Just imagine the pretty blonde White Mage in her avatar reading the post to you and you'll realize she's not capable of hostile. xDD

She always seems to work in bursts.

Legacy characters could only transfer to other Legacy servers, not the non-Legacy servers. While I suspect that this will change in future, at the moment we're confined to Legacy servers.

Cheers for your post. It was very neutral, no sides taken, and has managed not to upset me as most of these topics do. xDD So kudos and thank you for being tactful! I'm also speaking with bias, as my home has been Besaid/Balmung from the get-go, however looking at it from an outsider's point of view I still see perks. More roleplayers in one place means more RP, which is why so many of us are passionate about keeping the RPers united on Balmung, to the point of rudeness at times (o/). I have quite a few friends who are new and are starting with us on Balmung, as well as many returning ones. I think that the environment we've created is welcoming and open to new RPers because we WANT new RPers. More people, more connections, more potentially awesome RP. If we wanted to RP with the same old people (the same "cliques") all the time, we could go hide in our established LS's and close recruitment off. But we don't. We want this new blood, we want to RP with them, and if they desire it, we are glad to help them with their characters and the lore, to help them level, to progress WITH them through the content, as the legacy characters still have to re-do all the content in ARR.. hell, many of us are even starting our characters over ourselves (I'll be playing an 'alt' of my character so that I can re-experience and relearn my jobs while not missing out on RP, and doing content on my main version of her x3). Plus, many of the posters you see with join dates in 2010 left the game shortly after release, or played on and off during the time when 1.0 was up, so this is as new to them as any of the new members. On the opportunity side of things, and the ability to make your own mark: there are very few "established" linkshells that are making the transition from 1.0 to ARR, to be honest. Most of the linkshells at the end of 1.0 were dead, so there are plenty of niches to fill as far as LS's go. I think TALE and Crystalline were two of the like.. three still active RPLS's at the end of 1.0. So I still see plenty of opportunity on Balmung. I hope that you're able to make a decision you're happy with, whichever you choose. Both servers would welcome you and your group with open arms, no doubt about it.

Best way to officially petition for looping music?
Aysun replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I too was disappointed by how often the music faded out to just ambient noise in ARR. I would assume that a topic on the beta forums would be the best place to try. Get as many likes as you can! But.. put it in the actual feedback section, when they're taking feedback! -
[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
Aysun replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Several people have questioned as to why, if Gilgamesh is not the chosen server anymore, Balmung is not an option. I think if someone acknowledged them and tried to answer that it could go back on topic. -
[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
Aysun replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
The Balmung RP community is small as-is, and we're bleeding people here. Now I know some people on Gilgamesh see this as a good thing because they're catching the people we're losing. I'm going to go ahead and say what Aysun didn't, though she alluded to by the quote. Itallicized for emphasis, too. Balmung players do -not- see this as a good thing. We do not want the Gilgamesh(Or whatever server) community to fail. If people don't want to play on Balmung, if they want to be on another server as a community, us on Balmung, generally speaking, want them to do well. In no way is the 'bleeding of players' a good thing, rather it be from us who're catching the lost ones, or the Gil-community who is losing them. I think, all the Balmung players are saying is that all of the issues with the Gil server won't be an issue on Balmung, and that the Balmung players have always, and will always, welcome those from the other servers with open arms. Strength in numbers, as others have said. A community united, is a community strong.. A community split, is not. This isn't some sort of.. Competition though. Balmung isn't trying to compete with the other servers to get more RPers.. Five or five hundred, we'll be on Balmung regardless. Now, I'm not attempting to derail the conversation further - Though it may be seen as that. All I'm attempting to do is to stop the idea that Balmung has some sort of dislike towards those not playing on its server. No more perpetuation of that concept. Edit: Ha. Just noted Aysun's alteration of words. Sly woman, you. My point still stands. I may or may not have stolen the idea. -

[Gilgamesh] Why not Behemoth as our non-legacy server?
Aysun replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
What do you mean by 'lock?' Is that like a limit to how many characters can exist on a server? Is that... is that really a thing? I thought high population servers in most MMOs just had queue times to get in during peak hours. It's a thing but usually the population locks only happen at launch and last a few days before the server opens again. -

Then that tells me that "we" did not actually make a decision. It was made like 3 years ago.. These people weren't there for it. x_x; When it became an issue recently we pointed out that those on Balmung literally COULDN'T move if they WANTED to, nor was there a good reason to move the RP community to a different server, and they still wanted to be on a server other than Balmung for various reasons. -
Well... not exactly. The linked dev post indicates that she's a Seeker, but that she might have a genetic anomaly resulting in Keeper features, or that she has some Keeper blood. EDIT: It's true that she could be a full-blooded Keeper taken in by the Seekers, but that's just one possibility from the dev post. Societally, "(w)e know for certain that F'lhaminn was raised as a Seeker of the Sun..." Likely she is a Keeper of the Moon raised by Seekers. She has absolutely no Seeker traits other than her name.

