The navigation button for "Wiki" has been altered. The link will now lead you to the new wiki and also drop down to give an option to navigation to the old wiki. In this manner, it'll be easy to transfer information from one to the other. Some important notes: 1. The new wiki does have a slightly different color scheme, which is still being tweaked here and there. As such, some of the text colors used in your profile may also need to be changed. 2. A word about transferring data: ALL lore pages need transferred (bestiary, races, religion, locations, etc). This is a prime opportunity to not only add/modify to our already extensive lore database, but to also add pictures that have been lacking for some time now. In regards to transferring characters: Please only transfer characters who you've actually heard of. Characters that have vanished and/or have never been heard of by anyone are most likely creations of players who have long since quit the game. The new wiki will be a good way to cleanup characters. 3. Login information is still identical to your forum login info. 4. Please report any bugs/missing features.

Wiki is about complete and ready for transferring stuff. It may be ready as early as tomorrow. What I plan to do is change the wiki link up in the navigation bar to the new wiki, while adding a sublink below it to the old/current wiki. In this way, people can easily access their stuff and transfer/help transfer pages over before ARR. I've installed all templates (info boxes, etc), merged the user database with the forums, and have other basic things done. Image-wise, I'm going to keep the general same look as the present wiki. I don't want it to be too image heavy and people keep saying that they like the way it looks as is. I'll consider making more tweaks (new banner, tweaks to colors, etc). We've done the book thing in the past and while it looks snazzy, it was quite cumbersome. You can actually see the old site layout still here: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/old (warning: none of the links work there anymore). The new wiki is mostly up-to-date now after 2 years of lagging behind. I also plan to overhaul the front page to include a lot more links. I'll make another announcement tomorrow or Monday when it's ready to go live. I'd appreciate any help in transferring pages over (all it requires is copy/pasting).

As some noticed, the wiki was down all day today due to my own silliness. It's back up, though it required a rollback to Sept 8th. So any edits made by Gerik and Aysun (possibly Blade) are null and void and need to be readded. Reeeeally sorry about that ><. It costs me 15 bucks to get it back up as well, which now has me hesitating to try updating the version a second go. I don't want this to keep happening. The wiki version is extremely outdated (not being updated for 2 yrs) and that's why it's very difficult to update. I'm contemplating my options going forward with the wiki now. I'm considering either leaving it as is or starting a brand new upgraded wiki and then transferring all the content over to it (no easy feat). If we do go the new wiki option, it'll be a bit time consuming to transfer everything over. But it'll also clean up a very congested database as well. Should we go this route, I may consider overhauling the entire appearance of the wiki while doing so. In that instance, does anyone have any suggestions as to what they want it to look like (colors, layout, etc)? Or just keep it all the same?

I'm working on a to-do list for the RPC before ARR launches. Most of this won't launch for another month or so but I'm trying to organize it all right now. If you have any suggestions for the site (forum sections, features, etc), please don't hesitate to suggest them. I can't guarantee that I'll be able to implement what's requested but I'll at least give it consideration. As of now, here's what I'm working on: --Updating forum to latest version. --Updating wiki to latest version (it's presently WAAAAY behind). --Updating gallery with fixes and the like. --Updating classifieds section with fixes. --Merging calendar widget on forum page with calendar widget on home page. --Overhauling and cleanup of Directory forum section. --Redesign of background image, logo/header area, and possible adjustments to colors (specifically the green) as a result. --Cleanup of Archives section. --Continue to improve user interface of wiki. --Possible creation of a linkshell teaser site, similar to the one of the past.

According to this, the time jump is only 5 years. I'm sure if people want to ignore the time travel concept, they could easily stay behind as a survivor and tweak their character's age slightly to even things out (or even add 5 years to their character, depending on their individual plans). http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/thre ... post809991

