  1. So I'm in the market for a good gaming laptop, but this is largely uncharted territory for me as I've always been a console person. I try to do research on the topic, but every website has a different computer recommended as the best one and you never know which site is being paid to recommend a certain computer. Besides, I don't really understand all the tech lingo. Here is what I'm looking for: can play most games on the highest setting with little to no trouble, fairly large screen (I assume HD is standard for most PCs now), a hard drive that won't crap out on me after 6 months like my last computer, strong wireless capabilities, and good memory. There is probably more that I need, but I can't think of it right now. As for the price, I'm willing to go up to $3500.00 so long as I can pay in monthly installments. So what would you guys recommend?
  2. All my co-workers are twice my age and most of them have never played a game past NES Super Mario. My sister is also a co-worker, though, and I got her into Skyrim. Beyond that, I can't say I have.
  3. Sounds just like me in RL......
  4. Because I was at work with nothing to do and bored out of my mind. Never be over productive.
  5. I know, right? Her appearance is just fine. There is no reason to change it.
  6. I do the payroll and billing for an in-home care and assistance company. I'm also the boss's personal assistant...for better or worse.
  7. That makes sense, though I still think there must be a way to resist or even avoid the tempering process all together. After all, the Allagans invented Summoning and they would have to have some way of dealing with the tempering process. Though I think we've gotten way off topic now.
  8. At various times, my characters have: -Told a child he was the devil before snapping her neck -Cut a Chelsea's smile into a man's son while he was gagged, then tightened the gag into the wounds to ply information -Nailed a woman naked to a table, removed one of her tattoos with a knife and laid it on her face, then threatened to kill her fiancee -Impaled a man on a spike and gave him a set of weights to hold. If he dropped them, we would have killed his son -Rolled a man feet-first into a wood chipper -Killed my own character's fiancee after two years of developmental relationship RP -Set a drug-prevention church mission on fire while everyone slept -Ripped out a friend's character's throat and stitched it back up with steel wire -Tore out a man's tongue and cut off his hands to keep him from witnessing -Skinned a woman alive, stretched out the skin into a shroud, and wrapped the carcass in it -and more! If anyone ought to feel bad about character actions, it would probably be me. But it's all in the RP. You have to play the character. I suddenly feel glad your character is tucked safely on Gilgamesh, far away from my character.
  9. Well, to you. However, would you roleplay your character as finding them unattractive or not? Even if she is described as having those features, but also described as being "ugly". Would you make your character follow your/their beauty standards or the other roleplayer's? I would likely not acknowledge the physical description and have my character interact with them like any other character. Such descriptions are little more than flavor text as far as I'm concerned.
  10. I wouldn't go so far as to say that. If Tristan was the only one not tempered, then Ifrit wouldn't have been defeated that time and his commander would also not be there to give you quests. It's also stated in dialogue that the Immortal Flames have put down Ifrit on a near regular basis without the WoL's help, though not without significant losses on their part. This all implies that resisting the tempering process is not unheard of, though it is unlikely for the average person.
  11. Less of a threat, more of a promise. Primals that are prone to tempering (Ifrit, Garuda specifically) wouldn't hesitate to try and temper you as soon as you were presented or represented a threat. Its not always a promise. Individuals who don't possess the echo, but have exceptionally strong wills can resist the tempering process as evidenced by Tristan who fought Ifrit and wasn't tempered, but his weaker willed brother was.
  12. RPing a summoner is allowed. The Allagan art of summoning has recently been revived by the WoL and the Sharlayan scholar Y'mhitra. This implies that others could also be learning how to summon, though it would require them to seek out and defeat primals which holds the threat of being tempered for those that do not possess the Echo.
  13. This is simply a rhetorical question! What if you say that, but most of the role players they surround themselves with disagree? What if I describe my character as "repulsive" and then describe her as having flawless skin, bright blue eyes, plump lips, a symmetrical face, high cheekbones, with silky, long hair, etc. You know, "classically" attractive things... And then most of the audience sees them as beautiful instead? Could that statement still be supported, even when ICly it has been disproved? If its a rhetorical question, then you do not require an answer which defeats the purpose of asking for a discussion. I suppose it was more of a statement to defend my position, but take back the rhetorical part, what then? What if you say that, but most of the role players they surround themselves with disagree? What if I describe my character as "repulsive" and then describe her as having flawless skin, bright blue eyes, plump lips, a symmetrical face, high cheekbones, with silky, long hair, etc. You know, "classically" attractive things... And then most of the audience sees them as beautiful instead? Then people might assume you are not very good at creating a character as your description of her does not match the statement of her being "ugly."

  15. Perhaps a way around this would be to state something like "This character is considered to be ugly/beautiful by many people." This way, it implies that while others my think the character to be one thing, your character is free to have their own opinion based on their own tastes.
  16. As Berrod pointed out, it has been shown to exist, though it is likely only the very wealthy can afford this luxury. Otherwise, most people likely use chamber pots and get their water from public fountains, which was their original purpose during ancient times (in RL at least).
  17. I misread the title and thought it said "Berrod's Monkeyfights". I got all excited for reading about how Berrod trains by punching monkeys. Seriously though, this sounds like a good resource. I was considering creating a monk character, but the whole "chakra" thing makes little sense to me. I tried researching it, but I may as well have been trying to read a book on quantum physics in Chinese for all the good it did me.
  18. I know that. I was thinking about an Allagan manikin creator who grew fond of one of his creations and gave it a face and a mind, making it sentient, and keeping it for himself. Sounds legit to me. Maybe he lost his children or couldn't have any of his own so he made one using his knowledge of manikin making. I can see plenty of ways you could spin this. I say go for it.
