though I suppose I am quite adapt at coming up with hooks on the spur. Some are not and need ooc structure to create their RP "box". 2. I dislike OOC as it spoils the immersion for me. I stay IC as much as possible, even when doing mechanics and running or changing gear but in my head (and if you bump me) I am IC. I rarely have the OOC conversation with someone I am with unless something that required OOC commitment is needed like time, limits etc.. And I loathe OOC dissection if IC things and at times I feel some what this more than RP. So combine the two and add in prodding people and it can be good, with times of scarcity. On and a thought/reflection, I go to the big events people provide and bring my RP. I know that at least the people there want to RP (target rich) and it's a good way to touch a few people then have some follow ups later. Don't just go along with the event, use it as a facilitator for YOUR RP. really.. prod me if you see me.. anyone. We may RP hit it off or we may not.

Here how I use mine Chocobo mount - generally a rented thing, that gets put in a stable Chocobo Pet - my friend that I rescued from killer crabs in Costa del Sol Coeurl - my main mount that I captured and trained. It gets set loose to hunt when I arrive and comes to a whistle Magitek - I have no IC reason for this and so never comes out Voidal - not sure will proably use for All Saits as a spirit or something along with the pet I don't have any others but as my Char is dabbling as Conjurer I may come up with something for a Unicorn, cos they is kewl. I also walk run a fair bit, being a Bard that eats up the miles quite nicely.

Ok a quick view from me.. Do something to be noticed, I will go for the person standing there to startup an RP but many do not. If you are not noticed you likely wont get in. So clothing, emote, talkk to an NPC.. do something that indicates you are here to RP. Have hooks that people can catch on. Once the contact starts have some things that others can respond to. Lost your sister, looking for a woodcutter, where is a good place to stay, evil wizard tuned my dog into a frog.. etc. Initially this could be your personality or physique, I'm shy, I'm blind etc.. but that sort of things soon gets thin. Be prepared to RP more that your character's traits. Give .. give.. give.. and then give some more. You will get back what you put in. I can say there is nothing worse than RPing at someone who just responds with a shrug or a one word answers or who does not give up any hooks or information. Ask questions, be a good listener, people love to talk about themselves and be prepared to do likewise. Do stuff! If someone suggests checking out the ruins go along, not everything happens in a Tavern. Better still ask for people to help you visiting the Shrine of the Twelve or something. And finally if you see a lone person who might be hesitent, go talk to them. That was going to be a few bullets but .. well hey. Sorry it's a bit rushed, hopefully my points came across. If you want to RP you can always give me a prod.. I'm beginner friendly and expert trouble.

Looking for a good-aligned early evening FC!
Nebbs replied to Vairemont Malveaux's topic in RP Discussion
I was going to suggest the same. TTG is where I am at so I am biased. -
Has this fallen on the calender?

Thanks for all the interest, and yes bribery will do nicely , IC bribery ofc. I am working to get the background stuff sorted and tying people up IC is time consuming, but we are getting there. However, this weekend it is preparation for the Coffer and Coffin event EVENT that I am helping out at.
-
Nebbs will be there if anyone wants accompaniment. Or if somone fancies putting on a little play outside I would be up for that.
-
Thanks for the interest Clover. Maybe an IC trip? The Travelers Guild and others would definitely be able to provide an expedition type service.

Thanks for the initial interest. I'm hoping to run some pre-RP with sponsors and other interested groups. Just sorting out FC leads for the areas.

Not certain what diluted story would mean in this context, but I'll just say - not necessarily! Also, there are RP linkshells out there (including my own), and since you can be in multiple linkshells, they are a very easy way to ICly network. LS I think are great as they offer great flexibility and one character can be in many, unlike a FC, which is what the point was aimed at. Simply if you spend all your time RPing one character in one FC it should be a rich and deep story built up over time and shared with others in the FC etc.. If you spend that time instead with six Characters in six separate FCs then it is likely to be a more "diluted" (among your characters) RP experience. Volume is not the same as Quality. Though there is much that could be said on stories that span characters and having a richness in that way. Neither is better than the other, and there are degrees not absolutes. It all depends what you want and can find.
-
Well just to fly in the face of it, spreading yourself over multiple FCs means alts, which means diluted story. Whatever works for you in the end.

Well I avoided FATE grind groups, I figure I will have to get into that madness for other classes/jobs. I gout my level and GC up through the story quests, dungeons and Hunter Log, which gives you a good boost on your GC. The last rank does not open up until you finish the story it seems, by which time I found I had already better gear. For FATEs they are needed but I did them solo and mostly when they were close.
-
Well my advice is find a FC that is active and RPing. That will help you build a forward story that is connected to others and provide some rich RP. Some prefer to go solo on RP though. Also tap into the events (check out the home page on this forum), a great way to meet many people. If chatscroll is an issue (it is) then use Party (oh you have already re-purposed Event for RP only text?) Join one of the general RP LS and shout out or join in the RP. You will soon find where the RP is happening and you can then also pick up more casual RP around there. Prepare some opening lines if you feel a bit shy... you know "Hello I lost my pet have you seen a " (maybe a thread worthy subject in itself?) And always throw RP hooks/rocks at people who just happen to be around, like the fisherman or the person enjoying the view, or the person you help against overwhelming odds etc.. You don't always get a bite and it may only be a brief exchange but it all adds up.

Great event, friends, performances, drama, and I think some ended up drinking.
-
I'd love to be a part, sign me up.
-
He could have least have been cooking. nothing like cooking theatre at your table.. yes indeed.
-
This is a great idea and I'd love to see it as a LS, with the only chatter being.. "I am RPING , " I'm in a few LS that are RP focused, but guess what.. they are general chat, dungeoning and RP shouts are maybe in there occasionally.
-
It really is their problem to deal with. There I already wasted too much effort on them.

Great time thanks for organising it. Oh Nebbs is on a roll, winner of the dance competition at the Gala and now part of an improv group.. Good job she is a bard!