((OOC: The following thread is open for all to post in. The purpose is to simply show how different characters are dealing with the Dalamud/Garlean crisis. This is NOT an interactive RP session. There should only be one post per character's viewpoint, though you are free to post multiple characters' viewpoints in different posts. Just thought it would be interesting for people to see how different characters around Eorzea are dealing with this apocalyptic stress ^^. This can also help serve as a 'prelude' of sorts to the final RP community event of 1.0. )) The red moon, Dalamud, hung over the sky in all of its ominous glory as people went about their daily lives, some occasionally taking their gaze to the heavens with a brief look of dread. A woman dressed in upper-class priestly robes gracefully made her way down the Ishgard street, paying no heed to the nearby small group of citizens gazing up at the sky whilst chatting amongst themselves about the doom that would likely come from the red orb above. The priestess soon entered the back gate to a small playground attached to an orphanage. The hyur woman removed her hood to reveal her jet black hair. She appeared in her late thirties, though her wisdom-filled eyes would lead many to believe she was slightly older than even that. Her gaze shifted to a corner of the small playground where several small children were huddled together. Smiling softly to herself, the woman made her way toward them. One of the children, a small girl, was first to notice the priestess. âLady Nefron is here!â The children quickly turned in excitement as Nefron approached them. âHello, children. How are you all?â A small red-headed boy quickly spoke up first. âZeni overheard some of the adults talking earlier! They said that that big red thing in the sky was going to kill us all! Is that true Miss Nefron?! We donât want to die!â The children gazed intently at the priestess as a deep frown marked her face. Sighing softly, Nefron slowly dropped to her knees to meet the gaze of the children. âThe adults are scared of something they donât fully understand yet, that is all. And what have I always told you about being scared of something?â A chubby brunette hyur girl spoke up quickly. âWhen frightened, we should always have faith in ourselves and in the Twelve! Because if we can do that, a miracle can save us!â Nefron smiled at the girl. âIndeed. And if the adults are having trouble keeping the faith, then perhaps itâs up to you all to do so on their behalf.â âYeah!â The red-haired boy shouted in excitement. âI still have to become a powerful dragon slayer after all! No big floating rock is gonna beat us down!â Nefron smiled warmly as the other children cheered their friend on. âThatâs the spirit. Remember, we dream of things so that those dreams can someday become reality. And every single one of you still have so many dreams to bring to life. So run along now and show the adults that even should their faith fail, yours will be ever-lasting.â âLetâs go pray to Halone for the adults!â A small blond elezen boy shouted enthusiastically. âSheâs so strong that she can easily slice the big meteor in half! Then weâll go around and tell the adults what weâre doing for them!â The boy ran off as the other children eagerly followed. Nefron watched the children scurry off on their new mission, a warm smile crossing her lips. The voice behind her startled her back to reality almost instantly. âLady Felstar, your husband was looking for you.â Nefron rose to her feet once again, glancing at the armored knight. âThank you. Please tell Cartius that Iâll be at the manor shortly. I need to speak to him about something after all.â The knight nodded before turning to leave the orphanage playground. Nefron turned her gaze to the sky at the huge red ball hovering above. A hint of sadness crept over her as her fingers encircled the crystal pendant around her neck. She didnât tell the children, but even she had a hard time believing that faith alone would be enough to save everyone.

Alpha Testing signup is now underway. It consists primarily of server stress tests so gameplay will be extremely limited during these phases. To learn more or signup, go here: http://entry.ffxiv.com/alpha/index_na.html A new trailer is also viewable below: In addition, you can find a slew of new screenshots/artwork here (note: after clicking the image links in this linked thread, you must go up to the url and click enter to get past the "forbidden access" error message...will update this link when another is made available): http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/53197-Full-HD-New-Trailer-and-Pics-here

The 35th Letter from the Producer has been released and can be found in full detail here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/53080 To sum up, the alpha test will begin shortly (Phase 1 being Japanese only, Phase 2 going international). The alpha will largely be restricted to server stress testing and most content will be unavailable. The final "save maintenance" for characters will be November 1st. That means that all character data (levels, achievements, etc) will be saved on that day. Anything achieved after that will not transfer with your character. The 1.0 servers themselves are scheduled to go down for good November 11th. That means between Nov 2-10, the only thing we'll be able to do is RP! (And I'm planning a little "final" event that will hopefully be embraced by enough of you and help you create the ultimate cliffhanger for any character who attends).

This topic of discussion has come up more than once over the past year or so. The problem really isn't the number of events either. We can have a constant slew of public events and the same people would be the ones to come out every time. A number of RPers have created a bubble for themselves within their individual shells. Popping those bubbles are near impossible, as I've personally tried multiple times myself. A lot of Rpers, for whatever reason, are perfectly content having little or nothing to do with the larger community at whole and we can't really change their minds about that. People will also get bored with the same old type of events all the time (hence the reaction to the bar scene). Inclusive storylines are much more needed, hence the public events centering around House Mavanix. Despite the same people coming out to said events, the events were largely a success in helping new people meet each other and putting them into dangerous situations together while giving room for individual character growth. I'm not going to keep being the one coming up with large-scale storylines like that though. I gotta focus on my individual characters from time to time after all  Overall, a weekly/bi-weekly social gathering like a tavern event would be nice. But just don't expect to see too many new faces and expect the atmosphere to become stagnant after the first couple times. The real issue at the heart of the RP community sadly can't be fixed by most of us. And the people who can fix it either don't pay attention to these forums or don't feel that anything needs fixed, so we're at a standstill.

