I mix things up but prefer to set a determined winner of a fight with whomever i was fighting on Arala (UNLESS in a rare case i was against someone who is a legacy character in which Arala will not be able to hold her ground upon veterans well). Though Arala is more of a take punishment then dish the equal amount back ala Wobbuffet and her attacks are light mostly with a heavy focus on defending and wearing the opponent out. That doesn't mean she can't fall. So it works with "Who will win?" question and we debate back and forth. When we know who wins, the fight carries on as such, so it's improvised but the end result is already fleshed out. It proves to be exciting to see what happens next and how a person wins or loses. Sometimes I tend to lose intentionally just to be a good sport....which is something I have seen a lot from other people in this game too oddly enough.

small patch for FF14: New animation for characters to better diverse one another in rp. small patch in World of Warcraft:...OH LOOK ANOTHER FUCKING MOUNT THAT I MAY OR MAY NOT NEVER RIDE OVER THE 200+ MOUNTS I OWN! Goodie... /sarcasm It's funny seeing how that I am actually more excited for the new animations over technical changes or new items/weapons and fixes. The last time wow updated something cosmetically (Not talking about new models) was back in Cata with like 3 new hairstyles for certain races for barber shops. I honestly hope to see more coming to the game. Holding my breath for single player housing but because I suck at having Gil I may never get it . That and hoping to see more of the crystal tower levels and another Gilgamesh fight or hard version. Then again I am not too hardcore on FF14 at all to really judge anything, so I will just say i like the new sitting stuff. P.S That new chair sit for Female Miqo'te is PERFECT for Arala. The current one is alright but it makes her look too 'easy going'.

not going to fight this any longer but i'll try my best to word it out. Mechanic wise: Vanilla's mechanics all were nothing and were considered nothing even by the time's standards. Hell, Naxx 40 was challenging because some of the fights required tanks to stack on one another to midigate cleave damage. There was nothing really else for the off tanks to do other than reduce the damage the main tank was taking. BC and beyond there was more awareness and the sense that if one or three people died, the boss was considered unkillable for the most part. Yes a Rogue could tank Illidan back then and 5 people could kill Gruul but that was all because of the itemization before Wrath (where certain items were bis even after it's not current content). Then you got mechanics that relied on doing more than just not stand here or wait to hit that. I can tell you right now the only challenging bosses in Vanilla for the times were Ragnaros, Chromagus, Vale (only because of the short time to kill him), Nefarian, C'thun and half of Naxx. In BC we had a ton of fights that were just as hard or harder. Kaelthas however suffered from Vanilla syndrome because he has 6 phases. Gameplay wise: Oh boy. I hope you still don't have those glasses on. Because regardless what you think and what others want to believe... 40 people make the difficulty on more than just unable to control them. It was required that half or more of the raid had the gear for resistances, and tanks are never excluded. It was considered bullshit when you get paladin gear as horde or shaman gear as alliance and wasted those precious runs to get jack shit. Size does not always equal difficult. You want difficult? Have you tried doing hyjal back in BC (And that was a shit place for trash....nightmares of waiting...) and fought against Archiemonde? Well his fight was mainly a no one die fight. If even one person out of the 25 died...that was considered a wipe. No shit. Ragnaros? eh 20 people could die and you could potentially still kill him if you are at the right percent. Back when I was raiding vanilla, I remember having 10 dead people minimum during our prog kills ad at least four dying to Baron or the molten giant (can't remember him off the top of my head) but that was because some healers had to make a choice or were not in range or "Shit I didn't notice" because there were too many people usually to keep track. with the 10 and 25 mans it was a little easier to keep track but that just meant that the less there are, the more you CAN'T die. Suffice to say some people can carry things and with Death Knights, they can prove to nearly solo stuff without any aid. But gameplay wise, Vanilla was still not that great for raiding and most of the time you spent your dps just auto attacking and occasionally moving to get out of bad. Now it's more than just move out of bad. you had to pay attention to what happens. And yeah you can toss in the whole ranked talent argument and such but really...who cares? Removing the need to purchase certain ranks was a godsent on my wallet and alts. Honestly, I have raided back then. The problem with raiding in general was the gating of gear and the idea that you needed at the least 30 pals to help make a raid that were not already there. Yes it was fun enough but when I remember vanilla raiding....I remember the times i sat and did nothing but sunder armor and taunt or as a dps just sit still and do nothing but attack and hit certain abilities without any care. Now? I am running around. I am dpsing certain mobs. I am getting in puddles to prevent the death of my teammates. I am pushing bombs into a corner. I am CCing mobs and silencing MCs. I am kiting bosses with fixate on me. I am destroying weapons on a belt. I am doing so many things just as DPs alone. Vanilla? I was not attacking the mob when melee shield was up...and getting out of bad or getting away from bad. Some fights were just boring and others were interesting at least (Mainly AQ bosses) but the issue lies with how each individual boss was either mass dispel spree or just watch for bad/get out of bad. Tank or DPS or healer...Vanilla raiding was fun when you didn't read into the mechanics. Hence why the rose tinted glasses. I took them off well after BC. Raiding now may be considered "EAsier" but that is only due to blizzard's intent to let people at least SEE the content instead of restricting it to a 1% minority. Sure not many killed heroic garrosh still but it was way more than Kelthzad 60.
-
Hey, I never heard of pugging MC back in the day. *Raises Hand* Usually had to pug for 1-5 people if we were missing them for guild. I may not of killed Rag but we did get up to him. We at least managed to grab people to let them see the content. Oh and I use to go to pug AQ20 and ZG 20 as well as was a pug for AQ 40 first two bosses (Not including the bug family). Really though, the game has gotten at least somewhat more complicated. True some bosses are still super straightforward but first boss of Heart of Fear. http://wowpedia.org/Imperial_Vizier_Zor%27lok I remember wiping more times on him than I did on Lucifron. and for a scale... http://wowpedia.org/Lucifron And the reason why I died more to Viz over Luci? Luci had 40 people and all the fight was is a Dispel convention and add killing due to Mc but you could LOS the MC. Viz you had to avoid ring of shockwaves, deal with a stun channel that can kill non tanks if tanks don't get in it, had to run silencing smoke that harmed you, deal with an AOE pulse by standing in bubbles and MC mechanics...then when he clears the room of the gas you dealt with all three at once in a timed order. Heroic Mode he left projections behind so you had to kill the projection as well or force a raid wipe if no one could tank him. Yes those are first bosses of their respective releases. Heart of fear was the first raid of the two with tier gear.

