1. This sums up my point exactly. I feel like I owe Rhio a few bucks for writing it. But yeah, guns are a big deal if you're not a Barracuda. Ryanti's father has one, but there's a whole entire tale about how he got it, and in his backstory, when the gun goes off (very rarely) it has that 'big deal, holy shit' feeling to it. Outside of Limsa, I would imagine guns to be similar to lightsabers after Vader, very rare, cherished my collectors, and highly prized. If Musketeer does get introduced, one could probably write it off as innovations in technology that allows for mass produced firearms to become more available in the marketplace.
2. This quote interested me. I understand that some individuals would find this to be a dillema. But since I never really got started in RP for FFXIV 1.0, and quit after a few months, I found a way to manuvear around it. Basically having that happen when Ryanti was still young enough to be with his parents, and having that time zone involve the later end of Lorenthian's (Ryanti's dad) story, and part of Ryanti's backstory. I'm about 70% done with the events their family goes through. Because of Lorenthian's retreat and Ryanti not going anywhere near that battlefield, both of them had to put up with the five years. It actually fits in really nicely by present day. I have a solid backstory on why I would pick any city, which gives me OOC freedom to make the decision. It's all just a matter of having that hard time and how your character goes about that hard time and figuring out what happens to them during those five years if your character was 'new'. Obviously they would of had lived before the event too so that's your chance to have some backstory as well. I used the excuse of Ryanti being young and whatnot so he wasn't 'around' in 1.0 as far as adventuring. EDIT: Also, it should be noted lorewise that everyone who was teleported was a 'hero'. Or at least that's how they described it. The 'heroes' that fought. So if your character isn't exactly a brave soul , or a heroic warrior yet... well you have that dillema.
3. Their marketing has been the fault of everything about them not making money. They expect tons of revenue while at the same time, not spending a dime on advertising over here. I mean, what do they expect? Though with Graces, it wasn't really... like a major thing, like Vesperia was. No one in the fanbase were really jumping for joy over it. Didn't Vesperia sell 500k here? I don't remember. But that's a large figure for a game with 0 advertising. But anyway. You're forgetting that a good chunk of XIII-2's sales were worldwide, and Xilia hasn't been released worldwide, so while XIII-2 probably has passed Xilia by now, I wouldn't make an assumption until Xilia has also released worldwide. Though beating them in the first week is a big friggin' deal too.
4. Wow, I wasn't expecting a response like that. I kind of grew up with that studio being a separate entity. Didn't know it changed but the previous games were made in conditions like that. I wasn't talking about XIII by the way, I was talking about XIII-2, which is the most recent title that came out the same year as Xilia. http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2011/12/22/final-fantasy-xiii-2-beaten-by-tales-final-fantasy-is-dead/ Though I'm not surprised about what apparently happened to the studio. I never liked Bandai. They don't understand the concept of advertising over here. I see you have less faith in it then I do but my point remains the same. Most people underestimate those games.
5. This message goes out to everyone, not just to her, because I believe it is important enough of a message to be worth reading. If you haven't played them before, I recommend Vesperia. It's a violent introduction to the series, but it'll effect you in the most positive way imaginable. Each Tales name is like a Final Fantasy. They are all completely different. The only things they share is the gameplay style. The Tales games encompass everything about my style of storytelling perfectly... They have meditative, dreamy, romantic, idealistic, and ethereal worlds that are extremely creative in design and highly desirable to live in. Unlike most worlds in RPG's nowadays, the worlds in the Tales series are hopeful, optimistic, and actually increases your faith in humanity. Their stories are ultra-long, enriched in detail of the backstory and history of the world. The plot itself is full of twists and turns, yet the pacing remains a delicate uphill and downhill pace, and the slice of life aspect of character development remains through the implementation of skits (which no one ever really does in any other series) therefore making character development ultra-realistic, to the point where you feel like you're living alongside the characters. Each character in the party, in all of the series are equally strong, important, relevant, and likable. They all have deep, intricate backstories that are told in a brilliant symphony of events and situations that pull at your gut and scream at your empathy. The villains are brilliantly well-played, each with their own motivations, philosophies, points of view, and ways of handling things that'll throw you off guard and blow your mind, yet in the end, all making sense. A good villain is someone you love to hate. A great villain is someone whom you feel sorry for. A perfect villain is someone who makes sense, who's point of view, dare you think of it, you actually agree with. Tales games somehow do all of this at once. The games are called 'Tales of', in other words, 'The Tales and Stories of 'x''. The plot is so adventurous and everlasting, that normally people confuse the ending of the game once or twice before actually beating it. The Director of this series is an absolute storytelling prodigy genius of a man, who's underrated in the gaming industry, even as the newest Tales game (Xilia), outsells Final Fantasy. He refuses to sell out to any major studio, including his own publishers, and his studio, the Namco Tales Studio, have their own building independent from Namco, a staff handpicked from the best of the best, with a blank check. It's an elite group, making elite games, not appealing to everyone, but appealing to two different groups of people. People who enjoy the highest standard of storytelling, and people who want to escape to worlds they'd be dying to live in. I have seen and experienced many, many, many, many, many games/stories/anime/ish... and the Tales series stands above them all, on a whole different pedestal. Most people I refer the game to don't believe me and don't try. Or are reluctant. Every single person that has later picked up Vesperia, for example.. and took up on my offer, I literally could not get a hold of them for multiple days, and they came back to me saying 'thank you' over and over, a million times, and I would just say "Well, you trusted my word. I mean what I say." The Tales games changed my life. Made me finally understand that all of this... information in my head, darting back and forth, spawning and fading away.. all of it, and the Tales games 'matched'. And I had that spiritual awakening. I now knew.. who I was. As a writer. I found my creative identity through those games. When I lost, it found me, and by fate I played it, and now I live it, and I wish to share it with anyone who will just.. trust me, and take the leap. Have I convinced you? Word of mouth is the most powerful weapon the Tales games have, and it's working.
6. That's pretty much the best you can do. My mission in-game is to aim towards approximation. I don't tend to gravitate towards not having a hairstyle until I actually get inside the game. It limits my creativity and what I can do. My opinion differs from a few of you. For me, hairstyle is an incredibly useful tool for self expression. I tend to be careful with my character's hair, and I sculpt it as I would the features of his face, and the shape of his body. The difference is, one's hair is much more easily changed, so it's a much more common medium of expression. I have Ryanti's hair the way it is because that's who he is. It gives you gut feeling of who he is, what kind of person he is, what kind of radiance his aura gives off. If I were to shave him bald, your impression of him would be completely different, if not heavily, then slightly, which makes a lot of different when you're trying to be precise and focused with your character design. I also believe that promoting my character's image via artwork and vivid description and consistently providing that access to people is another way to attune others to your character's looks. For example, if you look at my avatar every day, chances are, when you imagine Ryanti, you imagine that hairstyle. Once I start getting official sketches of Ryanti, it'll probably either be in my sig or my avatar. People tend to catch on to those kinds of looks. Then once they are in-game, that perception doesn't change. One assumes someone would pick approximation when it came to hairstyles, and 'did what they can within the scope of the game'.
7. *edit* It's best I leave it this way. I'll come up with a safe post later on.
8. Expect something from me soon then. Don't worry, I'll leave references and be completely thorough with my descriptions.
9. ((I have decided to include transcripts if your monitor cannot clearly read the words since I was silly and accidently made the words in bold. It is in spoiler tags on the bottom. ))
10. That lantern is not there for light. It is there for murder.
11. Oh! I'm technically taking them again, the wait is just a little long. It's difficult to say. I jump between all the pictures often, because if I work on just one too long, I get a little stagnant. x3 But you're more than welcome to make a request! Does that mean I can get in line?
12. Nice to know I'm not the only person sticking his head out. Welcome back.
13. Seeing a lot of excellent music choices here. So, I get to paint my character in a picture with song? Sounds amazing. Let me take a shot at it then. I'll try to capture all of his moods and feelings. 15. Seems like you have an interesting life story, Lil. Welcome to the madhouse.
16. Not complaining either. Even though Graces doesn't live up to the other big four (Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, Xilia), it's still a damn good game.
17. I heard the battle system was the best thing about that game. I also heard that game was made to test new features for future games.
18. Tales of Graces is kind of a... side thing, really. It's not really up to standard with the mothership games. Tales of Vesperia changed my life, it was that significant for me. It allowed me to figure out exactly what I wanted out of stories, which had been a huge passion of mine for all of my life. It was also a very highly well-done story, written by a genius. I could say most Tales are something else. On a higher plane. I look up to Mr. Saguchi. I want to be like him.
19. Been quite a while, hasn't it? I found this picture of Ciel Phantomhive to be lovely. Ryanti's hairstyle is pretty much exact to this. Notice how the cut looks boyish. There are polite hairlines, and nice trim. However, there is a bit of hair experiencing growth, this flare of growth has an essence of expressing oneself, especially in one's life cycle of being a late teenager. Also, his eyes. They seem weary, tired, struggling. But they also sparkle with vigor, a vigor that doesn't give up, a vigor that wants something new, wants change, and can't wait for new experiences brought onto himself because of his life opening up. I have no official picture of Ryanti yet. However, the concept is the same regarding the aura of his character, and what kind of emotion he gives off.
20. Wb, Ryanti~ Agreed here, except insert *girl*. I am also a college student who spends way more time day dreaming in class than paying attention to the core content..I like to live by the quotes, "Feet on the ground, head in the clouds." and "She's a dreamer and she knows it." ^^ Once a day dreamer, always a lover of fantasy. I too, have always held Final Fantasy at a high standard. Growing up watching my brother play the games and then playing through them myself brings one to a whole other world. It feels more comfortable. You sir, seem like such an interesting individual. I look forward to meeting you in Eorzea~ I'm very pleased at the direction this place is going, and the new members it has attained in the process. As for yourself, Taltale, you seem to enjoy the word 'Tale'. That reminds of my favorite series of mine.. fills my head with positive thoughts. You sound like a very attuned, pleasant individual, and I am pleased that you posses empathy of me. It really works towards making me feel I belong here, that this is my family. I look forward to any endeavors we experience together. ______________________ Oh, and as for you, Kerr... 'sup.
21. Thanks, man. That helps a lot. Also, if you can find any sort of article on the history of the city states, or wars, things like that, historic events, that would be amazing.
22. Can anyone give me, like a... synopsis of what's happened since October? I feel a little overwhelmed, looking at all of this new stuff.
23. Bumping, for the sake of needing more feedback from newer members of this site. I'm not sure if mind sets have changed since I disappeared or ... well, I'm just a curious cat, aren't I.
