'Pologies for any inconvenience (And also buttluck.)
Aya replied to ChewableMorphine's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Well, he wasn't really interacting with anyone, though he was getting his share of OOC yucking being expressed! I just ignored him, as I usually do to the myriad of trolls in the Quick Sand. Normally I'd have black listed him too, but I was feeling lenient since the crowd was definitely encouraging him :-X I'd still say its unwelcome behavior in the Quick Sand. I like a little silly fun, but not when its so spammy in a place where spamminess can be really frustrating. Just imagine how people new to FF RP would view the situation - that's kind of how I try to look at things. Edit: I'll just note that I generally have a very little patience for trolling the Quick Sand. Its one of my usual RP spots (obvs!) and its hard enough to keep up; its just behavior that I think is really discouraging for the people trying to RP and have a little fun there. It tends to earn a black-list from me almost instantaneously, and permanently. -
It's good to be the Empress! ^^

Yaay! Thank you Rhea! That turned out so lovely! :-D Thank you so much!

I don't know anywhere near enough about Ala Mhigo to comment on shamanism! But I do think that we don't have enough of an Ala Mhigan presence in the RP community (we have plenty of Ala Mhigans, Aya included, but most seem quite well adapted to just living out their lives as Eorzeans, all too comfortable in the diaspora!) There is so much room for a movement that grips firmly to the old ways, and offers the promise of a return to the homeland.

I like to think the world is as linguistically diverse as our own. I also realize that tends to frighten game developers. Oh well

Someone's got to do it! Honestly I think its something you can afford to be pretty casual about. I know I personally don't have anything against people who play character's who are aether sensitive, or Echo and so on (Aya has her own very special Echo powers, right? right?). But what does bug me is when people decide that a "special" or unusual capability should become the focus of their character, or the foundation around which they build the character. That leads to flat and uninteresting RP in my experience. So, I'd say, run with it! However it seems to work best to you

Gil is gil, regardless of the source and she's not picky about who her marks are. 'Course, the wealthier you look... SHINY! Going after a fellow working girl is some sort of offense Looking forward to meeting you sometime!

It shouldn't feel like a responsibility, just a way to share and give back to the community A way to help give other people's character's more life, and to demonstrate that you remember them. Its not a contest (for writing or reading) but I think just an exercise all around. To those who wish they had more, just try to meet more people! Not everyone is on the RPC, or looks at the wikis, but the more you know, the more you're likely to leave an impression on too. I really miss when I just met people at the QS while barmaiding, and then the next day went hunting for their wikis to write rumors. I did that for a long time, and I just don't RP in the QS any more... but I know its the sort of thing that was good for all involved.

RP FC's are like entities in an ecosystem. They are born, they thrive, they linger, they die. Sometimes the cycle is short-circuited, sometimes they manage to go from lingering to thriving again. Its not predictable, except in that its always moving and changing. The death of some FCs does not mean that the community is in trouble, at least not while more continue to be created, and plenty continue to thrive. Just keep looking

Sounds terrific! Welcome to Balmung! I hope she doesn't go after hard earned tip ^_~

Compliments Galore! Compliment The Poster Above You!
Aya replied to Y'lani's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
What...? And just like that, Warren leaves me super confused. It's a talent. A talent, I tell you! Your question threads usually require some actual thought instead of just a canned response and I appreciate things that make me dig around in Warren's head for an answer. Warren Warren Warren Warren Warren Warren Warren! Wait.. that wasn't a compliment..? Ummmmmmmmm.. he's like got the Grind stone and manages to capture terrific atmosphere in his writing! -
♪I'm a dark knight and I'm okay. I've got a big sword and I angst all day I glare at mobs, I swing my sword, I go out and Arrpeee! On Lightsdays I go shoppin'! And have Lalafels for tea! I cut down mobs, I skip and jump, I like to pick out glamors, I put on grimdark armor, And hang out in Ul'dah! I chop down mobs, I frost my hair, And sigh an awful lot. I wish I'd been an Au Ra Just like my dear papa!

I'll be honest Val, I get kind of overwhelmed and confused by alts! But you know I'm happy to RP with you! We've talked about it a couple of times, but you should just pick an alt you'd like to RP with and let me know, and I am sure we can work something out

Wow.. that's a really tough one! Aya loves clothes (and nope, absolutely no way that's a reflection of her player, nope, nope, nope... okay maybe ) Most of the gil she makes goes into her wardrobe (thank you everyone who tips her well!!!) and she has outfits that cover a very wide range, and she loves most if not all of them Her favorite, though, is probably the bikini (properly accessorized!). That may sound silly, shallow, and so very Aya-like (because well, it IS), but there's also a serious-side to it. To her a bikini represents fun-in-the-sun, the very sort of thing that was impossible in the life she escaped. She gave up everything she had to live a life in Eorzea rather than Ishgard, and the bikini represents one of her very favorite aspects of life in Eorzea. So, there we have it

Why do people RP around the MSQ? [Post 2.55 Spoilers]
Aya replied to Magellan's topic in RP Discussion
That's true, certainly! But if the question is "why do people incorporate the events of the MSQ into their RP", which I think is a fair restatement of the original question, I think we have covered that very well One of the ever-present problems with MMO RP is that not everyone is on the same basis in terms of world and story. There's no GM to give the thumbs-up or thumbs-down or state objectively what your character knows about the world around him or her. We all have our own tactics for dealing with such conflicts, but I think its fair to say that a fairly large swathe of the RP community here accepts the events of the MSQ (in terms of the major events at least) canon after a week or so of the story update, even if they themselves have not actually caught up (I'm included in that number myself). -

Why do people RP around the MSQ? [Post 2.55 Spoilers]
Aya replied to Magellan's topic in RP Discussion
If you're not right up to the edge of the MSQ, just play along! Unless you're involved in Ul'dahn politics ICly (which I doubt you are) or your character is particularly in-tune to the possibility of political and civil turmoil (Aya tends to be, out of a sense that when bad things start to happen generally, they often happen to people like her), you really don't need to worry about anything more than the most casual connection. What do you do in real life when someone starts talking about news you haven't heard or don't care about? Now imagine putting your character in the same situation. It shouldn't really have much of an impact.
