I would agree. My only problem is having to apply on a website to join. I mean, I can just tell them I have an RPC wiki for my character so that sort of kills the entire point of applying. Not to mention that I have to sign up for the website to apply and that clogs up my email. @_@

THIS. Ive been complaining about there not being a dueling system since day one of when I started playing. It would be SOOOOO much better for characters to settle RP fights like that. I mean, there is no real excuse behind not having a non-arena PvP. :I EDIT: AND IT SAVE'S TIME TOO... for other RP stuff and whatnot. Why sit there for thirty minutes typing when you can skewer a foe in 2 minutes time. ._.

I think the general idea you should try though is one of the scheduled tavern meets like this one right here. The hard part is integrating yourself in the RP community. Pretty easy stuff after that, though I shouldn't be one to talk because im not part of a group yet. Maybe I will join HoD if they would have me. @_@

Hrm... Most dedicated RPers on this server are dedicated to an RP FC, and due to their high recruitment standards and procedures, not many find their way into one. If you wanna RP full time then you will be hard pressed to get into one of the big RPFC's. :I

@Lia I think you're experience may be a little biased. Combat RP is subject to different player mindsets and scenario's. For example, when most people think of fighting in a game, it means to maim or violently kill. However, this can be different based on subjective scenarios. Players who are just RP training fighting are more likely to play fairly and honestly due to the fact that there are no repercussions in loosing and it is just training for them to "better" each other. While on the other hand, most RP fights are a result of usually conflicting personality's or ideals. People aren't going to want to get along. Some will want to kill each other. Its this imminent threat to their characters mortality that drive's them into a defensive corner. Really, the only good RP combat in my opinion PC vs NPC on a forum thread, because there the violence and gore as well as how big the fights are can be as detailed as possible. I think that people should look at it like this, if you know you're going to have a battle to the death with a person, avoid them. That way neither of you incite each other into a fight. That or just be the better character ICly. You don't have to settle EVERYTHING with violence. (*cough* though it does solve problems quickly. *cough*) In fact, a good way to turn the opposite of this in a positive it to try and find a common ground up to which both characters can relate, that way both characters gain a mutual respect for each other and nobody has to get stabbed/blasted with fire!

This is going to be a long winded post so just throwing that out there beforehand so that way you're not shocked by a wall... lol, who am I kidding, you're going to be shocked by it regardless. This is just a rough idea of what I have in mine for text fights but I think fights should be influenced by a series of factors similar to that of real life. Mental State: as a fighter with a clear mind can think and observe his opponents attacks. This allows them to plan ahead and try to avoid, block or parry the next attack. That and psychological state such as the fighter is angry or scarred. If the fighter is angry then he can be easily read. They might be stronger when angry but strong doesn't mean faster, and slow but strong attacks are easy to read and a scarred enemy is more likely to hesitate or refuse to attack, or even run if they are scarred enough. Combat Experience: ultimately this is a very big key factor into any fight. So you've slain one or two bandit groups and have trained/studied for a long time then that means you do hold practical skill in combat but full points go to people who have been in actual warzone, where the chaos of the battlefield can eat you alive if you're not careful or perceptive to you're surroundings. The few that survive war's can be considered to have extreme martial talent from that point. Bonus points go to if the character has been in more than one war and he lead's troops into battle. (Note that this point if you're character falls into the highest category does NOT make him/her a power play character. They aren't elite fighters that can summon meteors, or cleave rifts through time, or be H@x0rz. They are simply very strong within a believable level. They can still be felled in battle under the right conditions.) Skill Set, training value, techniques: this here is influenced by who much you're character has trained with a certain weapon or skill and what different kind of techniques or skills he knows. This is partially influenced by combat experience as people who survive on the battlefield have obtained heightened senses and perceptive skills in a sense. While it isn't much or very noticeable, these little differences can make the biggest impact in a fight. Combine that with experience and the character becomes that much stronger. Situational Awareness: While some fighters are focused on just staying alive, other things around you can happen while you're not paying attention, such as enemy reinforcements arriving, enemy's repositioning, flanking or retreating and so on. Character's who are more aware of their environment tend to react better to the changes of enemy positions and patterns but if they get to caught up in it then they will miss the minor or singular enemy's while instead focusing on the enemy's as a whole. This in turn can prove very fatal when caught off guard by a surprise attack form a single enemy. Terrain: knowing where you fight and where you should fight at are key to battles involving numbers. Sometimes, its better to hold the high grounds, or bottleneck an enemy group into a pass rendering their numbers useless. That and certain characters might be more fit in a fight over other characters because they know the terrain there or have fought on said or similar terrain before. Characters Physical condition: This is also terribly important as well. While it may be commonly overlooked since most fights start off with characters at full energy and physical condition, it is a different story for characters who have had to fight consecutive battle's. They will be wounded or drained of energy and their skills and situational awareness will suffer as a result and the enemy will have a advantage over them. This advantage can vary though pending on other variables such as how strong the opponent is versus how strong said character is at full condition. These things factor into a believable fight and should influence the outcome of most battle's, but the RPers involved in said fight should decide how things turn out beforehand. I personally prefer winning more than loosing ICly. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth otherwise but it doesn't bother me too terribly either way. Also, I noticed that nobody mentioned anything about PC versus NPC fights. :I For NPC versus PC fights, its better to just make it a forum RP event or something. Its much easier to put detail into those kind of fights and it allows better control over NPC's actions. This of course, only applies to NPC's that don't exist in the game, or the battle is not taking place in a playable area of the game. EDIT: I'm also not a big fan of the dice role mechanic, just to be clear. I prefer everything to be predetermined and the writers write to the said ending, with loose restrictions as to how they proceed during the fight.

