For Cecilia, ice water. Cold, understated, and not fully understood by science.

The person above your post is now your spouse!
Sylentmana replied to MilanaMina's topic in Fun Prompts
We are married now?! Well, I hope you are ready to get down and...accept your miserable, sexless marriage to a cold and emotionally distant miqo'te woman. -
This is actually a large part of my character's backstory. She comes from Sharlayan and was the top student in her class. She's always been the quiet type and while she wasn't openly smug about her intelligence, as you described, she does have something of a superiority complex. She is also prone to do this:

I about did a spit take on this one.

What kind of driver would your character be?
Sylentmana replied to LadyRochester's topic in Fun Prompts
The kind who smashes into things without realizing it. Her insurance premiums would be through the roof. -
Cecilia would much rather enjoy the sweet succulent taste of freedom...or lobster.

How did you come up with your character?
Sylentmana replied to Kai Motokawa's topic in RP Discussion
My characters are often based on characters I've made from other video games and D&D. I also take some inspiration from other anime and video game characters. I also add a little bit of myself or my friends into the mix. All this acts as a sort of base from which to start. Then I allow the character to sort of develop on her own as I go along. Sometimes she stays the same and sometimes she becomes something completely different. I guess you could say, that's my character alchemy. -
My character Cecilia is a mage and teleports as often and easily as breathing since she has practice manipulating aether and has very extensive personal aether reserves. My character Ryoko is a lancer from Doma and has no experience with aether manipulation. She can teleport occasionally but it leaves her feeling woozy and sick to her stomach for about 30 min. As a result she hates it.
-
Here is my thoughts on the matter. To me, teleportation has always been the domain of mages and other heavy magic users. While IC with a mage, teleportation is a perfectly acceptable method of travel. However, when playing a non-mage type, I prefer more conventional methods of travel as it just doesn't make sense that a swordsman or lancer would have the ability. Even in the MSQ, the only characters we see actively teleporting are magic users. Because of this, I feel my preference is justified.

"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Sylentmana replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
I just started creating a profile for my character. I haven't gotten very far yet and I still haven't figured out how to upload my character's pic from my PS4. Still, I'm having fun with it. -
How to find the balance between overpowered and underpowered?
Sylentmana replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
While overpowered characters can be a problem, I don't see a problem with underpowered ones. Not every character needs to be a powerful mage or skilled fighter. I have one character who is a Weaver and that's it. She could be considered underpowered as she can't fight, but that doesn't mean she is a bad character. -
See, this is why I prefer to play a mage. Any demands of realistic combat is kind of forced out by the presence of magic. If the other person still insists on realistic combat, manawall would make all melee attacks useless at least long enough to cast a spell. Congratulations, your demand for realism now means you are incinerated, impaled by ice, or have suffered death by electrocution. Realism in a game can only carry you so far.

Hey, remember that Miqo'te "child" in Idylshire?
Sylentmana replied to Marisa's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Now I hope they show us child Au Ra next. I bet they are super cute as well. -
Oh goodness! I can't stress enough how much I love the Scholar's new steampunk style gear!

5. I prefer to remain IC while logged in and react to players and the world in a more organic way rather than acting out "scenarios". To me, that's more akin to stage acting than RP, though I suppose its really just a question of preference. 6. People who ERP don't really bother me so long as they don't harass me with it and aren't just openly banging out in the open, like right in the Aetheryte plaza or something. 7. I might get some flak for this, but...I cringe a bit whenever I read a wiki or meet a character who has a "dark/super tragic" backstory. Minus double points if it makes the character all "angsty." It just seems like these types are everywhere and its getting a little old. 8. I'm silently judging you for your misspellings and improper use of grammar in your wiki. Not so much in-game though as you don't often have the time to proofread as thoroughly as a wiki. 9. I think players who can have their characters carry on a conversation while walking have crazy mad RP skills. I can't do that and I respect others' ability to do so. 10. I allow for a certain level of meta when RPing solo so I can suddenly go from an open field or city to a dungeon (duty finder) without it bothering me or disrupting my RP experience. Put simply: my immersion is only disrupted when I allow it to be. It would take the game crashing to pull me out of immersion against my will.
-
I think this largely has to do with one's preferred method of RP. There are many who need a certain level of context and are really only in character when doing a scene. If this is your way of RPing, then you may need to get in contact with the other players ahead of time to discuss possible scenarios in which your characters could interact in a manner that makes sense.

