  1. Would anyone (not including Council peeps since this was their suggestion ) be completely opposed to changing the length of the poll from 3 days to 1? Everyone should be aware of when the poll is opening since I sent out a mass email stating as such. But I'm not sure if anyone feels this is too rushed. I don't want to change the time limit suddenly without warning.
  2. This is our current wiki: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki It's a mess right now. My main priority is that sidebar/navigation menu. I want to make it more user friendly with categories and subcategories. This is basically the kind of sidebar menu I'm aiming for: http://sylph-rp.wetpaint.com Also, sorry for the Core rant. It's been slowly building and it had to come out sometime
  3. We may not end up with a wiki ourselves at this rate >.>. If I can find someone to at least fix/create the navigation menu, I could probably do the rest. But experienced volunteers are few and far between it seems. Eorzeapedia will probably be the most used major wiki seeing as they have the most experience by far in that particular department. Plus, they were the dominant one in FFXI which puts them at an automatic advantage in FFXIV as well. Core...well, (off topic rant on) let's just say quite a few of us (myself included) are about ready to throw in the towel when it comes to them. The community there is so oblivious and uncaring toward RP despite numerous attempts to reach out to them. Our link is posted there more times than on any other fan site. Malrend recently bumped like 3 separate RP threads there and all 3 fell right back into oblivion instantly. Anytime the RPC is mentioned, responses tend to be "what's that?" RP related threads receive very few responses and views. And to top it off, our redirect rate from them is only about 2-3% (compared to Zam's 20% and Eorzeapedia's 13-14%). The staff there does support RPers seeing as two of them are/were RPers themselves. But not as much as they really should in my opinion. Eorzeapedia put us into their podcast. Zam gave us a front page article and plans to put out more, along with a wiki section. So far, Core hasn't done much save for offering to put up a little blurb about our RP server choice with their weekly wrap-up. Woohoo... The members themselves just don't give a rat's behind. I'm getting off topic though. Just needed to get that off my chest somewhere though, saw Core mentioned, and saw my chance >.>;. /end rant.
  4. Part II: Like Father, Like Son The overseer bowed his head out of courtesy."Castiel, it's a pleasure to see you again. I must admit that I wasn't expecting you. I hope your father is well?" 'Castiel?' Jillian contemplated silently to herself. She recognized the name as the only known offspring of Cartius, though this was the first time she had seen him in person. The hyur woman took note of Vertigo once more, noticing that the bodyguard remained several paces behind Castiel but still within close range. The miqo'te's head tilted casually in each direction, scanning the surrounding tunnel. The golden mask made it impossible to discern what emotions her face displayed underneath. Jillian couldn't help but wonder why the woman was with Castiel to begin with. She was usually only seen at the side of Cartius himself. Perhaps it was meant to be symbolic, one of Cartius's many subtle mind games that he was so infamous for. "My father is doing quite well," Castiel stated in response to the overseer's inquiry. His voice was clear and defined, confident even, with a small hint of an Ul'dahn accent. Another point was tallied into Jillian's secret mental scorebook on the youth's attractiveness. "He is currently shifting his focus to other projects and is leaving me in charge of this operation from here on out. That won't be a problem, will it?" "O-of course not!" The overseer forced a smile. "We're honored you'll be overseeing this project and I look forward to seeing how well your father no doubt prepared you for this." Jillian couldn't help but grin to herself. She knew that the overseer was annoyed over the fact that someone more than half his age was now his boss. She was impressed that Castiel was able to intimidate the gruff highlander. Another point was tallied into her mental scorebook. "What's the status report?" Castiel went straight to the meat of the matter, wasting no time in diving into his new project. Nodding, the gruff hyur overseer gestured toward the large stone gate. "We can't force our way through without risking damage to whatever is inside. As you can see, there are two slots in the door. One on each side. The slot on the left has much greater depth, no doubt for some kind of rod. The slot on the right has practically no depth. Looks like some kind of coin indentation. Both slots seem magically sealed, meaning only the exactly correct keys will work." Castiel walked up to the gate, examining each slot carefully in silence. He then positioned himself directly