Then no one would ever RP with anyone else because it's not "realistic" and everyone would just stick to their cliques and the RP in this game would suck. I get that we want to strike a good balance with the subjective realism and suspension of disbelief in this game, but you can't let that get in the way of actually being able to utilize the thing you need to strike that balance for. Some of the best RP I've ever been a part of was in SWTOR at the Carrack Station cantina, when everyone was butting in on everyone else's conversations, because if we didn't, the RP in that place would have been stale and shitty.

I wasn't offended by what you said, and maybe I misread your context, who knows? I just wanted to lay down what I believed was an appropriate amount of QQing about trolls, which is, when you've had your fill, moan about it on the forum of your choice, then go back to whatever you were doing. Like I said, I make liberal use of the blacklist feature, and like you said, this was not a sympathy post. Just something to laugh at.

Since when were we going for realism in this game? I ride a giant chicken and shoot fireballs out of my hands. I think we can extend our suspension of disbelief to butting in on someone's conversation that we've never met.

"Kweh" is still not a very accurate onomatopoeia. I would have gone with "Fwee".

I named mine Odin. It was the first name that came to mind.

Being one of the people in on this, I still say fuck him (you know who I'm talking about) he can go write himself out of the FC on his own damn time away from where I can see it, because if I have to see anything written by that little puke again, I will just absolutely lose my mind.

All right, so just to clarify a few things, because apparently clarification is needed. 1) I am not thin-skinned. I was not posting this as a "QQ this guy ruined our RP I'm so sad" thread, more of a "Lol look at this asshole" thread, because while his crafting was hardly disruptive to the point where our RP could not continue, I did find it funny that out of aaaaallllll the spots in the Quicksand where he could have crafted, he chose smack dab in the middle of our table, so obviously it was intentional. It was meant for lulz, not for raging. 2) I make liberal use of my blacklist for trolls like the ones who showed up after our crafting friend here. As should everyone. Ignoring them is by far the best course of action, because they feed on attention and even a simple "Your life must be so sad, that you can waste time in a pay-to-play game disrupting others' enjoyment of the game" will only feed their sad little game and encourage their behavior. 3) To whichever poster it was playing devil's advocate, no, we cannot make them respect our desire to RP in the game, nor is there really anything we or Square can do to force them to stop, but having your jimmies at least a little rustled that they do it is not being a crybaby bitch about it. It is a justifiable reaction and something that these forums are, in part, here for. So don't be surprised or offended or exasperated or whatever when someone throws up a thread about trolls where they just want to blow off a little steam.

Just start crafting where we're RPing, you're not being intrusive or anything. :frustrated:

River - I guess that could work. Keep it vague enough that when/if Square finally does reveal the other continents, she can fit in regardless. Good idea. Magellan - It is possible, IMO, to keep a vague backstory and still build a solid foundation for a character. Barring Square releasing only locations that have very rigid lore and cultural lines and whatnot, more or less any character can be molded to fit whatever new nation fits them best. Besides, it's Square. You know how they can't resist a very Ivalice-y place, if not Ivalice itself.

Some people are just vindictive and we happened to get a big group of them all at once. I've been RPing for a long while now, across several MMO's, and I can say with some certainty that while what happened with us is not unheard of, it is pretty uncommon, at least in my experience. Best thing to do is just put it behind you and move on. And tell Moxie that he shouldn't be too concerned about playing other MMO's on RP servers. Normally they're fairly inviting and friendly.

Is there a repository of knowledge about the other continents that inhabit the world of Hydaelyn? I'm curious because I'm leaning towards having one of my characters be from Ivalice, but I'm not sure if it's explicitly stated what the other nations of the world are, or if they're shrouded in mystery and therefore it stands to reason that Ivalice could be a nation of Hydaelyn since the art style and job system of ARR is eerily similar to Tactics and 12. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well not in the sense of "It's mine now get out", more just, "Hey there is where our guild meets and this is, ICly, the headquarters and staging area of our FC." Maybe this isn't a thing in FFXIV but I know in WoW and GW2 RP guilds would claim bits of the map as their guild's headquarters (not large chunks, mind you; for instance my WoW guild's HQ is Westguard Keep, in Northrend. Not all of Westguard, just the keep) and it was, based on the honor system mostly, frowned upon for other guilds to "move in" so to speak and utilize that space while the other guild is trying to utilize it themselves.

I've been digging but can't seem to find a comprehensive listing of where every FC has claimed their headquarters. I feel like it would be very helpful for FC's that are just reaching the proper size for an HQ but are not sure what areas are claimed or free yet. Does anyone know if one exists? Or if perhaps we could make one and have it be sticky'd so new FC's can easily locate a spot for an HQ?

For Balmung anyway, it depends heavily on the time you're on and where. Since the major hubs are heavily populated, at least in my experience, RPers tend to prefer the out-of-the-way cities and outposts, so we don't have to put up with the muggles (non-Rpers) cluttering up the chat channels. The others who have suggested finding OOC LFRP Linkshells hit the nail on the head. Even if you vastly prefer walk-up and spontaneous RP, often finding it winds down to luck, and if luck is in short supply a particular night, LFRP Linkshells can be a life-saver.
