  1. My character roster is 6/8 male, 2/8 female at the moment, and I am a female IRL. It's the same as for the OP and some other people, I just find RPing men more comfortable and when it comes to creating characters, I often seem to hover towards males. To me RP is experiencing something completely different, so even if my female character happens to be a complete opposite of myself in personality, they usually feel too similar and I tend to lose interest in keeping them going, except some rare cases like with my two ladies. Perhaps it's also partly due to aesthetics, I just prefer to look at males more *shrug*. On the other hand I also tend to roll female characters in single player games or in MMOs I know I am not going to RP in... ...And I also play one of those "male characters with a female model", so it might throw the aesthetics-point out of the window a little. Feel free to call him a girl by mistake though! I will find it hilarious OOC, but he will get mad at you IC!
  2. I personally will most likely create an alt or two on the EU server to check things out, but won't move my characters off of Balmung. I have many friends on NA side who play on Balmung, and I don't want to be cut off from them, or the rest of the NA playerbase, let alone all the housing, RP-plots and stories my characters are part of on Balmung. Despite my ping going up by a lot I haven't seen any difference compared to the playability before the server move (around 200-220 ms from where I live now), so that isn't pushing me towards transferring either. I support having an EU RP server though, for those that do have problems with lag, and want to focus on RP side that is more around their timezone.
  3. Picked Other, since my main is both Mage and Academic, equally focusing on both for his hobby/career. Not that Otte is literally, always, my main, since my focus changes between my multiple characters.
  4. Otte is originally from the Vulture, and his version of the tribe is a tiny nomad group, wandering from place to place in Thanalan, following the herds of different prey as seasons change! I never realised to add more 'Vulture'-like lore to them, maybe I should've made them more scavengers... Like people have posted though, there is much personal lore players have added to their respective tribes, there is probably even large differences between tribes using the same name, so the best option is to just go with what makes sense to the character's background
  5. Ugh, too bad in Finland we start celebrating already on the 24th, so will be too busy the day before to attend any events! Such a lovely idea though
  6. Thanks for hosting the event! Had fun following the auctions, the chatter, as well as with the date after
  7. Me and Walking Oak wish you all a punny Happy New Year!
  8. I'm from Finland as well, and haven't had any problems running dungeons, raids etc on Balmung at all, though it might just be me being used to the slight latency and moving out of the AoEs in time or something. In any case, I'm in the same group as most of the others, that I'm not planning to transfer out of Balmung, because of my friends being here, and the server has been my home since the launch!
  9. I had fun as well! Was nice to dust off one of my alts and see how she talks with new people
  10. 1. I am terrified of RPing my favourite characters outside my group of friends, due to fear of being judged and getting a bad reputation inside the community. 2. I worry constantly about being 'boring' in RP, since I feel I'm really bad at creating interesting storylines, and that my characters aren't interesting enough to RP with. 3. There's many people I want to RP with, but not dare to ask because of points 1 and 2.
  11. Submitted a design...and then realised that the competition wasn't open for all EU countries. I wonder why that is? A little disappointed, but can't be helped
  12. Since I finally have a name and dozens of screenshots I wanted to post again! Milo Xura, a skittish shy Xaela male, and a runt of his tribe. Due to certain circumstances he ended up travelling with his brother and two other tribe-members to Eorzea, and living a couple of years under the glamour of a lalafel girl, Milolo Milo. Lacks self-confidence and believes himself inferior to his brother, despite having the talent and smarts when it comes to machines and tinkering in general. Has a soft spot for animals, especially chocobos, due to spending two year in Bentbranch, tending the birds there. Luvshan Xura, the lore-keeper of the clan, whose duty is to record the stories and knowledge of the elders, and to share them with the new younglings of the Xura clan. Blunt and serious, he doesn't hesitate to talk when someone isn't pulling their weight, and duty-bound enough to follow the great Xura Elder to Eorzea, in other to write down the wisdom he possesses.
  13. There was a males in Dancer-outfit bandwagon rolling about tumblr, so I decided to jump in! My poor Au ra Milo ended up being the victim. Also got a chance to do some personal lineart-work, though I like doing sketches and little paintings.
  14. I'm the type that creates the basic framework first, and then throws that character into the world to see what they end up building onto and under that frame! I usually only have a idea of what I want the character to be like, for example their base personality, still without the quirks or mannerisms. It might be just a concept of a "a quiet bookworm", "Tall scarred ex-nunh" etc. After that I put them into the world, start RPing them, and watch them grow in that enviroment. At that point I start wondering what made the character to act like they do, or react to certain things like they do, or why are they there, at that very moment. And that way I slowly build up their backstory! Sometimes the character even takes a completely different direction from what I was initially planning. Sometimes the backstory never gets shared and just works as a base, or a pool I can pull from when I imagine what's going on in my character's head. It depends how open the said character is, some of mine wouldn't talk about their past to anyone, others would be happy to talk when asked.
  15. Most of my characters are roughly inspired by alts I've played in other games, but I think Otte is the one that has evolved most of all. He started being partly based on my blood elf alt from WoW, having the same short stature and young looks. He was even going to be as happy and ditzy as his elven counterpart, but after rolling him as an Arcanist on launch, he ended up being more book-smart, and a little withdrawn and shy. During his time in the Traveller's guild and gaining some friends and confidence, he grew to be more serious than I expected, though also easily excited and even pushy. Pouting also came his signature move, and he still had childish streak. After certain circumstances he seemed to "grow up", and his old seriousness turned into plain grumpiness. He smiles rarely nowadays, and has grown jaded during his experiences. He also lost most of his shyness on the way, and doesn't hesitate voicing his opinions now. And he stopped wearing his tribal paint.