*tries to hold back the rant about why people can't just get over the server name pride thing and go to a SINGLE server* This is why we need Squee... freaking humans. We suck at making group decisions. We made a decision (Besaid/Balmung).. some people just want to run their own communities. *Secondary. >>;; -
Welcome! Unfortunately, after many proddings of SE, we still don't have a designated official RP server. The primary unofficial server is actually Balmung, not Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh's community was established due to a subset of players who wanted to start fresh rather than join the community on Balmung (because it is a "Legacy" server). However, many new RPers are joining us on Balmung, and many of our "Legacy" players are starting over, so don't let the fact that it's Legacy deter you. Whatever server choice you make (or if you decide to go both, like some people), I hope you enjoy XIV RP.

How awesome! I like your style!

Thanks Aysun! Even updated the post with a more exact date.

around the 10th Sun of 6th Astral Moon (November), 1572. Whether or not this date is canon with SE's timeline is disputable.

Alright I think I got it thanks! So I can join a FC and have multiple linkshell, but wouldn't that sort of conflict with each other? Like say I wanted to join FC "green dragon" for example and a linkshell "Fire mole", could I divide time equally between them without ruining lore or neglecting one for the other? Sorry if I'm being confusing, just a lot to take in :dazed: Well, the don't conflict unless you let them. Linkshell chatter shows up in your window, but you can filter it out if you want. You can switch between them and talk. But if your Linkshell has an event planned on the same night as your FC, there will be conflict then of course! So basically any conflicts would be OOC. IC, it's completely normal for a character to carry multiple linkpearls for communication with family and friends, as well as their employer, etc.

I could be wrong but I kind of remember seeing a Miqo'te in the Arcanist Guild where you can see them... I assume training their Carbuncles. Besides, while it's likely to say that the majority of Miqo'te are not inclined to higher intellectual pursuits, if we as players can break the mold of the norm there is nothing that says that generations before us were not capable of it as well. Personally I think it could be really cool to see characters that might fit the naming conventions but don't fall into the societal norms for their race. I know. I just like to see reasons for not following x convention. Which most people are more than likely to have! To be honest I only speak somewhat defensively because at times I kind of feel a bit like a turd for using the orphan trope as an excuse to play a Miqo'te like an Elezen. FOR SHAMEEEEE ..My Miqo'te is very Hyurish in her interests due to her upbringing. But I also have the 1.0 excuse. x_x But the thing is, they are still Miqo'te and still have those underlying traits that make them such. While Aysun acts more Hyurish than most Miqo'te, I could not roll her a Hyur and have her make any sense whatsoever. Her race is still a part of her personality.

Do like. Reasons are GOOD! Also, the character creator / benchmark is now out! Get your butt over to it and make her!

Welcome! While I don't associate Miqo'te with umm.. arcanist/researchy stuff, there's always the ones who break the mold. Immerse yourself in the lore and have fun! I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Hit up the artisan house forum and show us your stuff! We're a bunch of art whores here. I mean.... There are a lot of talented people here already, and the rest of us who can't manage it looove to see what you all can do!

Free Companies are "guilds" in the words of other MMOs. Keep in mind that we have in-game guilds as well, such as the Archers' Guild, Adventurers' Guild, etc, so we don't really call FCs guilds in XIV. Confusion would ensue. You are allowed to join one FC, and there are in-game perks associated with it (housing, rankings, some other stuff we don't know of yet). Linkshells are actual items that exist in Eorzea that are used to communicate over distances. Think of them like a constant conference call. They're small enough to be worn on an earring and you are able to speak to other pearl-holders and hear them in return. In 1.0, these were all we had. They are used OOCly for social and endgame purposes, though I suspect more endgame pearls will be going to FCs, and ICly as ways to communicate with each other!
