  1. Have any of the large-scale or griefer groups settled on any of these?

    500!

    :moogle: KUPO!!!! 500!!! KUPOPPO!!!
  4. Amen! This is probably why your RP will be made of awesome. :approve: The whole point is NOT to be yourself (unless you want to see how your own persona would mesh with a bunch of pretenders). That's why I tend to shy away from "RL picture" threads, Facebook, and such. The illusion, at least for me, is the whole point.
  5. But... but... ...where's the cake...?!
  6. For clarity's sake on my final paragraph, I take no issue with the disagreement itself. I hold no expectation that everyone will miraculously agree with everything I say and do. The suggestion was brought up first in the IRC and then to the Council. I am a very practical individual, and I realize that pragmatism doesn't necessarily go hand-in-hand with the traits that make most RPers good at what they do. I do maintain that the way some of the aforementioned disagreements that were presented lacked a certain amount of tact, much less consideration - which I will admit generally does nothing to enhance my desire to interact with a person.
  7. I'll take ownership of the suggestion. The fact is we were discussing in the T.A.L.E. IRC why it was necessary to wait three days before having to [probably] ultimately reroll our characters on another server and potentially risk losing our character name. There was nothing 'tyrannical' about the proposal. I was made with the best of intentions on behalf of myself and the community to which I belong (which I had thought was the purpose of the Council forums). The goal would have been to allow for one person that represents the community to expediate an otherwise lengthy (and some feel unnecessary) process. I had suggested that Castiel, who has always shown to have the RP community's interests close at heart, push the button when the time came. But really it doesn't matter who was chosen, so long as it was agreed upon for everyone to follow suit. But apparently server choice IZ. SERIOUS. BUSINESS. And what seems to be an extremely vocal minority has cried out in opposition. While I adamantly disagree with the reasons being cited against this proposal, the fact is that emails have already been mass distributed and the end of the timeframe is rapidly approaching so, as Castiel said above, there's really no sense in overhauling what we already stated we were going to do. Frankly though, I wish someone had thought to suggest this sooner, as there's no reason we shouldn't really be able to mobilize ourselves on one server within minutes of the server list being announced. Sadly, the general attitude from some people towards something as simple as a suggestion has given me a great deal of pause concerning what will be my level of involvement with regard to cross-guild RP and the RPC in general, once the game is underway.
  8. I spent more time than I should have, but probably not enough to get a solid list. These sound like they describe Eva pretty well. Hot Librarian: Probably really attractive, but you'd never know it. Dead Little Sister: Tragedy! (not her sister) Heroic BSOD: The result of said tragedy! (also really love the trope title) Break the Cutie: Why do bad things happen to good people? Beware the Nice Ones: 48th rule of acquisition - "The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife." The Quiet One: Yeah... she's a little emo... Berserk Button: But she's not gonna lose any more loved ones without a fight. Mama Bear: Don't mess with her cubs!! (no, there are no children) Wise Beyond Their Years: Pretty much self-explanatory.
  9. In LL the large bird statue is relatively remote and out-of-the-way as well. I honestly haven't been to the Marauder's Guild yet. I'll have to check that out on Tuesday maybe.
  10. I thought that was just 'yalms' now that you mention it. I don't think I've ever had a logging point that was over 1000 yalms away (which would be a bit over half a malm by our projections if I'm not mistaken).
  11. Only posted because that fulm-long salmon sub graphic was from FF11. I don't know that it's gospel, but it seems to be going by what it was in FF11. I'll keep an ear out for references to these when talking to NPC's. Are 'malms' and 'yalms' both confirmed? I'm sure I've heard one or the other either on the official site or from someone in the game, but I honeslty don't remember where.
  12. Also: ilm (equivalent to inch I assume) ponz (equivalent to pound) onz (equivalent to ounce) ...going from FF11 lore anyway...
  13. Yeah, I didn't bother with PTO for the 22nd - cuz who knows - but I'll be taking Thursday and Friday off, for sure! :bounce: Less than a month to go now!!!
  14. I agree with Tadir. Different gear/items/whatever have different values to different people. Setting limits (on either end of the spectrum) seems inhibitive. I do love Sass's suggestions #2 and #3 however! :approve:
  15. Here's a proposal then: First, conduct the vote based on the existing 'villain' servers. If it will put everyone's mind at ease, when the game goes live if they actually stick with those names, we'll go to the one chosen by the community. I personally don't think this will be the case, but it seems like a lot of people are QQing over villain names, and as Armi said earlier it might put a lot of minds at ease. If you want to take this a step further, conduct a separate vote based on the avatars or existing FF11 servers or whatever. Second, totally forget about choosing a server based on the sequence they're listed. I think it's unreliable to say "choose the fourth one listed" if the list is expected to vary depending on server density. I think a much more valid way of selecting a server is alphabetically. It's concrete and the only margin of error here would be if, say, there were 20 servers to select from and a list of 15 was provided - and I think the odds of them doing that are slim. They've already indicated that they want people to be able to choose the same server as their friends. I have a very strong suspicion that they're going to release the server names prior to 9/22. I honestly don't know what they did for FF11, but for the reason given above - choosing the same server as friends - it seems like it would be in their best interests to distribute this information. Otherwise they're going to find themselves with a lot of people re-rolling and complaining, yadda yadda. I do think it's a good idea to play it safe and have a contingency plan. And I like what we've done so far. So I submit this proposal and hopefully it is relatively simple to follow: ...If one RP server is designated... 1. We choose that one. ...If multiple RP servers are designated... 2a. If we know in advance what they will be, we vote. 2b. If we do not know in advance, we choose the first alphabetically from T. ...If no RP servers are designated... 3. If we know in advance what they will be, we vote. 4a. If they're based on villains, we go with what we voted on. 4b. If they're based on avatars, we go with what we voted on. 5. If they're not based on villains or avatars (or our chosen villain/avatar isn't listed), we choose the first alphabetically from T. I understand the need to account for if one or multiple RP servers are designated by S-E, but I seriously don't think that this will happen. I strongly suspect we'll be going with contingency #3. But it's not a bad idea and someone can set up polls for 4a and 4b if this seems like an acceptable proposal. EDIT: I chose 'T' explicitly because it dodges the whole 'Sephiroth' issue, although that's sort of moot anyway because if they wind up going with villains, we'll have already voted.
  16. In FF11, F8 used to target the closest enemy. Hopefully they'll be adding that one in soon as well.
  17. 'C' now? What happened to 'L'? This seems to be growing unnecessarily confusing. Maybe a silly question, but in order to alleviate some confusion why not change this: to: Otherwise you've effectively got a 4 & 5 there, even if it doesn't say it. Call it a hunch, but I still maintain that they're not going to stick with villain names for the servers, so this "NO JECHT IS BETTER THAN GOLBEZ" stuff is a waste... but whatever. Honestly, the whole thing can be cut down to 2 easy steps. 1. If the server names are known well enough beforehand, conduct a short-term forum vote. 2. If not, select server alphabetically, based on whatever letter you want.
  18. Theme Song? Missy Higgins - The Sound of White Too perfect for Eva.
  19. Even webcammed there's about a thousand holes that can be poked into that glass such that it wouldn't hold water. Fake ID's and such just for starters. I mean, if a linkshell is hardcore enough about its rules to be going to such lengths to verify its members' ages... I dunno... Trust issues...? I think it would be enough for most any linkshell to set the rule during the application process that the applicant must be 18+ (or 16+ or whatever the rule is for that particular group). If an angry parent comes along than the way I see it the linkshell community can't be held liable if they falsified their information. Just ban them from the group going forward if it's an issue. Also I'm not sure I would want anyone knowing my RL name and address though, and that info is usually contained on most ID's. Maybe it's just me...
  20. This! But I don't think they're going to stick to the villain names for servers. If they do we can just add a clause, "First alphabetically after L that is not Sephiroth" :approve:
  21. I don't think it's that confusing, but I went back and provided a spoiler tag outlining some examples to help clarify: CHECK IT OUT I think we should stick with this. Although I find myself hoping that if they stick with the current naming scheme, that Jecht will not be the 7th if we roll with method #3. My assumption is that 5 and 6 will never even be needed, since the number of RPers does not seem anywhere near massive enough to warrant the creation of multiple RP servers. I would have liked to have gone with the 4th from the get-go (which would eliminate Jecht from the running) and makes it abundantly clear no matter what configuration they use, but if they list the servers at least a day or two prior to 9/22, I think a vote would be the best way. Personally I'd like to see it shortened to: 1. VOTE 2. If not enough time, first alphabetically at/after L. That's just me though...
  22. I think it would be cool to get a Freelancer on the podcast to discuss their perspectives. I liked the explanation about the charter and what the RPC is. Also loved the mall analogies!! :afro:
  23. When I do use it (which admittedly isn't often) I'm still using the ffochat IRC. I realize some people have grievances with it, but I don't see the point of continually hopping around when we're probably not even going to be using it much more after another month or so. I don't care if I get kicked from #vanadiel since I want no part of that channel anyway. /shrug
  24. http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/finalfantasy14/news.html?sid=6273544&mode=previews&om_act=convert&om_clk=previews&tag=previews C&P from T.A.L.E. forums - haven't had a chance to read it yet though... :study:
