Aww shucks! The best things I do are outside of my awareness. x_x Honestly though it's a great lesson in how to role play by being aware of events that don't exactly pertain to your character, but the ones around you. Getting involved and offering in them is a great way to build stories for everyone! Much Love, Ebony Goddess!

Aww thank you! Berrod and Oscare did a great job with the role play fight and then everyone else really made the scene with drinking, stories, and healing wounds. Berrod especially being un-modest and brash! Le Gasp!

Such fashion. Much ladies. And much men. o_o Only Otto could pull of white mage shorts like that!
-
I have to admit when you first started you were really bold and yelled for attention. That takes a lot for someone to do to get them self out there! Your character is hilarious with his eccentric nature and all the antics CC seems him do. If people haven't met Otto yet, they need to. Perhaps from a safe distance. Don't let him notice you! Or do! I'm not sure which is better!

Jancis returned to her room at the Mizzenmast. She was tired after a long day of training and she gratefully sat down in one of the wooden chairs in the small room. Digging through her small bag of belongings she pulled out the notebook Oscare had given her days earlier and started flipping through it. Curiously studying the pictures, she reached near the back of the book with the pictures of the hunter smiling along side another man, hoping to catch the details she needed. If one of these had an image of this bow, she had a shot of finding it on the market. Or at least spotting it from afar should that... what had he called it again? Ninja? If this mysterious man had kept the bow or gave it to someone it would still prove useful. There in the book there was a clue. The older man with Oscare was carrying a simple bow with a small piece of ruby on both ends.Gray and yellow stripes adorned its limbs. That must be him, this man had the same skin tone as Oscare, same purple eyes, and has vivid red hair. She continued to look and paused. One of the pictures struck her as peculiar. There was one picture of who she believed to be Oscare's father and some other man -- light skin tone, vivid red hair, tall. Just like the man she had been asking around Limsa for. Frowning, she closed the notebook. Tomorrow she would start asking the archers and merchants about bows, leading into a ruby-tipped one. She had doubts though and felt that Oscare was not telling her something.

Jancis stared out over the ocean outside of Limsa. She had been training for the day and just finished her meditation. The break was almost over and she pondered at the end of it. The moments of clarity swirled away like a stormcloud, random and out of nowhere, and she pondered. Yesterday evening she had been confronted by her first mate, her beloved, Lady Hornet, and Oscare. They all came to her for the same reason and in quick succession until their questions and attention combined into a mountain in front of Jancis. They had all heard through the grapevine that she, Jancis, was asking around for the mysterious tall red-headed man. They were all concerned for her safety should the wrong people hear of her inquiries. She had failed to get any information as it was, much to her frustration, and she had not divuldge the more important part of the search for that man. Alveo had been acting oddly the entire time, as well. Despite her attention, he was feigning. Did it have something to do with this thief? She frowned. She was no child to be coddled so and she failed to see how her questions would put others in danger. Time was a factor, in fact the bow was probably already fenced. Mayhaps if she went around looking to purchase a bow she'd have luck in at least finding that. It would keep her in the good graces of her company at the same time achieving her goal. If that notebook has a picture, I might have a chance on finding it. she thought to herself. A new goal in mind, Jancis started practicing again on the coastline.

It sounds like a lot of the problem is really from the inability to name change in a realistic way and that's a real blunder on the developer's part. I go along with people ICly when they "do the change" to a point. Otherwise if I drastically changed my character then it would honestly just be a new persona in game. I've come to enjoy the mistakes I make when I create a character; they become endearing. I made a cleric/ranger once in Neverwinter Nights which turned out to be a really bad combination, but as it was on a role play private created server I fell in love with her and went with it. She was also human and on the server half-elf was what Dunedain were suppose to be. So she ended up being a regular human whose family protected Dunedain and ended up travelling with her "brother". It brought up a lot of mistrust with the elves, rangers, men, until she proved her motives and she was the best mistake ever. I would have never experienced her storyline if I went and 'fixed' the problem for my initial idea.

"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Jancis replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
I think my main focus on Jancis' wiki page is that, ultimately, it's for me. I keep it mostly as a list of facts and notes (written in semi story form) of things I have to remember for her. Keeping it short helps out a lot and makes it easy to keep updated. As long as I don't think of it as a storyboard it's manageable. -
This is a fun exploration into the persona mind! Jancis grew up fairly sheltered and 'protected' in the Shroud with two very dominate highlanders from Ala Mhigo. With that background she sees each gender as equal and didn't get any experience elsewhere to feel otherwise. She doesn't really know any Keepers so the only gender roles she's really experienced are from men and the honor they hold themselves up to with asking for or accepting help from her (which in most cases has been to refuse it) or who to treat first after battle. She's honored it in most extents simply because of the person's individual wish. While this isn't exactly gender-based, Jancis also treats lalafell equally and not as children. A lot of people seem to around her and it's an oddity she doesn't understand.

It was warm and very sunny in Limsa. Jancis walked around to every venue on the Upper Decks, starting in the Wench, asking about a tall man with red hair that had been in the city the past couple days. She knew Alveo was taking on more formal leads, asking the Maelstrom and the city guard what they saw and knew. That man, once given ambition, was very reliable and quick-witted. Still, Jancis wanted to be useful. If she could find any information out from the locals, it would at least be of help. She described what little she knew of the man from word of mouth. Very tall with vivid red hair. He was seen with a bow in his arm, the bow was an heirloom piece and quite important. The man was seen around the Admiral's offices and was rumored to be heading for Ul'dah next. Jancis continued around the city, checking with the ferryman and other basic merchants who knew the caravans and people on the road. She had an ache in her heart; she wasn't sure if it was from pure concern or some guilt. From the notebook Oscare had given her, Jancis was sure the bow was of great sentimental value and had to be recovered. But also, she felt a need to be nice to Oscare. The man had depth beyond the garish exterior; he was selfless and warmhearted. He had asked her to be his friend and she was going to dedicate herself to that task. As much as Alveo would permit. "Oi, just don't be too nice. Okay Dear?" he had said before. It was such a gray area, such a blade for her to walk on. But surely, someone would have information on this mystery man.

Yahoo! Chat How awesome is that. I was doing that for a *very* short time until I found the wide world of MUDs to play in on my AOL connection on my "very updated" computer at the time which had an internal ZIP Drive. Yeah. ZIP Drive. That lasted. Google that outdated piece of junk. Can only imagine what my grandfather paid for that. I have so much fun on this game role playing. The community is great and it's nice to have another fun person branching out into it. Welcome!

I have to say on your art page the chibi of C'sien is adorable.
-
That is so funny because the other night in the bar Jancis actually described Oscare as garish. Oh and he loves presents and being paid back for favors. And being stared at. And squirrels. And anything with paprika in it.

Calling all techies (or, "I need a new computer.")
Jancis replied to Ackermans's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Pffft laptops are so yesterday. Tablets are the way to go. Just touch and win. -
Jancis would be moved to help protect people and support the fighters as she could. She's been coddled a bit too much in the safety of city walls. But if a healer is needed for simple hard modes I'm happy to sit as standby.

Really fun character Jancis has run into the past few days is Oscare Iono. He's a garish fella who is hilarious. In what was to be just an immerse/relationship letter, it ended up making a scene in the middle of Ul'dah. Good times!

Well I don't want to be mistaken for being angry or having hatred. It's fine that people want to have fun; it's fine that I don't want to have that kind of fun. If it's an annoyance, then you don't have to play with them. I'm not saying to automatically just blacklist someone because they do a flash mob on a friend and bounce around talking about spoons off and on. But if someone keeps spamming the same line over and over no one has to put up with it out of the sake that they're being nice. Passively ignoring, blacklisting and not paying attention to them takes far less effort than trying to convert. It is an action, no doubt, but don't make it out to be like it's something vindictive or mean. Don't make it out like it's callous and jaded. It really isn't; just don't want anyone to be fooled they're making a difference in changing someone's opinion. People who convert over to role playing will because they see role play happening around them not affected by grief antics. They'll be quiet and spectate rather than do everything they can to disrupt. They'll re-roll or find people to engage with and their name will start coming off of blacklists. Last man standing, time and time again, is the person who doesn't feed the troll, not the counter-troll.
-
That would be feeding the troll.

Problems like this are really old. Honestly moving where you are only shows that they are making an impact, they are getting attention, and they are doing something. It amazes me that people do not use blacklist. Use it. Tell other people to use it. Stand your ground and ignore them passively. We're the community; keep it that way. If someone divided up their time of day and who they spend it on, how much of a percentage would it be on people they don't care about or want to be involved with. Don't give crap people your valuable time. Invest it in people you like and want to "spend" time with. Lalalala spending your time like money. I've noticed the people on the bench, sure, but past that my focus is on what's really happening: the fun talk of some lalafell screeching a song, the guard trying to focus on their linkshell and talk to people, someone yelling about how his gil purse was stolen. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Don't_feed_the_Troll

So many familiar words. Amazing to recall a game when that expansion was out years ago. And for some reason the name looks familiar. I moved to Moon Guard early on in Wrath of the Lich King where I fell in love with raiding and, honestly, I found most role players did not care for people who were progressive in PvE. Recently for the end of Pandaria I made the move to Wyrmrest Accord. It is nice to have a break from studying theory craft and working on constant progression, particularly on role play servers as the raiding pool is quite shallow and for the Accord it is all only ten man groups. Balmung has the nicest community I've seen on a game in awhile and I really enjoy everyone I run into. There's a lot of nice guilds/free companies to check out and try. Walking around the streets of any city, particularly Ul'dah, you'll find people role playing. It's immersive.

What is the most appealing kind of character to you?
Jancis replied to Enzo's topic in RP Discussion
Well said. I'm not much over the top and it helps a lot for a character to need others in order to survive because it builds a role play community. If someone is too great at a plethora of things then no one else can fill in their gaps. I think limiting magic is also important to small bursts, serious need situations, and to give it holes where it can fail. Someone who has too much ability or knowledge in a wide variety of magic fields better be really really old and can't do much else than talk or summon power at times of ultimate need. I personally like to play filler characters that have a few quirks and try to support others. They take a fall often, because they're not enough people willing to lose a lot of the time, and don't go on about their past. In these kind of games it should be a given in the community that everyone has lost a lot and it's just a part of life. Everyone dealt with the Calamity and war in some form or another. -
Hello! I use to role play (sparingly) on World of Warcraft and never broke through beyond spectating at music performances on LotRO. I have to say this server is the nicest place I've role played in years; everyone is really open and approachable.

I love it when people knock on the fourth wall. It's great when CC drops in lines from pop culture in a serious fashion like an Easter Egg. Tasty little eggs hidden around the Rock Horror Picture set... I don't really care about doing corrections unless the statement is way too confusing without it; just doesn't seem that important to draw attention to otherwise. I found most times when I make a mistake people won't notice it unless I point it out. People typically read what is intended anyway. Especially in huge gatherings I have trouble reading as it is so let typos slide. Too much text to keep up with in those cases.

This isn't entirely IC but I wanted to give a little shout out to Gus "the Pumpkin King" for inspiring a lot of us party-goers to start a drinking game during the beach namesday celebration. He had a few key phrases that prompted people to take a drink or a shot!

Either way she's so adorable. *love*