I have to favor this page for when I get back to the states. I honestly would love some of that linework for my character and another pal for the sake of fun :3

Vanilla bosses were just as easy man. The thing was that since you had 40 people to take it was more of an annoyance to manage so many which masks the simplicity of said fights. Onxyia? Phase 1: Tank takes ony to back wall and everyone on either side. MT must have Fear Ward from Undead/Dwarf Priest Phase 2: Ony goes in air, whelps come on. AOE whelps and move from her breath path. Range on Ony and melee focus on adds. Range helps melee if too many adds. Phase 3: Ony lands. Reduce Aggro if you can at all. MT takes only to back wall and rotation of Fear Ward on MT+Healers. GG Iron Juggernaut in SoO Heroic. rotates through 2 phases. Mobile Mode: Tank faces IJ away from raid. Raid spreads and so do melee but be close to boss. Move out of red death circle fast, avoid drill digs and avoid the saw ricochet. Tanks (Or any DPS with reduced damage CDs) take the three (or five on 25 man) bombs that spawn before they explode and do raid wide damage. Healers worry about dot cast on tanks and others. Siege mode: At 100 energy IJ plants itself in place. Starts doing raid wide damage overtime and spews tar. Clump up in the position made earlier after tar is gone and heal everyone up to full before shockwave. Get blasted back and stay relatively close for bombs. If you have the lazer RUN IT AWAY FROM THE PUDDLES AND BOMBS! Keep moving out of puddles and staying close. Tanks worry only about taking bomb damage. When it's close to depleting, adjust yourself to face the opposite direction and do Mobile mode all over again. --- The fights are simple most of the time but some are RNG dependent and mechanic heavy. Worst one i fought was Heroic Dark Shamans (Which required you to split your raid and position in a certain way while also surviving the abilities as the fight goes on. The only raid that can be considered the easiest was Dragonsoul (I cleared heroic without an issue and was able to carry two DPS under performing....). --- Most of the fights in Vanilla are not really tech heavy because of the time. Since Wrath we've been getting fights like Lich King, Heroic Garrosh and even Heroic Nefarian (Which required you to control the rate at which Ony died before the aoe killed you). The size of said raids made them difficult after all. The only thing i can agree is the fights have been more simplified in terms of strats but as I said before, the raid size shrank to about 25 (20 for heroic in WOD) because trying to command 39 people was aggravating enough. Especially when fifteen of the freaking morons were a close group in the guild . And to make a note, my first character was on Daggerspine alliance called Lamaria. He also had the Master Sargent title...but shortly into BC i lost my account to hackers hard so I had to start fresh on horde with the Account I have to this day I use to tank Majordomo back in Vanilla and even I saw the fight was just a waiting game. If blue light, no magic, if white light no melee. Kill healer then a dps in rotation. Ignore Majordomo. GG.

Kind of...I know some post WOTLK people who were at first put off by the challenge mode but once they got in they managed to get 6/9 gold in patch 5.1 and got the last three just before 5.2 launched. But i understand what you mean. If i was out of shape in wow i too would kind of struggle. But then again Wow is that game where it was made for a more casual audience with the learning curve and the extra bits are just there as a challenge. But about that DMC comment. I think if you played DMC for 10+ years straight with training, S rank in that term would be a sign of sucking. You wouldn't settle for anything less than SSS if we are talking about legit 10 years of playing/trying it on and off ala Street Fighter Tournament Players

Damn me for having a gil budget of only 40k D: I don't have the time to just farm out the gil either. You sure you don't use Paypal at all?
-
You still need any practice characters? I could let you use my Arala with a more casual wear of clothes instead. Unless you want to draw that armor on her
-
Arala's hot spots are usually Ul'dah and mainly the Quicksand, but she has other locations... Vesper Bay (Rare) She just enjoys walks and rests here sometimes. Limsa Lominsa (Uncommon) Since her first visit there, Arala has been taking an interest to the city and the area around it. Outer La Noscea (???) No one knows exactly where she goes here but maybe if you spot her running by, maybe you could follow her? Forgotten Springs (Uncommon) Went here once when she traveled to see more of Thanalan. She returns every so often though. And that's about it Yeah she is still one of those new characters that are building up

don't fire arrows at me when I bump this page. It's only just for one more chance

They attempted to make games like DMC before. S4 league and Gunz the duel for example. Some wall running, gunning and melee action pvp styled arena with "skill" involved... And by skill i mean "Buy the most OP items on the stop for a couple bucks" kind of skill. Yeah there is a reason why those games are kind of meh. Games that revolve around skill should stay in the realm of single player games on consoles and lobby based shooters not COD wise (Tf2 has a bit of that but you need teamwork still) MMOs are suppose to be more about Co-operation and a virtual world where one can "escape" to and be something else. There may be some skill but it's not like dodging skills so much. It's more involved with 75% gear and 25% predicting what your opponent will toss at you. Even if there is a "dodge" mechanic, you can't deny that PVP in some regards will still be imbalanced due to gear. It's why i avoid PVP for the most part. No sense when I can't fight back on equal level or terms like in Team Fortress 2 or Tribes Ascend. At least in those games when I make a mistake, it's because i fucked up a shot or ran into something. In PVP it will usually and always be the man with better gear unless you get EXACTLY the same level of gear as that person has. Also... ...No man. Challenge Modes are too easy. Sure the gear is scaled down to raid entry levels but even then a lot of people can carry dead weight in those still. Not to mention the majority of those Challenge Modes is Skipping monsters with invisibility pots. The gist is you have to kill a certain number of enemies (you can go over the min you need but it's wasted time) and get to the last boss in a record time. Some makeups use druids for the stampeding roar+Invis pot combo (If you are a mage just use Greater Invisible perk) and any makeup is capable provided you take the time. With a new group it took us only four tries to get silver and eight to get gold in Scarlet Monastery, and that was suppose to be one of the harder gold medals right next to Shado-Pan which kills melee based classes. Getting bronze at all is just impossible unless you REALLY suck at wow...which is hard to do. But the Challenge Modes are fun regardless. Only hard part is getting a Realm Best time now but even then all realm best titles like "Darkmaster" are getting removed and those who had at least one get "Mistwalker" title instead. The hard parts of wow are heroic raids on the patch they were released and finding a stable guild that lasts for more than a year. PVP can also be hard because you need to find a team that will not mock you or kick you out as an excuse for losing one round of rated Battlegrounds. Not to mention the restrictions people put on applications like exact PC specs and even descriptive reasons why you want to join the guild (But that's mainly for the top 1000 guilds of the world really.) ---- Update If you want some neat reviews of free to play games btw, i suggest MMOgrinder http://mmogrinder.net/ He was the one who got me mainly into various games I tried. Though be forewarned some of those reviews are old only due to that specific game being no longer around.

There is an explanation though. Ever heard of the Less is More Idea? Let's say FTPMMO1 has the following average of items on the shop. 5$ Boosters that last a week for 30% increase. 2.50$ crate keys to unlock lock boxes. 1$ per ingame like token to "gamble" on lottery styled boards with odds never in your favor and cosmetic items ranging from 5$ for one item to 50$ for a whole set. Now because the ingame store restricts the items to only be available on the store (With small exceptions of games that offer minor versions of exp boosts and such) people feel compelled to buy them at random times. Made worse by the fact that some items can only be obtained though the lottery system...made even FAR WORSE that those said items in boxes and lotteries are only around for say....2 months only before being replaced. Making them EVEN HARDER TO GET AND FORCING PEOPLE TO BUY MORE TO GET IT! In time they can gamble anywhere between 25$ to 150$ alone. And no, the items in boxes and lotteries usually have no counterpart to obtain in the cash shop. the next example is Elsword's Ice Burners. http://elwiki.net/w/Ice_Burners You will see that a lot of the sets can't be obtained anymore and the entire ice burning thing is more or less a lottery with the starting price is 1$ per burner. The odds of obtaining a certain armor piece for the character you play is about 1/5 on top of the ludicrous RNG it has. These free to plays are only masking the hideous forced buying through manipulating people's "drive to obtain all the lewts" mentality. The core essence of an RPG is to kill a monster and grab it's loot (which is another reason why FF13 sucked hard...) which then you use to kill stronger monsters for stronger loots. in an MMO some of those loots are cosmetic and not so much needed but a "want" because it either looks pretty or it is only here for a limited time (See the Mists challenge mode armor.) So when people say 15$ a month is too much, they are masking their shame of spending 55$ a month on useless shit and they know it. Plus most of the people who said that as well just feel like they NEED to play 15$ worth of a game to get the full experience....which is false. I pay 12$ a month for the FF14 game and i still think i got my share of content for what limits it has for characters. People just are stupid to realize they spend more when no limit is given to them on a "store".

After thinking for a while I thought it was time to start one of Arala's character development stories in some way involving two of her friends as well. However I need the assistance of one or more people to play as Villains for the story. Name of story: "The Weight of Heavy Burdens." Event Turns: 5 short summary: After receiving a letter from her father, Arala heads off to meet him at the location described. However, the letter was recently sent and with no sender name, it could be a trap or worse... What I am looking for: A character with at least level 45 in any DOW/DOM. Character wise, your name will be just about whatever you wish as your character can be a simple "token" for said villain. No need to change your hair or face for this much or name. You can make it to events usually held on saturday and can follow the light instructions given to you. Again: do not worry about changing your name or appearance for this. We can pass it off as such. However, if more than one is interested in doing this then I can appoint one person on the evil team as the "Mastermind" and possibly extend the event turns (days) to make it bigger. the maximum I can think of is three to keep it simple. What the villain can do: Aside from scripted lines for certain things, you are free to improvise whatever lines you wish and add your own flare. Your powers are also explained a bit more but an example is the ability to cast barriers at times and also teleport with ease What can't the villain do: Kill anyone (obviously) but there will be some fun moments of torture/trolling and downright smacking around some characters for you. Other than that, as the villain (or one of) you are not free to attack on non event days. Can i ask a question? Go on. I may of missed some info. And to explain what I mean by turns... The first turn per say is setting the stage and introducing the villain(s) to the characters as well as whatever. The following turns are encounters and one will involve some downtime. the last turn is where the villain dies but the method of which they die is up to the villain really with some restrictions. (No killing heroes of course) That's really all there is to it. Character development so far and token bad guys. If you want to RP a bad guy for once but don't want to dedicate for a character or are afraid of killing off your character then take your chance here and make him/her a token! That way when you RP in cities you are still your character : D Send in the below app in a PM Name of token villain: Character Name: DOW/DOM using: (Optional) General description: And please do not be afraid to ask or add anything. I can say that this event was half planned and mainly less restricting on villains. After all, I find it more fun when there are literal character villains that we can interact with than npcs. So take the chance while you can and if we get three villains...then expect some fun! I will also explain this to the pals who are rping this with me. If you need more info not ingame you can find me on Balmung as Arala Makeo... However I am going to be absent from the game from the 13th to the 21st mostly due to traveling and vacation. So if no immediate response then please be patient. It just means I am on vacation for the time.

Yep.... The staff was a gift from her tutor from like thousands of years ago. I even described it as just being heavily decorated and the horns were made from white wood. So overtime it began to look like that giant staff head through adding more items.... I was no dragon. I was just a Night Elf Mage who had been roaming Azeroth for a thousand years looking for my purpose while also making stories and songs along the way (BARD! I CALLED IT! > : D). It was a sad day when they all shunned me or ignored my attempts to be civil in someone's rp because of said weapon. But then again I was one of the best mages on Alliance side raiding at that time before I moved late Mists when my guild half disbanded. So I reside my character on Velen as a Troll instead for the future of raiding. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/velen/Parthmakeyo/simple And to answer back everyone else: Yes I know it's best to use any other wep model and for the moment I doubt i can even use the Curtana in RP...but i gotta find a good weapon model for the weapon her father abandoned when it comes time to it. Still i enjoyed reading everyone's take on this subject. It was all interesting and insightful.
-
I was thinking about this for a bit since looking at the weapon styles for a majority of the game's endgame and shields. What can and can't you really use as far as weapons? I mean sure some of them are nice but mainly weapons like the purple items (I know they have a general name but I call them purples) seem bright and flashy at times. As the weapons look very high profile, is it safe to just call them "Replicas" when one uses them or is it kind of a big no no to consider it? I bring it up due to my old problem from Warcraft RPing of course and dealing with Legendary weapons (Specifically Dragonwrath back in Cataclysm time when I obtained it). Some people seemed pissy or ticked off at me for using it just for the sake of the model. Even when I told them it's not the staff they continued to bash me just for using it's looks. So is it kind of the same here where people are better off not using their real weapons and go for standard issued ones? P.S: I do plan to use my Relic weapons far later in my character's life.

What if the RP was of Bahamut fighting Titan in Vesper Bay? Or have Garuda be the Mothra as she picks up Ifrit while tossing him in the ocean where Leviathan would attempt to pull Garuda down into the ocean? Also if it was/is cannon, I would of made up a sort of "Movie" series on crystals about a Lone Cactaur similar to the Lone Ranger. And Tonto would be a Moogle. I call it... "Lone Needler". Or even go the whole 9 yards and make up the Kaiju Monster genre with Bahamut as stated above :3 but back on track, the second i read the title (not the gay part but the FF12 tag) I knew i wouldn't of been disappointing by Lore breaking info. Unless your Character is Gilgamesh (who btw has his reason for jumping around dimensions since 5) I doubt your story would end up in FF14's world. Oh that's what i should do too! Have a series of television shows for the kids called "Greg's Journey", where Gilgamesh is being Gilgamesh!

Many of the MMOs have shifted over the years in terms of target audience and "Generation" For instance, in games like Ultima Online and Everquest there was a ton of grinding. Not Korean levels mind you but grinding that required one to "Live in a parent's basement" type of grind. Everquest was the king of that idea for Westerns and Ragnarok online. The games were made to make you work and earn things for it. Then when Blizzard announced World of Warcraft (which I have been playing since 2005 and still love it besides Cataclysm...which had a nice, promising start but ended in a bland way) people were wondering if it even had the muscle to knock the king of MMOs off it's throne at the time. What blizzard did from the beginning is make it less of a chore and more appealing to the casual market. Don't believe me? What was the highest kill quest count that didn't require you to use an external vehicle? 25 mobs. Everquest had some quests grind out well over 50 by yourself. Attunement quests? They removed the monotony of requiring to do over a hundred things to get into one raid and wow cut that in half as well (WE WILL NEVER SPEAK OF HORDE SIDE ONY CHAIN! > : ( ). Again, it was easier to get attuned to Molten Core, Upper Blackrock and Nefarian. While UBRS required you to put together a small item, MC and Nef was more or less touch a certain object. I remember running guildies through Blackrock Mountain and jumping the lava pits to grab that firestone to attune them to the core...and it took not even 15 mins. The third thing was quests that actually rewarded you items. Early in wow there were not a lot of "Quest Items" as there are now since Cata but they were more frequent than Everquest. And since BC, you would get a new item every 2-4 quests. Not chains either. I've leveled enough through the old version of 1-60 before the revamp to make sure. So what was the key defining thing Blizzard did? Make it accessible to a more broader audience. They did something not only so ballsy but because it was a Warcraft Game (Being a warcraft nerd myself mind you) there was an established fanbase before. On launch and well into one year of wow the servers were unstable and lag was everywhere. There were more players in wow than what Blizzard anticipated and it grew ever so more over the years to their current world record of about 7 million subs. While i played the game since High school, I remember it changing a lot for me and what everyone's expectation of an MMO sub game should be (or be close to). So when other MMO games attempted to steal it's thunder (by calling themselves Wow Killers and ending their lives) they soon fell under and became Free to play games. Some of those games were more complex than wow...and players were put off by that simply because they were afraid they couldn't be even with everyone. Why am i saying this? It's because that since i returned to FF14 ARR for the time (scheduling to be Fri/sat/sun affairs for RP inbetween raiding) I noticed they changed a lot and made it more accessible than at launch. At launch, the idea of grinding a dungeon that offered no actual items but stones that you used to buy items was similar to the badge system...with one downfall. They made the items Ridiculously expensive for one piece. You would have to complete a run of a certain dungeon by speeding through it all about 20 times to just get one little piece of gear. Not only was it unappealing but because of my gear at the time, I felt like a dead weight to everyone. So i didn't play it for six or more months until they fixed it. And they did, but it still not appealing in the idea of Endgame so much. FF14 ARR to me is better as an RPer's MMO (Due to the details of characters actually showing rings, wrists and necks while having a variety of emotes) than a game game to me. That and their combat idea seems kind of boring, and i play a Mage on wow. I have tried other MMOs and especially Free to play stuff for a while, and even then I keep going back to World of Warcraft because of how simple it is and easy to get back in the mindset. Wow is not the best MMO, far from it...but it's the most popular and the one everyone is playing because of how accessible it is. There is even a popular review on an 80 year old granny who RAIDS IN WOW! Also blind and deft people. The only big negative wow has at this moment is it's community sadly. Especially the RP community. They are full of asshats in public who godmod and break the lore constantly to a key. So far i have seen some more well mannered RP in FF14 than WOW to me. Ok i'm done rambling. What was i getting at? Until there is an MMO that can indeed knock wow completely off it's throne, I will be going back to it for the pals/guildies/raids and because I can easily remember how boss fights work without a wiki and know how to play a class by just getting in it's chair and placing the buttons. That and gearing is pretty simple now. P.S: Wow has some heavy grinds in the game as well. One of which is collecting 9,999 bones on Isle of Giants from elite dinos that drop anywhere between 1-40 a pop...and you currently can't solo the giant ones. So it's the 8-10 bones a drop for you

I had a good time myself as well. Hope to see more events like this soon.

This would be an opportune time to explot-I mean enjoy some free drinks with everyone. Count me in!
-
I thank you for a nice alternative...giving me more ideas as we speak.
-
hehe...well you did give me some kind of a jump on that. Not the Fantasia thing. Rather the idea of Father being of moon and mother being of Sun (which can explain the odd black highlights?). For the moment I am still not going to RP until I get a good enough OK to use it (plus i am still working on this profile for now. A lot of information is missing or has not been implemented)) http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Arala_Makeo

One last question. Is there a forum topic to post profiles or on the wiki? I would like to get that "paperwork" out of the way so I can head onward with creating that name backstory :3
-
Well....the challenge begins! D: gonna be hard to really make that work
