Square Enix has recently revealed some new games (largely based around Final Fantasy) for 2011 release. Since nobody has posted it yet, here's a quick review of the event's announcements (copy/pasted from Eorzeapedia). Trailer for FF13-2 (in Japanese)--note that it starts with the ending of FF13 so if you haven't beat it yet, be warned of the spoiler: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvZFmOhnA1s&feature=player_embedded#! More info is probably buried in the live coverage here: http://www.andriasang.com//e/blog/2011/ ... live_blog

The following have been added to the Epic Committee group and now have access to the Chamber of Fate section: Alona, Seraphine, Zeah, and Jinxsy. EDIT: Added Rain. If I missed someone, please let me know. A to-do list and structure proposal has been posted in the section for review. Upon the committee's editing (if any) and approval, the Epic structure will be posted in the Headlines section. We will then dive into the storyline, rules, and other necessities. Projected time of the RPC's first Epic is mid-February. This is subject to change if the planning takes longer.

Thought I'd make a thread since some of us were just talking about this in AIM. As some may be aware, the rules of the zodiac signs are supposedly changing. Apparently, Earth's tilt and whatnot has caused a shift in zodiac alignment. You can read the story here, along with what your new zodiac sign may be: http://www.kidglue.com/2011/01/13/zodia ... -new-list FYI, mine didn't change

Deadline for committee signups is fast approaching! I only have 2 volunteers so far, which means this is gonna be rough (though not impossible). Again, the committee members essentially plan the entire plot, the in game events and scheduling, and they help control "NPCs" for the in game events when needed. On January 15th, I'll be posting a rough draft of Epic details in the new Chamber of Fate section. The committee will look it over, make suggestions for changes, and then it'll be revealed for all to see. The post will only contain the structure of the Epic, not the actual content. The content will be discussed by the committee and will likely take about a month to hammer out.
-
Welcome to the RPC! The signatures actually come from Enjin. You can create one here: http://www.enjin.com/tools/ffxiv-signatures You need to register an account though to get the code for it I believe.

Just found a mini-glitch and thought I'd share real quick. If you have issues logging in through the forum quick login box, scroll to the very bottom of the forums and click the "delete all board cookies" link. The site integration process required changes to the cookie settings and so that mayaffect your login attempts. Edit: If that still doesn't work, you'll need to delete cookies within your actual browser. Under "tools" >> "options" >> "privacy" (for Firefox), click "show cookies." Then find ffxiv-roleplayers.com in the list and delete the entire folder.
-
[align=center][/align] RPC Update Notes EDIT: If you have login issues, you'll need to delete all board cookies. Do this by clicking on the link at the bottom of the forums AND at the bottom of the home page where it says "delete all board cookies." If the problem persists, you'll need to delete the cookies via your browser under "tools," "options," "privacy," "cookies." Find the ffxiv-roleplayers.com folder and delete it. Please refresh your browser before doing anything else! To do this, simply click somewhere on this page, right-click, and select "refresh" or "reload" or whatever your browser calls it. You may have to hit refresh/reload 2-3 separate times (on several different pages). If you still have graphical issues after this, please shut down your browser completely and reopen it. Wait about 3 minutes or so and refresh again. This update has been tested on all major browser versions and is working as intended. Overall Site: :chocobo: A new background has been added to the forums, spicing up our image now that the book theme is being abandoned. Various other backgrounds and colors have changed as a result. Thanks goes to Zeah for helping prepare the background! Please note that if you use a larger screen resolution, the images may not extend all the way to the bottom like they should. :chocobo: Portal/news page has been moved to the main page of the RPC, completely replacing the book welcome page. The link http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com will now immediately take you to the portal/news and, by extension, the forums. Be sure to update your bookmarks if you wish to see the news page every time you visit. :chocobo: The Info section of the site has been integrated into the forum database. It can be accessed under the Home tab (Info subsection). Please note that navigating between this section and the forums will automatically log you out at this time. I will be looking into the fix for this ASAP (as I already know where to find the fix). :chocobo: The Lore section has been integrated into the forum database. It can be reached by simply clicking on the Lore tab. This serves as a sort of âtable of contentsâ to RPC projects, though each can also be accessed by bypassing the Lore page and using the drop-down menu instead. Please note that navigating between this section and the forums will automatically log you out at this time. I will be looking into the fix for this ASAP (as I already know where to find the fix). :chocobo: Advanced statistics widget on the main page was removed. :chocobo: Music widget added to the main page. I will try to change the music once a month to something new and it will usually be FF related. The current theme is none other than the FF14 theme song, Answers by Susan Calloway. If anyone is musically inclined and wishes to create their own remixes of certain FF music, Iâd be happy to consider posting it on the main page. :chocobo: In addition to the music widget, you are all also now able to add music into your posts. If you have the link to the mp3, simply post the link and surround it with the new mp3 button. Additionally, you are now able to upload mp3 files as attachments to posts. Keep in mind that the upload process for this is somewhat slow (mp3 files are usually large) and may take a couple minutes so donât navigate away from your page until the attachment upload is finished. Mp3 files will play on our server-side mp3 player. Please note that the mp3 player is unusually small right now. I had to resize it via coding in order for it to fit on the main pageâs widget. In order for it to be better looking, I still need someone able to convert an swf file to fla and change the length that way. Otherwise, there's nothing else I can do. :chocobo: Posting editor has received a massive overhaul, allowing for tons of new possibilities in forum posts. To name a few, you can now add YouTube videos to posts, hide certain text from unregistered guests, utilize various fonts in your posts, and much much more! For a full list of features and walkthroughs, please see this newly added FAQ section: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum/abbcode_page.php?mode=help Feel free to use this thread to test any and all of the new posting features. Further tweaks may end up being made to the button colors and placement. :chocobo: The RPC member list now has a new "Linkshell" column that displays a user's primary linkshell. You may now sort the member list by linkshell as a result. To edit your linkshell alignment, simply go to the user control panel and change it under the profile tab. Please keep in mind that those without a defined LS will be listed first when sorted and thus, you'll have to click the sort feature twice and view members' LS alignment in backwards alphabetical order. :chocobo: The LS directory has been integrated into the forum database. Clicking the Linkshells tab will take you there. You are also now able to sort linkshells by any category (RP style, name, server, etc). Simply click the header title (such as RP Style) and the list will sort itself alphabetically by that category. Feel free to make any suggestions as to how the chart should be modified or added to (such as new categories, etc). Please note that navigating between this section and the forums will automatically log you out at this time. I will be looking into the fix for this ASAP (as I already know where to find the fix). :chocobo: The book theme of the RPC site is now completely offline. It will be reused and altered in the near future to record IC happenings such as the Epic and Eorzean Olympics. All sections of the site (excluding the wiki and Lantern of course) are now under a single database and can be accessed using the tabs around the banner. :chocobo: The forums will now auto-size posted pictures so they no longer extend off the page and are unable to be seen. You can enlarge the pictures by clicking on the black header bar on each resized picture. :chocobo: Stickies, namely the Directory index, have been updated. The Character List sticky was originally on my to-do list as well but it was too chaotic and I didn't know where to start. :chocobo: Journalist group has been added to. Jakky, Eternal Darkness, Sadiya, and Alona are among the first added. More can and will likely be added in the near future. The next issue of the Tonberry's Lantern will soon start development and is estimated to be ready by early to late March. :chocobo: The Chamber of Fate section has been added to the forums. Only the Epic Committee will have access to this and planning will begin sometime around January 15th, so please let me know if you wish to be on the committee before then! :chocobo: Gallery section has been added to the site. It can be accessed via a new tab up above the site logo. Feel free to upload images of past and future RPC events in the RPC Events album. You can also create your own personal album by going to your profile and clicking on the new "Gallery" tab there. You are also free to make comments/posts on pictures. The Gallery supports viewing pictures as slideshows, picture contests, and more! Also, I may eventually move the gallery to a different section of the server (ffxiv-roleplayers.com/gallery instead of ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum/gallery). If this happens, it will not affect any uploaded pictures but it will break bookmarks if anyone bookmarks the Gallery. :chocobo: In order to avoid future confusion with the new gallery, the Gallery forum section has been renamed "Artisan House." :chocobo: Links have been added to the links widget on the main page. :chocobo: New security measures have been taken to help better fight off spam bots. :chocobo: Other minor miscellaneous tweaks were made. Coming Soon: --Facebook style update system has been postponed. It will come in its own individual update ASAP. The phpbb team is working hard on creating a completely updated version of the Social Network mod and I'd like to make sure we have the new version. It's apparently about 90% complete so the wait shouldn't be long now. This mod not only allows one to post and comment on status updates for each user, but it also has a blog feature that may/may not be utilized. --A new moderator was expected to be added by now. However, the chosen candidate has yet to respond to me after 8 days now, thus putting us back where we were in terms of mods. --The wiki will become a huge focal point now. A banner and new navigation systems will be set up. These announcements will be made independently in the Scribe Chambers as they come. Content within the wiki will also be greatly expanded upon hopefully. Another possibility includes the integration of the forum user accounts and the wiki user accounts, merging accounts between each database. This would disable registration on the wiki though and to edit it, people would first have to register on these forums (though that shouldn't be a problem). --An etiquette page may be added to the database with various new topics included. --A character list modification is being looked into. This would allow you to register all of your characters under your profile so people know who you are in game. It can also list ranks and so on. --If you have suggestions for tweaks, future additions, or anything else, please post them! All updates/tweaks now will come as they're ready and may/may not be announced. PS: This update required a tremendous amount of coding changes. Thus, there may very well be glitches, wrong colors, border issues, etc. If you see any, please let me know by posting here. I can't possibly test every single little thing, though I tried. More unannounced tweaks may come in time, as I'm already aware of little things I need to fix. PSS: Have I mentioned how much I hate Chrome? >.>

Update will be coming either Thursday or Friday. It depends on my work schedule. I won't state a specific time frame since I don't know. You'll know when you see the message though . Forums and site will be down probably at least 3 hours. This update will bring in new features, improvements to the overall look of the forum, site integration, and other tweaks. I won't reveal much yet, but it is far bigger than the last one. All sections of the site will be unavailable during the downtime (save for the wiki and Lantern). Remember to refresh your browser right after the update once you visit the site!

Welcome back! They always come back. Eventually. ::Maniacal laughter:: >.> :chocobo:

::Pushes a button, allowing millions of balloons and confetti to fall out from the ceiling:: I don't have any new smilies to add for this milestone. Sorry >.>; But the super big update is coming sometime this week. :cheer:

A New Year and FINAL FANTASY XIV Player's Poll the First (1/
Kylin replied to Merri's topic in FFXIV News
I went with more content, more mini-quests, and yes to the "nuclear" option. I really hope Auction House doesn't get too much attention. That should be on the lower end of priorities right now. It certainly won't keep people playing if there's still nothing to do >.>. But people have cried about it for so long, they'll probably choose that option over more significant choices. The current ward system is now much more manageable anyway, despite maybe needing some tweaking. -
Just wanted to make an official happy new year thread. Hope everyone has a fun (and safe) holiday. Here's to a hopefully great 2011! :cheer:
-
Okay! Two of the super big updates have been successfully installed. That's 3 hours of downtime eliminated from update day >.>. You may notice little new things here and there but pay them no heed for now. Nobody has permissions to use anything yet anyway. I still have to do some tweaking and then I'll activate the stuff on update day. If you stumble across any error messages and/or glitches, please report them here ASAP with your browser and the error message and/or specifics. Thanks!

On Friday, there will be a preparation update. No major changes will be made available for the public during this and it is mostly just meant for preparations for the upcoming update. The amount of coding for the next update is going to be a nightmare and I'd rather the forums not be down for 6 hours or more as a result. So instead, I'll get some of the stuff out of the way on Friday. Forums (and only the forums) will be unavailable at the following time: December 31st (Friday) at Noon (Eastern), 9am (Pacific), 5pm (GMT). Downtime estimated to be approximately 60-90 minutes. The actual update is still pending. I was hoping to have it ready by the 1st, but it really depends on how long it takes to get the background and colors ready. An announcement will be made when a definite date is known. The actual update, when ready, will last approximately 3-4 hours. It will add various features, change certain appearances regarding the forum, make various tweaks to widgets and whatnot, and (hopefully) completely integrate all sections of the site into one central database (excluding wiki and Lantern). I will issue this reminder at the time of the update announcement and again after the update: Be sure to refresh your browser immediately following the update. Also, ALL sections of the site (excluding wiki and Lantern) will be unavailable during that downtime.

With the festive spirit of the Starlight Celebration still lingering in the air, the nations of Eorzea have already set about making ready for the next grand holidayâHeavensturn. Heavensturn is a celebration that marks the passing of the twelve moons in the night sky, and with them, the vigil of each of the Twelve over the realm. It is on this sacred day that one among the gods wins celestial favor, and whose aspect thus exerts the greatest influence over the fate of Eorzea throughout the coming year. Clergymen, soothsayers, shamans, and others versed in such matters foretell that with this turning, the time of Halone, the Fury, will come. Yet despite this annual significance, a strange and powerful gift, newly come to Eorzea from a faraway land, has begun to divert the attention and admiration of people across the realm, both smallfolk and adventurer alike. Said to be a principle element in the celebration of Heavensturn in the Far East, it is a mighty helm masterfully spellforged in the likeness of a rabbit. Adorable to some, atrocious to others, and appealing to adventurers for its attractive attributes, this rare, leporine headpiece may prove attainable by those with festive proclivities. Articles and machines of war seen throughout the land with unprecedented frequency... Halone, the Fury, goddess of strife and struggle, poised to impose her will on the world of man... What fate lies in store for Eorzea in the coming year...? Dates & Times Approx. 7:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31st, 2010 to approx. 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 (PST) See the Lodestone for more details: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=cabbeb00d358e4094dd880f6cc81f7fd70c658e3

I just tested it in various browsers (19 different versions to be exact). It's working fine on all major browsers, save for slow image loading on some such as Safari. Just hit the refresh/reload button when on the site. Your browser is likely trying to load just the old files and needs a little kick to start loading the new ones If that still doesn't work, then you've got a REALLY old browser version that you need to update >.>;

RPC UPDATE NOTES EDIT: Please refresh your browser if the tabs are not displaying correctly!! Please keep in mind that this update is only meant to primarily lay the foundation for the site. Further site/forum integration and tweaks will continue in future upcoming updates. New features will also be added. For now though, the following has been changed: Main site-- :moogle: A portal has been successfully installed. Further modifications will be made to the graphical aspects and widgets based on feedback. Presently, it is set up as the first page you see coming to the forums. Complications arose in making it the official home page and those complications will be looked into at a later time. :moogle: New navigation system has been installed on the main page and the forum pages. All major sections (excluding Links and Etiquette for now) of the site can be accessed via this new system. Further tweaks and integration will continue in future updates. For instance, the Linkshell directory will eventually be turned into a roster type of system similar to the RPC member list, integrated directly into the forum database. Feedback welcome. :moogle: Links widget added to sidebar (portal only for now). :moogle: Paypal donation widget added to sidebar (portal only for now). Donations will go toward future site fees. The next site fee is due around March/April I think. As of the time of this post, we lack approximately 70 US Dollars for the fee. :moogle: Search bar added to the menu. To utilize the advanced search option, simply click inside the bar, leave it blank, and hit enter. You'll be directed to the advanced search page. :moogle: RPC Facebook and Twitter buttons added to the menu. :moogle: Bookmark/favorites icon for the RPC site has changed. It may take some time to refresh. Forums-- :moogle: Bazaar section has been eliminated due to lack of use. All threads but the most recent have been deleted. Please use the Hydaelyn Observatory for all future topics related to buying/selling in game items. :moogle: Storyboard section has been merged into the Town Square. All individual stories/journals/etc should be marked with a [Closed] tag from here on out. Previously made threads have been altered as such before being moved. :moogle: Recording Studio subsection has been eliminated due to lack of use. All posts in the section have been preserved. Episode comments have been merged with the episode release threads and moved to Headlines. Miscellaneous threads in the section have been moved to the Lounge. An index of episodes can be found in the Headlines sticky (Important Info). :moogle: Guild's Bailey and Guild's Mezzanine subsections have been merged together. Social shell for Rpers and non-Besaid RP shells will now be advertised on this combined section. [server] and [social] tags should be utilized as necessary in the thread titles. :moogle: Workshop section has been eliminated. The News Room (for journalists only) and Scribe Chambers have thus come out as their own unique sections. :moogle: Archives has been moved as a subsection into the Scribe Chambers. We'll keep the locked section longer than previously announced. :moogle: Various stickies have been updated or unstickied. :moogle: Changed name of Game Room to "Hydaelyn Observatory." Linkshells-- :moogle: The linkshell list has been updated. All Guild Hall threads have been edited as necessary. Some inactive linkshells may very well make a comeback in the very near future. They are welcome to repost their details if that is the case (or PM an admin/mod so we can unlock the thread for them). They will be re-added to the directory quickly seeing as their pages have been preserved (only the link to those pages have been removed). Statistically, we've seen a drop of approximately 60% of the community's RP linkshells. This is generally pretty common in most RP communities after a game launch, though weâre the only one who keeps tabs on whether linkshells are still active or not. This number will likely rise again in the near future (especially around PS3 release). I will also be making an attempt in the near future to reach a couple other known RP groups on other servers (assuming theyâre still active). The updating of the LS roster will hopefully keep the RP groups who are still active in the spotlight where they want to, and should, be. Coming Soon-- 1) Gallery to upload RPC event photos will be hopefully ready by the next update. 2) Status updates similar to Facebook will hopefully be ready by the next update. 3) Forum side widgets presently do not completely match the main site widgets. This will be adjusted at a later time. For example, the main page allows you to "view unread posts" whereas the forums restrict you to "view new posts." This will be modified. 4) New forum/site background is being looked into. 5) The book theme will, after all info is transferred to the same database as the forums, be set up to support the Epic, Eorzean Olympics, and other IC needs. It may be converted to a flash site, though this remains to be seen. 6) Miscellaneous tweaks, such as fixing the banner to be better aligned with the borders to name one of many examples, are on the to do list. 7) A banner will be added to the wiki, along with a similar navigation menu as the forums. Additionally, a better sidebar navigation system (TreeAndMenu extension for those familiar with it) will also be implemented in the near future. 8) "Linkshell" category and sort function will hopefully be added to the member list. 9) At least 1 new forum moderator will hopefully be added to the team. EDIT: I'm aware that there is an issue with the tabs in Chrome browsers. I'm looking into it and will work on a fix ASAP. Fixed. Chrome sucks. Something as trivial as a solid black line under the menu is enough to cause mass hysteria in that browser
-
Okay, Epic will be coming first and we'll likely do another after PS3 release (assuming the first is successful). Since the Olympics were already announced IC via the Lantern, we'll just assume political/financial problems are causing the Olympics Committee to postpone the event >.>. Might be an article about it in the next Lantern issue. Epic planning will begin sometime shortly after the holidays. Please indicate if you wish to be part of the Epic committee by posting here. Presently, there is no limit to the number of committee members. They will be responsible for the content of the event, the scheduling, rule enforcement, etc. They will also need to be willing to make alternate characters for the sake of the events as needed, which shouldn't be an issue so long as the free trial doesn't suddenly stop before February/March >.> Deadline for expressing interest will be January 15th.
