Necrobump. For non-Sylph RPers, you probably don't care about this so feel free to ignore it . For former Sylph RPers, I believe the Crystalline forums are set to expire tomorrow. Last chance to get any stories or whatever backed up. You may also continue viewing Sylph RP material at the Sylph RP wiki here: http://sylph-rp.wetpaint.com There's also a 28 minute tribute video you can download from the wiki's sidebar. Rest in peace Crystalline!

Hoo boy, I have some strong opinions all over the place on this topic . Iâve never actually role-played a meaningful IC romantic relationship with another RPer. Not because I didnât want to but because it just never fit my characters to do so. I think romantic relationships in the RP world are very important though and create a ton of stories, both adorable and dramatic. That said, there are a few issues I do have with them. And I know others will disagree with me vehemently on some of this but it is how I personally feel. First, I very strongly believe that real life couples should -not- RP romantic relationships with each other. Why? Even though real life partners may be extremely comfortable Rping with each other on that level, there are drawbacks they never seem to take into consideration. One such drawback is the IC/OOC barrier. There really isnât a big one left when a real life couple also has an IC relationship. OOC paranoia is sometimes heightened over IC actions and so on. My character in FFXI was actually quite flirtatious. He flirted with just about any hume/mithra/elvaan female he encountered. That was just who he was and it was 100% IC. There was a point where I was actually OOCly told to stop IC flirting with someone simply because it made her and her boyfriend uncomfortable (or rather paranoid). I found this very insulting personally. I donât like being told to stop Rping my character a certain way just because someone else canât keep IC and OOC divided. And I tend to be very good at keeping IC/OOC completely separate, but apparently some people arenât as able to. Obviously this doesnât apply to all IC/OOC mixed couples. But the majority seems to fit in this category. The biggest drawback though is isolation. Basically, real life couples rarely ever have their characters break up unless they break up in real life. Thus, itâs rather pointless to even try throwing an IC wrench into the RP relationship because you already know it wonât do squat. Itâs not fun to RP a third wheel in a predetermined relationship that you know you canât do anything about. Thus, the couple unknowingly pushes away a lot of potential RP interactions. And since they tend to do everything together, it becomes even more difficult to get involved with any of their RP stories (as well as getting them into other RP stories outside their own). So yeahâ¦they tend to push away a good chunk of other RPers even though they donât realize it. As for ERPâ¦I wonât touch too much on this. I do believe it should be kept COMPLETELY off any kind of public chat though (save maybe little things like kissing, holding hands, etcâ¦but Iâm not sure any of that falls into ERP). My biggest issue with it is the fact that some people use RP communities specifically for this. It irks me to no end when people use a community as their own personal Playboy mansion. I understand that there are horny people in real life and itâs only natural that there are also going to be horny people in the RP world. But it really annoys me when people join a group specifically to get cyber laid. I can always recognize these types of people because they very seldom interact with people of the same gender on any IC/OOC level >.>.

"Well if you say they are trustworthy, then I suppose I have no choice but to trust you. I look forward to our next meeting, my dear Elysia. And please do give your mother my deepest regards and condolences." Taking Elysia's hand, Cartius gently kissed it. "And farewell to you as well, Miss Ryelle." With that the Mavanix patriarch made his way down the docks, barely acknowledging Terajima or Felix as he did so. The masked miqo'te casually followed after him, ensuring that she crossed right next to Felix on her path to catch up with her lord. As she passed the young pirate, her tail swooped out and gently rubbed against his leg in an attempt to make him even more uncomfortable just for a brief moment. Cartius and his bodyguard soon disappeared out of sight, making their way into the inner city of Limsa Lominsa.

As I come closer to finishing up the basics of the linkshell section on the main site, I now have to look toward the lore section. The lore section is intended to be a wiki based largely on the data compiled in the Library section of the forums. I did start designing it about a month ago but it hasnât really gone anywhere since then. You can check out how hideous it still is by clicking the link: http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki . Obviously, it would look MUCH better before being officially launched. Hereâs the issue. I know that some linkshells are also creating wikis but Iâm not sure exactly what specific direction, if any, these groups are going in. I know TALE will be having a wiki for lore. Stormguard had mentioned creating a wiki, though Iâm not sure how extensive they plan to be. In addition, AETHER is doing their encyclopedia project. So Iâm hoping these groups (and any others I missed) can come in and explain a little bit about their wikis. The last thing I want to do is put a ton of effort into something that ends up being insanely redundant. Hopefully we can work out how to establish the lore section in a way that's satisfactory to everyone.

