It's a very pretty effect. I think it's my favorite looking one for tanks. And probably tied with SMN and BRD for favorite over all. I am stupid hype for leveling a DRK. These last two days are going to be so long. Haha, same.

Maybe for PLDs, but it looks like DRK and WAR will have damage attached to theirs. I don't think so. They're not going to attach damage to two tank-role limit breaks and not a third. This and the Cammy reveal for Street Fighter V were the two main things I love the most about E3 so far. Sadly, this means I need to get me a PS4 (I chose the XB1). Damn SFV being PS4 exclusive. As for FFVII, it's about goddamn time they did this!

I quite like the idea. It's actually something I like to make part of my RPG characters. For example, in World of Warcraft, my Blood Elf Warlock was heavily poisoned by fel magic, and to be able to contain it, he had these fel runes tattooed into his skin which would keep it at bay, helping him channelling the fel within him and keep control of it. I see no reason why something like this can't happen in FFXIV. Alot of the examples and info you guys provide definately makes it sound plausible. And if someone comes up to you and asks about the tattoos, you can just say it's because you think it looks cool. There's no reason to explain what they truly are for to every single person you meet.

For someone who claims people to be ignorant, I think you are clearly ignorant of IC/OOC boundaries. Racism is a real thing in Eorzea, heck, we see interracial couples spat upon and forced to move from their homelands in wanderer's palace. We see NPCs trashtalking other races constantly. There is nothing wrong with people being outright hostile. Of course it is still your choice if you wish to deal with it or not, but expecting a walk in the park, while unicorns skip around, the birds are whistling merry tunes and rainbows everywhere after rerolling au ra? Uhmmm. I would still expect a great deal of ignorance being flung your way of various levels. Just because people's char dislike yours for their looks, it does not mean they are angry racists OOC. It is roleplay. I stated in an earlier post that I am aware of the state of Eorzea and that I know the difference between IC and OOC. And as for ignorancy, to attack someone solely because of their race IS ignorant. Racism generally is. That doesn't change the fact that there are indeed people who are racist, homophobes and what not OOCly and brings their hatred ICly, using in-game situations as an excuse. I am not saying everyone does so, I am saying that it is indeed something that happens. It is also each individual's prerogative to play the game as they see fit, as long they follow the rules set by Square Enix, the rules each and every one of us have agreed to when we joined the game. And every individual can RP the way they want, but it is also my prerogative to NOT RP with people who I don't want to RP with. And if some idiot comes up to my character ICly and wants to kill him JUST BECAUSE HE IS AN AU RA, then I can choose whether or not I want to participate in said RP. And honestly, no, I don't want to RP with people like that. No one is going to force anything on me that I don't agree with. And if you have a problem with that, then it is YOUR problem, not mine. ^^

I'm not a fan of the whole "I was an Au Ra all along!" idea. I'll change my main to an Au Ra, but ICly he will leave Eorzea for good and my Au Ra will be a whole new character. It will be the same toon OOCly, but ICly it won't be the same guy. But what people do with their characters are up to themselves.

I'm just not going to RP with you then. ^^

I have a very unpopular and un-hipster way of seeing these things... just because it is classic doesn't mean it is good, or even fitting. The Moogles look so out of place in the world of FFXIV, imo. It's alright in a game like Kingdom Hearts where it's all about being toony... I mean, it's FF mixed with Disney. But I don't think it fits in Eorzea.

This has been a very informative thread. Since it is a fantasy world, I've always taken the whole "guns and bullets" thing rather light-heartedly. I can imagine normal civilians would have trouble surviving a bullet, but if yur character wears some good armour or have some awesome skills or magic, avoiding being hit by a bullet shouldn't be that much of a problem. I mean, if a real-life samurai was/is able to avoid a bullet and cut it in half with his katana, I don't see why something like that can't happen in a fantasy setting.

Speaking of Moogles... I really hate how the Moogles look like in FFXIV. They look too toony! I really much prefer the FF12 look for Moogles where they actually look like sentient beings and not stuffed toys.