in the center of the gate and placed his bare hand flat against the concrete. The hyur closed his eyes as a faint blue aura began to surround his entire body. Jillian watched in awe along with the rest of the crew. She knew that the Mavanix family was gifted in magic but had never actually seen a true demonstration. Despite her lack of experience in the magical realm, Jillian could still feel the intensity in the air. Wealthy, confident, handsome, and powerful. She would give him a perfect score in her imaginary book were it not for his last name. Almost as soon as the aura appeared, it vanished again. A sly smile crossed Castiel's lips. "The artifact my father seeks is definitely inside. So I suppose all we need now are the two keys to access it." Jillian looked shocked. How did he verify what was inside? The hyur woman suddenly recalled a pleasant memory of her grandfather. The old man once flaunted a powerful magical ability to her called 'astral projection' when she was but a child. The aura that had briefly surrounded Castiel reminded her greatly of that. But her grandfather had told her that it was a very difficult skill to utilize, let alone master. Jillian was even further impressed, assuming that ability was what she just saw. "But that'll be like finding a needle in a haystack," the overseer stated matter-of-factly. "If the keys are not in your father's museum, anyone could own them. Finding either one could take years, never mind actually obtaining them." "But of course," Castiel responded with another confident smile. "Don't you know? The search is half the fun. Lock down this area. Nobody should be allowed in. Nor should anyone know of its existence until further notice." "That's it?" The overseer looked somewhat puzzled. "What about the keys?" "Leave that to me," Castiel said confidently as he started to walk away from the gate and past the nearby crew. He didn't say another word as he and Vertigo slowly disappeared out of sight down the gloomy tunnel. 'Not too different from his father,' Jillian thought to herself quietly. 'If that's the case, gods have mercy on whoever he thinks has the keys..." ========================== ((OOC: Parts 3-5 can only be viewed by those who are in my primary linkshell at this time)).
  5. ~New forum mod installed that allows poll results to remain secret until the poll has concluded. This feature will be used in the upcoming vote. ~Several secondary forum accounts have been deactivated. More pending. They will be reactivated after the poll concludes. ~Forum registration will be set to admin approval only as of early Monday.
  6. Keep an eye on the following site. There are going to be 20 servers and the names are currently pending. They may be released by Monday or early Tuesday if we're lucky. It keeps an accurate update of the servers and it seems the old servers (Shadowlord, etc) no longer exist. http://www.ffxiv-status.com
  7. There's a huge difference between minimum requirements and recommended requirements. Very few people are going to meet all of the recommended specs simply because they're so high. Your main focus should be on the min requirements.
  8. For those of you who may have trouble figuring out what needs upgraded on your PC, a well known site has added FFXIV to its list of games. The site scans your PC and tells you whether you meet the minimum and/or recommended system requirements. It can be very helpful. Just go here: http://svc.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/analysis.aspx Select FF14 from the drop down menu and let it do its quick analysis.
  9. The server names may not even be villains at all. They may change completely. There has been no verification that the closed beta server names are the same as the open beta server names. They just said that the open beta names are the same as retail and left it at that. People are going to have to reroll. There's no getting around it. The vote is going to last 3 days. Any shorter wouldn't give some people enough time to get their vote in and we'll have angry masses on our hands. Rerolling shouldn't be an issue though. For starters, your character data IS going to be wiped after open beta anyway. So your character name is the only thing you need to concern yourself with. In addition, you can skip the opening CS from now on, which makes rerolling easier. Before anyone comes in raging about rerolling, I'll nip it in the bud now by saying THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION. We can't start the vote now because we don't have the final server list yet. And we can't have the poll only last less than 3 days and not give enough time. All of this was posted in the Server Selection sticky in which nobody objected to. So yeah...most of you will have to reroll. If someone doesn't like that, they can just play on whatever random server they start on and wait until closer to the end of open beta before deleting the character and reserving the name on the proper server.
  10. Added to main site linkshell directory. Description, rules, and relics section pending for now. Council membership also pending the completion of the Charter vote. If you wish to make any changes and additions to your section of the site, please let me know.
  11. Part I: The Excavation Jillian squinted, her hyur eyes growing weary after a hard day's work. The middle-aged woman couldn't wait to get home and bathe. Her long brown hair and bronze skin seemed even darker than usual due to the surrounding filth in the sandy underground cavern. This particular excavation assignment was a big one though and she knew that the hard work would pay off. The gil she would make from this assignment alone was nearly double that of the normal rate. Whatever the boss wanted was definitely important to him this time around. So important, in fact, that he was coming in person to check on the progress. In her thirteen years of excavating projects, she had only seen him show up three other times. His name was Cartius Mavanix, and he was perhaps the most intimidating man she had ever come across. Thus, Jillian wasn't exactly enthused at his soon-to-be arrival. The excavation crew, seven hyur in total with Jillian as the only woman, rushed into finishing the cleanup effort. Jillian and two others started to put the tools away. Three others continued using large brushes to finish dusting off the massive stone door in which the team had carefully dug around. The door was about as tall as two average-sized roegadyn and as wide as about ten if they were standing side-by-side. No amount of strength seemed capable of opening the gate and plowing straight through the stone wall would likely cause a deadly cave-in. Digging further around or under the massive gate would have similar results, possibly damaging or destroying whatever was housed within. No, there was only one way through the gate. Two slots, one on each side of the stone door and not much larger in diameter than a coin, clearly were meant for the keys needed to open the secretive chamber. But where or exactly what those keys were was anyone's guess. Hence why the big man himself was coming. The seventh hyur was a gruff looking highlander and any outsider would know right away that he was the overseer. He shouted out an order to one of the crew members to put away the two buckets of chemicals sitting up against the eastern wall. The chemicals were often used with the brushes to do as little damage as possible to the sometimes ancient objects that were discovered in the ground. Only a few minor trinkets were found during this excavation though, aside from the massive gate in which was the real objective from the start. An eighth crew member, this one a male lalafell, could be seen scurrying down the dark tunnel. Various torches and lanterns had been hung along the walls to help with the lighting, making it relatively easy to see long distances in the otherwise black abyss. The lalafell finally reached the rest of the crew near the gate, taking a moment to catch his breath before speaking. "He's coming!" Though Cartius's arrival was expected, the crew still felt like they were caught off-guard. Quickly, they finished up whatever it was they were doing and stepped off to the side. Only the overseer was left standing near the gate, taking a deep breath and looking down the opposite tunnel in anticipation for the boss's arrival. Jillian brushed some dirt off her face and watched quietly with a mix of dread and anticipation as the two figures approached from the other end of the well lit sandy tunnel. The first figure was an average sized male hyur wearing a beautiful white satin robe, the attached hood obscuring his face. The second figure was a miqo'te wearing tight black leather from head to toe. Her face was hidden by a golden mask, her white ponytail the only visible part of her head. Jillian instantly recognized her as Vertigo, the personal bodyguard and informant of Cartius. Whispers often depicted her as the family's personal assassin as well, though there was of course no evidence to support that outlandish theory. Regardless, everyone knew that Vertigo's loyalty to the Mavanix family was second to nobody. As the two approached the overseer, the male hyur removed his hood much to the shock of the entire excavation crew. It certainly wasn't Cartius, but rather someone much younger. His pale blond hair looked almost angelic from Jillian's view. His olive complexion and boyish face almost made her blush. But even more impressive was the amount of confidence beaming in the youth's eyes. His very gaze seemed to demand respect. At the same time, his boyish face seemed capable of charming even the most bearish individuals. Even though Jillian was probably old enough to be his mother, she couldn't help but be somewhat attracted to the young man. She quickly shook the emotion away, knowing that anyone related to or involved with the Mavanix family was generally not someone to get involved with for one's own sake.
  12. I believe 19:00 PDT is 10pm Eastern time. For those in the European timezones, that's not until September 1st officially. When someone actually gets their hands on the entire server list (whoever logs in fastest >.>), please post the full list in the Server Selection sticky. Do NOT create a poll since various safeguards need to be activated first.
  13. Merged with Aveline's topic. And yay for sit goodness. Now you just have to hope there are enough chairs to go around >.>.
  14. Okay, time to get this vote underway since the discussion thread is more or less dead now. Please note that this is NOT a discussion thread. It is a vote. Any suggestions for changes will be ignored unless the charter does not pass, in which case we will take into consideration the suggested changes and hold a new vote. Please point out a typo though if you see one >.> Poll closes in the usual 7 days. Proposed charter is as follows:
  15. Go to Jecht on open beta start (if they keep the villain names). But be prepared to reroll shortly after. Our vote begins probably on the 31st. The original 10 servers will likely be added to and I'd rather hold off the vote until then. RPC Council people, start preparing to mobilize your members for the vote :cheer:
  16. This is actually an etiquette worthy topic (and was originally listed as one). So everyone feel free to submit some proposed guides related to time in Hydaelyn and Earth to put up on the main site.
  17. SE has officially explained the surplus system on the beta forums. Tanaka apparently got tired of the whining (as per his recent twitter post lol). http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=26 ... 831&page=1
  18. This is the exact card I got: http://www3.pny.com/9800-GT-EE-1024MB-P ... 0C331.aspx As I said, it sounded like the fan was rubbing against the sides or something. So maybe it was just faulty. But I'm afraid of exchanging it and having the exact same thing happen >.>; Edit: Why does it still ask for a min of 400W power supply when you can't even connect a power supply to it? >.>
  19. Must be a faulty fan then. It doesn't need an external power supply so it can't be that (power efficient model). Still though, is it normal for the fan to be so loud and for the card to get so hot?
  20. I installed my new graphic card today (GeForce 9800 GT). There was just one problem. The fan was insanely loud. By loud I mean that I had to shut the window because the neighbors could probably hear it. It sounded like the fan was hitting up against the sides or something. Anyway, I thought it was normal and logged into FF14. Within about 5-10 minutes, the fan snapped. Taking it out, I noticed the card was incredibly hot as well and I'm not sure if that was normal or not. I should note that the graphic card DID actually work. Did I just get unlucky with a defective unit or did I do something wrong in the installation process?
  21. Please view the new sticky in the Headlines section! It details a summary of these last many pages, as well as the selection process, voting procedures, and so on. If you have any qualms with anything stated there, please post in that thread. If no grievances are made within 5-7 days, it will be our "official" server selection info.
  22. Please note: Various mass emails will be sent out over the next 3 weeks regarding server selection. Be on the lookout for those (including your spam folder just in case). Part I: Summary Part II: The official selection process Part III: The official voting process Part IV: Misc. Notes If you have any qualms about Part II or Part III, please post in this thread immediately! Part I: Summary Below is the summary of the RPC's discussion on server selection. This is based on the two month long discussion in the Assembly Room. *The overall consensus is that the RP community prefers an unofficial RP server over an official one. If given an official RP server, however, we will roll with it for the sake of simplicity and unity. *The RPC is not responsible for mobilizing non-RPers. The server choice will be heavily advertised both here and on other premier sites. If you have non-RP friends that you wish to share servers with, please take the initiative in mobilizing them yourself. *Various "what if" scenarios have been discussed. The official selection process should take all of these into account. Many worst-case scenarios have been eliminated due to SE confirming certain things in previous interviews (such as definitely being able to select your starting server). *While probably not a choice of the RPC, the consensus is to aim for a medium populated server during the vote. High population servers risk long term lockouts (which prevents new RPers from joining and thus starts suffocating linkshells who may need new members). Others fear that a low population may prevent a nicely populated atmosphere (though the RPC by itself can probably push a server from low to medium). So please pay attention to where other major communities are aiming for during the vote. *If there is a Sephiroth or Kefka server (or any other overly famous villain/hero name), the consensus is to avoid those due to the population such servers would attract. *Servers are international. The RPC has so far failed to find and mobilize any other non-English speaking RP communities. This is not a priority but if anyone stumbles across any, please let us know. There was mention of a small German RP group here: http://www.ff-xiv.eu/forum/viewforum.php?f=72. German speakers please get back to us on any progress made here. *In regards to landing on a server with lots of griefers: The RPC advises that all griefers be ignored and reported to a GM as needed. *Major fan sites (Core, Zam, and Eorzeapedia) have stated that they will support the RPC in our server selection endeavors. Zam is doing this by drastically increasing visibility for us. Core is doing this by agreeing to shut down all RP server selection polls that may pop up there. We are still awaiting a full response by Eorzeapedia, though we suspect theyâll support our server choice as well. Part II: The official selection process I stuck with the letter "L" to avoid confusion since the whole "Sephiroth" issue will now be moot but if anyone wants to change this, speak up now! ====If one official RP server is designated by SE==== 1. We choose that one. ====If multiple official RP servers are designated by SE==== 2a. If we know in advance what they will be, we vote. 2b. If we do not know in advance, we choose the first alphabetically from L. ====If no official RP servers are designated==== 3. If we know in advance what they will be, we vote. 4. If they're based on villains, we go with what we decided during the open beta vote (vote to begin soonish). 5. If they're not based on villains (or our chosen villain isn't listed), we choose the first alphabetically from L. Part III: The official voting process *Official poll will be in the Assembly Room. Any additional polls created will be nuked. Mods please move such extra polls to the Council Chambers immediately. Members who keep making a new poll separate from the official one will have their accounts temporarily disabled and/or banned depending on the offense. *Mass emails will be sent out when voting begins and when it ends. If you don't check the forums often, keep an eye on your inbox (spam folder included). *Each RPC member has one vote and one vote only. There will be no changing of a vote so make your first one count. *The poll will last no longer than 3-5 days. This is assuming we have the server names at least 3-5 days BEFORE September 22nd. Otherwise, there likely won't be a poll at all and we'll defer to our other selection methods listed in Part II. *Secondary forum accounts will be temporarily disabled prior to the vote. *Forum registration will be set to "administrator approval" during the vote. *Poll results will be hidden until the poll closes. That means nobody will be influenced by whatever server is "winning" or "losing." *In the extremely rare event of a tie, the RPC Council will hold a swift vote to break the tie amongst themselves. This tie vote would be concluded BEFORE the game goes live. *The server that gets "2nd place" in the polls will be considered the "spillover" server. That means if the unofficial RP server gets overpopulated and locked, the second choice will be the one to go to until population can get back to a regular size. We will come up with a long term solution with this issue when/if it occurs. Part IV: Misc. Notes *All RPC member linkshells and freelancers are asked to respect the poll results regardless of any personal bias with the server name. *The RPC will stand by its server decision regardless of any drama that may arise on other sites about it. *In the event that there are too many RPers to fit on a single server (server overload), the spillover server will serve as the temporary home for other RPers until we discuss a longer term solution (if any). The overflow server will be the one who wins second place in the poll. If no poll, it will be the next server after the RPC's chosen server alphabetically starting with L.
  23. Moved to Lounge. Also, beta is ending in like...2 days just so everyone is aware. Open beta will then begin in early September. So beta keys are essentially useless at this point unless you're sure you can download the beta client and update it in an extremely small amount of time
  24. We'll hold a vote after open beta begins based on the current beta server names. Several more servers may be added at that time and it won't hurt to be prepared in case they do keep the names (though they probably will change the names). Be prepared for numerous mass emails over the next few weeks regarding this. Otherwise, I think we've got a pretty solid outline ready based on the feedback here. I'll prepare a summary of this massive thread and the "official" proposal in the Headlines section soon.
