  1. I can see the refrence in this actually. Aether (in FFXIV) and Mediclorians (or however its spelled in star wars) are basically part of the fundamental building blocks of not only all living things but also a vital part of living beings. By FFXIV standards though, Aether vary's between person to person. Some people are born with large natural inner reserves of Aether, allowing them to become things like mage's and wizard's while those born with a pitiful level of Aether often become warriors and swordsmen if not tradesman. Even then though, you would still need to go through 'hell training' in order to increase you're natural reserves. It's kinda like bodybuilding. You wont get strong from going to the gym once a month when you should go once a week. You get strong because you excersize you're Aether muscles every day. This translates over into the level system where as you level up and youre natural Aether reserves increase. So really, there are already plenty of limit's to Aether in game. It is not a handwave possible solution (unless everyone is okay with it) because even if you are born with a decent amount, you still need to train and excersize youre aether muscles to increase youre reserves. The same goes for melee fighting characters like warrior, monk and Dragoon, where you will probably have to go through 'hell training' to get very powerful. And even then, if you tried to aim to be the strongest you can be, it would take forever from a realism standpoint to become so intensely powerful.
  2. Hrm. . . I dont see a problem discussing RP events and thing's that happen OOCly with others. The problem though is when people use it to metagame with it, but even then seasoned RPers tend to not make the metagame mistake unless it's just an elaborate trolling joke. As for Garlean RPers, it really depends on what side of the fence you are in. If you are pro-Garlean Empire and support the conquest of Eorzea then the Garlemald FC would be a good group to aim for. If you are actually a Garlean who has fled from the Garlean land to escape the tyranny of the empire then generally you will find that the RP groups for Anti-Garlemald Garleans is generally scattered and unceteralized. Another reason they could not be responding could be a number of things, such as chat box flooding, ambient noise blocking out the ping message, being AFK, etc. Keep at it though. Someone will respond eventually.
  3. Guess it's time to end this 'war' with a theory that I could best create in my mind of how Dragoon's jump and how this translates over to combat using world lore. Firstly, I think there is one common concept that everyone is not seeing about Dragoon's and how they jump. They manipulate and charge their leg's with Aether, allowing them to burst forward at an immense speed. The challenge afterword's is the decent, which I would assume they would charge their leg's with Aether to soak the impact of the fall back to the ground. The first image shows how they would jump. The initial burst from the ground would send them flying through the sky due to their Aether charge leg's, allowing them to quickly fly up and stab any Dragon's flying way out of their lance's reach and for the fall back down, they would again charge their leg's but the charge would 'superman' their leg's, completely nulling and absorbing the impact of the fall. Of course, in more demanding situations for Dragoons where their foes are extremely mobile of fleet of foot and can evade their thrusts, they would require advanced acrobatic training. Using my theory of the Aether charged Dragoon leg jump thingy, if they were fighting in some sort of indoor installation or a small, closed and confined quarters, an expert Dragoon would keep their leg's charged the entire time, allowing them to ricochet off of surfaces granted them increased speed and more deadly thrust power. In the event they screw up their jump and they end up free falling or they mess up while trying to ricochet off of surfaces and end up tumbling, they would need the advanced acrobatic training to help them recover from a otherwise lethal screw up. In other word's, to be a Dragoon, you would need a good deal of Aether control to charge you're legs, the ability to move and perform acrobatics while in chainmail or plater armor. (the soul stone probably helps them with this as well as the Aether charging.) And a great amount of skill with a lance as often some of their acrobatic or airborn techniques would require them to have a great understanding of polearm's to an extent. With that said, in the upcoming upd8 Dragoon's are going to get a speed buff to help keep them on par with Ninja's. This in turn creates a new theory of more application's. Charging you're leg's with Aether to increase running agility while on the ground. They could probably also be really good at Tae Kwon Do if they had some kicking techniques as an Aether charged axe kick from a skilled Dragoon would probably decapitate someone, lol. Anyways, there is my theory. Hope you guy's enjoy picking at it, lol.