I was in and played a blood elf as well, and every day the /trade channel was spammed with "Blood Elf f#ggots!" and the like, not to mention those who went to Silvermoon, JUST to annoy people RP'ing there by jumping around and dancing on top of people with their bulky armour and the enlargement potions (talking about overcompensating for something, huh. ;P ). Bullying online, also in MMO's, is a real thing. That said, I've found the FFXIV RP community mostly acceptive and friendly towards me as a gay guy RP'ing gay characters, and I love it for that. FFXIV has been the most enjoyable MMO to RP in because of that. However, that doesn't mean that there aren't people who do have some sort of personal problem with it and have indeed taken it out on me - people I have never interacted with before suddenly coming up to me and harrassing me. And when I addressed the person in /tell asking why, the hatred was really shining through every word he said. Blacklisted and reported. I can RP with IC racists, homophobes and whatever. I can distinguish between IC and OOC, and I have had some awesome friendships with people OOCly whose characters conflict with my own, because the conflict is kept purely ICly. Not everyone are as open-minded and acceptive, and as you said earlier, the very world of FFXIV reflects that as well. But I will not allow it to disrupt my enjoyment of the game. If there are people who's RP I don't agree with, then I just don't RP with those people. I will absolutely not enforce my views on someone and harrass them about it, and I don't wish for others to do so onto me either. Was that on the European role-playing servers by chance? I played on Argent Dawn. I wouldn't say it was a 'nice' server (it had more than a few problems) but most people took a pretty firm stance against blatant cases of OOC discrimination leaking into IC interaction. Yup, European here. ^^ I was on Argent Dawn as well for a time, but not for very long. Had already taken a couple of years break from WoW, returned to see The Sha'tar server was pretty much abandoned and everyone gathered on Argent Dawn, so I transferred as well. However, after a short while I was reminded why I took a break in the first place and just stopped playing after that. The WoW RP community was rather elitist and people were generally not very acceptive of one another, was my experience while being there. I was lucky to find a group of friends to RP with. Hence why I was so surprised of how welcoming and open the FFXIV RP community has been when I joined here. ^^

If people can RP about it maturely and tastefully, like Graeham describes above, then it can become interesting RP. An idea would be to send a /tell to the other part, saying something like "This isn't personal, my character just really hates Lalas due to past experiences. I hope that's alright." to reassure the other part that it is indeed not personal and it is indeed only IC. And if the other part doesn't think it is alright, then just don't RP with eachother. Simple as that. However, there are indeed those people who IRL are racists or homophobes, who take that hatred into IC and who DO make it personal and who uses in-game as an excuse for their hatred. And that is just not alright. As I said above, it depends on your reason for your character to hate and discriminate a group of people. If you encounter someone who doesn't find your IC hatred towards them alright, even if it is completely IC, then simply don't RP with them. If that person asks you to stop addressing them, and you still keep doing so, then that is harrassment and THEN you should be blacklisted and reported. As long you respect people's boundaries, then there shouldn't be a problem. ^^

It has story potential. The need to prove yourself to people who fundamentally suspect or dislike you. Being misunderstood/distrusted and having to win the trust of those around you. As Seriphyn pointed out, not everyone will welcome this kind of conflict but many people will see it as the beginning of an interesting story. What is there to prove? Au Ra were born like that, it's not their problem to begin with. Racial tension is one thing, sure. It's there in the game (and much more tasteful in comparison), but lets be honest; a lot of this is just a glorified excuse to bring OOC feelings about Au Ra design into RP just like with the Miqo'te before them. It's going to burn bridges, not build them. Besides, it's insulting and disrespectful to those of us that actually have to deal with being a minority. I get enough harassment in real-life as-is; I certainly don't need any of it here, not when I'm trying my hardest to escape from my worldly woes for at least an hour or two. Edit: For the record, I'm fine with fictionalized conflict, but only when it's actually justified. This isn't. This. So much this. It's typical for people who hates something to bring it into IC as well. The hatred I see in this thread towards the Au Ra definately appears to be the reason why these people tries to spin it into IC reasons. However, WE can decide what RP WE want to be part of. If people harrasses you online, put them on the blacklist and post a ticket if it continues there after.