10 Common Errors Spell Check Wont Catch
Kylin replied to Eva's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I honestly didn't know about the "farther versus further" thing >.>;. I'm fine on all of the remaining things on that list though. Though it's not listed on that, I do have issues with "who" versus "whom." Mostly just "whom." -
I merged the last 5 pages or so of this thread with the Beta Initiative Assembly thread. This thread was getting way off topic and considering the importance of this, it only adds to confusion to those trying to stay caught up. I'll likely end up doing some more thread/post cleaning when I get another chance to. Please keep all beta related chat in the proper threads. Thanks. Edit: Also deleted about another page worth of replies. No worries though. They were all mostly 1 sentence off-topic statements

Cartius examined Terajima for a moment, seeming a bit annoyed by her presence. He must have decided that it wasn't worth the effort to say anything about it though. "Brigands you say? Just as I expected. This city is flooding with them after all." The masked miqo'te continued evaluating Felix, tilting her head ever so slightly to the side as she did so. She clearly noticed his nervousness and appeared to be quite amused by it. "As to why I'm here," Cartius continued. "There is an auction tomorrow with a very rare crystalline statue up for bidding. It was recently dug out of the Rhotana Sea and the craftsmanship is quite exquisite. Speaking of which, I should probably head to my room now that Lady Elysia's escort has arrived. I'll need some rest before the bidding war begins." Turning to Elysia, Cartius smiled. "I do hope you find the time to join me at the auction tomorrow. And if not, do not forget to pay my son a visit upon your return to Ul'dah. He'd be oh so delighted to see you again." The noble's gaze shifted to Ryelle and then Terajima. "I do hope Lady Elysia is being put into good hands."
-
Cartius turned his gaze to the new arrivals, slight intrigue in his eyes. He scanned Ryelle first with an analytical gaze before setting his sights on the two others accompanying her. A look of slight annoyance crossed his face. "The Phoenix Trade group you say? I have not heard of them. What exactly do they deal with? Having kept Lady Elysia waiting like this, I would hope that the business was well worth it." The masked miqo'te's gaze fell upon Felix, though it was impossible to discern what emotions were being expressed under the golden mask. She simply stared straight toward him, her arms crossed and her tail shifting to and fro casually.

"Your first trip here? Well, you're not missing much. The place is crawling with pirates. I suggest you finish your business as quickly as possible and leave, lest some scavenger try to swoop in on you." Cartius glanced back at the baggage boy, noticing him for the first time due to Elysia's comment. "It would be rude of me to leave you before your escort has arrived,â the noble stated matter-of-factly before turning back to Elysia. "I'm sure Castiel would never let me hear the end of it either." Turning back to the boy and the masked miqo'te, Cartius nodded to his bodyguard. "Give the boy the address and let him deliver my things. Though let me warn you now, boy. If anything, anything at all, should come up missing...there will be dire consequences." "...Yessir," the boy said through clenched teeth before turning back to the masked miqo'te, awaiting further instructions. "Now that we have that issue out of the way," Cartius said with a smile as he turned back to Elysia. "We really must find this escort of yours. You would think there would be no reason for delay at this time of night unless something troubling has happened." The luggage boy passed the two nobles, having received the address from the masked miqo'te. When he knew Cartius wasn't looking, the boy gave a slightly dirty look and continued away from the docks. Meanwhile, the masked miqo'te quickly turned her head toward the roof of a building, having thought she had seen something move. Seeing nothing, she returned to scoping out the rest of the area.

Changed the title from "XI" to "11." Honestly, this thread has probably served its purpose though. I don't think any of the listed RP groups benefited from this at all sadly. The majority of RPers have pretty much abandoned Vana'diel. I'll leave it stickied for a bit longer but not too much longer.