  4. Ive seen and heard of people killing each other at the grindstone. It's not common but it is there. >_> I mean, with killing, it should only really be considered murder if you deal the killing blow, such as stabbing someone in the heart or cutting their head off. Otherwise if you get youre chest slashed open and you're blood spurts everywhere, you will be most likely fine as long as a healer get's to you. I remember that last grindstone, I did nearly kill someone by stabbing them in their chest with a knife, basically cut the side of their chest open and cut their skull open a little. The fighter was fine afterwards, though a bit shaken mentally most likely. My point is that as long as you dont 'intend' or have a 'killing intent' about you when fighting someone, then you most likely wont get into trouble. That is a terribly off topic point though so now I will make a legitimate point regarding to the original purpose of the thread. Grindstone is a good way to get thing's going. As well as scheduled Tavern RP, but with some RPers (and me because this happened to me back when I started. I dont do it anymore.) Want to make the story center around themselves. While there is no issue with doing that, personal RP centered around a few people should never be forced on others who do not have an interest. With that said, playing the side character is always good too because then you get to RP with others and have deep and meaningful character and relationship development. That and when you run off and do personal RP, people are more likely to follow you if you invested time into their characters and they have invested into you. Name of the game is to give and receive in equal measure.
  5. *wonders what Chaos I walked into* >_> *walks right back out, lol.*
  6. Hrm. . . Generally, if you're missing event's then you probably need to find another RP FC that operates on whatever prime time you're on. With that said, if you're shy, there is not much anyone can really do about that. It all comes down to the player having the nerve to take the dive to be able to initiate RP with others. Ive had to do it before, it can be unnerving but it's a rewarding RP experience in the end.
  7. lol, I thought you had forgotten about me. Im going to be on for another forty minutes then its off to bed so you can catch me now if you want.
  8. And After Aaron killed his friend, Inessa went Grimdark and nearly killed several different people on multiple occasions, lol. But seriously, Inessa would see them as a killer regardless. Unless the death is justified by her own moral code, she will attempt to to turn the person in because her morale code dictates that the only just death is the death of criminals, murderers or people that get in her way when she attempts to serve justice by her own moral standards. (which would be an attempt to physically subdue the person in her way unless she was REALLY pissed, then heads will roll before its said and done.)
  9. So i decided to go ahead and post an upd8 a day early. Her ya guys go. It's not much really. With casting, I have decided that the cast will be almost exclusively Elezen and Hyur as to retain with Ishgard's general racial population. Names for the characters that people can play have not been created yet, however, I will give a very general and brief current list of main and side characters that people can play as. I will also include a rough draft of the entire play with all the scene's respective to each act. There will be an opening act, followed by three acts where most of the story will take place and the end act which will be the end of the play. There will be intermissions so people can run off and take short breaks. (Note that while I am trying everything I can to make this not last hours, it is proving a monumental task to make it shorter.) If anybody wants to fill in the role of any specific character in the casting list, contact me and ill look into it. Note that some spots will be reserved for people that I generally have in mind I think are fit and perfect for the role.
  10. Lol, dragoon will onne day be the BLM of Melee DPS. Monk still needs greesed light ing buff. While i dont mind NIN having more utility than lolgoon, they need their DPS nerfed big time. Otherwise, they outclass dragoon. Yay for no more positional requirments for dragoon.
  11. WHY HAS NOBODY SAID HOMESTUCK?!?!?! @_@ Homestuck If youre looking for something insanely long, completely original and breaks the fourth wall ALOT then this comic is awesome to sink time into, lol.
  12. @Titor For now, we are focusing on establishing scripts or story's to do for plays done by people in-house. We will however take suggestions but they are not guaranteed to be accepted by the group.
  13. Alot of RP from what I have noticed takes place usually in player housing wards or the city's or over the linkshells. If you're just looking for a RP hub to crash in for a few hours and chat up people, the quicksand is the best bet. Anything else I would recommend usually going to RP events or hanging around PC bar's and stuff.
  14. ((decides to take 15 minutes to write a post since homestuck doesnt update till 15 minutes from now.)) Thank you for such positive feedback everyone! Development has started to an extent. Right now, we have decided on the theme of the play and what it will be about. Spoilers down below for people who really want to know what we have decided roughly thus far. Updates for the development of this will come out once a week starting now so there should be an update every Tuesday night.
  15. As of recent developments, both of the Gran's have been slain in the line of battle. Now to figure out what we call this! lol.
  16. @Steel Wolf Script writers have not yet been decided so for now, assume I am the only one working on the scripts. As for outfits and props, props will most likely be handled by our veteran crafters and I will personally handle outfits since I can craft most of them since all my craft classes are nearly fifty. With that said, I already have some base bare bone story's ready to work on and put out and I will be presenting them to Arcadeus today. Really, this thread is to gauge interest to see who would want to watch/participate and even donate resources if they want too. I will most likely reuse props and outfits greatly as crafting can be time consuming and a pain to buy alot of the more rare mats and shards/crystals/clusters for the crafting. With that said, donations will not be advertised or asked for but you are always able to give us some.
