I'm probably wrong but:

I think I remember seeing somewhere that saying a Highlander's mother was a Sea Wolf is considered to be an insult worth fighting over.

Your best bet is to level a character to 30 on another server. At this point, they are eligible for a transfer so long as you are not a member of a Free Company or don't have items for sale on the market.

[Spoilers] Dark Knights, Am I the Only One?
Sylentmana replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
I've seen far too many DRK players RPing as Guts wannabes. A person RPing as a voidsent warrior would be a nice change of pace, to be honest. -
Considering Sailor Saturn is Japanese I would assume that she wields a stylized naginata.

The new Jobclass sets - HQ images of them?
Sylentmana replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in FFXIV Discussion
They're bought with Esoteric tomestones at the vendor in Idyllshire. And how does one obtain those tomestones? I hope its not a raid thing since I can't really participate in those effectively. -
The new Jobclass sets - HQ images of them?

So how does one go about obtaining these sets? I can't seem to find a definitive answer. -
Things You Love, BUT Would Likely Never RP?
Sylentmana replied to 13uddy's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Truly evil characters. When I try they always come across a comical and not all that evil. -
Q'ilora has a somewhat dark sense of humor and often finds it funny when people get hurt doing things stupid things. Ryoko has a somewhat corny and dry sense of humor. For example: Friend: "So I heard there is a creature in the East Shroud called the Boring Weevil." Ryoko: "Maybe if he got a hobby he wouldn't be so boring." (Ba-dum tsh)

Any of my characters: "Marry me!" Me:".......Ok"

Here's how I've been treating it. From the beginning of the game to the start of 3.0 is roughly one year. The actual date is dependent on where a character is in the story. In this situation, each character kind of exists in different dates from one another, but I find this to be a fairly easy way of dealing with it.

I like characters with fuzzy tails. The cute ears help too.

Warrior of Light, Hydaelyn's Chosen, and Bringer of Light
Sylentmana replied to Melkire's topic in RP Discussion
I find that the best way to avoid these awkward clashes is to have two different versions of my character: one for public RP and one for solo, private RP which follows the game's story. This way I can enjoy the story and RP The Warrior of Light then switch gears if I feel like interacting with other RPers by having a version of my character that is less "special," for lack of a better term. -
Q'ilora has a crippling phobia of insect larvae. They just freak her out to the point of blind panic. You can imagine her reaction when she first came across a sand worm.

Does your Character aspire to be a Hero?
Sylentmana replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
Well, my most recent character Q'ilora is a weaver so I guess she aspires to be a hero of fashion and a defender of good taste. -
Slavery seems to exist in Eorzea but its considered to be illegal and slavers are considered to be the lowest of the low. That being said, there are only a few quests that actually deal with the issue, as far as I can remember. The Rogues Guild has a quest where you take down a group of slavers and the major story behind the Arcanists Guild is helping Assessor K'lyhia take down an infamous slaver who had been exiled from Limsa for his crimes. She was also a former slave and was heavily abused by this man.

Let's see: Makoto is very quiet and suffers social anxiety. As a result she prefers to be alone with her studies. While she puts on polite a demeanor and generally tries to adhere to socially acceptable behavior, her true self is short-tempered, impatient, foul-mouthed, selfish, and cynical. She's careful to never let others see this side of her, though.

What's something nobody expects your character to be/do?
Sylentmana replied to Unnamed Mercenary's topic in Fun Prompts
Makoto is the shy, quiet, mousy type who always tries to be polite. If others knew her true thoughts, however, they would see that she is actually quite foul-mouthed, impatient, and vindictive against those that cross her. However, her discomfort with other people causes her to try to avoid standing out so most people don't see her true self. -

Personally, I say as long as you have a convincing reason, then you can RP as any of the available jobs. I've come across people who RP as jobs that aren't even the game (yet) such as Red Mages/Mystic Knights/Fencers. If they can play as something that isn't even in the game, then RPing as something that is shouldn't even be a matter of debate. That being said, it was my understanding that a person doesn't actually need the approval of the elementals to use conjury or white magic. Gaining their approval simply makes it easier. After all, you often see people who would never gain the elementals approval using conjury (pirates in Limsa, Garleans, Amaal Ja). It doesn't seem like to far of a stretch that a person who is diligent in their studies of conjury or magic in general, could come across the methods in which to learn white magic. Having mained a conjurer/white mage before, it was my understanding that the elementals gave the padjal permission to teach me white magic. This implies that one could learn white magic without the elementals approval, but that person would risk their wrath within the Twelveswood. Finally, after looking into the subject and having played the black mage quests, I've come to the understanding that the only difference between a WTM and BLM is the method in which their aetheric energies are applied. Both are considered forbidden arts because both drained the aether from the land, they just shaped the energy differently. BLM also drained aether from the void as well as themselves and the surrounding area.

Sorry for the weird layout. I can't seem to figure out how to quote certain sections from a post like you did in your previous one. You make some good points, some of which I hadn't considered. The part about the Ninja with the glamour sounds really clever. I'll have to try that one myself sometime. As for the part with the voidsent, when you first mentioned it, I immediately thought of people RPing as on of those big demons with the wings and the claws and the flying. The idea of playing a voidsent possessing a person never crossed my mind. That was my mistake I can see how someone would be able to play that way. You make many other excellent points that I had not considered and I think it comes down to the fact that I failed to think outside of the box. Part of what you were talking about, the parts about glamour, is kind of what I'm arguing for. That's using the games mechanics as tool meant to enhance the RP experience instead of just ignoring it outright. That's why I didn't see a point in texting combat when you can just do it instead. I had not considered the fact some may be RPing a class that is not represented in the game (yet, at least) or that a low level character might actually be an extension of a higher level character from another server. Again, these would be examples of my own failures. However, the point I ultimately want to get across is this. All the things I have previously so clumsily argued for were meant to be an explanation of the views, limitations, and restrictions I placed upon my own character. While I understand that some may RP outside what is presented within the game, I prefer to play within and using the limitations the game has placed upon me. I get more enjoyment out of it that way, but I do not expect others to adhere to my self-imposed standards. I have not and would not derail another person's RP (doing so is just plain rude) just because they didn't create their character the same way I made mine or because their character doesn't operate under the same rules. I don't expect others to adhere to my own standards for playing my character. I also don't RP with others using meta knowledge (at least not on purpose). All of this is what I meant when I said it comes down to personal preference. I know I've forgotten to mention something or address another point, but I can't remember and this post has gotten very lengthy anyways. *Edit: This post was meant to address both Glioca's and Magellan's posts.*
