  1. well, I think there were a few roe in the beginning of the thread, but... yeah, it is really lacking in them of anybody wants more of this, the ship is sailing They went fishing in Raincatcher Gully the other day. Nothing was biting so she got bored and braided his hair (why didn't I get a picture of his hair braided? ugh) and he ended up burying his axe in a gigantoad. They brought the legs home to eat.
  2. I'm just gonna quietly drop my otp here...
  3. Yes, this helps a lot!! This is the sort of information I hoped was out there somewhere, but my and my friend's lore knowledge still has a lot of holes. Something to either suggest there are more inscribed sets out there, or confirm for sure there was only one set, in which case we would have had to find an alternative or keep it strictly in the FC. Autumn War, huh? Something else to read up on! There is also still the matter of explaining how exactly he finds it, but this bit of knowledge opens up a lot of possibilities. The other suggestions are greatly appreciated too. thanks, all!
  4. I think my question was misunderstood-- I'm not talking about wearing the armor for aesthetic reasons. For those unfamiliar with the warrior's Inner Beast and stuff, the warrior armor isn't just a badass looking set of armor, it actually affects the person wearing it, mentally- it's kind of cursed. It gives the wearer incredible physical power but the wearer is at risk to losing themselves to bloodlust and becoming mindless killing machines if they don't have the willpower to resist. We want to use it for character development/a story arc. If he just wanted to wear it for looks I wouldn't have even made a thread because we could just explain it as a museum-quality replica or something.
  5. The Lore Panel at Fanfest certainly implied there are other ways to learn white magic, and other groups are also trying to bring it back. Your character is unique in that it's the only person learning white magic in that specific way. The "true" way, I guess, there is only one, and that is the player character. But there are other ways. Who? How? We don't know that yet, unfortunately.
  6. I'm posting this on behalf of a friend who recently got his Warrior to level 50 and he is absolutely in love with the story behind the artifact armor. He would like his character to acquire it IC, and we both think the struggle to properly use the armor and maintain control would be an interesting arc for his character and a great conflict between him and those close to him. The problem, of course, is that as far as either of us know, it's the only set ever to exist, and while Curious Gorge was considering making duplicates he evidently decides he doesn't want it after all and leaves it with you in the end? (I haven't seen the dialogue of the final quest but this is how it was described to me) So it would be, uh... really special for his character to have the armor. So what would the protocol for this be? Is there a loophole we've missed? Are there similar sets of armor in the lore we could utilize to the same effect? Also, we generally only RP with our Free Company and have yet to attend any events or do any "public" RP in bars or whatever, so I've suggested to just go with it if it would be okay with our other FC members, since they're the only people whose RP would be affected by this decision, but it makes the lore hound in both of us cringe a little. Thoughts?
  7. So it just depends on whether or not they're defined as proper nouns, then? That makes sense. Not all games/series define the names of their races as proper nouns, I guess is the thing? The different races/ethnicities/etc of humans are proper nouns (or at least their proper terms are, but not general terms like black or white), but the word human itself is not, was the argument (edit: well that's not the word for it, I'm not trying to argue it's correct not to capitalize FFXIV's races) observation I was making. But it all does come down to the individual source lore, I guess.
  8. I was going to post this in RP discussion, but I felt like it was too general since it also happens in practically any game with non-human "races" (or rather, races called anything but "human", I guess, more on the air quotes later) and sort of applies to writing fantasy in general How do people feel about capitalizing the word for a race mid-sentence? For instance, most FFXIV wikis capitalize the names of the races mid-sentence (I don't remember if that's how it's written ingame or not). But my boyfriend sitting behind just pointed out that he doesn't normally see "elves" or "dwarves" capitalized in stories with vanilla elves and dwarves. For another example, the GW2 wiki doesn't capitalize the names of races mid-sentence ("The charr are..."). However, within GW2's community I see lots of people capitalize it all the time, regardless of how it's written ingame. In fantasy worlds that offer a variety of sentient races to play as (elves, humans, trolls, whatever), they typically seem to be genetically distinct species, as opposed to races as we use the term outside of that context. And we don't capitalize the word "human" even though we are "the human race". As far as I can find (here's an example), you do capitalize the proper names for nationalities, races, tribes, etc. So it would make sense to capitalize "Dunesfolk", "Wildwood", because they're tribes/clans... But we don't say "Hispanic Humans", if we followed up with the word "human" at all (and why would we, when we have no nonhuman contemporaries) I could see maybe in a universe where its different races all diverged from a single ancestor race (the elezen and hyur are like this, right?), then it would be similar to the way we use the word "race" in the real world. One example I can think of where it could work that way is the Elder Scrolls universe. Bretons, Nords, Imperials, etc. are all offshoots of "man", Bosmer, Altmer, Dunmer etc. are all related races of "mer"... Other fantasy universes' races are completely unrelated, though. There just doesn't seem to be a real convention to it, except maybe what the devs' or writers' preference seems to be. Personally I tend to fall into the lowercase camp since most fantasy races would more accurately be described as species, especially in cases where members of a single species/race are divided into multiple and distinct cultures and tribes. Does it just depend from universe to universe whether or not it's proper to capitalize it? So what's everyone's thoughts on it? Your preference and why? I feel like there's already some literary resources on this that I just didn't manage to find the google terms for or something or there's a really simple answer. Also I tried to make it not so much a rambling wall of text but I failed sorry
  9. I got my Chocobo yesterday! So I had to frame a nice shot of him. I did tool around with it in Photoshop a little... That's normal, right?
  10. This one is probably my favorite so far that I've taken since I started playing.
  11. Ah, yes, I've gathered something controversial's happened. I don't know the specifics (like how much gil is a lot of gil?) but it does seem unfortunate. Sitting at less than 40k gil, though, it doesn't really concern me that much. I'm not even in an FC yet, so... /shrug Thanks for the welcomes, everyone! I'm happy to be here!
  12. Hullo! My name is... well, my character's name is Shoshopu so that's the name I went with here. And I like to RP! My first MMO was FFXI (Alraunne, Fairy server circa 2010), and while I didn't RP in MMOs back then, that laid the foundation for my interest in FFXIV. I actually preordered the collector's edition of FFXIV, but with nobody to play with, I only stuck around for a few weeks. Fortunately my character was on Balmung, which went on to become an RP server, so that was pretty nice when I started playing it again. A few years after I quit FFXI I started playing GW2, where I got into MMO RPing. It was pretty fun, for a while... but eventually I just kind of got burnt out on GW2's gameplay and lately I've had a hard time compelling myself to log in. A couple weeks ago I decided to give A Realm Reborn a try. So far I'm having an absolute blast! And since I had so much fun (well, for a while) RPing in GW2, why not try it here? So this seems like a good place to start. Hello!