As we move closer to the launch of A Realm Reborn, the site will undergo several more tweaks and modifications. Among these include the much needed cleanup of the Archives and Directory forum sections. Archives: This forum section will likely be entirely purged. I will be adding new coding to this section that will setup the topic title as a direct link to one's wiki profile. Thus, all character profiles will be centralized entirely on the wiki database and the forum section will simply act as a table of contents to that. If you have any trouble utilizing the wiki to create your character's page, feel free to contact me in game or via PM. I completely understand that wikis can be somewhat intimidating and hard to understand for first-time users. Please backup any relevant info you have posted in the Archives section prior to the purge/overhaul. You are also encouraged to update your wiki profile prior to the launch of A Realm Reborn so that interested newcomers have an easier time with integration into possible pre-existing storylines/characters and such. Directory: This section will be purged of anyone who is perceived to be "inactive." I will begin tagging which ones I perceive as such within a couple weeks. Should I tag your topic with a response, please reply in some manner to indicate that you are still an active player of the game and RP community. Any "active" players will not have their topics purged, though you are encouraged to update your information before A Realm Reborn launches. Wiki: Everyone is encouraged to update their profiles but I also wish to seek help updating all of the lore related listings as well. Whether it includes text addition/modification, picture adding/editing, or addition of new lore related topics (there are still a LOT of red links for areas and bestiary), any help would be appreciated. Characters on the wiki that are hardly filled out and are still nothing more than a stub will be deleted if they haven't been active in the past 3-6 months. An example of such a profile: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/i ... i_Duvignau As a safety precaution, please remove the "stub" category from your wiki profile. As of now, all of these are tagged as "stubs:" http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/i ... acter_Stub Should you have any questions or concerns, feel free to respond here as always

http://www.destructoid.com/destructoid-s-gamescom-community-choice-award-winner-233495.phtml As per the link, FFXIV: A Realm Reborn has won the Gamescon Community Choice Award at the Destructoid gaming media site. Woot! Congrats to FFXIV! Things are finally looking up. And it won by THREE times the votes of the runner-up!

Don't do it! Leanna is actually a cold-hearted, diabolical and murderous lalafell who has a fetish for burying corpses under the Corvus Cinis headquarters. Welcome to the community. If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to send a tell to me or any other RPer ^^
-
Through a coding standpoint, yes it is easily possible. It may seem somewhat out of place though. If people want the link on threads like it is on the board index, I can add it though.

We also have the rule and off topic codes ^^. The rule code is the on the middle line of buttons. It's the horizontal line icon. [offtopic]The off topic icon is on the third line. Icon is the yellow bubble with quotes in it.[/offtopic] Lists work as well, though they're a bit confusing in usage. Item one here Item two here

Item one here
Item two here
Yes, Balmung is the unofficial RP server. Whether that changes or not post 2.0 remains unclear, as SE has stated that it would release an official RP server at that time. At this moment, there are really only 4 active Rp shells left. The rest have quietly gone inactive and/or are contemplating their plans for 2.0. I'm sure more will present themselves closer to that point. At this point in time though, there really aren't enough active RPers to divide amongst more than 4-5 shells so it's probably for the best. If you're referring to the myriad of linkshells with "inactive" or "disbanded" next to their names in the Guild Hall, those shells died out some time ago due to leaders/members quitting the game or being unable to devote themselves to the shell. Unlike most other RP coalitions for other MMOs, we actually try our best to keep the list constantly updated so new RPers don't waste time/energy investigating shells that no longer even exist. Again, activity is bound to pick up again with the relaunch. Right now is the calm before the storm.

There already is an indent code . Third line of text editor, 2nd icon from the left. One of the RPC upgrades from awhile ago drastically increased the number of BBCodes by introducing the new text editor. We have more BBCodes now than most sites, including Enjin. I'm not sure what 'edit' and 'rule' are though. Care to elaborate more on that?

Some of the same scenes from the first video, but it's still a new video nonetheless!
-
Yeah, the only four presently active RP shells include TALE, Everwatch, Corvus Cinis, and Shimmersong. The rest have mostly gone deadly quiet at the time being. Due to the current lack of a large pool of RPers to pull from, this isn't that surprising. So you may want to look at one of those for the time being. Welcome to the community and FFXIV!

A Realm Reborn, and it's effect on 1.0 characters.
Kylin replied to Merri's topic in RP Discussion
Not a big fan of how they're seemingly planning this transition. Time travel and RP is always a difficult subject. I wasn't even too big of a fan of FFXI's Wings of the Goddess premise because of it. This is particularly difficult for people who have multiple important NPCs in their storyline. I mean, I just established Cartius (Ky's dad) as a powerful villain to name one example. When it comes to said NPCs, I see only 3 options: 1. Kill them off in the disaster. 2. Have them survive the disaster, but fast-forward 10/20/however many years SE designates into the future, essentially adding that many years instantly to their age. (I made all my NPCs a certain age for a reason...) 3. Find a workaround to have all said NPCs teleported through time with me. All options have glaring issues and can horribly impact storylines. I'm willing to see how it plays out and go with the flow, but by the looks of it, I'll be forced to go with option 3. Which just comes off as super cheesy. So after the transition, I won't ever be mentioning said transition ever again in RP and will just try to move past it somehow >.>. -

Not the pretty boy face I envision but you did such a good job on his bottom and Gerik's muscles that I shall let it pass. This time.
