so i've been writing up a story inspired by some Guildmates remark about "Imagine what our characters are thinking about when we make them do stupid shit?" The premise is simple enough. A story based around the interaction of a player and the character in question. 'What if the characters we made had their own judgement on top of us controlling them? Like there is a 'Virtual' struggle and they had to communicate or compromise on things? It's just a start and before i finish the last touches, I invite the forum posters to read this chapter before it is finished up. It is in the stages of rewriting/adding/proofreading so don't expect it all to remain in there. Thank you and enjoy. Comments are appreciated too. http://sta.sh/0ls9jwvoctp

The last toon I transfered to balling was roughly around September of 2015. It may be full, but it's still possible to transfer. All they did was lock the ability to make new characters in Balmung. Now if only SE would increase capacity of the locked servers...

balmung Looking to Support Roleplay, perhaps more.
Parth Makeo replied to azahana's topic in Chronicled Connections
Currently I have some events going on for an arc that is trying to involve the public space more than personal. While the next isn't until febuary, you are free to join in them at any time. I believe there will also be forum post RP for the arc as well. -
INB4 VIDEO OF NARUTO FIGHT [insert Video Here] "THIS IS HOW MY ORIGINAL CHARACTER FIGHTS WITH HIS NINJITSU, KAMAKANA NO JITSU. BUT PRETEND IT'S NOT NARUTO AND INSTEAD MY ORIGINAL CHARACTER!" But for real I just imagine Ninjitsu being used much like a hybrid of the martial arts akin to a certain attribute. Like I made P'rita excel in making her Ninjitsu focus more on weapons+smoke and what not. She can't use elements but she can use the metal and materials in the earth to create a giant Shurikin. For the most part her focus was always combat. Not the act of putting hands together often.

There are always events that the community offers like bar drinks and even I find people making connections at the Grindstone. Whether they fight or not! Quicksand is okay if it's not crowded but other than that, you may have to engage in RP for the most part. I've been lucky with my Walkups on my characters but others are not as lucky. As many pointed out before, it takes time and patience to get replies and form connections. Some RPers like to establish friendship over more than one day to give it a real sense of immersion. Asking for Walk Up RP is okay so long as your character is not idling or acting chill. My recommendation for those who prefer others walk up to them... Do something in your downtime. Turns a page in his/her book, fiddles with , or even the act of scanning and looking around while taking a sip can work. Just have to make your character seem interesting to those who want to walk up. The other part is image. I know some Characters that players RP as that refuse to just walk up casually to armor clad people because A) They might just want to relax after a long day of adventuring/work, B) They intimidate them or C) They could be guards on duty and they might not be into idle chatter. So do make casual attire for your character once in a while. You might see more people approach a man in a basic shirt and pants rather than a fully armored Dragoon. But the most important in my opinion is you need to just put in effort. You can't just expect RP events to fall in your lap. You have to go out and make the connections or join the events. If you can't due to Real Life then try to find another. I honestly cannot recommend Warren and the gang's Grindstone enough. It's honestly the best chance you can make connections even in private chatter while also watching fights.

Is your character open for killing/death? What about injury?
Parth Makeo replied to LadyRochester's topic in RP Discussion
Ah killing characters...it's fun to do it during the right time. I can't just abruptly kill my character without something happening or off screen. It makes no sense. Now Arala is PC kill immune. Meaning I have no intention of any other RPer take her life. Will she be on the verge of death or be in much pain? Oh definetly. But don't expect to kill her at all. Even if we negotiate it OOCly. When it comes to people killing characters, I am on the fence. Is the character in a special place with Arala? Why should they kill off the character? And another idea of you are 100% done RPing that character...you don't have to kill them off. Just turn them to NPC status and reference them at times. Much like how I do with P'rth. My other characters are different. P'rita is more or less killable but Xyla Doll is not for the time. She can be later on but for now she is safe. I am cautious of who I let kill off my characters. -

The paradox of drawing aether from different mediums
Parth Makeo replied to Valence's topic in Lore Discussion
I tried something different when it came to one of my characters, and that the crystals she have are where she draws her aether from. Problem being is that because it needs aether as well, she has to replenish it in her own way. By using Elemental Crystals. The problem with that is her limit is easily reached compared to actual Thamaturges and Conjurers. Meaning she likely stores the energies inside the crystals for later use. So is it considered a paradox that she uses Elemental Clusters (Like in crafting) to fuel her crystals, thus able to cast spells that as a supposed witch would be able to? The Aether in question returns not to the source but rather dispersing into the planet. Reason why such a convoluted method is a bit hard to spoil. -
Like most said before me, it depends. I for one intentionally do some banter with Xyla and her Carbuncle to get eyes glued on the chat and sometimes have the characters walk up to others instead. However, if say you see no emote or say from the character that caught your eye since you moved in the quicksand, maybe they want to rp. Too often do some walk ups never start when an invitation is open. That said, it is always enjoyable for people to lean about a character with each meeting as oppose to understanding from the first. Gives pacing and character build.

Found this website and figured we could see if our characters were good or bad http://www.santarules.com/the-list/ And post results here! For mine... Arala: Arala Makeo, you must have been EXTRA nice this year. Santa has a smiley face next to your name on the Nice List! (So...spot...on...) Xyla: Ho ho ho! Nice try, Xyla Quintessence. Thought you could slip one past the Big Guy, huh? Naughty. (Santa is Cruel D: ) P'rita: P'rita Kali, do you really think Santa is unaware of your inappropriate Facebook posts? Naughty.

Maybe they work on the philosophy that casuals 'will ruin their game' and they want them to suffer for not putting in a lot of hours.

Anima Weapons and You: A Guide for Killing Yourself Again
Parth Makeo replied to Warren Castille's topic in FFXIV Discussion
They are a Japanese developer though...So i am guessing old time traditions of grinding in the game still resides. Most MMOs, both F2P or P2P from Japan/China/Korea pride themselves on the grind. Take for Example Monster Hunter Frontier Online (Still going strong in Japan btw). If you played a monster hunter game...Imagine that, with new monsters to fight every update and new armor/weapons with double the element weapon types you can get (Like Wind element)with gear skills and leveling up pets...Grinding is the name of Monster Hunter, and the online game is triple the amount of time you will grind. To do the method you suggested is more sensible to an american market. Take for example (And i know i can't shut up about it) World of Warcraft. The Legendary ring has a few steps that you need to do and they were all during content stuff. First step was run a certain heroic for the base ring then do three heroic specific dungeons for items and the current first raid (Highmaul) to get stones and kill last two bosses for their items. After those steps you get the next level and have to do the next raid on that same dungeon (Blackrock Foundary) and gather 900 Elemental Tablet fragments (300 per tablet but they dropped a hefty amount each boss) while also getting the three needed items from the end bosses of the three wings (Kromrok, Maidens and Blast Furnace). Once you got the three items and the fragments, you needed to kill Blackhand for his item and get the next ring. After that it's the 6.1 stuff which was filler and follower Then 6.2 was the last step. You needed to do work on the Shipyard (Full detail in the link below) to get a map and needed 33 tomes of the legion from the current raid (Hellfire Citadel) at a 50% drop chance from the 14 bosses in it. Once you got all those items GRATZ! you got your legendary ring- oh wait...Hold on. There is one more thing to grind. 100% optional but... After you get your 735 ring, you are free to leave it as is...or do normal or harder Archiemond each week to upgrade the ring by 3 Ilevels up to a max of 795. Total of about 20 kills to max out one ring (Meaning multi spec classes may have to spend 40 or 60 kills to max their other rings) Better detail down below. http://www.wowhead.com/guides/raiding/warlords-of-draenor-legendary-ring-guide After finishing all that on my mage (Besides feeling like WOD was a major letdown as an expansion) it was at least fun and the catch up mechanics they added helped for alts and people behind on the quest. Because each week you run the raid, you DO make progress towards the ring, Albet at a 'fixed' rate. some get lucky while others get theirs 2-3 weeks behind, but it's not to the point that you get jack shit in the end...Unless you were one unlucky person in my guild who had one whole week with only getting one tome out of the raid of 14 bosses If they went the way you suggested Olivia, it would at least make me do more dungeons (But the FATE grinding has got to fucking go) --- If anyone has other examples from other games of these "artifact/legendary/Atma" weapon/gear systems, i would love to hear them. -
(PST to join in this RP please.) In the cold north of Ishgard, in one of the libraries and archives resides a man. An Elezen man with long and deep purple hair and black eyes. Purple marking all on his face and his skin looking quite pale. His eyes fixated on the books opened before him and before long, would check out five of said books from the location. Each one a book that talked about history from the past. One of these books contained information that he had to destroy.... He kept a calm stride as he walked through the city. The cobblestone tapping under his feet and the snow lightly falling onto him. He thought for a moment, looking over at the nearby tavern and figured a little drink wouldn't hurt. The Elezen soon turned down the stairs and entered the tavern, sitting at a table and laying the books beside him. Covering the most important under the rest. The warm flame by the fire felt nice, and so did the soothing dim light. "Now then...How shall I read these?" the man thought, eyeing the flames in the fireplace. Aiming to destroy the book right in there when no one was looking. But he had to be as relaxed as possible to pass wandering eyes. Instead, he took the top book about plants to read as a cover. But those who were highly attuned with Aether could tell something was definitely wrong with this man.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Parth Makeo replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Did a random dungeon to tank. Told the group of my Ilevel and to give me time to get aggro (I was one level above min for it) Had a dragoon decked out in full 200 gear. Dragoon dies on every single boss each time including the last. Wiped once on the last boss and killed him second go. tell me "Tank is shit" and leaves. --- I could tell many other stories but even though in WoW there are pug horror stories, I've always been that guy who usually just ignores them since i know most of the community is selfish...but in FF14 i just don't get it... Elitist seem to have this feeling of being superior when they die to easy to dodge mechanics and still have the balls to call the tank (WHO BTW TOOK NEARLY NOTHING IN DAMAGE LOL!) shit for going through the whole thing. Even the other two with me were like "wow...what a dick..." This is one of possibly 50 times I always avoid PVE in this game. Treat your tanks with respect people, no matter how undergeared they are...One day they might LET YOU DIE if you pull aggro off and complain that the tank can't hold aggo... -

There shouldn't be any tight packs of hostile enemies if you go north through Gridania and N. Shroud, people are usually willing to help if you need an escort anyway though. I checked the time again and I doubt I could make it. That's the same time when I will be raiding (9pm est to 1am) so even if I book it I doubt I could make it for even a minute if it lasts that long even -

Anima Weapons and You: A Guide for Killing Yourself Again
Parth Makeo replied to Warren Castille's topic in FFXIV Discussion
As a casual in pve on this game, I would like to say that so far the anima weapon grind to me makes me less and less excited to do it. I never got far in the zeta but I at least had some kind of blast (atma took me 6 months...) This....this is just trying to make us do old content. I know the step for the beast tribes can be skipped but the gil is too much for me. If I was more pve focused here than WoW. I'd probably still think it's bad but I would grind it for the sake of seeing if the weapons gets better... But this is as lazy as what blizzard did with valor in warlords...forcing mythic raiders to do illrelevant mythic dungeons and LFR to be able to upgrade their gear...and no one in my guild liked it. Then again I shouldn't speak of pve here...I have yet to do Alexander Raid....mostly because time reason and scared that people in pugs would kick me for having minimum entry gear + never done it before. Pugs are toxic as hell here. -

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Parth Makeo replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
Oh i just picked up something else I have some insecurity about... RPing and Building villains! In the past i have been on both sides. I've played villain characters in RP before and was usually told how great they were. Either they had a great reason to be a villain or just how irredeemable they are yet still loveable (I remember this one character I had that was the Majordomo to a dark lord and when he shows up, straight up kills her without any remorse. Everyone cheered she died but then were like 'Oh right...main bad guy.') But in terms of FF14, this is a world where in lore, the villains are either "EMREGERD PRIMALS" or "EMEGERD CERRUPTION!" or "EMEGERD VERD!" (aka: Primals, Corruption and Void) and i'll admit the villains i have in place fall under one or all of these. Many people I know from past RP experiences in Forums usually have this irk about a villain being either TOO much like lore or TOO lore breaking. there is no real fine line in my eyes. I feel as if my villains in this RP event will either not live up to expectations or worse would ruin the game for people if I say use what is considered plot relevant in this realm for villainy. "Then don't make a villain who is apart of " I have...and they were so bland and boring i had to get rid of them super fast. The past villains i had were nothing but cannon fodder for the bigger picture for my friends...Whom recently stopped RPing a lot for some reason "You should of done this earlier" I could but then waste character building and actual story progression. It can't be done in a week... And you pretty much get what kind of pressure i am feeling at this time. I like writing both sides. Especially villains...but when it comes to an MMO scape it changes how i approach the whole thing. I've met a few people on other toons and dropped some hints and what not for the event in case they wish to come and see. I know not everyone will be pleased but i'd rather not piss the whole server off or come off as someone who is a bad RPer. In short: I feel as if the near year long villain thing i had planned and slowly hinted at over the last few months will not be met with open arms when it finally comes and as such be shunned for said RP from Everyone... -

It may be how he speak and not his general appearance or tone. If majority of the conversation is negative, most people would consider it "emo' in a way. Xyla for instance has the same monotone and wears mostly black but despite this, she is still learning things and has some positive moments despite not smiling. Much like the slight warm feeling she got from a gift on saturday. It didn't show but her pause when she looked at it could say she did appreciate it. -

Parth Makeo replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
As the days get closer to my first event on the server for public people, I worry about how individuals react to what unfolds, if they will belittle it and how the fights work. There is also the air about how it has a lot of NPC characters and if images Will suffice. I've never done an mmo rp event and I'm uncertain if it will catch any attention. The first part I put up may happen during grindstone...so I am not expecting too many. It is a scouting sort of party first. -