What's your characters favorite type of music?
Sylentmana replied to Xzenivar's topic in Fun Prompts
Cecilia would be fairly eclectic in her musical tastes. However, she would likely favor a variety of synthesized music (Daft Punk, Mitch Murder), movie orchestral themes, and quirky oddball songs. In short, she kinda has the same tastes as me. -
Aside from her chocobo, Cecilia has a pet baby djigga and a baby morbol. She dearly wants a pet funguar, though.

What If Your Character's Backstory Didn't Happen?
Sylentmana replied to Sounsyy's topic in Character Workshop
If Cecilia's adoptive parents hadn't found her that day in the forest, she likely would have died...or been raised by funguars. One's as likely as the other with her. -
1. I RP a lot solo, but usually limit my RP with others to short passing interactions. This is largely due to the fact that I'm terribly slow at typing and very shy. 2. I prefer to use the game's mechanics and rules to dictate what a character can and can't do rather that focus on telling stories. Unfortunately, this seems to clash with many players as RP seems to have evolved to encompass a more story driven play style. I'm slowly coming over to this way of RPing, though. 3. I've tried playing as other races but I'm always drawn back to Miqo'te. As a result I currently have a Seeker with a very Hyur name. Since I'm too cheap to pay for a name change (especially after paying to transfer her to Balmung) I've adjusted her backstory to explain her unusual name. *Update* I've finally been able to settle with her being a Xaela. I found one last Fantasia that my retainer had. Her situation is still the same with her having a very Hyur name. 4. I have two versions of my character: One for solo play which follows the main story with my character as the WoL, and one version for public RP with her being less "special". Her background is essentially the same regardless of version.

I admit, I don't really get this one. Do Seekers have webbed feet or something?

I've had this weird infatuation with both Yda and Y'shtola since the 1.0 era.

Differences and similarities between you and your character
Sylentmana replied to 13uddy's topic in Fun Prompts
Similarities: -Both have a strong interest in ancient civilizations. -Both love reading. -Both are more introverted. -Neither of us put much stock in religion. -Both have little regard/respect for those often considered our "betters" unless they earned their wealth/position in a fair and honest way (nobility, the very wealthy). -We hate being told what to do and will often do the opposite out of spite. -We both have a strong interest in botany. Differences: -I don't consider myself stupid, but Q'ilora has a genius level intellect. -I have a short temper, but Q'ilora is slow to anger and can remain calm in most situations. -I have a short attention span, but she can remain focused for long periods. -Q'ilora has a bit of a sadistic streak when it comes to her enemies. -She isn't afraid of conflict though she doesn't actively seek it. I avoid it at all costs. -She holds grudges, but I prefer to just drop the issue and avoid it and often the person. -I'm prone to panic in dangerous situations, but she can remain calm and often seems unfazed if not amused. -
[Spoilers] Dark Knights, Am I the Only One?
Sylentmana replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
Perhaps for a chaotic evil character. Voidsent are devoted consuming the Aether of Hydaelyn and the world after all. They are other worldly, maddening creatures that exist to destroy the world. Yeah. A lot of people seem to forget that - and voidsent are, realistically, a threat to be put down. They're better left to something played temporarily as part of an event and then ultimately banished or slain. There's only so many times an outright villain can become a thorn in someone's side and then conveniently escape without it becoming stale. It's why I always cringe whenever I see someone role-playing their character as a succubus...in broad daylight, no less. Can it be done well? Sure! But usually it's less about being a fearsome voidsent and more about catering to ERP from what I've seen. I was talking more about a character that attained their power through a pact with a voidsent ala D&D warlock. Not so much an actual voidsent. I wouldn't play either one, to be honest as I don't really like tank classes and I'm far too attached to my mage. -
I started to write a simple response, but got carried away and 2.5 hours later I had this. I hope someone reads and enjoys it.