  19. I thought the Demon Tome would say something like, "Feed me the lost souls of orphaned children...or cookies."
  20. I've only dated one person for a grand total of 2 whole weeks in my entire life. That lack of experience has translated into my RP so pretty much none of my characters are involved in romance.
  21. This sounds like a fun character. It seems the OP is good at cooking up interesting character concepts. (I couldn't resist)
  22. I don't really remember the Crystal Tower questline, but if you're referring to Doga and Unei, if I'm not mistaken they were clones, not robots. Also, while I don't remember anything about "mannequins", that reminds of the manikin enemies from Fractal Continuum. I think they're robots, but I'm not too sure (sadly due to the parties I get I never have time to read the guide plates in the dungeon to get some lore). Those might be what they were talking about. I also saw some people theorizing that the WoL is an Allagan manikin/mannequin whatever thingy. I may have just assumed that it was some kind of magical construct.
  23. In a MSQ discussion of Shiva, one of the characters stated that it would be physically impossible for an elezen (or any other playable race) to mate with a dragon. In addition, the biological differences are far to great for any offspring to be viable.
  24. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Allagans create artificial robot-like beings called "mannequins"? I think I heard about it on the official forums with two important characters from the crystal tower storyline being these types of beings. If that's the case, I don't see why the OP's character couldn't work from a lore standpoint. There would still be the issue of some people thinking the idea is Mary Sue-ish, but you can't please everyone.
  25. 1: What’s your OC’s biggest insecurity and how would they react if someone pointed it out to them? She has an inferiority complex in regards to her sister. If confronted, she would likely try to laugh it off, but would then begin to withdraw from the person who confronted her. 2: If your OC wants to buy a firearm, what it might be for? She bought one to try it our, but found it's power grossly underwhelming compared to what she could do with magic. 3: Does your OC behave differently around different people, if so with whom and how? For the most part she is the same with everyone, though when around her older sister, she becomes more self-conscious and awkward, as well as a bit more snarky. 4: Would your OC want to involve themselves in humanitarian work ? If yes, then for what? If not, then why not? She frequently does, using her magic to heal those for free who otherwise couldn't afford medical treatment. 5: How would your OC generally react to someone being verbally abusive towards them for no apparent reason? She would laugh it off and try to turn it around against the abusive person, but depending on what was said, would probably cry once she was alone. 6: Does your OC have a realistic image of their own intelligence? She is actually more intelligent than she gives herself credit for. 7: Does your OC have any irrational phobias? She has a sever phobia of insect larvae, especially grubs. 8: How is/was your OC’s relationship with their parents? For the most part its fine, but she largely feels she is unable to live up her family name. 9: Does your OC feel a pressure to achieve or are they content and calm with doing what they can at the moment? She would never admit it to others, but she has always felt like she was competing with her older sister in academic achievements. 10: Does your OC guard their emotions by being tough? If not how would they? Not so much with toughness. She uses humor to guard her emotions and rarely reveals what her true feelings are. 11: How would your OC react to hearing they’re adopted? She is adopted and she has known all her life. 12: What is one of the most primary things your OC feels that is missing from their life? Romance. She has never been in love and she sometimes resents the fact. She may be unconsciously defeating herself in this area, though. 13: What kind of situations does your OC avoid the most? She tries to avoid conflict which can't be solved with a well-placed spell. Even more than that, she tries desperately to avoid making her sister angry. 14: If your OC gets into a fight with their best friend, would they wait for their friend to make up with them, or would they try to make up with their friend? She doesn't really have any best friends, though if she did she would probably try to make up with them. She would be really clumsy at it. 15: Does your OC consider themselves a good person? She doesn't believe she is a bad person, but that doesn't really answer the question, does it? 16: Is your OC good at giving others validation of their feelings and making them feel understood? I have no idea. 17: Does your OC suffer of any mental health issues? Probably. She has an inferiority complex in regards to her sister and doesn't feel she has much value overall. 18: What kind of intrapersonal values does your OC have? (values about their self, what makes them feel like a valid person) Its something she struggles with. She feels useful to others when she is healing, but she never intended to grow up being a healer. 19: What boosts your OC’s confidence the most? Breaking new ground in her studies. 20: Does your OC hurt others often unintentionally? If yes, how? She can sometimes make others angry with her facetious nature. Otherwise, not that she is aware of. 21: Does your OC hurt others often intentionally? If yes, how? If combat counts, then yes. Otherwise, no. 22: How does your OC usually show affection? Are they openly romantic or more restricted with their affectionate emotions? When she wants to show affection for someone, she usually does something nice for them for no reason, like bake a treat or buy them a gift. She's not openly romantic and has never experienced romantic feelings. 23: Does your OC tend to hide something about their personality/essence when meeting new people? If yes, what? She is actually a very guarded person. She hides behind a veneer politeness and humor, rarely letting anyone know her true feelings. 24: How would your OC react if they got humiliated by someone in a group of people? She would laugh about it in public and maybe cry when alone. 25: How would your OC process the grief caused by the death of a loved one? It would be very difficult for her. Her veneer would likely crack and she would struggle to hide her feelings. She would be deeply depressed, but only build up her walls even more which would only make it more obvious. 26: What is the most intense thing your OC has been battling with? Nothing beyond what has already been stated. 27: Does your OC practise any kind of escapism? If yes, what kind? She likes to read and write dirty poetry. She hides it and would be very embarrassed if anyone found out. 28: How would your OC react if a bully stole their lunch money in high school? She would let them have it, but would find a way to sneak an ultra-powerful laxative into the bully's food or play some other, rather harmful joke on them. 29: How does your OC behave on the face of a conflict? With a facetious attitude hoping the conflict will end soon. 30: What makes your OC defensive quickest? Bringing up her relationship with her sister.
