  1. >.< I see X'vett in the Quicksand all the time and I'm always too shy to random rp. I should go up and rp with yah sometime  ...but none of my characters are interesting enough to merit a song
  2. DARK KNIGHT DARK KNIGHT DARK KNIGHT I want it soooo bad for my elezen Juste. He's modeled after a dark knight and practically -was- one at the big battle in Carteneau. I would be complete if they announced it. >.< I want it soooo bad. And as much as I love Dracula stuff, screw that trailer. I'm so sick of the old guy telling me I have no idea what the true story of Dracula is everytime I try and watch a youtube video. >.> Maybe I don't know the true story, but when I wanna watch my cute puppy compilations, I don't need to hear old creepy guy telling me I don't know the true story. Maybe I need ad blocker. /endrant
  3. Hehe~ I need to make a macro to make it look cooler. But I naturally pop a Fist of Wind or Fire and time it right. Go Kamen Rider Punch-Cat! Now he just needs a helmet~
  4. I usually use the past installments of Final Fantasy as a guide to how far I should take things in my own rp. Of course I won't have my character breaking his limit all the time or switching paradigms on the fly (He's only broken his limit once), but he does have a special ring that lets him transform/henshin into his end-game armour. It started as a joke, but no one's corrected me so far >.< and I think it's fun. Mostly I just got too lazy to run out of the room to "change" clothes in a semi-realistic manner. Again, he doesn't change his clothes like that all the time, and has only one set he ever changes into. I watch alot of Kamen Rider >.< I thought it was appropriate because while Caen wants to be a hero, he doesn't get very serious and even when he's fighting, it's a little silly. e8SdLMokUHs I do like to have him take damage realistically. Like if he loses a roll in an awful sort or gets really hurt in a fight, I'll rp the injuries he sustained. There was one time he was even temporarily paraplegic due to some damage to his spine. I might be a little extreme there, but even in a fantasy world, I don't think aether is so powerful that it can instantly fix major wounds like that. If that were the case, I'm sure there wouldn't be so much strife out of the warzone in XIV. I have an elezen alt that I feel could pull Advent Children/Dissidia style fighting at the peak of his power, but a lot of that, if I ever rp it, is saved for some really dramatic and appropriate rp. It's not cool if you pull out the big guns in every fight, right? Final Fantasy has always had it's heart-pounding cinematic moments and it's cool to see them in XIV.
  5. Ohhh jeeze... my characters are SUPER cliche though. I'd like to think I pull it off well. Normally when I start any mmo, I am too excited to research the lore beforehand and make my main have amnesia. It's hilariously overdone, and I know it. I will say though, the rp has been really, really good. Maybe I was lucky enough to run into some fantastic rpers to help me play it out. A story can seldom be woven well with only one person of course. As it happens, my character had a mini-event with friends wherein it was explained why he lost his memories and then another rper was able to use his power over the Elementals to summon his memory back. It really was a beautiful moment. Honestly I really like the orphan route too. You have to wonder why Disney kills off one or both parents of the main protagonist. It causes inner strife and a need to prove themselves. Parents are a child's safety net and it causes a void in the son or daughter when they are estranged or pass away. Then all their decisions and consequences are fully on them. It's dramatic and brings out some good story-telling if you can do it right. Plus, with that big war wherein a giant dragon came out of a moon and laid siege to the world, you might have more than a handful of characters that have lost a large number of family members. The orphan angle might be over-used, but I like to think it is legit most of the time.
  6. Normally I would say you can rp however you like... ...but if anyone were to come up and start saying the word "Kawaii" to me, I'd cringe and leave. :frustrated: The magical girl/super sentai is popular in Japan, and definitely has a following over in the states and Europe, so it's not out of the question for you to have a magical girl-esq character. Understand however, that there will be quite a few people that you will run into that might not understand what you're doing. I would challenge you to put a Final Fantasy spin on it; If you try to rp as a cookie cutter magical girl, a lot of people might be a little put off or might wonder if you are seriously rping like that. One of my own characters has an IC henshin and I think I've only been bashed verbally by non-rpers... but there have been some rp instances where rpers around my character don't understand. Just be wary, okay? Have fun though! :moogle:
  7. I'd be interested, mostly for hilarity because my miqo'te is not very adept at writing at all.
  8. I've got an ex-resistance member who's been looking for some pay back. Am definitely there if my schedule lets me!
  9. Ohhhh OHH!! I wanna put mine down~! For Caen I have: ~Amber Dawn~ Level 1: Tusslin' Wiff Muh Mitts! Caen backflips and sprints towards the enemy, punching the enemy in a 360 degree pattern while using chakra to make his yellow shirt glow brightly like the sun to blind the enemy. 20% chance to cast Mantra for free. Level 2: Earth, Wind, and Fire! Caen fills his body with raging chakra and summons an aura which expands outward; simultaneously casts Fists of Earth, Fists of Wind, and Fists of Fire granting the entire party the benefits of each buff for 17 seconds. Level 3: Chocobo Fandango! Caen takes a deeeeep breath and whistles loudly, summoning a horde of stampeding chocobos to rush at the enemy or enemies, doing damage to all of them! :chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo::chocobo:
  10. Aww. . . I was still waiting to get in. Well I'll try to get in to the next Ishgard group. Hope you are doing okay Kat~ I'll totally be on-board for the next LS rps~ :moogle:
  11. I think this sound like a pretty fun idea! I suppose the only question is the manner of your pricing, y'know? You might need to survey some prices on the exchange before selling, if you want to undercut the competition or give your customers a good deal. I suppose that bit is up to you~ ill be sure to look for ya in game!:moogle:
  12. Usually I combat rp with someone I trust, but in the event of stranger combat rp I'll use rolz. Mostly it's a emote war (within reason) when it's without rolz. But in that case, usually the winner and loser of the fight is dictated beforehand, or until someone "decides" to lose. Usually it's me It'll be a lot cooler in 2.4 I think. I hear we're actually getting a /roll to roll a digital die~
  13. Wah! This guy!!! He got all pissed because I was playing a non-adventurer too. Least I think it was this guy. L-name and got pissy about my poor little guy not being an adventurer. >.> If he hadn't gotten his panties in a twist he would've figured there was a -reason- the person I was rping wasn't an adventurer. Tbh it really bummed me out and I was in a gross mood all day. >.<
  14. I don't see too much of an issue. As long as you don't over-do it, you know. I.e. make it sound as though you've invented the job or anything. I like to kinda gamble and pre-rp classes that I think will be in game. I rp my alt as if he was a Black Knight, for example, but because of events in the past he smashed his weapon. That way, by the time I could say he re-forges it, the expansion for Black Knight will come out. Here's hoping anyway~ But I never come out and say that's what he is, just sort of heavily imply it. It'll make the story that much more powerful when SE provides the means. It seems like they're saving the popular classes for the paid expansion too. Like, everyone likes Red Mage. . . SE probably picked up on that and wants some of your monies for it :3 Never lose hope!~ :moogle:
  15. Sometimes I like watching roleplay. I'd rather be in it of course. Sometimes when the room feels right I'll emote to myself and see if the other rpers are interested in me joining. The only time I've really noticed it distracting is when someone not rping with you is standing awkwardly close or in the middle of two people having a conversation. Or just standing close and staring. In a public setting it's awkward. . .and it's a wee bit awkward in rp too. . .especially if they start remarking on the rp without capitalizing letters. :moogle:
  16. I joined Balmung and I love it. I find it super easy to get into rp. Just head to a tavern and see if you can engage in some in the Quicksand. I dunno how it is in Gilgamesh, but the Quicksand is really active. The Wench and the Canopy aren't so active except on the weekends. >.< You'll fit right in, I bet! Everyone is really friendly. :moogle:
  17. For Caen I always hear him as Antony Del Rio. He was Pit in Kid Icarus: Uprising. But Caen has a light accent. . . and Pit doesn't. So Honestly I'm still unsure >.< For my elezen alt Juste I feel he'd be perfect being voiced by Liam O'Brien. He voiced Akihiko in Persona 3 and I'm pretty sure also Kain Highwind in Final Fantasy Dissida. I found a video for him. dFAyXI2HP9M
  18. Ohhh I'm always up for saving the worlld. Or in this case, Ul'dah. My schedule changes alllll the time. . .so me being there is up to luck. But I'd really enjoy coming~ :moogle:
  19. I think i'm too dedicated in rp. Like, for example, Caen was shoved off one of the high walls of Camp Dragonhead and then a Goobbue got ahold of him and brought him to his cave because he liked the colour of his clothes. Because of the initial impact and the cold weather, it was discovered that he couldn't move his legs or tail. I actually sat him in the same bed he was brought to until he was able to get a really skilled healer to ment the spinal damage. . . which lasted like. . . a week and a half I think? He only moved when someone carried him somewhere else. There was another time SOMEONE dumped a bucket of water over him to wake him up, then walked off. So Caen was shivering in the nooks of Pearl Lane trying to get warm when people found him and I made a few friends. Nothing too crazy, but I rped like that for a good bit. I'll shoot off emotes even when no one is around, just for my own entertainment~ I honestly like dedication in rp as if makes the rp feel all that more real to me~ There are, of course, players that wanted me to just have some magical npc walk in after an hour and make him all better. . . but in my eyes that would be kinda lazy. I dunno. I like that you did such agonizingly embarrassing stuff on your character! >.< I dunno if I could do anything like that, and I'm super hardcore about rp dedication. :moogle:
  20. Welcome to the game and to Balmung! We've got lots of good people here >. If you're looking at playing a miqo'te I would definately look at their lore for ideas. I'm trying to look for my lore page as I type this. It's also a good idea (since you're brand new) to get some rp ideas from playing the main storyline in the game~ Oh before I forget, here's some lore pages! http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Seekers_of_the_Sun & http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Keepers_of_the_Moon Ohhh and if you REALLY what some lore on what happened in the game's lore, here's this link to a giant lore page that someone fabulous pieced together! It's really big. . . and even I haven't read it all. . . but it's super magnificent and fun to have just in case. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1615 I hooope this helps. . . I would add more but I gotta head to work in 5 hours~ See you in-game! And again, welcome! :moogle:
  21. Welcome to the game! See you at the Quicksand~ :moogle:
  22. :moogle: Sorry, I'm from Balmung~ But if you need Lore on XIV, I found this! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=1615 Good luck!
  23. :moogle: Yay! So glad you found someone! It's such a great game and the Balmung community has some fantastic people to rp with~!
  24. Oh oh! I know this one! 1. I totally have an entire SOUNDTRACK for each character saved on my computer for different situations. I even shamelessly share them when I'm rping with people in game and they're on skype, just to show what mood I'm setting. I think its a fun step and makes the rp feel that much more awesome! 2. I usually try to remain constant with injuries in rp. I might go a step too far, like once my character had a spinal injury and was actually paraplegic for a few days until a skilled healer saw him. But like, in the even of lesser injuries, I do like remaining consistent with them, at least until a healer gets you patched up. Say like, with a leg injury, I might have the /walk turned on and I probably wont be jumping around. 3. Rping solo is fun to see and is a passive way to let people know you are available to rp with. It also makes the world feel more real, in my opinion. LIke if I go into the Quicksand and sit at a vacant table I'll often make emotes over time that my character might be eating something or reading a book. It's a fun way of letting people know you're an rper and maybe looking for someone to interact with! 4. Initiating "God Mode" isn't very fun if you do it out of the blue. But of course, there are events in movies, anime, or comics where a character will tap into that secret power and make a powerful display of awesome. Usually I've only done it around friends and very rarely if I even do it at all (most of my characters aren't really very powerful). In the event that you want to go God Mode, its good to send the other players you're rping with a /tell to ask if it would be okay. You don't have to spoil it, but as long as it's within the game lore and falls within reason with the Final Fantasy genre, it should be okay. Just try not to overdo it; a lot of times God Mode is best saved for future rp if you're character is capable of doing things like that. Like, if you just met someone, and you run into trouble, you can't just pop God Mode right then in there. I like to pretend, when I rp, I do so with a studio audience watching. If I pull out God Modes all the time or right off the bat, sure it's cool at first, but then there's no tension or surprise for the future, because the audience will expect it. Such things, even in single player games, happened only every once in a while or only once at all, like with Tellah's Meteor spell from FFIV. Do have fun, but remember to make it fun for everyone you are rping with. They have well-written characters too~ :moogle: I hope I had some good information! And have fun~ I hope to see you in game sometime, don't hesitate to give me a shout if you need someone to rp with~
  25. I always find this funny. Like on those national geographic shows when animals or insects do something like walk in a pattern or make a noise to have another of their kind wander over for whatever reason. When I go into, say, the Quicksand I sometime speak to myself in that old british voice, "Ahh, there we see the mating dance of the RPer~" Heheh, I'm just being silly. But I do like solo RP. Of course I do it for the sake of maybe having someone wander over. It not only makes the world feel more real to others, but I think it's like a polite and passive way of saying you are free to interact with~! I'm usually more than happy to wander over when I see this, only because my character is super curious and doesn't know the meaning of stranger danger :moogle:~
