  1. Hell, I LARPed a disfigured mute purely for munchkin cheesing and it was the most fun and one of the best characters I ever played. Y'know why nobody complained? 'cause there wasn't a goddamn mute/disfigured person in the entire vicinity of the game. Damn sure they would have, and they'd be within their rights to do so, if they were. I'm still learning about my own personality disorder, and at best you'll hear me snark about how not all obsessive disorders are compulsive ya dinguses. And nobody knows jack shit about hyper-vigilant narcissism so yeah. Someone would portray those like they're making fun of those? You damn right I would be complaining. Media gets personality disorders wrong so often that a lot of us are numb to it. You don't hear about people being offended because most people who would be don't exactly have a channel to actually get their thoughts out in public. At best it's limited to personal blogs who, let's be real here, won't matter none.
  2. this man has amazing taste in special attacks. tetsuzanko forever o7
  3. I can totally believe that avatar would be coquettish, and the user seems friendly too.
  4. What do I think of this thread? I think it'll be locked at around... page 6. Page 7 if we're lucky. Already, you could see people sniping at each other. I also do not believe that anyone using the term hugbox unironically is actually coming into a discussion with the intent of actually being fair to all positions. This isn't just for you Natalie because there's a couple of other peeps who I don't know if they've posted in this thread or no that've used it in the past. It's extremely reductive of what these threads do. You see them as "hugboxes", I see 'em as necessary threads to counterbalance the other threads. I'll give you an example : The compliment thread - It's nice to be complimented, and I'd dare say there ain't a lot of that going on elsewhere. Sure we have the Kudos! thread, but how many go on there and take the time to actually give them out? Not a lot. That you have to give out a compliment to receive one is a good idea that forces people to actually give before they can receive. More people have interacted with me with that thread than they have from me actually posting good content. Has the community changed? As someone who never really fully integrated in it (you might think differently - but post count only means I post a lot. If you take a look at any of the IC threads I have had I've not really interacted much because they're either journal threads or the Bulletin Board) I'm pretty sure nothing changed, just that the level of snark went extremely high because we all got used to the previous level of snark. Like we were actively looking for negative reactions and to piss people off just to prove our words have an effect. Then we turn around and disparage people for being affected by "mere words" when, let's be honest here, we SPECIFICALLY worded the posts for that purpose. So when people stopped reacting we started piling on more of it until hey everyone's passively-aggressively sniping at each other for shit that happened 3 threads past on the same subject. But whatever you know, RPers gonna RP and I'd be hard pressed to find a community where that shit didn't happen.
  5. Speaking of the "fuck VIT" playstyle, I really hope they fix that in Heavensward. 'cause at this point there's no point in VIT unless they put tank one shot mechanics unless you've stacked VIT, and that's not exactly fun gameplay. Dunno how they would fix it other than removing VIT accessories altogether, but y'know. But yeah, alternative playstyles are quite interesting to explore. if I had time, I'd probably make the Worst Relic In The History of The Sultansworn on an alt - A Excaegis combo with nothing but Determination, Piety and Spell Speed, using Cure as a mitigation/aggro tool. This wouldn't be for raiding purposes obviously, but for some fun. (It'd also fit my Laladin alt's mentality but bullshit I'm gonna get 50 and relic on her before Heavensward drop) Cleric Stance Dance on SCH is MAGICAL. Not only for all the damage, but Energy Drain's MP restore is based entirely on the damage you do, so in the case you don't need the Aetherflow heal, that's another way to restore MP.
  6. An anecdote while it's fresh in my mind. Some of you may be aware that there's currently a RPG speedrunning marathon called RPG Limit Break over yonder on twitch for the benefit of NAMI. So, I'm in chat, someone asks if people want to share stories of mental illnesses/disorders. Since I got a more solid diagnostic... Tuesday, I decided to do so. First thing I got was someone makin' fun of it. So, yeah. Which is typically the reaction I get from whoever I mention this to. * * * So yeah, when I mention not interpreting others' reactions to your character, that's kinda where I'm coming from - a place where even people who're sensible to the issue can tell me to fuck right off or the equivalent. Chances are if you've remotely thought about your character, if you decide to give them a disorder it'll be played marginally better than someone who just thought X character from Y movie with Z misrepresented disorder is so fuckin' cool that they have to essentially "port" them to FFXIV + a difference. I'd also add "Don't make the disorder the chief explanation for your character's acts". I can understand if it explains certain quirks, etc. But when "They have schizophrenia" is the first thing you utter when someone goes why did you do that, that kinda falls flat.
  7. Think the problem is we're not arguing on the same page. I don't think anyone would argue against anyone trying to play what they want to play. Especially since, let's be real here, if we see anything show up in RP it'd be anxiety/depression. Personality disorders we might see borderline, bipolar or extremely misrepresented OCD. I have a personal problem against saying a character's mental illness is cute by default because that's entirely subject to the whims of the character that's interacting with you. Some might not find the crippling anxiety cute - some might just be mad that you're being anxious.
  8. I'm not exactly a fan of romanticizing mental illness. Mostly 'cause you can't romanticize mine.
  9. I queued as Tank. I have the easiest time around there. Bring 'em in front for the cannons to rip 'em. Only time I had problems was to dodge Vishap's swinge and other things like that.
  10. That'd be interesting and definitely a way to revamp the thing that would alleviate this situation entirely. Just make the gear from that dyeable with some exceptions and people will lose their collective minds.
  11. All right, now find 7 other bodies who want to go through Chrysalis/SoF. You have no resources outside PF. We are post Heavensward. Have fun. The iLevel is actually less of a concern to me because of that (and chances are we'll see some pieces in the 51-55 range that go down to 48-49 just so you know). It's more the fact that you still need to find peeps to do those quests with that'll be roadblocking. Another way to alleviate this would be by adding 2.1 to 2.55 to the Main Scenario Roulette and convert it to an alternate low-level path that grants you extra rewards if you do it at 60.
  12. Nope - 'cause if you can complete quests and advance story you'll catch up in iLevel pretty fast. Maybe not anything ideal but enough that you can keep advancing. The Level 15 in that example simply cannot ever possess gear enough that will do that. Actually I just thought of a thing. WHAT IF THE FIRST STUFF IN HEAVENSWARD WE CAN CRAFT IS LEVEL 50 STUFF PRECISELY TO ALLEVIATE THIS ISSUE?
  13. T'caska is pretty cool and punching miqo'tes are better than other miqo'tes.
  14. It's not because people do it that it automatically makes the advice to not do it invalid. I mean, how many smokers you hear saying you shouldn't start 'cause it's bad for you? Does that make the advice invalid? Same thing here - Don't talk shit behind people's backs shouldn't be something we do, but we do it regardless. We often need reminders not to do it because otherwise we'll just treat others like trash and feel validated because a coterie of yes-peeps will be encouraging us every step of the way. That being said, I am terribly disappointed, again, in this community.
  15. Is there a point to do so (and from what I understand a lot of it will be behind the flying mounts which likely will require a MSQ unlock)? It's the same as stepping into Mor Dhona as a level 15. You can. Doesn't mean there's any point for you to do that.
  16. If you want to have a story-focused design, that's fine. There are ways to do that that does not gate the content through group content requiring a certain iLevel that will be extremely difficult to obtain not because the content is difficult, but because there will be too few players at that level. My point is more that they should address this now, and not in the inevitable post-Heavensward expansion when the problem will be even worse. From previous interviews I thought they started at 30.
  17. I would have loved to see Tataru the Marauder.
  18. Ideally, yeah. I mean if you look at another expansion down the line - I'm thinking mostly how difficult it'll be to actually run the instances at that level since nobody will want to run them. Right now it's easy because roulettes can help out, but in Heavensward I can't see anyone running those voluntarily unless they're doing it to help a friend out. Which is not necessarily an option for everyone. The problem isn't now - now is easy peasy. You can catch up no problem because there's a large pool of players at that level. Come Heavensward, that large pool of players? They're grinding to 60 and playing over there. That's where it'll become most difficult, and Square WILL have to do something about it. But then again it wouldn't be video games development if people actually planned shit through so I'm kinda whatever. (Personal bitterness~!)
  19. The best part about staying relatively unknown in most RP circles is that I'm not involved in stuff like that. I have a tumblr, but I don't really follow much of anyone and barely post on it. It's there if I want to use it for stuff and follow other people. As such, I'm not seeing most of the negativity unless directly linked to it. I personally don't see why stirring shit up is so gratifying, and I don't see how ANYONE can reasonably think that this kind of stuff won't get traced back to them. I mean you have a character blog MAYBE THE PERSON MAINTAINING THAT BLOG IS THE SAME AS THE PERSON WHO PLAYS THAT CHARACTER.
  20. It's not an if/or proposition. They could have gated it behind the MSQ, but not placed iLevel requirements on the MSQ to begin with.
  21. I think the moment I heard someone say "you can't level past 10 without a party" I went hahahahahahahaha who designs a game like that square you're on crack. and thus is the story on how I never played XI.
  22. but what will we find there we already know bahamut was there. oh i know you want to find the tribe of namingways!
  23. Assuming we're not leaving Eorzea? Ala Mhigo seems like the obvious choice. We're also gonna need to deal with Sharlayan COMPLETELY DISAPPEARING.
  24. The worst part I think would be learning the necessary tankswaps assuming I'm going as WAR. If not, it's standard DPS fare of don't stand in shit.
