A friend's smaller sized FC is running an event at 10PM eastern on the 22nd of this month, and they could use some help with bartending and/or catering. If anyone is willing or know someone who might be, please drop me a message!

Yeah, that's the part I'm worried about since the crystal medium seems like it would be something unique to Red Mages. I was hoping to get away with it by saying it's just part of the ensemble since the little chocobo doesn't look like anything special.
-
Is the sword and crystal medium combo restricted to red magic/mages? 'Cause.. I'd like to have a character use the chicken knife as a generic spellsword or something rather than roleplaying an actual Red Mageā¢.

at least make them fill out an application to be your in-game waifu first

Qestir RPpers: how do you handle communication?
Pascaleret replied to Goodfellow's topic in Lore Discussion
The Qestir do seem to have their own written language as shown in one of the Reunion sidequest lines. Traders are given a "piece of vellum with Qestiri markings" to show that they're allowed to trade in Reunion. Whether this shows that the Qestir allow for written words, or if it's simply an exception to accommodate foreign traders is up for interpretation. Oddly enough, I read into that as being more as having, like... a wax seal of approval. There isn't actually Qestir language in long-form there, just them putting their stamp of approval on someone being there. More like a signature more than anything else, if that makes sense. Yeah, I agree with this. The "Qestiri markings" probably refers to their tribe symbol, like the stuff we see on the banners in the steppe, or the new furniture pieces, rather than a written language exclusive to Qestir. -

Most of the performances you'll see are people who have made macros beforehand, or at the very least have their acts prewritten somewhere to copy and paste. If you're looking for something that would make you stand out from the crowd, I'd suggest writing your own original material. A lot of the performances tend to just be macros containing lyrics that are either word for word taken from existing songs, or have been altered slightly into a lore-friendly parody. Interaction with the crowd is probably another good one. Add in bits to your macros that involve someone in the audience with . People come to events to RP, and IMO it's a lot more fun for everyone when the performance is something more than just copied and pasted Beyonce flooding the chat log one line at a time.

Tor is giving out free ebook copies of The Way of Kings on Thursday and Friday if anyone is interested.

I'm hooked on Sanderson stuff. I love the novels themselves but I love the whole same universe, different planets thing going on there. Seeing things pieced together, seeing characters pop up from other novels. It makes for good re-reading material for me. also, stick memes

They are. Mog Houses in FFXI were just single-use rooms that allowed you to garden and display indoor furniture. Didn't you also get.. a yard, and a garden..? I recall seeing a mog house where you could go out and check out your garden and look at the sea. No? Nah? I never played the game I was just linked pictures and screeched 'THIS IS WHAT WE NEED' and I nodded in agreement. Looks like I'm wrong, but they had second floooors? SECOND FLOOOORS? http://ffxiclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Mog_House Regardless though, an FC can't move into an apartment. So.. homeless FCs still screwed. I don't screech it's true though. Mog Houses are totally free, and they weren't open to everybody but you could invite people into your party and invite them to your House. And later on they added the option of a second floor and a patio. Plus once you get to Rank 3 with your nation they ship you off to the Mog Garden, which is similar to the farm from Monster Hunter where you can garden, gather, and raise baby animals. Even just a tiny little walled off patio would be a nice addition to apartments.

Please, please follow up on this and explain further. As the thread has shown, the RPC is mostly of one mind towards canon RPers, and I'd like to hear more from people who do like them about the draw, as well as some of the more complicated elements like how they handle characters that are canonically dead. In regards to the last part, I saw a member of the Heaven's Ward RPing in the middle of the Quicksand last night. His search comment stated that he had been "raised from the aether" which might have something to do with why he was now an Au Ra Raen instead of an Elezen?

Every time I see an NPC roleplayer out in the wild, I wonder how they would feel if someone made a carbon copy of their OC. Would they be fine with it, would they agree with the "it's cool, it's just for fun, if you don't like it then you don't have to RP with it" logic? Considering how many people I've seen up in arms over characters just having similar generic traits, I dunno. I don't get it.

That medicine is needed for someone's survival. You're not going to catch an infection and die because you didn't get a plot of land in Final Fantasy. Flipping pretend video game houses is not a matter of life and death. They only make that gil because people are willing to pay it, people who don't necessarily need a house, but want one anyway. The buyers could all band together and say nah, I'm not paying that. People who need their meds or their epipens or whatever else somebody is jacking up the price of these days don't always have that option. It's nowhere even close to "about the same". I never said it was the same in terms of severity or life and death, I said it was using the same douchebag logic as the prior example. That is how it is "about the same." It is about the same because it is an equally predatory act made without regard for others by exploiting a flawed system. It is about the same because when people buy up the limited housing space with the intent of placing an excessive premium on releasing that space to a player, they are giving them no where else to go for housing other than to pay their fee. It uses the same douchebag tactics, that is how it is "about the same." The scale of the the acts severity is not what I am comparing here, it is the fact that going through with either act is equally ethically and morally bankrupt. It's not an "equally" predatory act. Buyers can choose not to buy from a house flipper. They can choose to wait for SE to add more plots, or for the relinquish timer to tick down. People who need medicine don't have the choice of not buying or waiting for a patent to expire so they can buy a generic. Equating video game house flippers to a CEO jacking up the price of life saving medicine is a tasteless and unnecessary comparison. Some dude going into Wal-mart and buying up all the new Playstation 5s to resell on e-Bay at a huge price increase? Sure. But there was absolutely no reason to equate something as stupid as house flipping to something that is actually an incredibly evil thing to do. As I have explained in an earlier post farther up, the devil is in the moral and ethical details. In this, these acts are the same. The scale of severity is the only thing that is different. The tactics are the same, scoop everything up so you can charge what you wish and make an ridiculous profit because you have cornered the market and are allowed to exploit others because of it. Life saving medicine, playstation 5s, pretend-y fun time housing. The severity of impact on the individuals being exploited, and the product that is being snatched up to exploit others does not really factor in. Those factors do not make this sort of action any more or less ethically and morally wrong. As I explained in the post you replied to, it's tasteless and unnecessary for anything other than shock value to compare a serious matter to pretend-y fun time housing in any way. Even if it were about the moral and ethical details, it's still uncalled for. A house flipper isn't buying up a dozen plots with the knowledge that someone might die because they didn't get a small house in the Mist.

Dude, are you kidding me? How is flipping a pretend video game house for pretend internet money even remotely close to someone jacking up the price of AIDS medication??? In that it is that one is using the exact same thinking to justify and proceed with the action. One takes advantage of a flawed system to the detriment of others in a community. While knowing (i hope) that what they are doing is wrong, but proceeding anyway because profit. This would be why there was the qualifier of "about the same." But if you have an argument for how snatching up a house soley for the purpose of exploiting other player's want of housing for a massively inflated profit isn't using the same sort of douchebag logic as the above example, i'm open to hearing your argument.