Okay, here's what going on. I've decided to turn titles into images (including all titles outside of the Linkshell section...expect that update before the RPC July update goes out next week). I've set up a page for TALE and Stormguard as samples (though they're fairly finalized in format). Obviously I need to add some more info and maybe tweak other minor things still. But it's mostly finalized. The navigation arrows do not work yet since they're meant to navigate between different guilds and not subsections. The title is a link, hence the reason there's a purple box around it. That link leads back to the basic info page so one can go back there from one of the subsections easily. Anywho, here are the pages. Edit: Links removed due to completed pages. Notes: ~Urls will change before being finalized. ~The question mark picture will be replaced once the guild gets in game and manages to get a group screenshot. ~Rules section: You'll notice that this is going to end up being one massive wall of text. That might turn off potential members who are just skimming guilds for the basics. Thus my advice to guild leaders is this: Make a second shorter and simplified version of your rules and send them to me. I'll put those on the site instead and then provide a link to your more in depth rules. This way, new potential recruits don't have to sift through a ton of info unless their interest is peaked. ~Relics section: Pending. I'll probably have to talk to each individual guild to figure out how they want that section set up. More info later. ~Stormguard: Your little icon is just something I put up for now. If you want to change it, feel free to send me a new one whenever you want

Cartius smiled, obviously excited over the fact that Elysia had asked about his son. "Castiel is quite well. In fact, I'm prepping him for a rather significant project. I'm confident he'll be able to get the results I seek. He's become quite ambitious while maintaining his boyish charms. You two should really get together some time once you return to Ul'dah. It's been oh so long. But in the meantime, I do hope you stop by the auction tomorrow. It'll be starting around noon." The Mavanix patriarch glanced around momentarily, noticing Elysia's entourage for the first time. "You said you were meeting Lady Ryelle? What could possibly be keeping her? Surely she was aware of when the ship would arrive. I do hope she wasn't attacked by pirates or some other brigand. This city is just seething with vigilantes." The luggage boy sighed dejectedly. He was starting to clearly get annoyed with the wait, secretly furious over the fact that these nobles saw their time as more valuable than his. But he remained quiet still. After all, he didn't really have much of a choice.

I was wondering why it was taking so long for the Sparta reference :lol: But yes, it is indeed awesome that we made it to 300 members. This is made even more awesome by the fact that we were hovering around 200 as of around the beginning of the month. So we've gained 100 role-players in less than a month I'm not getting 300 balloons because then I'd have to blow them all up >.>
-
Cartius smiled, taking Elysia's extended hand gently and kissing it out of noble-like courtesy. "That is correct. An exquisite crystalline statue was dug out of the sea recently. The auction is tomorrow and I am hoping I can win the bid. I think it would look quite marvelous at the museum's entrance." The luggage boy finally started making his way toward Cartius, clearly struggling a bit with the excessive load. As if sensing him approaching, the masked miqo'te didn't even look back as she stretched out her arm and blocked the boy's advance. The boy, somewhat startled, didn't know how to react. The miqo'te tilted her head slightly toward the boy and whispered softly. "He's in a conversation. It would be rude to interrupt. You will wait until he is finished." The boy became agitated for a moment but quickly calmed himself and decided it would be best to comply, taking note of the daggers sheathed on each side of the miqo'te's belt. "Oh, where are my manners?" Cartius frowned and put a comforting hand on Elysia's shoulder. "I don't think I've ever given proper condolences over the loss of Sir Van'Celle. I do hope time has made his untimely demise easier for you to deal with. And your mother...she must have been especially devastated." His last words seemed uttered in the tone of near mockery, as if the death of Elysia's former husband was a twisted form of karmic justice.

The ship's steward, a male hyur dressed to impress, smiled and gave well wishes to each noble as he or she disembarked the massive ship. Several of the nobles wasted no time in heading toward wherever they were residing for the duration of their stay. Several others lingered behind to ensure that their precious luggage would be delivered without any delay. "Good eve to you Lord Mavanix," the steward said with his usual smile to the next noble exiting the luxury ship. "We hope you enjoyed the journey and look forward to your future patronage." The noble, a hyur man in his mid to late forties, smiled faintly back to the steward. "A very pleasant trip indeed. Thank you." The man was well dressed as were most of those disembarking the ship. It didn't take a genius to discern who was a noble and who was simply hired help. The man's white and red garments seemed to compliment his light colored hair and neatly groomed beard. He seemed in rather decent shape for a man of his age and status, though that was difficult to discern based on his semi-loose garments. A rather large ruby ring rested upon one of his left fingers, quite dazzling even under a night's sky. He stroked his chin, displaying the ring for just about anyone to see as if inviting thieves to try making a grab for it. Another figure exited the ship behind him, this one a miqo'te. Her face was concealed by a golden mask while the rest of her body was clad in black leather. A sheathed dagger rested on both her right and left hip. She remained a respectable distance from the noble, but anyone could tell that she was indeed part of his entourage--a bodyguard most likely. The noble took a few steps toward where the ship's luggage was being unloaded. After a moment of watching, the hyur barked out toward the baggage boy. "Be careful with that! The last thing I need is to have my things damaged by the water. Incompetent little..." His last words were mumbled under his breath. The baggage boy seemed extremely agitated, clearly sick of dealing with demanding nobles already. The man turned to his masked miqo'te escort and rolled his eyes. "I want to go straight to our rooms. This area reeks of scavengers." A female hyur's waving suddenly caught the man's attention. A look of surprise crossed his face, followed by a warm smile. The man strode toward the woman. The miqo'te followed, still remaining a few paces back. "Lady Elysia? What an honor to see you here. You must have been below the deck the entire time for me to not have seen you. What brings you all this way?"

Ok after a long period of banging my head on the desk trying to figure out what's wrong, I think I finally figured out the problem. Check one more time for me and please let it work . Make sure to check the "Linkshells," "All linkshells," and "Freckled Pixies" pages. Refresh each one just to be double sure. Subsections under the Freckled Pixies have not been fixed yet. If my solution works, I can also apply the fix to the rest of the main site to fix the fonts there as well. Edit: Should work with firefox, chrome, and opera. Still having trouble with Internet Explorer >< Edit edit: Damn Internet Explorer straight to hell :evil: . I can't figure out how to embed fonts with it despite following various different directions. Edit edit edit: Maybe I'll just turn the titles into text images instead. Internet Explorer is stupid and unfortunately, almost half of our users use that browser ; ;
-
You can email it to me at [email protected] Make sure you refresh the page to be extra sure though. I noticed that firefox required that more often than Internet Explorer.
-
Ok, I'm getting ready to put the finishing touches on everything soon so be sure to speak up now if you don't like something you see. 1. I'm not counting the word "The" when it comes to the alphabetical listings. I'm unsure how significant this one word is for some linkshells so if you're very strongly against this, speak up. 2. Are you seeing the titles in the correct fonts? Assuming you are, you should see zero scroll bars (I see none on my screen). 3. Any additional feedback? The navigation menus aren't entirely operational yet obviously (clicking the arrows will do nothing).
-
Happy birthday! 7 Lalafell years could be quite old in hyur years :lol:
-
Let's see if I did this correctly...For those of you not seeing the proper font, does the font show up differently now for the title ("Linkshells")? If not, refresh the page once first just to be sure.
-
I finally figured out why some of you get those scroll bars when others don't. It's fonts. The titles are using French Script font. But since many of you don't have very many fonts installed on your computer, it's coming up as simple Times New Roman or something like that. Thus, the text size is appearing slightly larger than it should be. I'll look into fixing it so you don't have to have the font installed to see it properly. I may or may not go through with it depending on how much it affects load time though.
-
Moar done! If you click on "all," you should now be able to navigate into the first linkshell listed (a sample linkshell, not an actual one ): my super duper awesome "The Freckled Pixies." Still needs some work. Text size and fonts to be adjusted still. Also want to make it easier to return to the basic info page of the linskhell. I'm also contemplating switching the picture and subsections to the right page instead of the left.
-
Is it gone now? And why is the font for "Linkshells" showing up as something different for you? /sigh -.- Edit: Blah. Apparently, I have to have embed font in order for everyone to see it properly. And unfortunately, the instructions I'm finding are so crazy annoying so far. Most of you aren't even seeing the main site as it should be seen ; ;
-
What scroll bar? Darn you people and your outdated web browsers! :lol:
