FFXI went through the exact same phase and a lot of people don't seem to realize it. In fact, most MMOs go through the exact same phase. I remember picking up XI when it first came out in the U.S. I quit after like...level 11 due to absolute boredom (and then went back several months later). There was simply nothing to do. I recall a lot of complaining about similar issues back then even. Everquest II went through the exact same thing as well. Does FF14 have a lot of flaws? Absolutely. A lot of them have been addressed by SE already for the Nov/Dec updates though. Population will shrink just like it did in FFXI (and most other games) but will likely rise again steadily as new content is added and expansions are released. I know it's been posted before but I'll go ahead and post it again just in case anyone has missed it. The following link shows how FFXI evolved from start to finish. You'll notice tons of similarities when it first came out (no NMs, few quests, no chocobos/airships, little content, and all you could mostly do was grind levels). Heck, even FFXI got an extended one month trial period just like FFXIV just got. http://zeusls.llima.net/download/ffxiupdatehistory.html

Is there a way to expand the editing menu at all? I notice there are some things missing (like a color changing palette) that some may really like. I realize that you can still change text colors with the proper coding but the average user probably has no idea about those codes and would probably much prefer an actual button for coloring text (much like these forums do). Same with text sizing as well, creating a list, etc.

If you haven't noticed, we do need a banner though >.>. Hopefully someone can come up with something sooner or later.

Server congestion is based on population/lag in the starting zones. Thus, you RPers all need to gtfo and go to Ishgard or something so some of us can actually join the server

Not sure if anyone here is guilty of using this, but just in case...Basically there are people who managed to get rank 30-50 already by using an exploit during guildleves and whatnot. I guess they'd basically prolong the guildleve as long as possible and just stand around casting enhancing/healing magic on party members to accumulate massive amounts of skill points. Statement from SE:

You can find this month's update here on the main site: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/news. Since I can no longer send out mass emails due to our numbers, I'll post the content below as well.

Happy birthday Armi, Siben, and Oldmanhector! 100 is the new 30.

Bump because there's no point creating a new thread about it. An interview by Dengeki was released today. Not much interesting stuff in it so I'm not posting it in the Headlines. However, there was this interesting tidbit:

Tis why we're here! But I do have one question for you. Would you classify this shell as a RP shell or a social shell? Looking at your posted profile, you appear to meet all the criteria for gaining advertisement from us, as well as Council status. It's just that there's a fine line between "light" RP and social shell. It seems like you can get away with the RP classification but I just want to ask you directly to be sure.

Hey there Amineri. I sent you a PM already but just in case you didn't get it (PMs aren't always going through for some reason...), I'll post here too. Let me know when you have 3 or more members. I can then proceed to put you up on the RPC's main linkshell directory on the main site and grant the Syndicate Council status. Second, I wanted to ask if you had any logos in mind for your group's main site linkshell directory? The logo should be 80 x 80 pixels. If you are unable to make one, I can easily put up the default image (though it's very bland and not creative) until you want to replace it. Also, someone made a topic about the Syndicate over in the Pub if you haven't seen it yet. They seem curious about it so you may want to head over there and check it out! Hope to hear back from you soon! ~Cas

Hello Velveteen! When you have 3+ members, please let me know. You seem to meet all other requirements for advertisement and Council status except that one. If you have an 80x80 pixel image for your main site listing, feel free to submit it as well. Or I could just use that V image you've got up right now for it. Since your linkshell has a more 'seedy' theme to it, we want to stress that the RPC does not endorse certain public behavior. Some suggestive content is perfectly fine, especially with this game being far more mature than FFXI was. And what happens within your linkshell or other private chat channels is none of our business. However, overly suggestive content in public could result in dropped support. Now I'm not saying this group would ever do anything like that and we may be looking way too much into your theme than we should be. But since this topic was a somewhat hot button one, I just wanted to throw it out there now ^^;

I'm shocked Besaid hasn't had character creation suspended yet. Lindblum has been temporarily disabled more than once now. We're lucky we narrowly avoided that server . SE just announced yet another lockdown for Lindblum on the Lodestone.

The last two months in the RPC has had enough drama to last the entire year for those paying close attention to every single thing going on. I feel itâs time to remind people about the number one forum rule. For the sake of clarity, Iâll quote it from its Headlines announcement. Weâve had no problem with discrimination or harassment (as far as Iâm aware). But the snarky attitudes need to stop. Now. There have been several threads these past couple months where people sabotage them and get them totally off topic, make snarky and/or elitist comments, or just downright insult someone else. This rule goes for everyone who registers on these forums, whether it be a member who's been here since January or someone totally new. The same goes for groups, whether you be a regular member or a Council member. Nobody is exempt from this. Leading a democratic organization like this is not easy for me and is extremely frustrating 90% of the time (especially considering how Iâm fairly anti-democracy as is). Iâm extremely limited in the things Iâm able to do. However, the forum rules are one of the very few things I have absolute control over. And Iâm very tired of seeing some of the negativity and drama day after day, week after week. For this next month, Iâm probably going to have a much more firm hand on this issue than I have up until now. The game has -just- launched. We should be enjoying it and each other's company. Iâm not naïve enough to think that weâll never have drama. Iâve been in the RP community long enough to know that a drama free environment is impossible. Disagreeing with someoneâs opinion is one thing. Turning something into a political battle, being judgmental, and/or making rude and condescending remarks is something else altogether. Weâre all here for the same reason. So letâs just enjoy each otherâs company and continue what we set out to do: make a prosperous role-play community. Letâs at least try to get through a month without any negativity or drama. One month. Not asking a lot here. If you have an issue with someone, you can easily restrain yourself from hitting that reply button. On that note, it's possible that we'll start seeing the "this game sucks" type of posts now that the game is officially out there. Thus far, people here have been simply posting constructive criticism about the game here and there. That's absolutely fine. Creating a huge stink before quitting is not. If you're going to quit the game, just say your goodbyes and go. We don't need to hear the detailed reasons that make you hate this game nor do we want to watch you try to take as many others with you as possible. We see this enough on Zam, Eorzeapedia, and Core. It will not be happening here and such threads will be locked without explanation. tl;dr: Show some respect to your fellow role-players, whether you like them or not. Thanks for reading and sorry for the length >.>. ~Cas

Yet another server related announcement...Some servers are quickly being locked down (temporarily) due to uneven populations. Besaid is one of the servers in the top seven I think (1,000+ on it already). Thus, SE may end up locking it down for a bit. So some of you may have to end up rerolling eventually. Can't be helped. Tis what happens when we end up with a high populated server >.>. Hopefully this doesn't cause too many issues for linkshells. Just remember that any server lockdown should only be temporary.

Rumors are now spreading on Eorzeapedia and Core that a certain community notorious for griefing is moving to Besaid. Not sure whether this is true or just a baseless rumor. But if it is true and IF they do give us problems, DO NOT give them any reaction. That's what griefers like to do, get some kind of reaction out of people. If there is any form of harassment, please go to the Support Desk via your main menu and file a complaint to a GM. When they get around to it, they'll review the chat logs and if the griefer is indeed guilty, the GM will deal with them. In the meantime, /blacklist is your friend. This goes for any and all griefers. The role-play community should remain as united as possible in this policy. We want to handle these kinds of situations with maturity and in a cool-headed way, since how we handle this will reveal a lot about us as a community. If we keep ignoring and reporting them, they're going to eventually get tired of getting suspended/banned. Square Enix has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to griefing, as they revealed many times in FFXI.

From the new Lodestone site (the place where all FF14 related news will be posted directly from SE): http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/index.html FAQ:

Share your experiences with fellow RPC members (if any yet) from beta here! Edit: Had to shrink some pics to get them to fit. Thus, quality isn't great. The original screenshots are so big in width -.- The Wet Rats story-telling event: My run-in with AETHER. Soren is somewhere. I think I purposely cut him out My staring contest with TALE. For the record, I won.

Well, launch linkshells really -shouldn't- have too many members from the get-go. It makes it too hard to create an open and connected atmosphere amongst the members, thus leading to cliques and a divided internal community too soon. Hence why so many are closed or restricted right now. After the numbers start evening out within the first month or so, they'll likely all reopen recruitment again (unless they get flooded all over again afterward). I agree with you though Daishi. Even after factoring in the MIA role-players within the RPC, the numbers are still enough to support at least 20- 25 RP linkshells. I'd make my own (yes, I know I said I wouldn't be interested in leading a shell again back on Sylph) but it would be an administrative nightmare for me considering my position with the RPC. Plus, I'm so far very satisfied with my current linkshell choice so...yeah. Pity though. I had some great ideas for linkshells based on early and late Sylph years. Also, I've noticed at least 2 "light" RP shells recruiting on Besaid. Neither are registered with us but they do exist. Though I'm betting a lot of non-RP linkshells on Besaid will probably start putting "RP friendly" in their recruitment ads. There are also 3 other casual+ RP groups, though each is on a completely separate server altogether.

Let me know when you have more than 3 members so I can add you to the site directory/Council. Also feel free to send me an 80x80 pixel image for your group's logo/avatar on the listing page.
-
Added to main site's linkshell directory. When/if you get a new icon ready, send me a PM or email with it. Same goes for any other changes you wish to make to it. Council status to be granted shortly to Aioxin and Deirdre. If this is wrong, be sure to let me know ASAP. Be on the lookout for a long email about it. Welcome to the RPC and we hope you get all you need/want out of the coalition!
-
Thanks everyone! Sera, you have too much time on your hands
-
The goggles are likely just the same as FFXI's empress bands in that it probably only has so many charges. SE isn't the type of company to give a permanent exp boost to people.

Hello Deirdre! I'm assuming your group already has more than 3 members? If so, I'll get you added to the main site as soon as possible and grant Council status (see FAQ sticky in this section for more details). Also, if you'd like to submit a logo/icon to be used with your group on the main site, feel free to submit an 80 x 80 pixel image. Otherwise, I'll just use the RPC default image. Edit: Who exactly would get the first Council position?