-
At the following time, the forums (ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum), main site (ffxiv-roleplayers.com), and the linkshell directory (ffxiv-roleplayers.com/linkshells.html) will be unavailable: Thursday, December 23rd at Noon (Eastern Standard Time)/5pm (GMT)/9am (Pacific Time) Estimated downtime: 3-4 hours (subject to change) This is part 1 of the update and will mostly lay the foundation. It will not be the complete and final version. Part 2 will be announced at a later time. Detailed notes will be revealed in a Headlines post/front page story. Sections of the RPC site not mentioned above (such as the wiki, Lantern, etc) will all be accessible during this downtime. Date of maintenance is subject to change if problems arise with the graphical/coding aspects by then. I expect to have most of the present issues hammered out by then though.
-
The final version update of the year is coming tomorrow and will be introducing the search feature for the Market Wards. The feature will still be in its infancy and be expanded upon in the future. Whether or not this is the only thing in the update remains unclear. From the Lodestone:
-
We're not getting a Hello Kitty/Lalafell theme -.-. Maybe for April Fool's or something . In preparation for the upcoming update, I've fixed a couple glitches that have been present for 1-2 months now. 1) Forum legend icons (New posts, etc) at the bottom of the board index page and forum category pages now display properly. 2) Email notifications should now be working properly for both private message notifications and subscribed topics notifications.
-
Okay, I think we'll be saying goodbye to the book theme then (though we can certainly continue using it for IC stuff like the Epic, Olympics, etc). I've been working hard on a new integrated main site and forum. The appearance won't change much (colors, borders, etc will all remain as is). The navigation will be the most drastic change. A new tab system will be added either on top of the navigation bar (which will also change) or on top of the banner. Whichever you guys prefer. The tabs will be a drop down menu much like Eorzeapedia. It will not be like Zam's with double drop downs seeing as I find that system a bit too annoying. Oria was kind enough to create some fancy graphics for the tabs which should mesh very well with the forums. The upgrade should be ready within a week's time. This will only be the first of several updates to lay the general foundation. New features will be near limitless and I'll be able to add just about any widget desired (though we don't want to go overboard). Further tweaks can be made fairly easily based on feedback. New features (like the Facebook status updates and gallery) will likely come in the second update. I'm also hoping to set up a Linkshell directory that looks semi-similar to the memberlist page, only for linkshells. It would certainly be easier to keep updated that way. A new search bar will also be added to go with the tabs. So basically, we'll look like and function similar to the other major fan sites (though we'll look less bland than their setups with fancy tabs and whatnot ). Our banner is a little big now though for the new setup. It can still work but it'll just look way too big (in terms of height) with the new setup. So hopefully we can figure out how to fix that. If the creators of the banners are reading this and are able to make their banner thinner while maintaining the length, I'd love you long time  The forums will have to go down for about 2 hours (time subject to change) and I will notify you all at least 24 hours in advance of when they'll be down. Other segments of the site such as the wiki and LS directory will still be accessible during the downtime (though the main page, ffxiv-roleplayers.com, will not be). Further consolidation of forum sections will also come in this update. This is presently being discussed amongst admins/mods.
-
As some may be aware, our forums/site are quite outdated. There are numerous reasons for this, none of which I'll bother boring anyone with. The point is, we need to start looking toward upgrading everything and making all of our site sections better mesh with one another. To do this, I wanted to ask how many of you actually use the main site? Do you just skip right to the forums or do you sometimes use the other site sections (Links, Linkshells, Lore, etc)? If the main site has become obsolete, I'd much rather not waste any more time expanding it further. If it is still widely used though, I can continue supporting it. Otherwise, I will look into restructuring the site/forums into one entity, much like Zam/Eorzeapedia/Core all do. By this I mean having a front page with news stories and other little widgets (such as links and polls). This would mean saying goodbye to the book theme however (though it can still be used in other capacities, such as the Epic/Tonberry's Lantern/Eorzean Olympics section). Thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated so I know which direction to take the site. Future additions for the forums that I'm presently looking into include a Facebook style profile/wall system, a gallery to upload RPC event photos, and further forum section restructuring. A section of the server will also be set up specifically for the Epic in the near future (similar to and as flashy as the old linkshell teaser site, only permanent). Other updates are also in the planning stages, including a new extension to the wiki for enhanced navigation. If you have any other suggestions or feedback about any of this, please feel free to speak up. Feedback is very important so I know which direction to go. I'd rather not go one way and have to backtrack because everyone hates what they see.

New topic was added to the Lodestone on some of the roaming NMs. Edited original post with link: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=1b5e205fb853192b4789b4ed91ca0cb8d415264a