  17. This thread is to just get a general idea of how many people are interested in this idea that me as well as people in Arcadeus (with the permission of Aldtosk of course) have started working on. Aldtosk has been, for a while, wanting to do an event around Christmas so I presented to her the idea of having a theater play. This of course originates from a idea that has been in the works for a very long time. Essentially, we would get together every month or two and hold a theater play (with actors, costumes, music, scene props and even scripts). These plays will be retelling of historic events from all around Eorzea or generally just written in-house fantasy drama of things such a rivalry, love, war, brotherhood and genuine themes often associated with old theater. We will have an in-house casting but we will also cast people from outside of the FC and give them characters and roles they will play. All props and equipment will be made in-house as well at no expense to the actors or anyone. The stage itself will be downstairs, where the arena from the grindstone world cup tourney that Anelia hosted. It will, of course, be redesigned to fit a more theater based theme. If I can get a good outside following for this, I can start soon and we can have our first play right before or after Christmas. The play of course will be winter themed. So that's it. If you feel like you or anyone really would be interested in participating or watching this than let me know in-game or here. Thank you for taking time to read this. <3
  18. Hi Aaron. Now then, so what you're saying is that Aaron has bad control over using magic with an ice affinity. Not that he has a massive reserve hiding in him or something but he does not have good control over wielding it? If that is so then I would likely look to the Thamaturges in Ul'dah. They use ice affinity magic and they can guide him or provide insight into the nature of his ability and how to control it.
  19. Do not know if this is still common practice in Ul'dah, but way far back in the Eorzean timeline, its hinted that the slave trade and especially the sex slave trade was quite a popular and prominent trade in Ul'dah and Limsa to an extent. Modern or current day Eorzea seems to have something akin to indentured servants now instead of slaves, though its not a solid theory or idea considering the Flame General himself was a slave gladiator fighting in the Blood Sands at one time and won his freedom when he was much younger.
  20. I would have to concur with the others. Individual skill and skillset optimization is only 1/4th of the fight. The real challenge is execution and getting a team that knows what they are doing. COIL is really a team effort and group wide skill check.
  21. Why dont you try Black Mage, all that basically is is buff>spam fire>element change to ice>spam ice>rinse and repeat, and you pretty much do what every BLM's centeral play style is. Although taking BLM into endgame requires you to get creative and savy with the BLM skillset, but the concept and general gameplay behind it is pretty easy. EDIT: Also, BLM doesnt really require moving during fights or rotating or being in specific places unless the fight needs you to position in a certain place so its mostly spamming.
  22. SCOB T6-8 is so easy now, lol. I cleared T6 the first day of 2.4.1 patch on my first try and without knowing how to do the fight, lol. I think they have not nerfed T9 in some way yet save Echo buff because they are still looking into what they can nerf. That or they will just keep everything as is but give echo buff to help survive and push phases. IDK. Kinda dont want them to nerf T9 though, even though I have never played or attempted it yet.
  23. The new ironworks gear is canonically basically reverse engineered allagan tech with garlean tech concepts in mind to help amplify the strength of the armor, thus why Ironworks gear is so rare and difficult to mass produce and obtain but stronger than the High Allagan Gear is SCOB. I kinda wanna think of the ironworks gear as power armor of a sort, except without Regen shields or advanced high tech AI's.
  24. *points to the fact that Arcadeus is a rather low population FC but heavily built up with a large FC house and ample resource.* >_> Seriously though, we have around 20 members but we we only have 11 or so that actively RP. If you want, you can send Anelia a /tell in-game or me a tell in game as i am about to log on and we can talk about the details if youre interested.
  25. From an endgame and min/max standpoint though, Relic weapons are THE most powerful items in the game if built right in the later stages of the relic. I mean, you can still do endgame with non-relic weapons and stuff but for people who tend to want to min/max their endgame effective item wise, a Relic is the most optimum choice, aside from the fact they are rather time consuming to actually pull through. While there are many offshoot weapons that are easier to get in endgame than relics, overtime though, relics will prove to be the most potent. IDK though. Time will tell if we get a buildup of the current relics we get.
