  1. We've mentioned nothing of cackling. Just that this is something that has literally not come up in any of the materials presented for Heavensward and that until they actually say "this is our plan for new characters once they reach 50" all of it is speculation. The fact is, they're not speaking an iota about it and that is more worrying than them actually going out and stating that. (also, having experience in development does not make you immune to making mistakes or making bad assessments of what people want) There is one lesson most people are forgetting - they've released numerous expansions in the past with relatively great success, and even the most "unfriendly" expansion released, Burning Crusade, you could move onto the expansion content 2 levels before max level, no extra content to be done other than reaching 58, and speaking to a NPC that was right next to the Dark Portal. Hardly a large time commitment. Considering how much of western MMOs they put into the game, I'm surprised they didn't get that memo. A player that is just on an alt likely has ways to mitigate the issue anyway. Skipping cutscenes, a pre-established network of people to help them level, knowledge of the classes and how they interact with one another, ways to make XP faster, etc. I'm arguing as a player who first subscribes to the game post-Heavensward.
  2. No source, no evidence. And consider the answers to this thread : how would it alienate the playerbase?
  3. That's why I specified a rando FC rather than one you've carefully selected and want to be a part of. I'm not against forcing people through group content compared to what most infer. I'm against doing it when there's going to be a dearth of players at that level. The problem isn't forcing people - it's making a system where you have to do it when there won't be that many players at that level, forcing you through extra hoops rather than what you are technically supposed to do (queue up through duty roulette, complete). And if anyone is saying they will obviously fix this, only one thing to say to that. What's your source?
  4. Try going into Coil while undergeared - just T1 will do. You have an Echo buff from the start these days, but you still need i70 to do so. Patching in an Echo buff won't change iLevel requirements, and yeah sure it's easy to get up there in iLevels these days... provided you can get a group, period. Unless they went out of their way to make solo versions of these instances (which would be arguably incredibly stupid) what you propose won't change a thing. The best news to combat a bit of this (in short from 30-49) is that new classes start at 30. Since that means from 30 onwards there'll be a bigger pool of people leveling DRKs and Astros. The problem is the amount of available bodies who will be around to do 2.1-2.5 content. The only solution that's been brought forward is literally "let's help the new people!" or "they should join an established FC!" Joining a rando FC should never be a solution, and people here shouldn't feel pressured into helping out new people. Since this needs reiterating : NO ONE IS SAYING THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THE CONTENT. I'm saying that this decision has underlying problems that I'd like the devs to address.
  5. So, kudos to the IC WP Normal team of awesome at running away from huge ass tonberries, in-combat reactions, and amazing explorations! Which means : L'yhta Mahre Eamont Desormeaux K'ahne Tariq (WITH BONUS SOLDIERY TO BOOT!) * * * I'd also like to thank the following NPCs for providing us with amazing repartee. Bronze Buzzard Bronze Beetle Tonberry Tonberry Stalker Keeper of Halidor and last, but certainly not least THE NOT DEAD, STILL BREATHING, BUT SLIGHTLY LESS RANCOROUS TONBERRY KING
  6. I come up with a basic concept, then a story, then leave it to simmer for a while. If by the time I'm ready to actually pick up the character, I find I don't like either of the concept or the story, I dump it. That's why I dumped Aurimont, Cwinuwil, etc.
  7. Exactly why people are concerned. They've not addressed that, nor have they addressed if airships will lock you out of significant content or no. Also, Echo buffs do not allow subgeared people to do the dungeons, btw. If you're undergeared you're undergeared and the system will not allow for that. They'd have to manually nerf and analyze the threshold needed to nerf it if necessary. Although, considering every rotation is rehauled, I'm not exactly sure if everything will work as intended at 50 since you will no longer be a complete character at that point.
  8. Personally the biggest problem with stance switching is that to remove the stance is no cooldown, but to put it on, there is. Kinda just want to put it on then take it off rather than wait but so it goes.
  9. You're not my real dad. I feel, for some reason, that this gif is relevant. Clicka.
  10. I'm spreadin' RP to dungeons on Sunday. but none of you are invited because I already got my other 3. if I get a non-WoL reasons to head into the other ones I'll be sure to, uh, not advertise it unless your character knows Kellach, I guess?
  11. So my car got rear-ended while I was patiently waiting in traffic. Some fuckhead saw a green light and went GOLLY GEE I GUESS THAT MEANS GO FAST WHAT DO YOU MEAN OTHER CARS? So he rammed the SUV behind me who rammed my car. I only got scratches, but that was still fucking annoying so.
  12. IIRC even T13 stopped stacking VIT while it was still relevant content. Saying they don't balance for casuals isn't the problem. Nor is it the gear treadmill (and I don't know where you got that from...?) It's essentially that VIT serves absolutely no purpose outside of the early days of the last turn. They could also up the tank damage by quite a bit, essentially forcing tanks to take VIT accessories across the board instead of just for turns.
  13. I legit said they're keeping acc "caps" (they're technically not caps as you can accumulate more, just that it's unnecessary) and you go and raise that point as though I didn't say that exact same thing...?
  14. Check the Live Letter notes - they're not doing away with Acc caps but they're rolling extra Acc in the tank stances to offset the extra accuracy needed to hit them from the front in Heavensward. So, that's one thing that you're bringing up that's "technically" going away. You'll still have an acc threshold, just won't need to have acc beyond what everyone else will stack. I'm just saying they could do the same with VIT. Especially since the VIT accessories sometimes came with an extra stat that is useless to non-tanks (parry specifically, though that's technically also useless to tanks because parry is booty mitigation). Yes but at that point they'd have to do away with the entire gear system. If there is only one ideal set of gear for your class, and everything is already taken care of, why even have gear except for vanity? It's a legitimate question, games like GW2 don't really make you stack gear. However I do sort of like the gear treadmill, and I like what little amounts of customization I can do with my gear, which is juggling food, accessories and bonus stats to reach my caps. Also accuracy caps are not going away, DPS need accuracy caps just like tanks do, just now tanks won't need extra. Other classes in progression have just as hard a time reaching caps as tanks do. edit: Skill speed is very important for warriors, since you asked. ...did you actually read my post or are you just trying to imply I'm a complete moron who's never played a MMO before. I'm genuinely curious.

I'm just saying they could do the same with VIT. Especially since the VIT accessories sometimes came with an extra stat that is useless to non-tanks (parry specifically, though that's technically also useless to tanks because parry is booty mitigation and doubly so for PLD). And let's be serious here - they need to overhaul the stats first and foremost anyway. Too many stats are completely useless to certain classes yet is found in abundance on their gear (is there a tank that's asked for Skill Speed ever?)
  16. So, uh, it's useful for a very minor subsection of people, in very limited context. Sounds like they could just do away with that, roll the extra VIT into Shield Oath/Defiance, and save people the headache.
  17. Honestly, I just hope they phase out the VIT accessories at level 60.
  18. Right now, my routine is : 1) Log in. 2) Get a level or two on a class I haven't 50d yet with Kell. 3) See if anyone I know wants to RP in a place where we can see what we're typing. 4) Log out 'cause number 3 ain't happening anytime soon unless it's planned (aka tomorrow night for me). 5) Play something else for a whole lot longer than I did FFXIV that day. So yeah my motivation is complete garbage right now - Dunno if it's just the RP scene that bores me what with everyone having their plotlines for Heavensward or just my mood in general that's gone to shit, but yeah. I dunno how to deal with it, and quite frankly if it's the second one there's not a lot I CAN do to deal with it. Like, I've allegedly recovered from a major depressive episode that I couldn't recognize because I've always been this way. So it might just be that, and if it is I'll need to accept that it's happening and that there's gonna be a lot more times where I'm completely fucked in the head temporarily.
  19. That's less of a concern than how many new players will there be at those levels? Most of the gating content is group-based. People are already having a tough time to do MSQ dungeons if they're a certain class while leveling. Not because they're difficult but because nobody queues for low-level unless they absolutely need to. Couple that with the typical lack of tanks/healers in MMOs, there's the recipe for a full blown disaster. Around as bad as the original Tri-Disaster.
  20. That's definitely treasure hunter gear for sure. Might be rare drops from level 60 treasure maps, too. 'cause, you know, he's a TREASURE HUNTER. Job wise, I'm kinda glad that they're doing that, but at the same time I worry because of the level 50 egi ability. If you glamour the egi, will THAT change (keep the same functionality, but give different effects, etc.) I also quite like Warrior's focus. BLM is interesting as well. SMN worries me a bit - Tri-Disaster will apply Miasma/Bio1/Bio2, but what about Miasma2? SCH finally going into what the fuck they were supposed to be doing (military strategy) through mechanics. All in all I'm loving these changes because they feel like they're being made with reconciling the lore of the classes with their gameplay.
  21. You may as well at least for accessories, since they'll work for MNK and DRG.
  22. this is one of the many, MANY reasons I do not like that VIT is completely useless (or that VIT gear exists in the first place)
