  1. I have my midlander call miqo'te "Cats" all the time because he loves to get under their skin. I also heard an au ra refer to a miqo'te as a fuzztail which I thought was pretty funny.
  2. I dunno if anyone said, but with Heavensward coming up, I think a lot of people (rpers included), are dungeoning in preparation for the expansion. It's usually never you, guy~ So don't worry. If I can be super honest, When I had some time off from work, I was in the Quicksand looking for random rp for like... four days straight. I never saw you... and if your search info says you are an rper, I'd rp with you~ Hang in there! Sometimes I wait for an hour or two until someone shows up or I gather the guts to go up to someone. The waiting is worth it, I promise. I'm sorry that it makes you sad when people don't rp with you. I know that feeling, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'll look out for you, buddy~!
  3. I like to think of my four characters being the four different parts of me. Caen is my joy, Juste is my sorrow, Liam is my anger, and Sugin is my curiousity or intellect. Usually the changes in their personalities from my own are wishes or improvements I wish I could make in my own life... like how Caen's favorite pastime is running, and I don't like running at all irl, but I wish I did. Sugin remembers most of everything he reads and is able to use his knowledge in the field, and I can barely remember anything from my High School classes. Liam like to take apart magitek and figure out how it goes back together, and I can't even put a computer together without a group of people to help out. I can't rp when I get depressed because it shows in my interactions with people... which is a little sad. I feel that's not uniquely my problem though.
  4. It really does get easier! Rp is all about connection and you show off a small side of yourself for the other person to see. Honestly, I think rp is what I'm best at... period, which is why it can be a little hard for me when I walk my character into a room and everyone is having really cool rps with people. Especially when they're rp celebrities like Faye or Erik... I just clam up and log out. I even made an alt just because I once heard this lalafel player say IC that there were no other younger lalafels to play with, so I rolled a younger character in an effort to be friends and have fun rp times... but the same thing happened, and now I'm deleting the character... Erm... what I mean to say is, don't give up! I do understand that feeling of being intimidated by amazing writing, especially with the usage of really interesting vocabulary. I just can't remember some words. T-T It's a confidence check! >.< Sometimes I find it easier when I see a character sitting alone, and I can right click them and their search info says they like walk-up rp. I see this most in the Quicksand, so I can stroll up and have my character chat with them. Maybe you could try that? THis community is mostly really nice to new rpers too, so there's nothing wrong with asking questions~
  5. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=5810 ::Sets this down:: ::runs off:: :moogle:
  6. I'm going to have to very, very strongly suggest against making a character that has been "let in" to Ishgard in the present era (IE the past twenty years of Ishgardian isolation). The lore is extremely clear that NOBODY gets into Ishgard if they are not Ishgardian themselves. Even Ishgardians themselves appear to be under pretty strict rules regarding entering and leaving the city. Now, if you're talking about an outsider joining the astrologians at the Observatorium in Coerthas specifically, that may be plausible. But still kinda iffy. Well this character is going to be an Astrologian, right? You cannot be an Astrologian without getting 3.0 and in 3.0 Ishgard is open for one reason or another. I'm willing to gamble that even though we are allowed into the city, not all establishments will be so welcoming to outsiders. However, I'm sure it would be up for negotiation if someone was so skilled they could be accepted into the fold. Unless you are set with a miqo'te being IN the city before it was closed. I don't have any real ideas for that scenario.
  7. You could always play the genius card. I mean, don't go over-board with it, but considering miqo'te aren't really fans of the cold (and probably are repelled by the Ishgardians view of the world) you could ask yourself this. Why would the Ishgardians let your character join? What about your character would be unique enough to where the could not turn your character away? I mean, judging from the MSQ, the Astrologians are not a club where you can just show up and get in. Ishgard hates outsiders too. However, something about your character, a possible discovery everyone over-looked or just a high level of skill, would probably make the astroslogians of Ishgard think, "Woah... we could improve if we added this person to our team!"
  8. I'm sitting here and thought of another possible slang. Its a little silly, but I figured hey- it could be cool. 7's & 9's : Used to describe a situation in which the Turks have members in place to clean up a deal or silence an individual if the deal goes south or an asset decides to squeal. Turk A: "I dunno Ace, this looks a little risky. What if they contact their lead in the Syndicate?" Turk B: "Tch, 7's and 9's, Jack. They keep quiet, everyone gets rich. They don't, suits are gonna send 'em off the Long Dive, see?"
