  1. So first we had Broken Chairs, and then Shattered Shins happened.. So I'm curious, since two thirds of the 'rarer races' have dedicated linkshells, should we have an ooc community dedicated to our favorite giraffe necked elfs? This is, of course, if there's much of a community for it. Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places but it seems like Elezen are more hard to come by than Roes and Lalas. So would people want something like this? I know both myself and Tasa would love to have more knife eared pals~
  2. I think a number of people have been using pld as a stand in for when they can use a 2h sword, but for the most part I don't think people who have established themselves as a gladiator or paladin IC will be making the switch. I have a feeling drk will have a different feel to it than pld so people will RP it for different reasons than just wanting to be a dude with a sword. With that being said I'm expecting paladin to be less prominent as the most common class but still be the number 1 due to how sword+shield feels in terms of reflecting a character as opposed to a 2h sword. Sword+Shield has always felt like the do gooder, the defender, the knight in shining armor. 2h sword is going to be more generic mercenary types and those who want to rp "I'm da strongest" without having to level warrior because "omg axes aren't cool like swords." Not to mention just having a sword hanging at your side is kinda classy, can't look classy with a greatsword on your back lol. I could also be totally wrong and we'll see practically nothing but dark knights walking around even if they are just 'a swordsman who likes 2h swords' which I have a feeling most people will be.
  3. As stated previously I typically think it's best to RP it as a burst of aetherial energy. You don't have to be a mage to use aether (Such as how Monks use 'chakra') and the animation rather heavily implies that it's just that. I can see how people would prefer to RP it as shining light in people's eyes, but I think the most consistent version would be a burst of light since in the grand scheme of things it's a parlor trick and unless you're like 100% aetherically inept it's plausible for even a common swordfighter. I think Overpower is in a similar boat. Some classes use aether in ways they don't expect, so while warriors aren't known for being aether users, this one could be similar to the chakra business in monks. They're trained to focus their will into an intensely powerful swing which is more or less the means to have a burst of aetherial energy issue forth from the head or point of impact. That's how I would RP it if I was going to, same with Tomahawk as being written off as my character channeling a large amount of focus into the head of the axe before swinging it towards the target. I just keep it simple and ignore some abilities that don't suit my character in a roleplay sense, although currently that number is basically just two with tomahawk and overpower. If you RP the ability to use aetherytes then I don't think stuff like this is a far stretch even for the most magically inept characters. That is, of course, if they were taught such a thing, but given that Flash is the subject of a quest for gladiators it doesn't seem far fetched that it's a common and very useful ability.
  4. I'm in a similar boat as a few people around here it seems. At launch I rolled, like probably a million other people, a Miqo'te. Because catgirls are cute and I wanted to play something adorable after spending years playing a Tauren or Worgen on WoW. Of course after a month or so I realized that, even though my Limsan accented Miqo'te is actually rather plausible, I just couldn't be part of the millions of miqo'te.. So I used my free fantasia and turned into an Elezen. Problem was I still loved RPing as an axe swinging sailor and decided that I'd just stick with it. So now we have an improperly named Elezen from a city that has none. So began my long journey of justifying it through extensive background and a bit of handwaving. Truthfully I don't think an Elezen kid that got adopted by a captain and his crew is nearly as bad as some things, like a miqo'te/Roegadyn Dragoon for example, but still.. It's far from correct. Would I do things differently if I knew lore from the start? Probably. Do I regret being a special snowflake in that I'm a Limsan accented Elezen who is a warrior? Not really. I've never really had anyone have any beef with it, although I'm sure I've been the subject of a few 'ugh, this guy' style PMs among some groups. So at the end of the day I think RPers that roleplay iregular race/nationalities because they're RPing a favored race+class combo and the class is tied heavily to a city are just victims of lore ignorance. Sure they could change things to be a proper, lore appropriate monk/paladin/dragoon, but we all get attached to our characters~
  5. I always did like playing with/as characters with disabilities, the extra challenge is pretty interesting. If a gruff, rough around the edges elezen is of interest I'm sure Tasa would enjoy meeting your gal.
  6. Hey everyone. I've got a lil lady that could do with some friends. She's short, overly wordy, and magically inclined! If you've got a character that's any of these or would appreciate the company of a pocket sized scholar do reply here or drop me a line in game at Momora Mora. She also may or may not be a straight man looking for someone skilled in one liners. You didn't hear that from me though!
  7. I'm not as into this guy (Maybe guys who knows) as I used to be but this genre is probably as obscure as I can think of without going into like.. Death metal polka electronica. Still, it's pretty harsh and I'm still not sure why I like this, but hey... N1i3jsDggHY S8uoyj9Y7U8 Oh and this for good measure. Completely different genre/band. Longest song ever! LWpwC1p-Ilw
  8. I have kinda noticed it's skewed towards ladies, yeah. I can't tell ya how many events I've been to where it's like 90% cat girls lol. I blame guys liking catgirls or something! For most of the other races I notice a gender balance but miqo'te? Good heavens are there tons of cat girls. (Shaddup I know I'm not helping ;-; )
  9. Man you all really know your stuff, I'm impressed! I probably should not try to analyze names and such when I don't really know much about linguistics or many cultures around the world. I guess in my limited experience I sorta just heard something, mentally, that sounded similar to stuff I was familiar with and made connections. I appreciate all the info though!
  10. So awhile ago I was approached by someone asking me about Keeper related business as well as some naming conventions and something occurred to me. As we all know Miqo'te are not native to Eorzea. From what I've read they came to the land during an ice age where the tundras formed paths for them to follow game. The keepers obviously ended up in the shroud, but that's mostly irrelevant. What is relevant is what we see of Doma. Between Yugiri being the leader of the refugees of Doma as well as there being shinobi of both genders I believe it's safe to say there isn't much gender discrimination within the land. Naturally this could have just been out of necessity but it means that a splinter society shifting to either gender dominating, culturally, isn't terribly farfetched. After all, whatever works, right? It's also obvious that Doma is based on Japanese lore. The furniture purchasable from that area all has Eastern flare and the job of choice of the land is the Ninja. This is quite important as it supports what my recent realization was, (I don't play miqo'te much so I never noticed until now.) Lore wise, many Keeper names are very Japanese sounding. Some examples off the wiki such as Okhi Nbolo and Gota Jaab, as well as my own character's name, Miah Akhabila, have a rather distinct Japanese feel to them. It's also stated that some Keeper family names are practically ancient, dating back to the first astral era, which means the names are relics of where they originate from. So what do you think folks? I do believe somewhere in the lore it states that the miqo'te split up upon arriving to Eorzea to form the two clans which means Miqo'te, not just the keepers of the moon, could potentially trace back to Doma lorewise. Given that Yugiri uses miqo'te animations doesn't hurt my hunch either, but that's probably just a bandaid kinda fix because of Yugiri being the only Au Ra in the game atm.
  11. Greetings Balmung! Today I present to you a wonderful opportunity. Have you, my fair free paladin, ever wished to enforce your will and crack down on an impressionable and young woman? Well I've got some great news. http://i.imgur.com/r77BLj2.png[/img] Meet Miah! She's an eager gladiator who's only claim to fame came from being pretty and marketable. As an aspiring hero of justice she eagerly seeks out the knowledge and skills to fight evil wherever it may be! The only problem exists that the only paladins she runs into are puffy sultansworn, and this keeper ain't about that life! So long story short, I want someone to set up a longer term RP with that will help turn my spunky young gladiator with no skills besides her determination and vigor into a heroic paladin! If interested please reply to this thread or contact me in game. Full name is Miah Akhabila. Thanks~
  12. Netflix is also a good deal for something to keep your mind busy provided you have two screens. I've got dual monitors so it makes leveling crafting/gathering really easy. In terms of leveling stuff to make other things easier, Goldsmith is probably the best to do first imo to get flawless synth. Having something that's just straight +40 on progress means you can 1 button a ton of stuff early on and breeze through. Besides that the only other notable thing from it is the +50% control which is just for HQing stuff. I did GSM first and don't regret it, really. Not to mention making your own accessories for spirit binding is fantastic income and really helps get your next class choice kick started.
  13. Ew Naruto? Lol no. This, One thing to make claws badass, whole nother thing to make a tail badass. Almost looks like scorpion tails. Kinda neat, was mentally picturing a midlander dude in ninja armor with 4 icy fox tails channeling DBZ, but that's just me. I guess the idea of making something unique, if it works, is tempting. I'm still just wondering why, from your character's perspective, if he even has control over it, he would choose to have these extra limbs to fight with instead of just like.. Great swords coming out of his arms. Seems like something that would require some training since I doubt fighting with them is as easy as throwing in a few extra twirls while swinging around whatever weapon it is your character has chosen for himself. Especially true if your character uses a spear or something. I can see him standing a good few yards out of his spear length then suddenly channeling the energy down the hilt for unexpected bursts of range. Hmm.. Sounds kinda like a black mage with a polearm, now that'd be a sight~ Jumplars live again!
  14. I guess Tasa falls under that. Given the nature of warriors lore wise and ability wise I feel like RPing as the job or class is really just a matter of how you swing your axe. It's my interpretation that those who consider themselves marauders are general rough and tumble, "I'll kill you before you kill me" kind of fighters that favor a big heavy axe for smashing and crashing. Meanwhile warriors, from what I gather, are more disciplined and focused. They view it as something of a lifestyle, since it's my understanding that warriors emerged from a the Roegadyn Hellsguard tribes of the mountains I assume it's almost a cultural thing. Of course there's the element of that "inner beast" but such a thing is rather easily explainable and could be seen as a spiritual element more than anything else. I suppose asking about the mundane members of the RPC will result in a mixed bag of ideas of what mundane really means. I think Tasa is pretty unexciting or not super special but other people may think the fact she's a hulking tower of muscle and steel is totally crazy!
  15. Here comes the fun police. I am one of those people that has a sort of mental 'point chart' for my characters. Based on age and back story I figure I allow a character a certain amount of skills and varying levels of proficiency. I'll use my own character for an example. Tasa is about 45 years old. She's been swinging an axe for about 30 of them and has killed a lot of people and survived a lot of shit to get where she is. So.. She gets a lot of points, but only for combat stuff. To make it simple, let's say she has 30 points. 1 for each year she was active. It takes 10 points to be a master of something soo.. 10 into axing stuff, 10 into being strong, and 10 in the 'I can take a hit and keep going' thing. This also plays into her being a warrior IC and having this inner beast that further compliments the kind of character I want to create. She's a hulking berserker that can pretty much level an army with an axe... And little else. She knows jack about fist fighting, can't shoot a bow worth a damn, and is useless for magic. Onto the topic at hand. I view these kinds of things as "Unfair points" that get added to a character. You not only have your original abilities, but you also have this Deus ex Machina feeling ability that could be seen as a 'I don't feel like losing' thing. I appreciate you're using it mostly for PvE, but if you tried to pull this on me in an IC fight I'd probably have a few questions for you. Also.. This is just a personal note, but why tails? It just... I dunno, I guess Naruto has really soured the whole tail thing but I just see it as one of those anime tropes that kinda just feels forced. If they were these hard, deadly claws or blades along his body, it'd seem more fitting.. But tails? Ultimately, it is your choice to add what you want to your character and, trust me, we all add silly things from time to time that make us happy. That's the real point, enjoy yourself. I'm someone who enjoys realistic, easy to balance characters because I like a good text fight once in awhile. If you enjoy something more epic and anime and memorable, good on ya~! It's just not really my thing.
  16. Why did I not notice this while doing the opening quests in Limsa like 4 times?! What I get for skipping dialogue boxes. I think I found a new hang out spot for my salty mouthed Elezen.
  17. So, given a certain elezen is painfully single I think Tasa would try to get a meeting as soon as she hears about this service. Provided Grace is still accepting clients. Not like the knife eared murder hobo can't wait for an opening~
  18. Excuse me if its been covered already but i think everyone misses the biggest point against Dragoons. They can jump, they can fight, they're good at their job. Why is irrelevant, i have one qualm with them. "Why are you in Ul'dah" Dragoons are not super rare, but they're trained exclusively by Ishgard and they covet this training. They're also shown to be quite xenophobic and closed off in lore. Dragoon rpers either have to have forsaken Ishgard(unlikely if you've dedicated your life to becoming one of its greatest protectors) and hide that side of themselves or break lore. That's why i don't like Dragoon rpers, has nothing to do with their fancy combat or really silly armor.
  19. The lone brass blade is free all day errday because summer. Say when and I'll show up!
  20. Hello everyone! This is a question that's been burning in my mind lately and I'd like to hear some other opinions from people like you. The basic idea is, "Is death the only end or should one's character eventually retire?" Here's a little background knowledge. Tasa is a very particular kind of character. She was written to be an older, experienced character looking for something specific to do. While she didn't achieve all of the goals I wanted to do with her, through an extended storyline she reached a good deal of closure about herself and her past deeds. But she's still walking around. Naturally roleplaying is a community effort and I've got lots of great friends who I'm sure love the character. Ultimately though things feel aimless lately. So if placed in this situation what would you do? Would you merely keep going looking for another storyline to keep the action fresh or would your character hang up their axe/sword/whatever and retire to make way for the next adventurer to take up the reigns?
  21. I always love seeing realistic takes on weapons in fantasy games. A proper fighter should certainly learn a few things about the weapon they pick to RP with. Since I RP exclusively as a warrior IC I've gotta know my axes. Problem is, axes in the real world vs axes in fantasy are so different. A man by the title of Lindybeige does some wonderful videos on ancient weaponry and the one on axes as shown below tell them being very small, hatchet like things. boioSxBIkfk So ultimately we have to improvise and enjoy ourselves yes? Clearly axes are smashing weapons, so they're naturally slow but extremely powerful which you highlighted well but I wonder why you mention a Labrys typically being lighter than a war axe. Usually a labrys, at least in game, has blades comparable in size to a war axe. I'm sure a Bravura isn't nearly as heavy as say.. Conqueror, so I feel they might be the quintessential "1 hit KO" weapons where as a war axe is more balanced and has the advantage of the hook since many Labrys designs do not have such a thing. This is also completely personal opinion but I'm curious to hear why you feel axes have an advantage against lances. Perhaps it's merely my style but I roleplay that the axe has a very distinct effective range and anything within it is at a disadvantage. This includes most gladiators and pugilists because while swinging the blade close to oneself isn't going to have much force the blades are still sharp and can cause slashing damage. Lancers, however, have an effective range larger than an axe and can poke and zone an axe user by standing their ground properly. This is also based on the fact that polearms were the most widely used weapon in medieval times because of the range advantage they imposed on other melee combatants.
  22. I heard there was a need for Highlander women, so Hilde was happy to help~ And of course a trip to the beach wouldn't be complete without Tasa, right?
  23. Hey everyone! Due to some IC business Tasa is currently going to be hanging around Gridania for a few days. While I certainly welcome anyone who might want to meet this weathered warrior lady in retirement, I'm looking specifically for Gridanian natives to make friends with and help ease Tasa into the culture she never knew. Other Elezen are quite adored but really anyone from around here would be lovely. I've also got a minor idea in mind for a seasoned conjurer should someone of that background find their paths crossed with Tasa. Either way, looking forward to meeting some new faces. I'm online quite a lot so just sending a tell in game to Tasa Rhyzul is probably the best way to reach me. Thanks for reading~!♥
  24. Elezen Name: Arianne Leclerc, goes by Tasa however. Elezen Clan: Wildwood Gender: Female Timezone: GMT-5, East Coast Does your character fit the 'common' lore of your elezen or are they singular? - Tasa is a singular Elezen. She's completely ignorant of her family, culture, etc. She's been raised by a Sea Wolf, it shows. What are your Rp limits, if any? - Generally not a fan of people killing my character without permission. Otherwise everything else is fair game.