Oh yeah, I forgot about personal plot's. Really then there are four types of plots that are part of a regular RPFC. FC RP plotline, Side plotlines initiated by a collective group of people in the FC, minor plotlines that usually take place disconnected or disjointed from the FC's plotline, and a personal RP, which is centered around the person it is about. Generally those are the type's of RP you should be aware of. @Faye Thanks for pointing that out. I appreciate it.
-
I would like to issue a high quality commission from you but im running on an extremely tight in-game budget. Is pricing negotiable? ._.
-
Personally, from experience, most RPFC's tend to have one central plot line that everyone follows then multiple sub plots started by others that connect with or are somewhat related to the RP. There are a few FC's that allow others outside of their FC to participate but most dont, but that doesn't mean they wont start outside events with you. My thought is this on the matter, apply to the one's that catch youre interest, otherwise, just hang somewhere else and individual RP without an essential plot line to follow. The main thing to establish here is that most people tend to want to join RP FC's because of the amount of players inside of them. Solo-RPing without a group can be very boring and difficult at times.

Probably but all we know about the lore concerning the Garleans conquest is that the conquered and destroyed the doman's homeland and they invaded and destroyed the Ala'mighans, or however you say there name. (doesnt have time to look at there name) Other than that, it just says the conquered stuff. :I

Yeah. Aeon was my first choice for an FC, baring Athereal Warriors. Dat Miqo'te restriction is inconvenient, but I understand why they would want to promote racial diversity. ._.

cancelled Harbingers' Weekly Tavern Night (Thursday nights, 9PM EST)
LiveVoltage replied to Faye's topic in Chronicled Events
When I first got an invitation to go this this event, I thought it was some sort of exclusive player character ball or something and I felt special, lol. If it was though, my character would probably spaz out without her armor and if she had to wear a dress. Her armor could technically count as a military uniform, which is a dress of sorts in term's, so she could get away with going to a ball dressed in full battle armor, lolol. Still, I have made time so I will be going to this tommorow. -
Not that I know of but if you want to be proactive in you search then you could try wandering from player FC house to player FC house in all the districts to check just in case. From what I know though, there are a few somewhere in Mist or Goblet player districts. Hope that helps!

Hey, sorry for the late reply, and welcome! So basically, what the best thing to do first is make a character wiki like previously stated above and you may make it in whatever format you wish. I personally copy and pasted my character wiki format from another guy, but that's a separate story. Secondly, its good to establish a wiki as it will serve as a general information base for everything related to you're character, such as rumors, personal preference's, relationships with different groups and people, and so on. When you're character sheet is up, feel free to ask for us to review it if you want. We don't mind reading.

Hello and welcome to the RPC! C: First and foremost, I find Reima to be a character that would blend well with mine so if you ever want to meet up IC when im not busy then we can RP and I can add a new entry in my wiki of people Inessa knows. As for Real-Time RP, as I have taken to calling it, is intimidating at first but isn't horribly difficult if you're a fast typer. Other than that, you will do just fine.
-
Elsa IS an interesting character, but I don't think she would get along with my character. ._. Other than that, the adventurers guild's are common tavern meet places and always good to start an RP or two. You could also join an FC that is centered around RP but most have pretty high standards and ridiculous recruitment guidelines and standards. A few even bar Miqo'te from joining, mainly because they are the largest populated race on almost every server. Still, welcome to the RPC! Also, you may want to make a character wiki, that way you can update and keep track of everything about you're character and who she interacts with as well as other things.

NOTE: The Zodiac Bearers is a dualistic FC/Linkshell that recruits people regardless of if they are apart of the FC or not. Note though that even if you join the RP but you're not part of the FC, you will not have any rank progression amongst the ranks of our order and you will remain a simple low rank soldier. We are also still trying to obtain an FC house. Donations are very welcome, regardless if it's gil or mat's. As of late, many Roleplay FC's and Linkshell's strive for adventure or monster hunting or some such content. Very standard in my opinion, which is why I devised a new roleplay, one which incorporates story with Metagame content and vice verse. The Zodiac Bearers are a special Sub-Division of the main Twin Adder army, tasked with claiming the Carteneau Flats from both of the other city state's. The Division leadership is made up of mostly veteran soldiers and high ranking Twin Adder officer's but due to their unheard of forming and barely any accomplishments under their belt, many have not taken notice of them. However, the high ranking officer's that swell their ranks is sure to attract new potential members who transfer over from the main army. The Division however, does not have any form of income from the Main Twin Adder army and as a result, members of the said division will be tasked in hunting down vicious monsters or obtaining natural resources to fund the Divisions effort's to build a base of operations and a solid combat division for which they can advance and claim the Carteneau Flats under the banner of the Twin Adder. It is not unheard of for people to die during these battle's, despite the fact that violence is not required to win victorys here and it is especially not uncommon for people to be wounded during battle. Know that if you join, you will be risking both life and limb to advance the causes of the Twin Adder. (Note that standard RP death rules are applied here. Characters may not die without leave from the person the character is owned by, however, wound's may be obtained during warzone battle. Outside of that, standard permission rules apply to Character versus character fight scenes.) That is not the only reason to fight though, many of the people who are part of the division fight for one reason or another. Some fight for their own selfish gain, others battle for glory and others fight to end the fighting and create peace. There are many different people here with different ideology's. This though as a result has lead to a division amongst the leadership, with troops close to them taking side's amongst different officer's as they align either by ideal's or by their personal bonds of Camaraderie of friendship. On top, it looks as if nothing is going on but underneath it all if one big political battle for status and rank in the Twin Adder. They will still come together to fight when duty calls though so they at least share a common cause.

Back from hiatus - looking for new contacts!
LiveVoltage replied to Arelian Solin's topic in Chronicled Connections
I would be interested in RPing. Since I finally got my character wiki established, ive been looking for people for Inessa to befriend. (and or possibly violently maim. >_>) Just refer to the Link in my signature and PM me if youre interested. -
Oh, ok, thanks. I feel like an idiot for using NEET instead of Hikimori. @_@ My point still stands at any relevant rate.
-
You're not bursting any bubbles, but my scope of view and knowledge of what you refer too is different from youre's. As I have previously mentioned, I used to RP forum alot before coming to FFXIV and oh boy, there were a whole lot of NEET's that RPed wherever I went. I know that there are social RPers out there, but to my experience, the majority are on the internet as NEET's. Now that we have clarified that, I would digress as to avoid any further arguments.
-
@FrelanceWIzard Of course I know that there are people who are not NEET's but still RP and have a social life. I was referring to the majority of people who RP as a generalization as any single person who RP's spends a large amount on the internet during the process of it. I personally don't mind being social on the internet and chatting with other people over an internet communication program, such as team speak or Voice talk or whatever. I think it has to do with anonymity. NEET's have no problem chatting up web boards or with people they don't know but shy away from real life visitation or actually having to communicate with people they know in real life on the web. EDIT: Generally though, NEET's would be considered social recluses who spend a majority of the time over the internet. They also likely always fall into the MMO or Gaming community so there is that as well. Really though from a Psychological standpoint, being a NEET is understandable though as its a way of thinking and coping with the real world. Granted its not the healthiest of choices nor is it looked upon in a positive light, but I digress. There is just alot of different psychological and social influences and subjects that come into play here, as RP is very complex as you assume the role of someone who isn't you, throwing away you're own identity to give life to the one you're role-playing without you're real self influencing the actions of the said character and the said characters don't have an influence on you in real life, a complicated and trying task if one ever needs to say so but that goes without saying.
-
I would actually like to raise a point about that though. Most RPers on average, are extremely young, mostly in their mid-late teens. Possibly early adulthood, which is 19-23 years old. And im sorry ahead of time if this next part is biased but its truth not only on the internet but in real life as well. Most people who RP in the majority are people who have withdrawn from society and have become NEET's. (correct me if I spelled that wrong) A NEET is a term in Japan that is used to refer to someone who has withdrawn from almost all if any social interaction and have taken up effective residence on the internet and NEET's can also likely to be big time Otaku's of some sort or another and NEET's are the people who most common group of Role Players out of all the others. I personally am a NEET myself , since I dont really talk to anyone IRL save for my family and like two other friends and many of my sisters friends, whom are all women I hold healthy platonic relationships with. I think the general idea is that if an aggressive romance RPer can realize the difference between IC and OOC interactions and just changes the way they think of feel about something and get a grip on their emotional urges OOC then they can get over the lack of a relationship IRL and drastically improve their ability as a whole, but most tend to learn this the hard way like I did, though I wasnt an aggressive romance RPer. I was a powerplayer. Really, its just being more honest to one's self. The more you can distinguish between youre feelings OOC and the characters feelings IC then the more drastically all RP interaction can improve.
-
Ah, I am really, really late to this thread so what can I say here that hasn't already been said but im not angst-ing on. Most of my RP experiences come from forums, and I had to learn the hard way at one point that powerplaying and forcing stuff on other players or fellow RPers is generally not cool. With that being said, does anybody here really bother to ask how much experience the other person has at role playing? I mean, you can often find these things out easily by checking things, such as if they has a good wiki or something of their character, or you carefully examine their typing for spelling and grammar. Granted that master role players do make mistakes in typing just like all other RPers, but consistent typing mistakes signals that they are probably fairly new to RP so if they are acting weird or erratic, its a good idea just to talk to them in OOC. Ask them basic questions such as how long they have been RPing or do they have a character wiki. Asking these simple things, just communicating OOCly goes to so much length to clear tension and misunderstandings. Just taking the time to explain to them goes a long way and shows that youre not wanting to shut them out of RPing with you, you just want a standard, totally platonic relationship and if they dont agree with you then part with them, be it IC or OOC. If you cant reason with them then its best to just ignore. As for the topic of Sexual encounter RP's, they are extremely easy and conventional things to RP and relationships are the easiest thing too talk about. I wish the creators of FFXIV would just sit down for two months and write us a damned book of lore so that way we can do stuff other than talk about sex in a tavern but until then, thats all thats ever going to be talked about in a tavern is sex, because a tavern is a bar and people go to bars to get drunk with their friends or bed men/women. It goes without saying that if people are romance RPing with you in a tavern then its because of the environmental factors and the fact that you yourself are there. Its not just one party's fault but both, one for enabling the enviorment and the other for initiating the advances. Now im not saying you are at fault, if you reject the advances of another player but they wont stop then you have a right to be angry and blacklist them or whatever, im just making this fair by pointing out both sides of the picture. I personally have NEVER, EVER, EVER, even under the pain of my own distraught mortality, ever attempt a romance or accept one which is too aggressive. Relationships form naturally in two ways: the first is through time and commitment to seeing both characters form a bond with each other, the other happens spontaneously and can turn out great but most of the time does not. I love talking about shipping characters OOCly. Its fun. What person in their right mind wouldn't think about it to at least some extent, but when people force the ships is where the line is drawn. Ships are only cool and funny when everyone doesn't take it seriously and laughs about it but when someone gets serious then everyone needs to drop that hot mess because it can turn ugly quickly when someone brings a ship and forces it in OOC. This next part I admit at my own peril but as an example IRL, im extremely platonic with relationships of the other gender. I dont much care for sex, I dont care about being in a relationship. I enjoy platonic relationships because nothing changes. If people go beyond the stage of being platonic then they risk upsetting the entire fundamental boundary as to which that friendship exists. Potentially getting in a relationship IRL and in a game can completely destroy if not outright alienate players from each other as well as in real life between people. Romance both in-game and IRL, despite its popularity and how easy it is to talk about this stuff, is extremely hot and destructive by its very nature and tears people apart. I think its just our primal instincts or thousands of years worth of genetic coding running though our blood, dictating not only what we think and say, but what we want to do or the way we think and do things. I hope this is constructive enough of a post to talk about. I spent forty minutes typing it and ten minutes trying to spell it at 2:30 am in the morning. ._.

Its ok. i was just curios as to what the reason was! How many slots do you have though? For future reference and stuff.
-
This is just out of curiosity, but is the no Miqo'te and no North American application acceptance policy's still up? I mean, I can understand the no Miqo'te player thing because it's to enable diversity to the RP but why limit North American player's? I mean, I don't see the reason why more cant join regardless of the NA/UK ratio because alot of us in America, including me, have day jobs or college. I tend to get out at 2:50 pm every day and start playing at 3:00pm (US & Canada central time) and alot of UK players are on during then since it like evening or late evening over in Europe. So despite how the policy might being leaning towards stabilization for the players, its baring us NA players from being able to join, despite us getting on during EU/UK prime time. I'm not trying to be rude towards you're policy's, I just wanted to point a little something out.
