My Miqo'te's mannerisms are more linked to her thought processes than anything. She's a relatively emotionally stable Miqo'te under normal circumstances, her most oft-used facial expression is deadpan, so when ears or her tail are brought into the mix, those who RP with her often know something is up. Most often, it'll be her ear twitching when she's thinking really hard. Other than that, the rare times when she does have emotional outbursts are accompanied by thrashing tails, shifting ear positions, the typical Miqo norm. My Elezen, conversely, is very animated with his body language. Being an Ishgardian and having a flair for the dramatic, his flowery speech is often accompanied by twirling hand gestures, head dips, extreme facial expressions, etc. Animated body language need not be relegated solely to our cat-friends!

I only emote the ears of my Miqo'te when it can emphasize a certain action or give outward evidence of inner workings (specifically, my Miqo'te's ear twitches when she's thinking really hard). Anything else is redundant. The ears and tail are right there, in-game, doing stuff. I don't need to tell you they're there to remind you I am a catgirl and be teh bestest catgirl arpeer.

I'll just be fantasia-ing one of my existing alts into an Au Ra to circumvent server locks.

Developing problem-solving skills is applicable in more than just mathematics.

Just to sidebar back to the Common Core debate... I have a three year old son, so it'll be awhile yet before I have to play proxy math teacher. I'm a strong advocate for progressive science and understanding. Even when I was in high school, I figured most of the stuff they were feeding us was misunderstood or outright BS because I know we are in a constant pursuit of true knowledge of all facets of our world, so believe me when I say that creating new standards or methods of teaching any given subject are typically a-ok with me. My problem with the Common Core method would lie with those students who aren't grasping it. E.g. if my son was having a hard time grasping the Common Core method, I would expect his teacher(s) to be doing anything they could to help him achieve understanding, because gods know I'd be useless at it. If you're going to introduce new methods of teaching and stir up the older established methods that we parents have been teaching our own children ourselves from day one, then you'd damn well better be prepared to back up and reinforce those methods when someone doesn't get it. By all means, provide my son with a newer, different understanding of mathematical concepts. But by those same means, make absolutely sure he can understand them.

Welcome to the game! As was mentioned before, best way to start is by doing the MSQ (Main Story Quests) up till you get airship access to all three cities. It doesn't take very long and will prove tremendously helpful for participating in and garnering RP. Warren and Franz both provided very helpful tips when it comes to finding Linkshells (LS) and Free Companies (FC), but one thing to bear in mind is that a FC is not vital to finding RP. In fact, I'd wager having multiple LS is vastly more helpful in finding and facilitating RP in the game, so don't sweat finding a FC right away. FCs are better at providing a centralized spot for like-minded RPers to gather and for providing buffs and places to craft, both of which come more in handy later in your progression. So for now, I'd say focus on gathering some LS that interest you and getting to level 15-20. It will help tremendously. Of course you're free to ignore me and do whatever the hell you want, that's perfectly fine as well Side note, feel free to /tell Reilan Orycia in-game for RP or help with early game content. I'm always willing to help.

Hii! I whispered Franz earlier this evening for an invite but he said the shell was full, so he recommended I post here saying I'm looking for an invite in case there's anyone you can... ahem... "cull"

Calling All Garleans and Ala Mhigan Resistance Players! [Balmung]
SessionZero replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
I have an Ala Mhigan that I've been leveling, he should be mostly ready for RP come October -
Commander Jenlyns- I would be a fool to turn down an opportunity such as this. Of course, I am still interested. My achievements and qualifications follow: Former Immortal Flame Priestess of Halone Distinguished mercenary career under the pseudonym "Scarlet Blade" Service to Eorzea with the Free Company "Order of the Sword and Rose" Former commander of the Free Company "Knights of the Spiral Eye" I sincerely hope you find my qualifications to be suitable to the needs and expectations of the Sultansworn. I eagerly await your reply. With respect, -Llaine, of House Tetheros
-
Llaine eyes the letter with a little more than a glint of excitement in her eye. Sultansworn? That had been her dream since she was a young noble, watching the Sultansworn in the chamber of rule. Joining the Flames had been a start, and becoming a priestess of Halone had been a great honor, but Sultansworn? Surely an opportunity she could not pass up. Her reply letter is in fine flowing calligraphy, inked in what was surely expensive ink.

I love Ul'dah because of its aesthetic and its desert setting. I love 'desert jewel' type settings, like Ul'dah, Sentinel (from Elder Scrolls), and Tattooine.
-
Okay. Go ahead and register on our forums, if you would please, so we have your name on file and can look you up the next time an officer is online.
-
Your warrior character would probably make a good fit for the Knights of the Spiral Eye. They're an order of warriors that basically hunt down Eorzea's dangerous criminals, and also delve into tombs and ruins in search of artifacts to preserve Eorzea's history. You can find more info in the Linkshell hall, or visit our forums.

Added a new one, utilizing my animu style.
-
A Linkshell to organize players of nobles would probably be a really good thing. Could interface with some other people to throw social events, etc., maybe come up with some intrigue RP. I would be 100% behind this.
-
Sort of. We're in a game where we ride giant chickens and shoot fireballs out of our asses.
-
I stand corrected regarding Ul'dah, though I disagree with how Squeenix is using the term "noble" and "lord" in their lore. I think it's worthwhile to point out that it might not be wise to RP a member of the Syndicate, considering how very much power that would entail; it would border on god moding and certainly would lean towards "sue"-ish. I'm sorry but I have to say it. You're disagreeing about how Squeenix uses terms in their own game, based on their own made up world?
-
I think it's also important to denote that "nobility" is sometimes used as an all-encompassing term. Whether or not that is correct is semantic and not worth arguing. But the point is that many characters who claim nobility are simply from very wealthy families. For instance, Llaine's family is not technically, by law, noble. They're just ridiculously wealthy and influential, comparable to nobility.

I restarted FFXIV and it fixed it ^^
-
My main character Llaine is the Ul'dah nobility rosekitten mentioned. She doesn't act like it now, as she leads an order of Knights out of Coerthas, but she is still very much a member of her house and technically nobility. So if you're looking for nobility RP, I would be more than happy to provide some - Llaine is very much capable of setting aside her sword to play high class sophisticate for a little bit.

I'm going to go ahead and offroad a bit here by saying why do we need to label things? Why does there need to be a hierarchy of RP abilities? You're really good at RP, good job. You don't want to RP with someone who barely speaks your language or is generally an obnoxious godmodding twit about. Understandable, go about your business. Or, conversely, you're just starting out, and are unaware of certain conventions/character creation tips/storymaking hints/what have you. Hey, that's cool too. I think no one is above trying to at least push fledgling RPers in the right direction, and if you think you have way too much talent and not enough free time to at least hand down a few tips and tricks to hatchlings, you are an elitist, by definition, and also kind of an asshole. Some RPers are good, some not so good, some fall right in the middle. But making it a pissing contest by labeling some as "elite" and others not as such, is only going to cause friction. RP is a great hobby. It is one I enjoy very much, and I think I'm pretty damn good at it. I love the FFXIV RP community, despite my very short time being here. But at the end of the day, guys, it's still a game, and it's still a hobby. If you're just going to cause more friction and stress with it, why do it at all?

I'll look for you online