  9. This sounds like a super neat idea! It just so happens I've been thinking of redoing an alt of mine, so I might have an available candidate. There's not enough cool shady rp~ Get it... shades? 8-) ...c-can I still join? I wont make any more jokes. another cool bit of slang could be Shiny: Would make it clear to the other members that a person or deal has been double and triple checked for counter-cons and rival influence and it's go time to engage without any fear of blowback.
  10. Freelance-sama! Quick! Shut it down >.
  11. For Caen I always have this one on standby; for those epic moments when there's no choice but to tussle with his mitts~ lmc21V-zBq0 Then for Juste it's something a little darker. His starts off a little quieter too. I like this theme though because it represents that "light in the overwhelming darkness" theme that I like when I'm on Juste. (This is the only video I could find, so you gotta start it off at the 1:45 min mark.) gSJx7STd6j4
  12. Caen uses his ears, nose, and tail all the time in rp. I admit he acts more like a hyur than he should because I offed his family when Dalamud fell and his guardians have been different people in Ul'dah. He's very much a miqo'te still~ :moogle:
  13. Ha! I can see you in the Quicksand right now! That's not such a bad place to start... it's a pretty happening place nowadays. Welcome back to XIV! Just run up and rp with people! :moogle: Everyone here is pretty friendly, y'know, so you don't have to worry. ::gathers tools to fix the roof::
  14. What kind of stories has your character gotten into? Caen has grown ALOT! He was just a street-rat miqo'te when he started out. He started adventuring, found his family, got kidnapped, became telepathic, became a Flame, and fell in love! He's such a fun and cute little character and everyone seems to have fun when he's around. It sounds weird, but he's really brightened up my own life too. How has your character changed since you rolled them (Or if you have been here since the beginning, since 2013)? The biggest thing is Caen becoming independent. He used to be all alone in the beginning until adventurers would drag him across Eorzea to see new things and have new experiences. What has been your favorite RP moment this year? There have been way too many... saving Garrett from the black, an entire FC saving Caen from dying in Coerthas, Caen getting his memory back, or the shard in Aeon becoming active. My favorite has got to be when Caen was approached by Lurial who told him they were cousins. That was the happiest he's ever been. What was the most shocking RP moment this year? Caen was in a sparring match with a good friend who suddenly turned mad and beat Caen to a bloody pulp... it was pretty shocking >.< Has your character made any mistakes? Caen let this weirdo kiss him when he was trying to be nice. He should've just told him to sloooww down. What was the most surprising thing you found out about your character? I suppose what was most surprising has just been how easily he can pull stories out of other people. His personality works so well with so many different characters. What relationships did your character build? Caen met his best friend, Garrett, as well as a bunch of really good friends like Flickering Ember, Aerostein, Asher, and X'yue. He also built a relationship with his long-lost family Tiergan and Lurial <3 Any relationships that fell apart? There was a big one with his adoptive sister Kelvena which fell apart when she found feelings for him. What was your favorite large-scale event and why? There was this huge event to rescue a guild member from her crazy father. Caen got to get to that stuffy hyur and give him a piece of his mind. Plus we saved our friend! What was your favorite smaller-scale event and why? There was a small event where an enraged Ala Mhigan tried to summon a voidlord to take Ala Mhigo back from the Empire. Caen and Tiergan showed up to try and calm him down and remind him that he;s never alone. It was filled with tension and then was followed by a really sweet moment. What are you looking most forward to seeing in the future with your characters growth and story? I want Caen to find a reason to venture out into the new lands that are going to open up in the expansion. He's never been a very good fighter because he doesn't want to fight... but I want him to find his resolve through rp~ Plus, he turns 18 this year, and that is also exciting!
  15. I'd be interested in joining. Caen is a street-rat however and cannot write so well. Most of his letters would be like: "HeLLo! IT iS very gooD to meeT you! I am Caen!" He can read slightly better than he writes... he's getting better guys >.< But he doesn't have to be anonymous. He likes his name just fine and he doesn't care who knows it. He's just very friendly is all. If you want to match me, I can check the site quite frequently~. It's a bit of a different kind of pen-pal, but he would love to write to someone. It may even help him get better! :moogle:
  16. Caen: Cutest Dork Sugin: Lost Genius Juste: Beautiful Sadness the first one is true and an inside joke <3 :moogle:
  17. "Alls y'gotta do is tussle wiff yer mitts! 1-2, 1-2! Sock 'em in th'face until y'knock 'is lights out! Woo-ha!" "J-jus' no tail-yankin', awright? That's no-fair."
