  1. Understandable. Its just alot of RPers that I have meet seem to lean over to the killing aspect more than the subduing idea, granted their is one group of people that I RP with, and they say that subduing is a cannon thing for the majority of them.
  2. They use the terms for beating an enemy or being beaten by an enemy as kills or deaths. Therefore, there is the argument that the game mechanics itself say that killing and stuff goes on out on the flat's. Just an interesting fact to point out.
  3. This is generally a question I haven't seen asked by anyone yet so here it goes. Out of all the people I have RPed with so far on Balmung, people tend to have two views on the matters regarding the battle's on the carteneau Flats. 1: They follow what the game tells them and that it is simply is fighters subduing each other in combat... or 2: Killing between the Three Grand company on the flat's is a thing but they do not call it an outright war and that only the foreign fighters divisions of each respective company are put out there to fight. I think its a very interesting concept to explore as to find where everyone stands on this.
  4. This is relevant as I made a long tumblr post about it a while back. *scurry's off back into the AFKdom*
  5. Hey, remember me from the event on Saturday? If you want help with a plot, I have an ongoing one right now that you could use to start you're FC with. It's kinda small and personal at the moment but the other group's that I have tried to introduce it to that I rp with it have rejected it, even though it has a really sound plot and theme. Just give me a PM in game when im on to discuss detail's.
  6. The OP has been updated... but yes. Aside from all the joke making and the pointing out of my personal grievances on the web, which I dont really mind because the grievances are relevant to the point otherwise I wouldn't bother making a thread, is that it's unfair to hate on someone just because of what they like in terms of RP. Mary Sue is a very loaded word for me, of that which I do not like.
  7. Fine, I guess, you guys do have a point.. but my point still stands. These are things we cant just ignore. We have to encourage people to be more open minded about different RP styles and groups.
  8. Im not changing anything because this is an important issue that need's to be addressed. If someone called you're character a mary sue, without even knowing how you RP or what you're RP history was for that matter, you would get mad too. If someone is going to get upset and then call my character a mary sue for the reasons above and refuse to RP, I have every right to call them on that. This is not me being angry or hostile, this is me bringing forward an important issue and it need's to be addressed on a large scale instead of being ignored because these assumptions or biased reasons need to be stopped.
  9. You accused them of verbally abusing you and calling your character a Mary Sue and then refusing to RP with you. You need to edit the name out. You're taking what I said out of context. They never verbally abused me. One guy called a Mary Sue, but I was still not well received by the rest of them just because I RPed as a combat character.
  10. I think people are getting the wrong message. I am not trashing *redacted*. I have complete and utter respect for their decision to not RP with me and I respect that. I just wanted to point out that I wasnt recieved very well by them cause I had a combat oriented character. There is nothing trashing about that. Also on another note, I make the distinction that RPer's who dont combat are just talk and character development RPers whereas combat RPers do combat but they also do the same stuff as listed in the combat RPer section.
  11. It might have been, but it's biased just to assume that just because someone combat RP's, they are a jerk. That should never be used as a defining aspect, ever, because that just show's how ignorant some people are to those who want to approach them for RP. Note that I did not want to combat RP with them. I wanted them to RP with me for interaction or story, but they got all upset just because I said I was a combat RPer. I may be repeating things but I digress.
  12. It was A. I mean, I left them to their devices on good terms, but they are the first group to outright reject me just for being a combat RPer.
  13. Now I know what most of you are typing as we speak, that a majority of people who combat RP do it unfairly, but thats not the point. I recently started a story arc centered around the linkshell I am in right now. As a result, I wanted the first chapter to include criminal's for story and RP purposes. Not to just beat up and fight as so I contacted a leader to one of the linshells of a criminal RP group located on the Balmung which shall remain unnamed. I was generally received well at first. We were having a good time but as soon as I mentioned that I RPed as a combat character, they suddenly turned viscous on me, called my character a Mary Sue (Which it isn't!) and refused to RP with me. Now I dont power play or combat RP all the time. I think it's bad RP just to combat RP for the sake of combat RP or to do it just because you want to be the best fighter. Fighting should have very deep meaning and I felt it to be a very painful stab when they still refused to help out with the story, even after I explained calmly and rationally how I was different from other RP fighters. So is it bad to be a combat RPer just because the bunch of them ruin it for the few of us who are good at it? I dont think so. I mean, yes, you should be careful to judge people who combat RP because they might just be like the rest, but if you give them time to explain how they would fight or rationalize the strength of their character very carefully, they could very well prove to be some of the good combat RPers on the server. Also, since unnamed bailed on being the criminal group that would participate in the arc, would anybody like to come in and help fill the hole? I will generally take anyone at this point, so long as we can work IC reasons and stuff out.
  14. Nobody can log in. The servers are down worldwide. The NA/EU world servers and Data centers are down. TIME TO GRAB YOU'RE PITCHFORKS AND TORCHES GUYS CAUSE WERE STARTING A RIOT, lol.
  15. I think the situation depends diffrently from player to player. Hardcore group raiding is for players who have an established friendship across many MMO's and work well together. Thats the only way they can optimize themselves for hardcore raiding. Casual raiding is the better suggestion for people who want to establish tie's with other player's and get into serious raiding together. Its a simple solution if you want to become a hardcore raider. Find players that want to get into hardcore raiding > group up and do causal raiding > overtime, it will progress into a possible friendship and into hardcore raiding if group permit's. High level raiding is all about patience. You will wipe, ALOT. I have attempted T5 for the past two weeks now and still haven't gotten a clear because of the ridiculous difficulty curb that it has, but I have gotten close, so the name of the game is patience and practice, because we are learning to play the gamer better, not clear it.
  16. OOC wise, I would have to say Inessa can pretty much do anything and everything, as she is the only character I work on and RP with. ICly, she is a semi-Dragoon, with mixed skills and incomplete training as a Dragoon, but has access to most of their basic techniques, such as Jump, Elusive Jump, etc. She also dabbles in swordsmanship (Gladiator) and has a minor skill set for cooking. I think it really depends on the type of character and what their role as a character is. For combat characters, its alot more of a challenge to not make them a battle sue, but generally, combat characters are powered up by nature. Story's center around conflict and both opponents need to be strong to attempt to trump the other. As for craft and land disciples, wasn't Cid (Character from the main story) like a master craftsman in all the disciple's of the hand classes? If so then it is certainly possible to have a character that is purely craft based, but they most likely sacrifice any ability to fight combat wised, and they probably don't have a social life, since they most likely have given every waking moment to their craft's.
  17. Hey, just to let Kage know, I started a T5-9 and EX primal COIL static yesterday and we already have 5 people (including me) one person who can run 2nd COIL, two that need to finish T5 for second COIL and two that need to be brought up to endgame raiding, or are just starting to get into it. Let me know if you're interested as we need more people to dedicate and fill spot's in and we run on the weekend's so time isn't an issue.
  18. Hrm... I am having a progression problem as well. I love RP alot, but I also love PvE progression alot. The problem with this though I think is the lack of players willing to take criticism for messing up, or blaming the healer or tank because "Lol, I died so I blame the more essential roles for failing.". If players could get over themselves and be willing to take criticism, we would see a marginally higher amount of endgame progression group. For example, I was part of a static for about a week before I got booted not very long ago. It wasn't because I was rude or unwilling to cooperate or anything jerky in general, it was because of other things. They wanted me to use teamspeak, but I couldn't due to the fact that my system acted up when I used team speak and I was bad at dodge heavy mechanics. They kindly asked me to leave and I did, but Ive been working on my dodging skills, what with me being a melee DPS as my main raid class, thats been quite hard. I'm getting off track, main point is that it's all about the right group and how well you communicate and get along with others. With that said, if ExKage wants to form a static, I wouldn't mind participating in it, that's if I can get through T5 though. I have managed to get up to phase 4 in that dang troll of a fight.
  19. I personally dont have a problem with special snowflake RP's when its done to forward character development or explain things. My issue with it is when people want to be a special snowflake all the time, thankfully though I have never seen that yet. Snowflake RP's though tend to give depth to characters if played right, which is why I wouldn't cross it off as evil controlling or whatever you want to call it, because it really isn't. If someone expresses a legitimate interest in another character about his past, or they just want to develop a relationship between the two of them, then its perfectly natural and okay.
  20. Hrm... well I would offer two idea's to the matter of NPC's. Forum RP seem;s to do the best job when it come's to NPC. It's easy and there is no relative confusion or mess involved, mainly because you have to imagine everything. The other idea is to only establish alt PC's for characters that have an important role in the plot. Thats the only reason why I would think of an NPC alt being allowed to exist.
  21. Ill go but Inessa stays in her armor, else she will act all wimpy. Inessa with armor=cool guy with sunglasses and explosions behind him. Inessa without armor=timid as all hell. Inessa literally cannot act ICly without her armor. On the other note, you do accept me then ill go as Dragoon.
  22. There is a slight issue here that these plots often blow up out of control. It's one thing for a villain to get away, or have a small victory. But Ul'dah is not going to get blown up. It's just not going to happen. Everyone knows it, the plot is still fun, but there is no other way to do such a high stakes plot besides internally knowing the heroes will win. I think you misread what I typed. Of course villains wont be able to blow up Ul'dal, but neither are they going to be blocked at every turn either. I meant it generally that the villain's should win some, if you want a more simple explanation. I never meant that they should kill 1000 people and be able to get away with it, totally blowing what I originally meant out of proportion.
  23. It doesn't have to be OOC though does it, I mean, it could be something like smash bro's, or soul caliber, where we all act in character but anything that happens ICly would be ommited as something that didn't happen Canonically as part of all our respective RP's.
