You can create the best RP ever in either Limsa or Gridania, but if nobody's there to see it there's no real point. It has to be good and it has to be consistent. It'd be cool if all three cities were good hubs, and quite frankly I much prefer the Wench to the Quicksand in terms of NPC atmosphere (although it may just be attachment to the first adventurers' alehouse I encountered due to Kellach starting in Limsa) Then again there's no point leaving Ul'dah to begin with - Where there is RP, there will be griefing/trolling/what have you. All you'd be doing is displacing the "problem".

I haven't noticed anything but I haven't chilled in the Quicksand in quite some time (mostly been wanting to get 50 Warrior out of the way so I can start building up a decent RP set). There's the usual stuff going on in Ul'dah and it took me maybe a week after I joined the game to notice so it's not really a new development. Then again I'm way too girly for my class apparently ;P

This has got to be the worst account support I've seen
Kellach Woods replied to Kellach Woods's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I can typically get account support through e-mail on the weekends. Not so in this case. Hence the "worst" even if it's not by a large margin. Although phone support for TOR was hilarious because the dude was CLEARLY flustered at my secret question answer. -
Besides, they're not alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings. Seriously though you can play a character the way you want no matter where you come from. Some characters may react to yours like it's usual to see them drinking and you might have an in with some folks by showing you're a teetotaler Lominsan.

Account automatically assumes I'm from the US? Check. Can't change country of account (which means can't set up recurring subscription)? Check. Impossible to reach anyone on the weekends to fix these issues? Check. It's my fault for not checking this yesterday because I thought I was rolling up through Monday with the first 30 months but still, that's kinda bad regardless of my own screw up. (Also if you guys have any workarounds it'd be great to know them.) UPDATE : I thought I'd be able to bypass this entire stupidity by purchasing a Game Time Card. Not so, it seems. UPDATE THE SECOND : Lying seems like the universal key to everything, and a bad lesson to teach to people.

LTB a new headset. What do you use?
Kellach Woods replied to Menelwen's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Can confirm. That's what I use at home and it does work wonders. -
I just went "Welp his ancestors were woodsmen. Now they live near the woods. Done let's go." It really can be anything. Think of a mostly western europe name and you've got it made. Ultimately, unless you call yourself something out of MST3K Space Mutiny you're good.

An FC Leader's Question--Quality or Snobbery?
Kellach Woods replied to Faye's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
That's why I put the caveat that my main experience with applications was from another game, and I should have mentioned that they also wanted a raiding group at the time. It wasn't strictly RP. I dunno, as much as it's for time saving and things, it just feels weird to me. Most of the times it feels like I actually am applying for a job and much like others have mentioned in a thread, when it becomes a job, it stops being fun. -
An FC Leader's Question--Quality or Snobbery?
Kellach Woods replied to Faye's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Personally, I can say the following : -I'll never join a guild that has an extensive interview process because I just do not have the time for that. I have a 40 hour day job without even talking about the commute (when we have projects ;.; ), I have hobbies and interests that aren't FFXIV - The time I put in this game is the time I can put in this game. I've yet to see a single guild that had an interview process understand that (this is mainly from WoW, keep in mind - I stopped applying after that). -I'll never join a guild that invites me out of the gate without even asking me if I even want to be in a guild. Suffice it to say, I've not joined a lot of groups in my MMO playing experience. -
I'm thinking of subscribing just for RP - how is it?
Kellach Woods replied to Kat's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Momodi is love. As is her IC assistant (The lovely and talented Aya "Hey bring me another beer" Foxheart). Also Catboys on railings. Catboys perched on railings as far as the eye can see I think we can all agree on one thing : Gridania is boring. -
Ahoy! Welcome to Balmung. I'm pretty new there myself but it's fun so far.

Balmung (NA Legacy) on Lockdown
Kellach Woods replied to Vincent Ackerman's topic in FFXIV Discussion
May as well keep it open for more info. From my observations (I've created 6 characters on Balmung with two of them rerolls and I started playing... last week), the realm is open to creations approximately one block out of 5. 4:00 am / 8:00 am / 1:00 pm / 6:00 pm / 11:00 pm (All times in PDT) The only blocks I've seen Balmung open are in bold. There may be possibilities that the realm will be open, on weekdays on the 11:00 pm block but someone would need to check that. -
Letters to my mum (OOC Welcome! / Journal kind of!)
Kellach Woods posted a topic in Town Square (IC)
((If you find conflicting lore, just tell me and I'll try and fix it in a retcon. Stuff left unspecified is because I am not all that knowledgeable in it.)) * * * Dear Mum, I just finally got settled in Limsa Lominsa. I know, I know, it took six months for me to write back after my original letter to let you know where I could be found but life has taken a turn for the hectic and unexpected. I haven't had time to sit down and write about all the things that have been happening here. Now that I have finally a good moment to gather my thoughts and write to you, I decided to actually do it. It's been a long time since you told me you wanted your frail little boy to live a better life than working the fields in season, and woodcutting in the winter. Sure, I tried helping out as much as possible but if you remember well, you always were there to prevent me from taking off more than I could chew. If you could see me now, you'd probably faint from stress. Still, you wept when I boarded the boat that would bring me to Limsa Lominsa, to learn from the Arcanists of Melvaan's Gate and perhaps make something more of myself than a simple farmer. I guess my bad luck followed me here because the boat was attacked by pirates! Everyone was surprised as a transport towards Limsa flying the city's colors would not be attacked by fellow pirates, but still, attacked we were. I had just finished resting and had engaged in conversation with a polite merchant when the pirates were spotted. I urged the merchant to take refuge below deck as the boat was rocked with cannon fire. I grabbed an axe off a dead marauder and started wildly flailing when we were assaulted. I killed two pirates. It wasn't all that different than killing an animal for its meat. I know, I know, you're thinking I never did that, but whenever dad went to cut wood or slaughter animals he'd have me do half of the work just so I did my share. Turns out I developed a stronger body than I thought since I could lift the heavy axe and actually control it. I aimed for the legs, and brought it down on their neck after the hit. After the yellow jackets saw me handle my own, they asked that I join them for a mug of ale. I tried to refuse, but they wouldn't take no for an answer. After three mugs and learning a few sea chanties, I followed them to the Marauders' Guild and signed up. Please don't worry though, mum! I've also enrolled in the Arcanists' Guild to actually study! I know that being a marauder is not the life you envisioned for me but you've always been blind to my actual abilities. Dad never thought I was too frail for work, but you never wanted me to follow him. I'm not blaming you - I know I am kind of sensitive but that is no reason that I cannot do physical work. However, like dad I agree that there is much value in studying. I just... have more responsibilities as a marauder these days. I'm sorry for disappointing you but I hope I live up to your expectations by becoming the best man I can be, even if it wasn't why you allowed me to come to Limsa Lominsa in the first place. I'll become an Arcanist, mum. I'm just taking the long way there. With love, your son Kellach -
Ah. Crapola. Investigation resumes! (I'll probably just do the same, unspecified part of Eorzea that's far from Limsa. Y'know, that'll work better!)
-
I have a couple of questions. Characters are deemed to have come from somewhere else than Eorzea sometimes, and I like that idea for one of my characters. I'd just like to know (considering we're talking about a 2.0 character) when it would be appropriate for him to have shown up in the five years that span 1.0/2.0 and in an unrelated question, how well known would Melvaan's Gate be outside of Eorzea?

Thanks! I haven't done much RP yet (still exploring the game, kind of) but I plan to.
-
Thanks for the welcome. I think I just got done establishing my roster on Balmung. Names and looks and all. So if you see either of : Kellach Woods (Male Midland) Solyne Wynn (Female Midland) Aurimont Balzac (Male Wildwood) Oblivion Feather (Female Hellguard) Feel free to hit me up. I have very basic ideas for these characters but most of the stuff will come up in RP rather than not.

So yes. Newness and all that. I'm usually referred to as Hatman, but lately I've taken to having login names that are just puns that contain the word Hat since the nickname mostly devolves into that anyway. --MMORPG background Hoo boy there's a lot. Those I've RPed in though : - World of Warcraft - City of Heroes - Champions Online - DC Universe Online (yes there is a RP community there) Those are all the significant ones. I may have RPed elsewhere but it wasn't for long and wasn't that significant. --RP experience Any MMO I've played seriously, I've RPed in. Other than that, I've done forum RP (This is a long shot but any of you remember Neo Etheral Terra? I was on that), I've done e-feds, I've done chat RP (nowhere significant) and various other things. I've done PNP RP (ADND 2nd, 3.5e, Path, 4e. BESM 3rd. ShadowRun 3rd and 4th. Nephilim. WoD (mostly Vampire and Mage, but we threw in a Werewolf/Hunter game or two). Star Wars (d20, Saga) and last but not least a very terribad game of Feng Shui). I've also LARPed for 9 years but I stopped when good fantasy LARPs stopped existing . --Character ideas/info I've a few. The only character I've been able to create on Balmung so far is Kellach Woods, a very... "effeminate" MRD (lipstick, pink highlights and stars under his right eye). I don't know much about his story. I just wanted someone who didn't look like a typical Marauder. Originally I wanted to spec into Arcanist/Scholar as well but that's gonna be for later most likely. He is likely to be my main man. He is also a qtπ. I'll probably have two others in the wings, but I'm still coming up with the concepts beyond race/culture/starting class/looks. --How did you learn about the coalition? I'm not going to surprise you by saying "I typed in google FFXIV roleplay." --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Ideally, heavy. However I never have the dedication to be a Heavy RPer so I'll say Medium. I want to be in accordance with the lore while still doing subversions. I tend to be a very, very bizarre character creator and this is across all RPs I've played. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) Hobbies involve competitive video gaming (fighting games most specifically), pro wrestling (although I'm "retiring" next year), writing (can't say it's my job because I haven't made a living off it). Also, my first language isn't English. That's pretty much it, really.