  18. Lots of times I use it to convey some sort of pause, too. I don't know why, but I always thought the way Cloud spoke in Dissidia was peculiar and sometimes mimic it with my elezen, Juste. "Is that so... yet... will I ever find... what I'm looking for?" It was probably so the japanese animation could match the english dub in Dissidia. I usually only do it when Juste is under duress. Still, I'm tipping my hat to that sort of thing~
  19. Otherwise known as the "..." So before I ask, usually there is a sort of pattern to rp when you talk with people. I'm referring to the you-post, they-post, you post, ect pattern. If your character likes to talk a lot, sometimes they can even get in a few more posts before the other person posts. Then there's the mysterious "..." I know -what- it is, but it's used in a bunch of ways in video games, literature, and rp! I've seen it typed alone, usually meaning the character is at a loss for words or is remaining silent. There's also when it's used at the end of a sentence. Mostly from what I've seen, it's when a character hasn't yet completed their train of thought and either are hinting that you should inquire further, they do not wish to elaborate further, or (if they type fast) they will continue their sentence afterwards. This is sometimes done for dramatic effect~. In the pattern rp (you post, they post, you post) how would you treat an "..." ? Would that be them skipping a turn and allowing you to post again? I do find some broody folks over-using it because their character is silent or grumpy... which just makes it my job to make the rp fun for everyone anyway (hehe, sometimes~) So how do you approach the ellipsis? I just wanna ask everyone! Post away~! :moogle:
  20. Caen learned how to read and write from a collection of people, including his mother before she passes away in the Calamity. He still can't write very well at all and can't read big words.
  21. Caen can't even TELEPORT by himself. He's so fragile that when someone does teleport him somewhere, he gets nauseous. Apart from that, he can't use chakra (yet) either. Apart from that, the only reason he's still alive is because he can run really fast. I was sorta hoping he could meet some sort of master monk and train with him so he can be as strong of a monk as his dad was, but right now, Caen is just an average track-kid. But he's tryyying~:moogle:
  22. >.< I'm having issues with rp lately too. I remember fond days of when I could magically start a conversation and then have the simple rp turn into a cross-country event with all kinds of intrigue about. Then a month or two ago... I was at work all the time setting up shop for the holidays and I come back to XIV. It was like someone turned a switch off in my head. I see so many people I want to approach, but end up shying out and rushing away to play another game or toss myself into a dungeon. :dazed: maybe I've got the yips. I just wanna rp again and be happy.
  23. My second character was a half garlean. His father had fled Ishgard and settled somewhere in Garlean territory. Honestly, it was so badly written and terribly roleplayed out, that while I loved the character himself, I hated his backstory and retconned all of it. I think there totally can be half-Garleans. That said, in addition to not being very proficient with aether, Garleans have a certain extra something on their forehead that the other races of Eorzea do not have. It may come up, so you may want to prepare to explain why it isn't present.
  24. Personally, I think that any rper should understand that their actions will sometimes bring upon certain effects that come to bite them. For example, I'm currently trying to roleplay this Ala Mhigan refugee who's anger towards losing his home has turned him into a bit of a jerk. There was a time where he was in a mood and shoved a guy who he shouldn't had shoved over an opinion he didn't agree with, and my character got the snot beaten out of him (with dice rolls). I think the same would happen in settings like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Skyrim. It does, in fact. Also in real life, if you are a jerk to a bigger person they will sometimes squash you. I saw a film about it. >.< Uhm, funniness aside, I think it would be kinda fitting if Otto's "thugs" went after this guy. Like some Ul'dahn mobsters that corner him and are all, "Hey, don't ever do that again or we'll pound you into mush, see?" There a difference between doing that and sending your guys to harass this character over and over again. No one wants that. Aside from bad writing, it's just annoying, and keep in mind that there is a person on the other side of that character who still wants to do his thing and play the game. Most rpers tend to follow invisible guidelines for rping anyway. At the end of the day, you could always whisper the other guy and and maybe come up with some sort of scenario to get back at this bout of fisticuffs. Not saying make a time and write a script out (unless... you're into that ), but there's never anything wrong with an ooc whisper. Good luck to you though~ I think impromptu consequences are the best parts about rp. It lets my character really grow with the choices they make. :moogle:
