Transitioning from Reactive to Active RP
LiveVoltage replied to Whittledown's topic in RP Discussion
I would agree, but sadly not. It's not fun if the bad guys don't win every now and then. It makes them look weak and insignificant. Big bads are Big Bads for a reason, so they deserve to win some because their position as a big bad demands it, otherwise its just bad RP. Just remember, nobody likes a Paladin who always wins nor a villain who always looses. Its really give and take for the whole thing and striking a balance between win's and defeat's is what make's RP fun because you never know what will happen. -
I would think that under some circumstances such as the Draken mail, yes, it would be difficult why a character wears it ICly but I highly doubt people will know the character is wearing a suit of Astrum Mail, which is Allagan armor of a sort, so I think there are exceptions to certain armors and can be passed off as one thing or another, such as standard or armor tailored specifically for said character.
-
I can come along as a spare Melee DPS if you need one, though I will need an explanation of why we are running CT ICly, unless this is a random OOC event, then nevermind and I can role as backup/support in case you need a spare.

Most RP is done in the Thanalan and La Noscea, for reasons being they are far more interesting locations to RP at. Try checking there, mostly at taverns and you will find RP definitely.

Transitioning from Reactive to Active RP
LiveVoltage replied to Whittledown's topic in RP Discussion
Don't take my advice or opinion very highly on the matter cause im nowhere near the amount of RP skill you have, but I find that RP's can fall into three different story line's. Personal/Player Character plotline's These are plot lines that the PC, you in other words, drive. You are the main character of it because its all about you're character. The best way to optimize a personal RP is to find and establish well the past of the character as well as NPC's and PC's that have affected said past and use them to drive the plot forward. The most effective method Ive seen is conflict driven personal plot's, as in a big bad or group of big bads have appeared and the main character has to decide what to do and if he will fight them alone, with friends, with an organization or not at all. Group Driven Plotlines Similar to personal RP's but a group of characters will be considered main characters, with a larger amount of reactive characters on the side. Generally, I haven't seen many examples of these so I will go with what I have. These tend to be done best when the main characters are already established and acquainted with each other. They will drive the main plot forward based on their experience and adventures and others who join later or those who are not main will almost always be a reactive character, unless they are a wolf in sheep's clothing or the big bad, then they will become a main character by default, or a antagonist character who drives the plot forward with evil shenanigans. Minor Plots These plots in comparison to Group and single person driven plots are different in terms of both mechanics and dynamics of the whole thing. They can be considered the comedic, random and light/soft hearted moments of any RP but are often very temporary or are something that is done on the side and may be picked up again at random interval points in the main or singular plots. In this type of plot, most of the interactions are very friendly and comedic by nature and that everyone here serves the role of both the active and reactive character. The plot isnt so much serious story driven, but intended to take stress off the serious nature of the other RP's in general. These tend to be popular by nature but become stagnant and boring if over done. I hope this helps. -
Well I dont know what else to offer aside from whats listed, but before doing random walk-up RP, you should talk it out with the person you want to RP with OOCly and establish who youre character is before starting. Another big golden rule that some people forget, communication because being responsive and communicative in general goes a long way to solving OOC issues and preventing IC ones from developing into OOC ones.

TOO LATE. */pets Aldotsk* Cant wait to get home so I can download the 2.35 patch. Any new story content guys?

I wonder if they ever met Phalanx before the calamity. @_@ Would be interesting RP to see a bit of backstory for Phalanx as to why he left Ishgard and the Dragon Knights as even Inessa doesn't know. Would certainly be an interesting angle. Eva's father was hardly a particularly agreeable individual and wound up essentially just walking away from the knighthood shortly after she was born for reasons that are intentionally left unclear (speculation ranging from his heart not being in it after his wife left all the way to rumors of him being in league with Dravanians). I have a timeline written up [albeit on another computer since I'm at work now] and would be glad to compare notes and see where perhaps they may have some sort of a link there. That sounds awesome. Give me a PM when you're home and we can talk about stuff.

"Better." Nicolas stated. "I know where all her spot's are that she frequents in Limsa Lominsa and La Noscea in general. In fact, she told me about you under extreme trust, description and everything. I didn't know who you were before Inessa told me about you." Nicolas reaches into his crimson coats pocket and pulls out a large folded piece of paper and extends it as an offering towards kink. "On this map are a location of safe havens Inessa frequent's whenever she travels to a different area in Limsa. I wouldn't dare to betray Inessa's trust about you so will you trust me, after all, im putting myself in more heat then Inessa aiding her." Nicolas was nervous talking to this woman. He spoke clearly but it was clear that he was slightly shaking from this interaction. Nicolas wasn't good with people save Inessa but that was a unique relationship between the two of them that allowed them to speak to each other freely.

((This isnt so much of a log but more of a comedy skit I did with my FC people ICly. Enjoy)) *Inessa is dressed up and infiltrating the Malestrom HQ on frontline's and a Malestrom officer comes up to talk to her.* Malestrom Officer: Hey, so what are you doing here? Inessa Hara: Me? Im just doing routine patrol's. Malestrom Officer: Oh, Okay then- WAIT A MINUTE. Inessa Hara: Huh? Malestrom Officer: WERE IS YOU'RE BAD PIRATE ACCENT. EVERYONE HERE IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A BAD PIRATE ACCENT. Inessa Hara: Uuuuuuhhhhhh... Malestrom Officer: WHAT IS YOU"RE DEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL?!?! ((I lol'ed so hard at this.))

Your Character's Weapons/Artifacts and How They Acquired Them
LiveVoltage replied to Dat Oni's topic in Character Workshop
Inessa's weapon was a Halberd inherited from her master and mentor Phalanx. It is very unique, crafted by Ishgardian blacksmiths and has held up well despite continuous use for five years. -
Obviously, there has to be at least one adult that you;re character was influenced by when they were young, either of the relationship be positive or negative. The intention of this thread is to generally show a basis as to how you're character is who he or she is based on their interactions with their mentors or adult figure's. I will go first. For Inessa, her mentor and father figure was a Elezen man who hailed from Coerthas named Phalanx. An Ex-Ishgardian Dragon knight who taught Inessa the art of the Dragoon, honor, her sense of justice, loyalty and contributed the most to her overall character development. He was a die-hard white knight, who believed that a death fighting for those who are being preyed upon by villains was a worthy one as it was a symbol of undying justice and by being felled, others would rise up and take the cause of justice with them. A very noble person, with noble intention's and following his creed into death. He perished during the battle of Carteneau when the lesser moon fell and his body was never retrieved, believed to be burnt to ash when Bahamut layed waste to Eorzea. There are people who question if he really died since no corpse was found but his lack of appearance after the battle led people to believe he perished.

Calling all techies (or, "I need a new computer.")
LiveVoltage replied to Ackermans's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Since this is about tech, might as well throw this in here. Ive been thinking of upgrading to a video card instead of using my on-board built-in graphics processor which is built into the motherboard. My built in motherboard video processing unit can handle FFXIV on normal setting with slightly beefed up stats just fine but I have been thinking about maxing out what its graphically capable of doing and I was wondering what video card would you recommend for that and wont overcharge me a price like something Invidia would sell. Also, the biggest thing that MMO's typically need are a good (Preferably multiple) Large Hard Drives or Solid State Drives, Powerful Internet connectivity (while this isnt a requirement, gameplay lag will never occur with a good net connection.) A good video card and a good processor along with a sizable amount of system ram. -
Yeah, there is no correct or recommended formats for wiki's. its best to use what you like.

A military man, Hyur male, with short brown hair, Light blue eye's and somewhat pale skin, dressed in Maelstrom red approaches kink who appears to be looking for something. The man wasnt too tall. Barely looked as if he was five foot, but he was quite young and was somewhat fair skinned. "Excuse me miss, you are kink correct?" The young man inquired. "Make no mistake, I am not 'ere to harass you or anythin', but a certain cat by the name o' Inessa told me to introduce myself to you. I am Nicolas, Inessa's insider in Limsa Lominsa military and her policin force and she asked me to make myself available to you and point you to where she might be should you need to seek her out."

Ooooooh, a Veteran Dungeon master. @_@ Ill be sure to send you a PM if I decide to do a long, drawn out RP forum questline.

Well there isn't really a whole lot you can do for NA players. Thats the downside of timezones, we all share the same server but we are all on different times of the day, which can kill a portion of the RP group that is too weak to sustain itself. An idea would be to just split the two groups and let them have their own RP plot's and whatnot but I digress... Just an idea.

Inessa wake's up in the early morning inside of one of the inn room's at the Drowning Wench, wrapped around in her bedsheets, which were quite strewn and messy. Inessa has always been a rough sleeper and tended to make a mess of thing's in her sleep, but on a smaller scale then what she could do in her awake hour's. She pick's herself up out of the bed, she is armorless, wearing just simple cloth garb's. She stretches and let's out a long winded sigh, dreading the fact she had to get up in the morning's. Immediately, she strip's and dawn's her battle garment's, but dawn's her chainmail over that which she then put another garb over the chainmail to hide the fact she wore chainmail under plate armor, then proceeded to put on her armor plate's. She was quite heavily armored, but this was expected as she was not only hunted by criminal's but law enforcement official's as well. Being overly cautious has served her well in survival of combat. Inessa then grabbed her Halberd, which she kept next to the bed in the event she had to fight off attacker's and set out to middle La Noscea to begin her daily morning training as she always did most day's.

Thats ALOT of backups. @_@ Right, but out of the sake of paranoia, what if those 15,16,however many backups fail. What then? I joke though. Thanks for saying something about that.

A quick question FreeWizard: Should we take precautions and back up our own content like our character wiki format and save it over to a random basic text document so that way our wiki's are safe in the event of an accident?

Inessa had nothing left to say, she just tilted her head back as she continued to drink her wine. She enjoyed watching fight's. It gave her a chance to observe Lominsa fighting styles and she was sure to watch from one of the distant tables, while avoiding any of the confrontation or the guards. They wouldn't likely bother her so long as Inessa minded her own buisness and didn't say anything. "Just a little longer master. The criminals will pay with their lives or their blood..." Inessa mumbled to herself as she savored the wine she kept taking sips of every so often. Inessa wasnt looking to get drunk on wine, merely to enjoy the taste of it.

It hit Inessa's nerve that Nero thought she couldnt handle several dozen pirates by herself. She had and still serve's as a vanguard commander for the Twin Adder. Her specialization was forward combat, and the notion that she could be beaten at her own game was laughable to her, seeing that she fought the Garleans during the battle of Castrum Meredianum, but she wasnt reckless and would have a plan either way. Then again, she was only one person, and this itself would take wind out of her argument, so Inessa decided to bluff Nero's comment. "You honestly think I work alone. I have allies, and those allies did lead me to here." Inessa then turns to Kink. "But I digress... I see what you're trying to do though, then consider the challenge you have given me accepted. I will need more information on my target... or not. I dont care either way. He is a dead man." Inessa said in a cocky attitude, but it comes from confidence in her own power that she thinks she can win her fights. "Either way, I will prove to be more capable then this man you seem to be interested in." Inessa said in a confident tone and a determined look in her eye's, whilst glaring at Nero.
-
"And I know who you are good sir." Inessa responds to Nero. "Be civil why dont you, you're making a scene." Inessa turns back to Kink, with a serious yet unwavering determination in which she would attempt to succeed with her proposal. "I will say this for it is in you're best interest to not associate with this fellow. He is no better then the trouble's you seem to be facing with the people I am after. Now, what I seek..." Inessa takes a swig out of the wine bottle before putting her mask back on for safety reasons. "...Is for you to tell me where all the criminal overlords in Limsa are at the moment. Every pirate captain and criminal overlord, I shall put to the blade and cleanse Limsa of crime and make it a safer place for everyone who lives here, and I will compensate you appropriately for the information as well." Inessa extends her bottle of wine to kink. "Would you like some m'lady?" Inessa's aggressive approach seemed to have payed off. Kink wasnt denying her aggressive advance and stuff she was saying. Now all Inessa had to do was continue her streak and she would have the information on these criminals and there heads on pikes in a matter of weeks if not days.
-
"Shut it. I wasn't talking to you." Inessa snaps back at the Hyur male. "You're bravado does you no good in you're pitiful attempt at intimidation." Inessa was not keen on playing nice with a crime lord put she compromised and played nice for the sake of the information she needed, as causing a scene here would sacrifice her only chance at finding Limsa's criminal overlords. Inessa turns back to the Miqo'te lady. "I am sorry if I seem intrusive m'lady, but I seek information and at no expense to you. If you would here me out im sure we could understand each other. I know who you are, kink. Not very difficult to know who said person is or where he or she is if you cross-reference the information between multiple bartenders and criminal informants, who the criminals and a few bartenders are dead. But enough, allow me to introduce myself." Inessa take's off her mask, revealing her identity in good trust to the people before her. The crowd of people and the noise would easily cover her while she showed herself. "I am Inessa Hara. I am sure you know who I am, correct?"
